As an avid visitor to Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Prospect Park, I'm always looking to dine somewhere new and don't mind walking off the beaten path. When I do this; I usually find " buried restaurant treasure". On a recent visit to Prospect Park, I decided to try a different place and got off the B16 at Caton and Coney Island Avenue. The place: Lark Cafe. I was in a mood to cheat and have a toasted wheat bagel with scallion cream cheese and a Chai. I got almost everything, except, wheat was sold out and chose sesame bagel. As I waited, I wanted to check out the adjoining ice cream shop that sells Jane's ice cream, made in the heart of the Hudson Valley. I will return for a future cheat. Jane's is known for popular flavors as Killer Chocolate, Blue Zoo, Unicorn Cake. My order was ready and one bite of the bagel: heaven! The bagel was toasted to perfection and the scallion cc was delicious. And what a generous schmear! The Chai was light and frothy. As I devoured, patrons around me were typing on their computers enjoying Stumptown coffee and iced tea. LC offers a variety of tasty options: whitefish on a bagel, smoked salmon, cheddar chive biscuits, tea bread, croissants, doughnuts.. The ambience is relaxed and there is a book nook if you need a good read. Lark also hosts private events and for families there are sing along and story times. The service is kind and my bagel was absolutely made with TLC. I left Lark happy and walked straight to Prospect Park. Off the beaten path is always full of nice surprises! I didn't go to Lark Cafe physically but instead ordered from UberEats & was not disappointed. I ordered the lox bagel & it was great- enough lox at a solid price as well. I also got the kale salad & was pleasantly surprised with it- it is hard to make kale taste good but this place successfully managed to do so. The roasted chickpeas & feta was a nice touch. On top of that, the tahini dressing complemented it well. I'd definitely go to this place again. read more

Whoa! Lark Cafe only has a 3.8 stars on Yelp?! I'm so surprised, considering it's such a beloved neighborhood spot where I always see people! Every time I've been here, it's been a real treat. My girlfriend and I always split the salmon bagel and trust me, they do not skimp on the fillings for this thing. I've had some of their other pastries too and they were decent! I come here most weekends with my girlfriend for breakfast, and we typically order the smoked salmon bagel, chicken salad bagel, and strawberry banana smoothies. The food is decent, and the service is quick, but they frequently get something wrong in the order, especially if it's a minor change. My girlfriend is allergic to avocado, and the past several times she's ordered her bagel without avocado, it's still included. This seems like a pretty negligent oversight. Also, today we sat next to a woman who was lactose intolerant, who was given a latte with whole milk, despite her instructions to the contrary. read more

While I enjoyed the coffee, I didn't enjoy that there is an additional $2 charge if you want less/no ice with your coffee. So I walked out. This is such a surprise to be in a neighborhood still gentrifying and having this charge. (How would most of the ppl in this neighborhood pay this? Gave my honest review and the owner of the business responded shortly. Rather than addressing my issues kindly, he told me I was wrong and "clarified" what he believes to be the facts. Stay away from this shop whose owner chooses to correct critics rather than talk to them kindly about their experience. No "sorry" from the owner. Just a rude "correction". And no invite back to try to correct the issues. I won't be back. Upon walking into the cafe the barista doesn't speak. He waits for me to engage. When he responds to me stating my order his words are clipped and clearly he's annoyed. Ordering a hot pumpkin spice latte should result in a hot drink not a barely lukewarm latte that has no pumpkin spice flavor. When the bagel was being prepared and one glove was used. Mailman comes in drops mail on the counter where I presume food items go at some point in time. Same guy preparing the bagel used his GLOVED hand to pick up the mail. Why bother with the glove at this point??? I lived around the corner for 6 years. Never went inside because my partner would make the coffee runs. I can't speak to what the service used to be but this wasn't worth the money or time I spent in there. Dunkin might have served up a better cup and I don't like the closest one at the gas station so that's saying a lot. The rude staff, lukewarm coffee and lack of sanitary measures being practiced here have solidified for me that I won't be returning. Skip the gloves and wash your dirty hands sir. read more

You can move the tables and chairs around to suit your comfortable level of social distancing. We recommend the espresso drinks and matcha latte (soy, oat and almond milk alternatives for an extra 85c!). They have great bagels, sometimes even including pumpernickel, and snacks including cheddar chive scones, peanut sea salt cookies, vegan gluten free muffins, cookies, croissants... and there's an accessible restroom for customers. This is the only place in New York that you can order a bagel and they just give you an uncut cold bagel in a brown paper bag. I could've went to Dwayne reade and got 5 uncut bagels if I wanted to cut, toast and butter it myself. New York is known internationally for bagels with a vast history in the world's best bagels so if you can't do it properly just stick to crepes and danishes. I was told by the cashier that it's normal and "most people eat uncut bagels by just biting into it" I've lived in New York my whole life and never have eaten a bagel like that or haven't heard or seen anyone else eating or serving bagels like that either. read more

Ended up going to Lark three times in the past week when I had to go into Brooklyn for work. Thoroughly enjoyed it each time. The flat white was good, but their cold brew really shined for me. In addition, I got a rhubarb scone one day (not bad), and a piece of pistachio/cardamom bread another (AMAZING). I don't think the baked goods are made in house, but I'm not complaining, they were fresh and delicious. Service was quick as well. I ordered the 16 oz cold brew. Very refreshing and very chill vibes. There is art that is hanging on the side that one can buy. The only thing I would say is that there are outlets and wifi. However, beware for the wifi. It is slow. By slow, I mean where you can only have one window open otherwise your browser page will not load for a few minutes. I would keep the setup as simple as possible. The wifi speed does fit the cafe vibes: slow and a place to relax. I would come back again. read more

I've been here a handful of times and their lattes are subpar in taste and quality. The hot drinks are also never really hot, which is quite annoying. The barista with the nail polish is very moody. I came across this cafe today while looking for a place to have an iced coffee and sit and write some notes for work. Upon entering I realized that I have been here once before and already had their rewards card in my wallet (buy 10 coffees, get 1 free). This cafe has coffees and teas, sweets/pastries, and a small lunch menu with sandwiches as well. There is plenty of seating available. My favorite coffeeshop in Ditmas Park. Yes, it's not as close to the Q/B train, but it's nice if you're in the area, taking a stroll in the neighborhood. I love that it's cozy inside with lots of mini circular tables and benches to sit and work on. It can get a bit loud here at certain times with groups of people, but that's why you bring headphones to drown out the crying babies and music in the playroom. If you've got kids, this definitely is the sot to bring them in the playroom next door. Food wise, it is either made in house or locally from Brooklyn bakers like Dough. The tarts they sell are delicious treats if you want something sweet and quick. Lots of espresso options as well. Service is always on point and friendly. The space is always clean unless someone previously sitting down didn't clean up after themselves... Bathroom is available too. This place is cute, airy, and bright. The perfect spot to stop by before work for a little sweet pick me up, before being stuck in fluorescent lighting. My go to is an iced mocha, which is always excellent. The staff always makes sure to thoroughly stir in the chocolate so that it has a smooth consistency. What's nice about this spot is that they bring in pastries from other nearby bakeries, which means you can get a dough doughnut and you can often find them in the day old pastries basket at a discounted price. I think you can pass on the donuts whether they are "fresh" or stale, because they always taste fairly stale anyway. However, they bring in these almond chocolate croissants that are just so heavenly. I didn't realize they were also chocolate from the outside, but what a treat when I found out! They also bring in homemade poptarts, which are fun and tasty. Plus they do bagels and other sandwiches. Their chive cream cheese is great. You were the first modern coffee shop in my area, at first, you were so good to me--your baristas were trained, your sandwiches were decent, and your vibe was good, but there wasn't much competition, over time you have slowly slipped into complacency. Your sandwiches are tasty but small and no longer include a side salad. At $8.50 and up they feel a bit stiff for something that is just headed up by the barista. The cappuccino today was ok but not quite good and for the prices should be of a higher grade. You have the beans and the machine, but there is little passion. Maybe part of it is you're understaffed. I came in recently, and the cafe staff was missing. After a few minutes of waiting a woman emerged from the bathroom. By now four customers were waiting to put in orders, and one maybe gave up. Because there is only one employee they are forced to do the register, be the barista and handle the food. The young woman handled herself fine, but you could tell she was a bIt frazzled. The frazzling carried over to my order as she forgot to head my sandwich and 25 minutes later I had to go up and remind her. Lark, I am tempted to give a two-star review here, but I will hold off. I rented the side room for a bridal shower and the experience was fabulous! The space was perfect for the amount of guests we had and the natural lighting that poured through the store front window was gorgeous. Sarah and Margerie (the owners) were really easy to work with and did everything in their power to help us set up and feel comfortable. I love this place! Girls behind the counter are always nice, place looks really cute and coffee and bagels are decent. I moved 2 block away from Lark 8 months ago and this place became my favorite place to work from as I am a freelancer. But today .... 1pm on a Thursday. There were only 2 people except me in the cafe and both were loudly speaking on the phone using their speaker. I found it inappropriate, rude and inconsiderate for other visitors who not only grab 2,5$ coffee but pay around 15-17$ for their breakfast, tip and try to work there. Guys, you should really have some kind of policy where to don't allow people to disturb YOUR customers. Unfortunately, I won't go back until there such a rule. read more

There is a wooden bench outside, a hightop bar with three stools and some standing space, eleven two top tables and an entire separate playroom with more seating. There is cool art and hanging overhead lighting with yellow thatching. The rest of the space is white with light and medium shaded wooden fixtures. They have some outlets running along the banquette. They also have wifi but I wasn't able to find it. The password is "ilovelark." They serve Stumptown Coffee, Dough Doughnuts, fancy pop tarts, and a variety of hot breakfast items. I just had a large iced coffee ($4.75). It came in a 24 oz clear plastic cup filled with about 20 ounces of medium brown color liquid. The ice was gourmet.
