5 Stars because the coffee is bangin', the sandwiches are perfect (get them on a croissant when you can,) location divine, etc. But the service makes me not want to go. I've been a regular here for 5 years and they've never once been friendly to me. My friends from LA comment on it every time they're here, and that's saying something. Also there's a certain barista who when I request milk for my cold brew they hand me the entire gallon jug to pour myself. It's hella weird and I simply stopped ordering milk. I get that this area has a slightly higher population of entitled assholes and you probably get a lot of them being a cute neighborhood coffee shop but I do wish there was more of a cute neighborly vibe actually occurring during interactions with the staff. Would be remiss not to mention the fig jam blondie, she's decadent perfection. The food and coffee are some of the best I've had, and the coffee is easily the best in the Windsor Terrace area. Fairly priced as well. Here's my issue: The baristas are rude as hell and actively ignore you even when you are attempting *politely* to get their attention (e.g. quiet eye contact, not "HEY EXCUSE ME"). Even during off-hours while people aren't lining up out the door, they act as if you are an imposition. Baristas: get a grip. I work a counter service food job (for over five years) where I am cashier, cook and porter making less than minimum wage and I still don't act like y'all. Did I mention I am burnt-out beyond belief? Either I'm a superhero or y'all need an attitude adjustment - I think I know the answer. I tip $2 on a $6 coffee (33%!), be cordial. The five stars are to help negate the reviews the conservative snowflakes are posting about the gender-neutral language sign. I went into this capitalist business trying to grab a bite on a quiet Sunday morning and support a local establishment, and then I noticed the sign that warns me to speak in a way that gave me extreme anxiety, in worrying and fearing how I should speak in a way that I wouldn't untentionally trigger someone. Now I have anxiety and don't feel safe to order here. I just wanted to get something to eat. I don't want to go to a place where I have to worry about being misinterpreted, discriminated against or shamed for my speech. I felt unsafe and feared being served here. I have a disability and an accent and didn't want to risk being misinterpreted or judged, so I left. I never felt so uncomfortable in a place like this before. Great food and espresso, but way too loud to work Daytime looks like the kind of café you'd want to post up at for a few hours, plants in the window, sunlight across the counter, cozy wood interior. The menu's thoughtful, the service is quick, and the espresso is genuinely excellent. I had the egg sandwich with beer bacon and loved it. The flavor was there, the portion was right, and everything came out fast. The coffee was also fantastic: smooth, bold, no bitterness. But here's the dealbreaker: the music. It was loud, fast-paced techno, more suited for a nightclub than a morning café. I couldn't focus, couldn't take a call, and had to leave to get anything done. If you're looking for a great coffee and a spot to sit for a while without needing to concentrate, this place is a gem. This seems like a pretty popular spot! There was line spilling out of their small cafe at around 12:30-1 on a weekend. I got the prosciutto and fig sandwich with herb-whipped ricotta and preserved lemon, which was really tasty and light, and came with dressed greens and pickles. I also couldn't resist getting something from their bevy of baked goods on display, and the maple banana bread was great, so moist and flavorful. They had a few different latte flavors and I opted for the vanilla maple latte, which was fine but just tasted like a regular latte to me. I didn't see any indoor seating, just a few benches and seats outside, but luckily I was planning to bring my lunch to the park anyway. Easy to miss from the outside and fairly small inside. The day I visited, the line was out the door. It seems there's one cook so there was a bit of a wait. I was in the mood to try something different so I ordered the prosciutto & fig sandwich. It was well prepared and interesting. The toasted brioche bun was really good. I'm a fan of figs and preserved lemon so the pairing with ricotta and prosciutto was... interesting. I ate the entire sandwich before I knew what was happening. The side salad was a nice dash of acid and cappuccino was really good. If I were to order it again, I'd ask for a little less prosciutto. The white bean dip is flavorful and light and the sandwich is loaded with tons of fresh veggies; couple with the brioche bun it was delish. Same with the ham n cheese as well.. very generous with the meat and they use a really good pungent mustard to make the sandwich yummy. Both sandwiches came with dresses greens and gherkins. Also got a croissant on a friends recommendation - it was so buttery and flaky. Do note that they don't have any indoor seating and have a couple of small benches outside on a first come first serve basis. Message to the cooks here at Daydream. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. The least you can do is turn the heat up enough to melt the cheese on your "grilled cheese" sandwich. As I opened m my sandwich & examined the cheese slices I turned to the open kitchen where both cooks were staring at me, as if they were gauging how I would react to this ill prepared sandwich. The Good: Great coffee and food. The Bad: Not enough staff, overworked and rude baristas, a line out the door every single time. You will wait at least 25 minutes for your drip coffee as the barista has to ring up each customer and then make every single espresso drink ahead of you. Why they can't hire a second barista to work behind the counter to speed up this process - I do not understand. What finally prompted this review: A frustrating experience where I tried to return a pie tin from the Thanksgiving pie I had ordered from them, which had a slip in the bottom of the box that said "Save this Tin - please return and receive a complimentary coffee or punch on your punch card". When I brought the pie tin to the barista she looked at me like I had three horns coming out of my head and told me "I know nothing about this" and charged me for my coffee. I pulled out the slip and explained the coffee was supposed to be complimentary. As I tried to explain where it came from to her she walked off mid-sentence without looking at me to take the tin to the kitchen. I felt very embarrassed and like I had done something wrong, despite trying to do something nice by returning the tin. Not my fault that this wasn't communicated to her by management. read more

I found this spot from Yelp. I had to kill time between medical appointments and wanted to get coffee and food. I tried a Mushroom and Gruyere grilled sandwich. The bread was very good very crunchy and tasty. The sandwich was bigger and thicker than i thought it would be. The cheese was perfectly melted, the mushrooms were sautéed with onions and it had greens in it maybe spinach or watercress? I'd it lacked anything it was a sauce. I think a spicy mustard or a mayonnaise (or maybe both) would have made it even better. It costs about $12 and it was worth it, I ate the other half for dinner. I had a special maple decaf latte and it was decent but a little pricey at $5.00. It's probably a typical price but I usually just get a regular decaf. The store is small so there's no indoor seating. They have a few benches outside one has a little table connected to the bench so it's a little awkward to eat or drink anything outside. Compared to the hustle and bustle of Prospect Park West, Daytime is a breath of fresh air. It's the perfect place to soak up some sun (great for all of those plants in front of the windows and for your pale winter survivor's complexion) while enjoying some avocado toast. I've had my fair share of avocado toast as a 20-something Californian, and Daytime's avocado toast is the perfect balance of wallet-friendly and that extra oomph. Pickled shallots?! Arugula?! Like other reviewers, though, I often find the wait time extraordinary since there's generally one staff member working as both barista and cashier. I love Daytime and am so excited that they've been able to persevere through the pandemic. I'm a Barista and one of my favorite things to do when I'm off work, is go to coffee shops (duh). I've been going to Daytime for a year now and am never disappointed in the quality of their coffee drinks. I'm also always hella impressed with the professional and friendly baristas. The baristas are coffee professionals, and I've never had any negative interactions with any of them. I think it's easy to forget that a barista is responsible for waking up incredibly early, to take a subway car or bus (which, I mean, the MTA is no stranger to delays/reroutes) to open up within a timeframe of 30 minutes, to then serve genuine and fresh moment-to-moment interactions while being friendly, looking out for allergy concerns, and at this shop, ensuring that food orders are rung up to the exact note that the kitchen staff need in order to provide successful food service. The shop is also gorgeous, covered in plants and wide windows. The food is spectacular and delicious, it's always a pleasure to come in and smell whatever special is being whipped up. Really cute little cafe. Not a ton of seating but there is a sign that says seating is communal, so there's usually somewhere. They have great teas (best soy chai latte I've had in a while) and I've always been really happy with the high quality, delicious food here. Since it's small, it can get a little busy and crowded, but getting take out is totally worth it, too. I don't usually write yelp reviews, but I'll make an exception for this one. I loved Daytime. I've spent much of my hard earned money here because the food is great and you're able to sit inside. I've even gone back twice in one day. However, they very rudely told me to leave just now to make room for all the non-existent customers in the place. After all the money I've spent here as a full time working student, I'm sick of these places acting this way. Daytime, you won't be me seeing me here anymore! Good riddance. That isn't how you treat PAYING customers. If you want to get work done somewhere count this place out. I popped in here on a whim as I was in the neighborhood and wanted something to eat. It's a small cafe with a few bar stools at the counter, and about 5 or so tables.
