the food is always so delicious & tastes fresh no matter how long it's out in the display, definitely made with quality ingredients & with love :) love the workers and they're so kind with great service. the spot is a cute little space enough for a line to form & maybe do computer work. definitely recommend going on tuesdays and thursday's to get their cheddar scallion scone it's so yum & their bubble tea is so fresh & yum the taro is like no other
A small cafe providing coffee and boba to the surrounding neighborhood. Ample space to sit inside if you choose to. Ordered a jasmine milk tea with boba. Jasmine was a bit more subtle than I would've liked, but the small bit of fragrance to it was nice. The boba was chewy and sweetened so having the drink less sweet was perfect. A friendly neighborhood spot on par with chain milk tea places.
Was in the area this weekend when my bf was looking for some coffee. We stumbled upon this spot, where he got an iced americano w/ oat milk and I got an iced turmeric latte w/ almond milk. I really wanted to love this spot (since I believe it's Asian owned) and my drink, but I have to say my iced turmeric just tasted like ...milk. I know turmeric is usually pretty subtle, but the drink was super bland. Wouldn't recommend, especially for $7. Perhaps it's better as a hot drink? Bf's americano was good, standard coffee. Also interesting that the oat milk cost 40 cents while the almond was $1. We did notice the Asian buns as other reviewers had mentioned and they looked really good - didn't get to try them this time around. The cafe was pretty quiet, as we sat for a little to drink. Turmeric drink aside, would love a bakery like this closer to our neighborhood.
They make the best chocolate chip cookie I've ever had. It has an incredible balance of everything that makes a great cookie. The edges are crispy. The perfect amount of chocolate that's gooey. It's hearty. Not overly sweet.
This place might just have the best Thai milk tea boba I've ever had!! I only wish they were open on the weekends--I live right around the corner and would come all the time.
Ok, correction, 5 stars. I love this place. 2 important pieces for me: great americano using quality beans, and well-balanced, aromatic, chai latte. New exciting drinks. & Also, a talented barista! She has technique down, and has a signature latte art heart that matches the cute teaspoon with a heart on it. La Colombe coffee. The barista was legit. Had a nice americano and then tried a non caffeinated pea latte. It was blue, creamy, and earthy tasting. Would like to try the turmeric latte (also non caffeinated) and possibly a bun or hot dog filled bun if I were in the mood. Cute dainty spoons, with hearts on them.
Is it pricey? Heck yea. Is it worth it? Every penny. I have tried almost every coffee place in close proximity to Bread and Joe, and nothing beats them. There mocha iced coffee is ahhhmazing! The staff is always so friendly and kind. They serve the most outstadning baked items that it just blows my mind how fresh there selection is. They bake 99% of the stuff showcased. You must try anything with the bread they bake in house, and the chocolate chip cookies are just out of this world. The coffee is strong and the food is tasty. They have a card that after a certain amount of visits you get a free coffee. I did not like the matcha donuts but mostly becuase they were a bit too bitter for me. If you love matcha that is your donut. TIP: They sell out quick of the ham and egg in the morning. Cons: They charge an extra 75 cents for soy or almond milk instead of regualr milk, so a iced mocha will be almost 6 dollars with almond milk.
Cute hole in the wall with about 3 tables and seating along the window. I got an iced dirty chai which was pretty good, but I couldn't really taste the espresso. I also got nice, light and flaky chocolate croissant. I really wanted to try their matcha donuts but they were out. Next time! Four stars bc I called yesterday to see if they were open since the 3 times I've tried to visit this place they've always closed 10-15 minutes before their closing hours (M-F 6:30-5pm, Sat 8-4pm, and Sun closed). Worth a stop if you're in the area!
Cute little bakery steps away from the R train. Suitable for small groups as they have tables seating parties of two. I'd say maximum occupancy is about 8. They have a couple of baked goods..some Chinese breads (ham & egg, ham, egg, & cheese, hot dog buns. There's also a nice selection of muffins and drinks. We ordered a matcha latte, draft latte, and regular ice coffee in addition to ham egg buns. You can't go wrong with a La Colombe draft :). It was good. The matcha was pretty straight forward but if you don't like a heavy bitter matcha taste consider adding sugar to it. Its not sweet without it. The ham and egg bun was average. I'm used to the bread part having a more sweet taste to it but it was still a good snack. Prices are pretty high but it doesn't look like they have much competition in the area. I didn't notice any other Asian bakeries in the area. We paid $21 total. Would come here every now and then but it probably won't be my go to spot!
Good cold brew and nice and quiet vibes. Seems like a grab and go type of cafe but there are tables where you can read or bring a friend. No wifi sadly but otherwise, a nice rest spot on an otherwise empty avenue. Baristas at the counter were pretty nice too.
Very good matcha green tea-glazed donut with a cake consistency. It's not too sweet, and the cake texture is reasonably light. On the small size compared to what other places sell, but perfect for the richness. While the prices aren't expensive, they're of course more expensive and smaller than what you'd find in Chinatown or Sunset Park. However, I'm willing to bet the quality of ingredients is higher and the service much friendlier.
If you're tired of coffee chains like Starbucks, this is the place to check out. Bread & Joe offers you traditional beverages and more. If you want to try something new and untraditional, try the Hong Kong style milk tea and the Thai iced tea. You will not be disappointed. Also, don't forget to try their baked goods. They bake everything in-house unlike Starbucks! The matcha donut seems to be the next big thing so give it a try. Unlike the traditional donut, it's baked, not fried! Prices are very comparable to other chains so your wallet won't be hurting. Location is close to the R line so don't forget to get your Bread & Joe before you hop on the subway!
I was in the neighborhood and decided after so much snow, ice and just ugh..I need a bubble tea. I remembered Bread and Joe. I stopped in and got an iced Lychee green tea with boba. One sip.. and that was it! Instant delicious! Stepped out and I could now face the melting ice and snow. Take R train to Prospect Avenue exit at 17th Street, 2 minute walk read more
I stopped by this morning for boba and it was amazing! Service was excellent and friendly - the staff were helpful and knowledgeable. I did see someone working remotely there so there is WiFi. There are a few small tables to sit at but it is a cozy atmosphere. Very brooklynite decor! read more

Came here to try the Egg tarts or green tea donuts on a Saturday afternoon and they didn't have any! Bummer....wth... Was a hot day so I ordered the draft black and tan coffee ($4.25). It was smooth and mellow, no sugar or syrup needed. Place was empty on a Saturday, but the ac was blasting. Plenty of seats if I wanted to hang out. Prices are okay for the area that's void of anything else other than junk yards and garage shops. Dude in the front asked if I wanted a loyalty card, I agreed and got my first stamp. Not sure if I'll return unless they have the egg tarts or green tea donuts in stock.. read more

I usually get coffees here but I loved matcha lattes too. They put the right amount and it's not milky like other places from lack of matcha read more

HOLY CRAP IT HAPPENED. IT OPENED! . . . Okay ... I should elaborate. I've been literally stalking this cafe for MONTHS waiting for it to open. Every now and then I would spot the gate halfway open and see a few dudes floating around inside, but juuuuust when it looked like things were ready to go, all signs of life would disappear for another 3 weeks straight. THEN... It happened. Yesterday THE GATE WAS COMPLETELY UP! I felt my heart skip a beat as hustled across the street to check things out, probably with an over eager expression of hope and hunger on my face. Two nice dudes were already busy making a drink for a girl in front of me, as I quickly began taking photos like a creeper and gawking at the pastries. The dudes were very patient and sweet with me as I professed my excitement at their opening and began asking about their beans (la colombe) and food (all baked on the premises in house). The espresso is well done and I picked up the cutest little matcha doughnut to go, which was flavourful and well priced for the size. I must admit I'm excited to see a few hybrid Asian pastries (egg tarts and red bean pineapple buns?!) in the case and anticipate some subtle weight gain due to these guys. Welcome to the hood dudes! Definitely a great start so far. read more
Pork buns and La Colombe coffee?! Why didn't this exist sooner? Bread & Joe is a wonderful addition to this Brooklyn neighborhood. I never thought I would find a high-quality pork bun outside of Chinatown. This place proved me wrong on that. If you only get one thing, get the pork bun. If you can get two things, get the pork bun AND a coffee. Perfection. read more
Hidden gem! Well, hidden in that its kind of in the middle of nowhere. Whats this neighborhood, South South Slope? lol Love it! Would love to come back and try some of the cold brew they have on tap. Heard about the matcha green tea donuts, and they were even better than I thought they'd be! Must do! Must eat! Great price at $1.75, but they are a bit small. Well, I solved that by taking 2, just for me. :-) Love it, next time I go back I'm buying a dozen to share with others. If I can resist, otherwise I might just eat them all myself! Too bad I had to bike home and I didn't have any kind of bag otherwise I wouldn't take a bunch home. Staff are nice, space is chill. Love the wall decor! Plus they have several other asian/chinese pastries (red bean, etc.). But for me, nothing beats the matcha donut! read more
Came to this coffee shop after reading some raves reviews. Maybe I had high expectation with how great the pastries this shop has to offer, but I was a bit let down. They had the same display window as HoneyBee pastry, but they are selling Asian bakery buns and cakes with a gourmet price tag. Tried their popular Green Tea donut; tasted more like a small soggy cake. The guys behind the counter are nice and friendly, even made my Matcha Latte for me at a smaller size as I requested. read more

This review is for vegans and vegetarians. Bread and Joe is different from most coffee shops because they have bubble tea, Asian breads/pastries, as well as traditional coffee/snack options. I also loved that it was not too crowded and I got a chance to catch up on work in a quiet/comfortable space with wifi. In terms of vegetarian and vegan options they do have vegan matcha cake, and was unsure if any of the other options were vegan friendly. Would have been nice if more of the savory bread treat options were vegetarian or vegan friendly! read more
Yes! Finally got time to come visit Bread & Joe. They did not only serve coffee but also different kinds of teas, lattes and pastries/bread. I ordered the Thai iced tea, chai latte, cold brew and matcha latte. The cold brew and chai latte was so good, way better than overrated Starbucks. The cold brew wasn't watered down. It was strong but smooth. The chai latte had the perfect amount of sweetness and spices. The Thai iced teas were creamy and sweet. The matcha latte didn't have any sugar in it, but there's a condiment bar near the door. I didn't try the pastries but they had egg tarts!! It's not too noisy in here either so you can probably do your work. I would come back for the cold brew any day. read more

Great place to get work done! I came in on a Friday afternoon and worked until almost closing time (6:20pm). Free wifi. Outlets. No distractions or loud music. There was pleasant background music which wasn't overbearing. Enough seats for the customers who stayed a while. I ordered the milk tea and a matcha doughnut. Both were decent and I would order again. The owner made a batch of chocolate chip muffins and offered them free of charge to me and some other customers and encouraged feedback. I love OG Asian bakeries like Tai pan and Fay da, and this place has a similar feel with an update to the pastries and treats and a space that's comfortable and enjoyable to stay a while. And it's close to the train station! read more

Are the matcha donuts still being made? Haven't seen them the last couple visits.
