Ughh so disappointed. Found this place off of Yelp and walked in to pick up a birthday cake. Went with the raspberry vanilla. It looks great and was excited to try buttermilk from all the great reviews, but was so disappointed when we tasted the cake. Icing was hard and extremely sweet, even the kiddos said it was too sweet. The inside cake was dense. I'm thinking the cake was old and was sitting in the fridge for a while. But for $47.50 I am disappointed.
Got a lemon lavender cake from here because Google reviewers kept raving about this flavor. The lemon flavor was more obvious than the lavender, but I enjoyed the flavor nevertheless. However, it became overwhelmingly saccharine the more bites I took. I left half of my slice of cake untouched because of that. Also note that the consistency of the cake is extremely moist, so much so that the texture of the cake wasn't soft and fluffy but dense and hefty. Though I do prefer soft and fluffy cakes, the moistness of the cake wasn't really an issue for me. It was interesting. The frosting/icing was pretty solid, so I skipped it. My friends said we're supposed to let the cake come to room temperature for the frosting to soften. This wasn't relayed to me by the staff so I don't know! The worker who I picked the cake up from was pretty friendly. The shop had some premade cakes of different sizes in their display. Their cookies looked very tempting. I was also impressed by the handwriting of the cake and appreciated the cute little flowers drawn on as decoration.
Decent cookies. I got the caramel cookie and the double chocolate and a brownie. My favorite would be the brownie. Nothing too special but nothing wrong with it
My husband and I have been getting birthday cakes from Buttermilk Bakeshop every year for nearly a decade and every year they get better and better. We work with Katy who is always creative, personable, easy to work with, promptly responsive and thoughtful. This year, I asked for a cake that tastes like an almond joy candy bar, and I couldn't believe how well she delivered! She added chocolate chips to their moist, already immaculate coconut cake, and incorporated a layer of coconut cream and a layer of chocolate ganache with toasted crushed almonds. It was insanelyyyyy good and 100% spot on to the flavor profile we were going for. They enrobed the cake in the most beautiful, ornate icing designs and matched our color inspo perfectly. If you are someone who cares about aesthetics AND flavor, you must get your cake from Buttermilk Bakeshop. Her cakes are always delicious, and with very little direction she will easily exceed your expectations. Any time we stray and order a cake elsewhere, we wish we stuck with our tried and true. Also worth mentioning is that whether you choose to pick-up or have your cake delivered, you can rest easy knowing you're going to receive your order at the expected time, no nonsense. Also, if you are gluten free, their GF cake is so good no one will believe it's GF (we have ordered several GF cakes over the years, the cake described here was not GF). Thank you Buttermilk for being an important part of our celebrations. Highly recommend!!!
This is the only home made bakery cookie that tastes like a chip's ahoy cookie. You know that weird packaged taste some bake goods have when they're mass produced. Somehow this cookie had that taste even though it came straight from a bakery and chocolate chip cookies are probably my favorite cookie and it didn't taste as good as it looked. :(
My daughter recently had her 9th birthday party at Buttermilk Bakeshop! Let me tell you, my daughter said it was the "best birthday ever". The baking class party was a really great fit and choice for her cohort of friends due to the age (from 7 to 11 y/o) level, attention span and skill set. Katy worked with me seamlessly from the start with answering all my emails in a timely fashion! I wanted to bring my own decor to match my daughter's requested theme as well as bring a playlist. The baking class will already come with a happy birthday sign but we just had to have a backdrop! We chose the "mini cakes" baking class as well as the apron decorating add-on which all her guests kept as souvenirs. The kids started out by washing their hands then working on the apron design. They all took a cute picture with their aprons on. Then they got to prepare and cut their mini cakes to frost and decorate! (The funnest part!) Katy also gave the kids mini lessons on what happens in the bakery from making buttermilk, cake cutting, coloring frosting etc!! The kids were all so in tune and paying attention! A bonus - my daughter got to choose her actual birthday cake which was included in the package. She chose the Cookies and Milk cake. The cake was devoured within 10 minutes! I would recommend getting extra! That's how delicious it was. While eating pizza, the kids were all dancing and running round (a bit too much, yikes) and having a good time. The kids as well as the parents who stayed were all complimenting on how what a wonderful party my daughter had! 10/10. And she wants to do it again!
Stumbled upon this small bakeshop while waiting for a reservation in the neighborhood. I've heard good things about this bakeshop, and have always wanted to try it. They have a variety of baked goods, from cookies, cupcakes, cakes, and mini cakes, all of which were beautifully decorated. My girlfriends and I were having a galentine's night, so we were drawn to this really cute simple white cake with a floral heart on top. The cake was so delicious. We loved it so much. It was a 6 inch vanilla cake. The cake was moist, it just melts in your mouth. The filling was vanilla with a hint of strawberry. It was a perfect amount sweet and not too sweet. I wanted to eat the whole thing haha. Can't wait to go back and try their other goodies!
My fiancé, my brother, and his girlfriend surprised me on my birthday with a gorgeous cake from Buttermilk Bakeshop! The cake was chocolate with raspberry buttercream and it was so decadent and delicious! I was told the service was friendly and welcoming, and the ambiance was wholesome when picking up the cake! They brought the cake as a surprise at my birthday brunch and it was stunning!
This is the third time I ordered from them. They have many things to be praised for: 1. Great and prompt communication via email. 2. They are open to ideas and they offer suggestions. 3. Prices are reasonable. 4. The cakes turn out beautiful and sooooo yummy!!!!!. 5. The delivery has never been an issue. We celebrated our third pandemic birthday today for my dtr Melanie. We ordered a rainbow explosion cake and we exchanged ideas and it turned out so special. Thank you! Please don't change!!!! H
I popped in here as I was in the area, and was intrigued by the pastries and baked goods. It's a rather large space, with a few benches in the front to sit at. They have cakes, cupcakes and other baked goods to choose from. I got a vanilla cupcake with vanilla frosting and I'm not sure if it was because it was the end of the day, but the cupcake was pretty dried out and the frosting was way too sweet for my liking. The service was good though, and perhaps I'll come back.
This is regarding their 3rd Ave & 13th St location. I understand Too Good To Go is an app that is supposed to minimize waste, but I dropped $15 (for a $45 value) for a "mini cake" that was made from scraps. This was an attempt to profit off of leftover ingredients & lazy creativity. I wouldn't pay $15 regular price for this. I'm sorely disappointed in this business. I wish I opened this box before I left the area, because I easily would have paid the same amount for an actually presentable mini cake from Ladybird Bakery, just a 20min walk nearby. And the embarrassment of wanting to bring this as a supplement for a bridesmaids morning on a wedding day! You can say that's why I'm extra upset about this. Small businesses work hard, but this scam was sleazy. I'm sorry, but give your hard-earned money to an honest business. P.S. You know what makes this worse? The cake isn't frosted. So it'll dry out faster, if it isn't already. Jfc.
After trying their pumpkin spice cake a few years ago, I had to bookmark this wonderful bakery to make custom cupcakes for my sister's bridal shower! We decided to go with a cactus and succulent theme to match the floral decor at my sister's event. The staff did an amazing job creating the most delicious vanilla cupcakes we ever tasted! They are willing to work with us to make them so beautiful. They were packaged nicely and ready to surprise my sister! Thank you Buttermilk Bakeshop for making these cupcakes a success at my sister's bridal shower! We would definitely come back for more sweets and treats!

Gotta love a neighborhood bake shop where the staff is cool, the desserts solidly satisfy that craving for something sweet, but not too sweet, cakey, but not, and the interior is clean, cozy and chill. In my case, something sweet, but not cakey was the Nutella pecan pie and a lemon bar. The pie was gooey, nutty, sweet, but not cloyingly so, and buttery. The lemon bar was actually sweeter while being plenty lemony. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. read more
Let me tell you, Buttermilk Bakeshop has been in my rotation for years, and it's only gotten better. From the old tiny window setup to the new roomier location you can actually step into, it finally matches the charm of what they bake. Cases full of sweets, that warm bakery smell, and creations that feel like someone bottled joy and added sugar. note: I am not a pumpkin spice person. That cookie turned me into a believer for at least five minutes, then it vanished because we inhaled it. Staff is consistently sweet and on it. Past wins include cupcakes, tiramisu in a cup, and a parade of cookies that make decision-making a sport. Great for birthdays, thank-yous, or those just-because moments that make a week better. 5/5. Seen a review on tiktok and drove down to purchase this beauty, service was good cake was so soft the perfect size and i got it soon as i walked it price was reasonable i wish they wrote on the cake but for the price I'm okay with what i got. Definitely get the Ultimate Birthday Cake, it isn't as sweet as their butter cream frosted cakes because of the meringue buttercream! The team is lovely and will work with you if you have food allergies. They can't guarantee but they do try to limit cross contamination and if you put in a custom order, they will absolutely keep the allergy causing items away from the workspace and equipment. My whole family inhaled the cake and there wasn't anything leftover. The chocolate mouse was the perfect texture for the cake. The funfetti cake was festive! The meringue buttercream was divine! I can't say enough good things about our experience with Buttermilk Bakeshop. From the beginning of the planning process to the results, they were so helpful, responsive, kind and in the end of course, super talented! We needed a cake for 50 people for our daughter's Bat Mitzvah and she had VERY specific ideas about what it should look like. They were so helpful and patient and spent so much time getting all the details exactly the way we wanted. The process was easy and we always felt we were in great hands. Also we realized very late that we needed a dozen specially designed cookies prepared and individually wrapped - and it was only a WEEK before our party -- and they said SURE! And they could have charged us extra for the last minute addition but they didn't. And then both the cookies and the cake for our daughter's Bat Mitzvah were gorgeous and SO absolutely delicious!! Better than we could have even expected!! We were so pleased and just can't sing their praises enough!!! Highly recommend!!! read more

These folks made my vision for a surprise custom cake for my partner come true! I sent them pictures of what I had in mind, and their team nailed it! They were able to. create an edible photograph sheet on top of a chocolate ganache, along with my desired birthday message. I was skeptical of it matching my vision, but I was wrong for that! It was perfect! Great communication with the team, too! I had a bunch of questions and instructions about delivery, and they answered everything and maintained contact until everything was complete! Holy cow, their Choco Tacos are incredible! I stopped by with my fiancé to grab one to go, and we spent the next 7 blocks passing it back and forth talking about how amazing it was. Topics of discussion included: - The chocolate crumble topping. No clue what's in it, but it was the star of the show. - How oddly fun it was to eat. (Imagine an ice cream cone that doesn't drip or fall apart.) - How it's the world's best dessert to share: a satisfying crunch with plenty for two. Thank you Buttermilk, we'll be back! read more
Last time I came to this bakery was pre-pandemic and I remember being about to walk inside. Now it's a walk up. It's a small bakery but it offers delicious choices. My husband and I like the cupcakes, brownies, and cookies here, we've never had the cakes. I almost bought that little, cute cake but $20 was a bit much for something so tiny! The entire experience was laughable. - I ordered my cake two weeks in advance ($42 for white birthday cake with $15 delivery), paid upfront - On day of delivery, cake never arrived, with no contact from shop regarding the status - I reached out to phone (straight to VM) then by email to ask where my cake was - I started to walk to the shop as they are.closing in 30 mins, and finally got an email response they had 'driver issues' - The delivery arrived over 1 later...and the cake was a Halloween/fall/candy corn theme - Cake seemed dry (can't tell if this was it being an older cake or just the way the cakes are) and way too sweet I contacted the shop with my displeasure and a request for at least a refund of my delivery charge. While they apologized and agreed to 'email' a check (it actually meant in the mail), of course - I never received anything. I'm not going to chase them around for $15, I'll just avoid the shop in the future and suggest you do the same. read more

It's not easy to make the perfect pie. Sometimes it's too dry and sometimes it's the opposite. I ordered the salted pecan Nutella pie and yummy yummy in my tummy, boy was it good! Loved the addition of the saltiness to the otherwise sweet pie. The slice paired with a cup of good coffee is all you need for an afternoon treat! Highly recommend you give this place a try! read more

I've ordered from Buttermilk for a couple of my daughter's birthday parties. Every time the cake was delicious, very well made and the decorations blew everyone away. I've sent pictures as inspiration and they've nailed the design, leaving both mom and daughter and guests happy. They have a quick turnaround and are very responsive. read more

The red velvet is bomb! But also keep your eye out for seasonal flavors- we had some of them and they were equally delicious!!
