There's a carwash a couple blocks away where I pay some nice guys to clean out the disaster my children create in the back seat, and while that's being done, I like to come to Tin Cup. It's a clean, bright cafe with fast wifi, good music, nice art and murals on the walls, and many nice places to sit (including some tables outside). The people running this place are super nice, quite helpful, and eager to chat about all the great sandwiches they have (I saw a really good-looking bagel with lox walk past me). The lucky dude who ordered it ate it in about five seconds flat, and looked quite pleased. I've yet to get any of them, but the iced green tea is stellar, and it's a perfect cafe to sit and work, or just sit, which is better than working. I'm looking forward to coming back, and next time I'm coming hungry. read more

Got a lavender latte for sunny, but cold day! I visited as my partner and I were getting our windshield fixed in a near by auto shop. Short line to order, but once you order, they make your drink then and there before they service the next guest. There were people sitting inside and outside. Stopped in recently for a lavender oat milk latte before touring Greenwood cemetery and it definitely got the job done. Their espresso is strong and not bitter. The lavender syrup didn't really have a discernible lavender flavor though, and just made the drink taste sweet. Still a tasty drink nonetheless. Inside it's nice but kind of run down, and really really hot and stuffy. This could've been because I came on one of those weird spring days where you can't tell whether it's hot enough for ac or cold enough for heat... but still they should've had fans or the window open or something. I didn't get anything besides the latte, so I can't speak to the quality of the food, but everything coming out looked pretty good. They have the typical trendy brunch and lunch options, like egg based dishes, pancakes, crepes, shakshuka, and more. Overall seemed to be a decent and busy spot geared toward the more gentrified South Slope crowd. read more

I went to the spot a couple days ago for lunch with one other who was just looking for a cup of coffee. Guy in front was fine. The place is nice with a lot of people working on their computer and the temperature inside wasn't exactly cool but fine. I ordered the Salmon Scramble for $13 consisting of scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and spinach served with salad and toast and it took maybe 10 minutes or so. The eggs had a nice fluffy texture though they were a bit watery and there was plenty of salmon and spinach mixed inside. The side salad was arugula based with balsamic dressing (presumably the same homemade stuff in the other salads) along with tomato and there were some seeds in it for crunch ( I think flax and pumpkin/pepitas.) I presume they get their bread from some bakery nearby and it had good texture. Not many complaints and I would go back here if I was in the area and wanted a heavy breakfast/light lunch. read more

I tried 2 different kinds - the French Crepes Ham and Brie and the Banana-strawberry Nutella. Both were excellent and satisfying. The savory crepe (Ham and Brie) they sent was made with standard wheat flour (versus buckwheat flour for savory crepes). If that's important to you, then ask when ordering. I stopped by Tin Cup Cafe for my morning coffee and breakfast and picked up a bowl of oatmeal with bananas, blueberries, and walnuts. Service here was friendly and fast, and the place had plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. On a hot summer day, the back area is definitely the place to hang out, as that's where the AC is blasting. Drip coffee here is pretty solid as well. My wife didn't order any food, but opted instead for a mango smoothie. The smoothie had a bit too much Greek yogurt in it for my liking, but she very much enjoyed it. One of my favorite cafes everrrrr in Brooklyn! I've lived in Brooklyn all my life and it can be pretty hard to find a truly QUIET cafe that you can actually work in and focus. I'm leaving this neighborhood after seven years and Tin Cup Cafe is the place I will miss most. Craig and Henny have been a consistent presence on this stretch of 4th Avenue for longer than I've been here bringing warmth, kindness, and great coffee and food. They grew from less than half the size they currently are and it's wonderful to see this cafe so busy. They also survived during the pandemic keeping a safe and clean speck of normalcy during a time when it was so appreciated. This is the epitome of a Brooklyn neighborhood cafe and you'll see the folks you share the area with daily. You'll also see construction workers, teachers from the nearby schools, students and WFH folks working here throughout the day. The yummy lattes and iced and hot drinks, pastries fresh from the oven, sandwiches, crepes and other breakfast items just make it even better. I'll be wishing these lovely people well from afar and look forward to stopping in when my travels take me back here. And getting a couple of final tuna melts before I peel out. read more

We have been to Tin cup last 4 years. We always satisfy with food and coffee. We understand that they may mistook our orders time to time. Which is ok. We fix it. We understand it. We are all human. But today is different, we came for the same order 2 bacon, eggs and cheese with the croissants and another 3 order total of $45.92 and tips 6.89 we got the order, came back home. We were ready to eat. Found out that we didn't get bacon again in any of sandwiches. I called to them and told them that we didn't get the bacon. And needed to add it. By the time we came back to Tincup food got soggy and cold. I came back to Tincup. And trying to clarify the order problem. The guys apologized that they must mistook the order and will add the bacon for free. And trying to fix the problem. The lady at the store got so defensive about it. Said that we didn't order it. And told me that we order 1 bagel and 1 croissant. I show her the food that it was 2 croissants sandwiches. Since i walked back and wanted to fix it. I said by the time i get back home food will be cold. Would you mind fix it or warm it up. She went back and gave it to me and charged another $8.60 for whole orders. I said why you charge me. She said bc we have to redo the whole order. I paid it and then I said you charge me to fix this problem, she said yes. I said listen it wasn't our fault but you charged me. It's not ok. She said something back (i didn't hear it) and i am over it and walked away. I don't write anyone bad reviews bc i am another small business owner in the service industry. I totally understand how hard it would be to strive the business during hard time. Problem got fixed but this was not the way that she should handle the situation. Instead, clarify, apologized and fix it. She charged me over the problem that not our fault? I think this review wouldn't happened if she handle the situation different way. Is it worth it to lose another loyal customer who always defending the restuarant and gave so many chance after problems in the past? Think about it. I would not write this over bacon problem. But i wrote this review to remind that the restuarant can handle this situation differently. I hope you acknowledged it and improved how you handle the situation. read more

The sandwich had toasted sourdough bread doused with olive oil, pesto, chicken breast, and mozzarella cheese. A gem in this area! Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and coffee. We tried the Brazilian cheese bread, lemon ricotta pancakes, a BLT sandwich with chips, iced latte, and a cortado. The place is very spacious, area for people to work on laptops and a few tables reserved for no laptops. You order at the counter and they give you a number and bring you your food. The sandwich is on rye bread and pressed. Bacon had great flavor and they didn't skimp out. The ricotta pancakes were so fluffy! The lemon flavor was subtle and not overwhelming I didn't try the strawberry butter it comes with because I'm allergic, but the pancakes plain and without syrup was yummy itself. The coffee was great, the latte had a strong espresso flavor and creamy at the same time. The cheese bread was good but would've been better if it was served warmed. read more

And I totally agree the place is nice and coffee is tasty. I ordered an ice latte and ice coffee and asked the barista to watch my order as I needed the restroom. I've been coming here consistently over the last week to get some work and studying done. I am a student, and I really was enjoying coming here because it's never too busy and the music is not distracting. It felt nice to get a change in setting and support a small local business. The place is decorated nicely, and the black coffee (my usual order) is fresh and strong. However, today I had a completely opposite experience. I ordered my coffee and set up my laptop to get some work done, and then the lady decided to mention to me after the fact that apparently there is a 1.5 hour limit on the weekends because they "get extremely busy." (It didn't, by the way). As someone who travels and intends to stay somewhere for more than an hour and a half, this would have been very nice to know PRIOR to sitting down and *over-paying* for something that I could easily make at home. I don't know why I was apparently charged $2.75 one day for an 8 oz coffee, $3.50 another time, and $3.25 another day for the SAME cup. On the menu, this 8 oz cup of black coffee is listed as $1.75. A little sketchy, to say the least. No where is there a sign (not even on their website) that there is a 1.5 hour limit to seating. Moreover, I did not hear them mention this "policy" to any of their other customers. In fact, they were significantly warmer and more welcoming to all of their other customers, greeted them nicely, and even followed up with them to make sure that everything was made to their liking. With me, however, it seemed that they were only able to pass glares and major attitude every time they walked by me (I was sitting in a corner minding my own business). What's crazier is that there were PLENTY of open tables. The majority of my time there, I was the only one in the whole cafe (not including the cashier and baristas). I felt incredibly uncomfortable, and I am so disappointed that I don't think I will ever be coming back here. Some other notes: they do not wipe down the tables after customers sit and eat, which I thought was surprising considering, you know, we are in the middle of a pandemic (and just standard restaurant hygiene, pandemic or not). The outlets do not work. I was the first customer in today and there were bread crumbs all over the chairs, which I just shook off and used to spend my time efficiently. The bathroom is cramped and always filthy. Also, I am a type 1 diabetic with strict dietary restrictions. Felt my blood sugar crashing and quickly took out a snack before I passed out. The same lady, on one of her rounds to check on me, was quick to come call me out on it and mentioned that they have food and drinks there. Absolutely inconsiderate and deplorable. What an awful experience and terrible way to treat a regular customer. Thanks, Tin Cup. It was fun while it lasted. read more
