Have to agree with all the reviews regarding poor customer service. Staff seem like they couldn't have cared less about customer satisfaction. The manner and approach leave much more to be desired. Customer requests are sourly accommodated. There is no care with handling merchandise. It's just dessert, but when you're paying market price for anything, you expect some level of service. The overall experience is off putting. What a shame, considering how the desserts are worth returning for. The baked goodies are delicious--chocolate eclairs, pies, cakes, pastries--everything is high quality and reliably tasty. Not too sweet either, which is important. The cakes and pies are on a sweeter side, but pastries are more decadent and balanced in flavor. Lovely decor in the winter--it's a pleasure to enjoy dinning indoors. read more

I can't believe it's been 11 years since I've been to this bakery again. Time flies. My husband and I stopped by this bakery last night to pick up some desserts. I'm always in the mood for something sweet...24/7. They had display cases with scrumptious cookies, cakes, pie-like desserts, tarts and creme brulee. I bought a blueberry tart for hubby and a key lime mousse pie for me. We both enjoyed our desserts very much. I would definitely buy desserts from this place again next time I'm in the area. Extremely disappointing. We were extremely excited to try this place due to all the great reviews online but I should have just kept driving. We walked in to an almost empty place with one girl at the counter that didn't even acknowledge or make eye contact with us. I had to greet her and ask about the cookies. Now to the cookies- extremely hard! They all tasted like the can Toulouse cookies you can break apart and buy from Walmart. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

I loved how cozy the atmosphere was at Cousin John's! My mom and I came here for Sunday brunch, and we both agreed it reminded us of my college town with the way the restaurant was set up. We sat at a the counter, but there were also a lot of tables. The servers were great and got our food out to us super quick! We both got the eggs florentine- one of their brunch specials on the weekends. It was delicious, and everything I needed in a breakfast. The croissant was fresh and flakey and paired well with the poached eggs, hollaindaise, and sautéed spinach. My mom got the breakfast potatoes and I got the salad. I loved the flavor of the breakfast potatoes. Usually I dip them in ketchups but I didn't feel like they needed it with the flavor from the tomatoes, peppers, and onions they were cooked with. Unfortunately, no matter how great these 3 desserts I bought taste, they will all be tainted because pink haired lady was too rude and selfish to let me actually eat my cheesecake in the store despite there being 10 minutes left to close. If she was polite about it, this would be entirely different. She was unnecessarily condescending and short with me. Fire or re-train her, and I'll come back and buy many more desserts. I had a party for my wife 65th birthday and her retirement on Sunday. On Friday we found out that the people who were supposed to provide the case weren't going to be able to win (that's another review). Call up Cousin Johns on Friday and told them we needed a sheet cake for 100 for Sunday afternoon. The answer? No problem! They made an absolutely gorgeous cake that was also totally delicious. I think it's the best sheet cake I've ever had a party like that. They put two beautiful pictures that we had in fondant on the cake. When I called to pick up, they said, would you like us to write something too and they added at the last minute at the last minute, no problem no extra cost. Been here a few times and the customer service and quality of the food is hit or miss. The ladies taking your name on the weekends are friendly as is most of the staff but what is lacking is front of house staff and their inability to manage a packed restaurant. We had to ask for bread basket and cutlery and then with my food the eggs which were part of a benedict dish were overcooked and not runny at all. I also never got a refill on my coffee. But then they started sitting people who were after us on the wait-list at two sets of two tops right next to each other. They kept telling us fifteen minutes. We waited an hour before we finally left because when we tried to bring it to the staff's attention, they tried to act like they didn't understand what the issue was and were rude and told us to keep waiting. Sunny cafe on the corner of a brownstone block not far from Flatbush Avenue. Order at the counter and tell the staff where you are sitting and they will bring your food and drinks to you. The staff are all very sweet and helpful. There's a large range of pastries and cakes that are home made and a smaller selection of breakfast items and salads and sandwiches. We stopped by for coffee and my husband grabbed a huge slab of crumb cake, coffee was good and so was the cake. We stopped by again for a quick lunch later that day and managed to grab one of their outside tables, which was the perfect spot to people watch on a sunny day. I had a BLT and did a $2.00 upgrade that gave me a portion of skillet style potatoes with onions and peppers. The sandwich was generously filled and came in seeded challah. The toasted challah was a little dry, but I did enjoy the sandwich and the potatoes were very tasty. Portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. Was in the neighborhood and you know I can't refuse trying a fresh filled cannoli when they're available. This one in particular has a really nice looking aesthetic and the cream is soft, meaning that it really is freshly filled which I very much approve of. Inept. I haven't been here for years but stopped in for a coffee to meet someone from work. 1. Their espresso machine is broken so they can't serve any espresso or espresso drinks. The waitress failed to mention this and just brought me an American coffee. 2. They can't heat milk. Don't have a microwave (!!!) and no ability to simply heat up milk in a pan. 3. Utensils in a napkin on the table but no spoon until I asked. It's a coffee shop guys, come on! 4. Rock solid butter pats are impossible to spread. Automatic deduction of a star. 5. Tabasco hot sauce. Would put them to zero stars but yelp only allows one minimum. This place just looks like someone started dialing it in years ago and they're coasting. Won't be back. read more

I came into cousin johns bakery today to pick up a 8 inch glazed strawberry cheesecake for my son's teacher . I called around 7:15 am to make the order, and picked up the cake around 8:15 am . The bakery is small, very calm and clean . There wasn't to many people there as I went when they first opened . I did not wait at all to be serviced .They have a variety of sweet treat options , cakes cupcakes cookies coffee and food I was only supposed to go there to pick up a cake and I gave in and purchased their ham and cheese on a croissant, and their apple crumb slice . I must be very honest and say the apple crumb slice was very good mosit and not to sweet. The ham and cheese croissant was also good just a bit on the salty side for my tasting and that is why I stared at 4. I will definitely be back to this small but very very cozy bakery. read more

Honestly who still sells cake slices under $6 anymore? We snagged a slice of the chocolate ganache cake in 2024 for just $5.75 that was enough for 2 to share since it was so rich. The mini pies were also great (blueberry) and was also less than $6. Consider me a fan! read more

Lovely place for lunch on a weekday. I had the vegetable quiche which was delicious, especially the crust. It comes with a side salad with a dressing that's a bit thick but good. My husband had the feta salad which enjoyed. He also ordered a side of basil bread which he said was tasty. The decaf Americano was delicious and fresh. The waiter was attentive.
