We come to sit, talk, share stories, our personal experiences and of course sip a fabulous beverage. I'm seeing this more and more as I visit fabulous coffee places.. Konditori, Villager, Bakeri, Hidden Grounds, and now Velvette Brew. First, the space: light, airy and I can imagine with their big windows, a sun soaked place on a sunny day. There are plenty of seats: tables and high top tables. Their menu offers a bit of everything from soup, sandwiches, quiche and pastries. There is a nice option of beverages hot/cold. Today, was a bit damp so I ordered a hot chai with bite size checkerboard cookies to dip. The barista was very pleasant and I found a seat while waiting for my chai. I see a lot of patrons working in laptops, some meeting up to talk and sip and even the barista chatted with a local patron. Love it! My chai was piping hot and absolutely delicious. The chai was frothy, rich, the black tea leaves infused with cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, sweetener, and milk. I savored every sip and complimented the barista. It is always great to find a new coffee place. I expect to be a loyal local at Velvette Brew. They also host music events and have a collaboration with Cry Baby Ice Cream. Great little coffee shop. I got the cold brew, it was really smooth and had a chocolatey flavor to it, right up my alley. They have a good amount of tables and chairs in the shop so a good place to grab a seat and chit chat with a friend. They offer a few bites to eat but nothing gluten free for this celiac girlie. But I got a croissant for my nephew. There's also a bathroom here! Huge bonus. Good little shop. read more

Came by to get some work done on a Saturday afternoon. Normally when I pass by, the place is packed, but there were plenty of seats available when I went that day. The iced velvette is their version of a vanilla latte. Mine was watered down. There wasn't a strong coffee taste, and as the ice melted the coffee flavor just got more muted. The prices are decent, less than what I expected it to be. There are plenty of outlets against the wall. The bathroom was clean, and they have wifi. read more

I moved to Park Slope recently and have tried 8 places, on or adjacent to 5th Ave, to try to find "my spot" for my 12oz hot almond milk latte to-go. I narrowed it down to 3 cafes to return to. Velvette rises above the rest because: -They truly make the most delicious drink. They just use Califia almond milk and I never feel the need to add sweetener (at other cafes I've had to add a dash or half packet of sugar). The drink is smooth, consistent throughout the cup, and not bitter. -Hands down they have the kindest staff who seem happy to see their customers, and seem to delight in providing an experience. -I don't typically buy pastries but they seem to always have trays of fresh cookies. (I scarfed down the softest oatmeal cookie today and figured it was time to write a review!) -I don't typically sit in, but I would here: the atmosphere is quiet with classic cafe decor, with plenty of open tables to work or hang. read more

There are also a good variety of pastries and cookies to snack on. Everyone working at the cafe is always so kind and conversational. Velvette is also one of my favorite cafes to work at. Was walking in the hood Parkslope so hubby and I decided to check out this establishment for some coffee. My hubby and I enjoyed our cold brew ice coffee the very in thing. Great atmosphere for working or chilling with a book! It was a nice day when I went so the sun lit up the store well. I sat near the windows and next to an outlet which was very convenient. They have many outlets, great for if you need to charge anything. There is free WiFi offered here as well as two restrooms. I ordered the matcha latte but it lacked taste of... matcha. I'm not sure if this place has been around a while and I somehow missed it but this is the REAL DEAL FOR GOOD COFFEE!! I am a lover of anything caffeine and I am always on the hunt for a good cup of coffee. I got an iced cappuccino with almond milk.. it comes with three shots of espresso and they even managed a foamy milk top. They charge extra for almond milk like almost coffee shops. The coffee is strong and they have a really good quality machine and coffee grinder. My large iced cappuccino with almond milk was $6 (including the extra ~50 cents for almond milk) which is pricey but most coffee shops in NYC don't skew far from that price. Staff is really nice and explained a couple of questions I had. They also sell an assortment of pastry and carb filled items that all looked sooooo good! I saw A LOT OF PEOPLE INSIDE on there laptops and it's not super loud like most coffee spots. Modern, clean interior. The only downside is I wish I lived closer because I would be a regular !! Nice quiet cafe. Plenty of outlets. People are relatively quiet. The pastry I had tasted really fresh. After 4pm, they're sold for $1. Prices aren't horrible. This was quite a find. The latte so was velvetty (hence the name!), pure deliciousness. Best latte I've had in park slope. So so good. Cappuccino was a bit stronger but still good. Stopped into Velvette Brew for coffee and snacks on Saturday morning. A good choice for coffee for both snobs and casual drinkers. Quality: Velvette Brew has one of the larger drink menus of the coffee shops in the area. So those looking for variety as well as quality, this is probably the place for you. I typically stick with my standard the Large Cold Brew, but on occasions I have had both the Cappuccino and the Iced Americano. What I have learned is don't be shy to tell them how you like it, some of the baristas are a little heavy handed on the simple syrup, and I quickly picked up on it. In terms of bites, I have tried a Mushroom Quiche, which was okay, and the Apricot Croissant, which was very good. They have a whole assortment of croissants available, I was shocked at the variety when I asked. My suggestion is to stick with sweet over savory. Quantity: Large iced drinks are served in a 20oz cup. The food items are small, but perfect for a morning snack. Value: $4.75 for a Large Cold Brew. $5.50 for the Mushroom Quiche. $4 for the Apricot Croissant. Ambiance: Velvette Brew has two locations, I visited the one in Park Slope. It is a cute corner coffee shop, which I expect would be quite lively in non-COVID times. They have a few outdoor tables, though they were of little use on the snowy day I visited. Inside, they have two tables in the windows, then additional tables along the left wall. In the middle tables have been stacked on each other to create distance as guests wait on line. The coffee bar and the different machines are found on the right. Nothing stands out too much about the space, I do like the simple brick and molding as classic decor. In the background an Arcade Fire playlist played quietly. Crowd: As soon as indoor dining reopened, you could count on the few tables filled with customers and their laptops. And every morning, a constant supply of patrons can be found grabbing their coffee fix. Service: The staff is very friendly and were super excited to allow a few customers back inside. Expect a good amount of questions and a short conversation as they work to get your drink just as you want it. Parking: Street parking across the neighborhood. read more

This is my go to cafe in Park Slope for studying, reading, and writing. The beverages are great, the music is mellow, noise level is not too loud, wifi is consistent, lighting is perfect, they open early and close late, staff is friendly, and ambiance is on point. I can always get my creative juices flowing here! I've been here more than 30 times, and each time is a treat. If I could change one thing, I wish they had a wider assortment of foods (currently there are standard pastries and some sandwiches), but understandably their focus is the drinks, not the food.
