Okay coffee. Ordered a vanilla cappuccino, too much milk to coffee ratio for a capp - I couldn't rlly taste the espresso much. I'll come back to try their espresso another time, but probably won't be visiting often. read more

Came here with a friend and really enjoyed the Velvette drink. It was smooth and not too sweet. Wasn't the strongest coffee I've ever had but I appreciated the indoor seating and clean environment read more

Man, if you told me 10 years ago that I'd be willingly spending $7 on an oat milk cappuccino, I would've thought you were crazy. And not just because oat milk wasn't a thing back then. But hey, Park Slope's gonna Park Slope, right? The space is beautiful (very laptop warrior-friendly), and their menu is pretty extensive (with teas and pastries as well). Coffee is good, people are friendly. Plus, magazines to peruse! read more

On one rainy day called in for pick up. Boy, shouldn't have done that to myself. Misunderstanding on misunderstanding! It makes more sense to text you a clear order than repeat myself a good amount of times over the call. Doesn't it? Ended up going to Hungry ghost instead. read more

Well, this place is amazing in everything! For the first time since a while my oatmilk flatwhite was just perfect and didn't have any bitter taste. The stuff is super friendly and their playlist is just like mine, so I'm totally in love and will definitely be coming here again&again (I have to try their Shakshuka!) read more

The perfect coffee shop - tucked away on 5th Ave, it's easy to walk by this shop. The food, coffee and ambience is pretty close to perfect. Staff is knowledgeable and attentive. read more

This place is so cute!!! A really nice environment with an outdoor seating area and a very friendly staff. My iced Chai was just okay. I didn't love the concentrate they use. But I'll be back to try something else for sure! I liked that the oatmilk in my drink was frothy. It had a very nice texture. read more

Velvette Brew - Iced chai with Oat Milk - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

let's just say that i've always wanted to open a cafe, and this place is pretty darn close to how i'd do it myself--lots of food/pastry options, great coffee, and the music they play is mostly indie pop i would say. i like the interiors as well, great place to work with many seating options & outlets. my go-to order is the spinach quiche and iced americano with oat milk. above all, the staff is always so so welcoming and sweet. read more

See all

I'm so excited about Velvette opening because there really isn't much in the form of coffee shops that have ample seating in the neighborhood (other than a big chain that I'm not a huge fan of frequenting). I was happy enough that they had coffee and a big open space, but it got better when I heard about the menu from the barista. They had 4 different kinds of quiche: I tried the broccoli, which was great. They also had a bunch of different pierogies and pastries. I went with a simple cold brew as my beverage, but the barista was telling me about the velvette, which is their signature drink. It's kind of like a latte but has a special flair to it; I don't happen to remember what it was, but ask the barista about it! There's plenty of outlets along the wall, the crowd was very neighborhood-y, and it was productive for working. Velvette gets an A+ in my book. read more

What kind of coffee shop closes at 6pm?? We can't "never sleep" if we can't get coffee at night. That said, if you're able to get there during open hours, it's good coffee (haven't tried their pastries, although it's worth noting they're only $1 after I think 4:30pm) The baristas are consistently upbeat. Their signature drink, The Velvette, is delicious, made with 2+ shots of espresso, steamed and frothed milk, brown sugar, and maybe something else too. It's not cheap, at about $6 iced, but it does take a fair amount of work to make. And when I drink it, it feels like it's cooling my brain. There are typically a few people working on laptops (they have WiFi), but there's not that many tables. It's a good neighborhood spot, but the short hours limit its potential. read more

Let me tell you, Velvette Brew was really outstanding. Clean and a great crowd! Every single thing is tasty. The servers are really welcoming and polite. Velvette Brew... The place is really cool. read more

Loveliest people. Cafe has plenty of outlets, tasty snacks and more substantial food. Outstanding playlist (not too loud, not too quiet). I'm glad I visit frequently. read more

Unpretentious coffee shop with smooth brews. New to the area, Velvette looked to be just another cafe at first glance. However, after my second visit, it seems to be one of my favorite coffee shops in the neighborhood. I'm assuming they call it Velvette because of how smooth and light the coffee tastes. This is not far from the truth at all. I don't take my coffee black too often but their brews make it so easy to drink it in this way. If you prefer dark roasts, you might not be a big fan of their brew. I think it's a versatile choice for most people to at least try though because their prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere of the inside makes it perfect to do work in and they always play great music. I will continue to be one of their loyal patrons. Keep up the great work! read more

got an iced oat latte with simple syrup and it was really good! I wouldn't recommend sitting in here tho bc the atmosphere is too dark for my personal preference read more

This has to be one of the worst cups of coffee I've had in my life. It is essentially half chicory and has a horrific taste and mouth feel. Honestly, you'd be better off stopping in a bodega or even Starbucks. Avoid. Really avoid. read more

I go to this place occasionally on my way to the gym. I really cannot comprehend how a cafe makes such a common sense coffee 101 mistake. I order "the velvette" iced latte. They somehow cannot comprehend that you add milk to the espresso and then you add ice at the end so you don't dilute the coffee and hand someone a warm cup of melted ice. They literally pour espresso on ice every single time which is basically an americano. They teach the baristas to do this as it's the same every time no matter who works. They hand you a cup with it HOT at the bottom with ice on top. You shake it and your ice is instantly gone and you have diluted garbage. One time out of like over 10 visits did someone actually make a latte correctly and handed me a cold drink. The foam was nice and the coffee was decent. The space is decent. Great outside seating. I give 2 stars instead of one for the decent space and branding but a hot diluted iced latte is crazy read more

Velvette Brew - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

What I love most: OUTLETS! There are very few coffee shops in the neighborhood that are even remotely as friendly to laptop users as this place. Also: it's spacious, with big windows and nice lighting. The coffee seems uneven - in the first week I was coming here it seemed quite good; more recently, I've been noticing how much worse it is than the delicious Stumptown they brew at Hungry Ghost. On the negative side: I am normally almost entirely indifferent to the background music in coffee shops but it's been really bugging me here. Right now they are playing Ed Sheeran rather loudly, which for me is like fingernails on blackboards. The other day it was some twangy country music I also found unbearable. I'm going to start bringing my earbuds. read more

Best coffee and best customer service. We came Monday morning, it was a little busy but they took care of everybody no waiting. Must try acacia trio. And baby shakshuka. read more

Received a very bitter (otherwise flavorless) espresso with little to no crema. avoid if you actually like good coffee.

DANGEROUS DOOR, do not go! Hurt my finger so badly and they didn't even care! Very very dan

Meh. I got an oat milk mocha. It didn't taste like coffee or chocolate, just tasted like hot oat milk, which was unfortunate. Probably won't try again - the place seems a little on the fancy side for me. Everyone was nice though. read more

This place is great, serving top notch Intelligentsia coffee. Fair prices and excellent vibe. Word to the wise there is a Spectrum WiFi hotspot there or nearby so if you have Spectrum you are going to get some fast internet. Love this place! read more

I love coming to this place for a great chai latte and to also do some work when I occasionally work remotely. The music is great and the noise level is always perfect. I especially appreciate the kind guys who work behind the counter. Once, I spilled my chai latte by accident while I was doing work and they cleaned it up for me and insisted that I go back to doing my work after I tried to help and they also replaced my chai free of charge! Make sure to check out the wallpaper in the bathroom. Very unique ode to Brooklyn and all of it's neighborhoods. read more

As a freelancer, I'm constantly on a quest to find a coffee shop with the best ~work vibes~ in Brooklyn. Velvette nearly derailed that quest altogether because I kept coming back, and coming back, and coming back. From the light to the playlist to the staff to the Brooklyn-themed wallpaper in the bathrooms, every aspect of this coffee shop is warm and welcoming. The drinks themselves are always made quickly and skillfully, and the pastries are sold for a discounted price after 4pm. I've always found a spot to sit, even during the afternoon rush. Velvette is a great place to call home. read more

Great place, tasty coffee, good service and they have pierogi. Can't wait to come back. Comfy place to sit and just work, not too loud, but also not silent. Unlike the review below, I don't think this place is too fancy, seems just right for a neighborhood that's developing.. 5/5, would come back anytime read more

Nice spot to work during the afternoon, especially when trying to escape the heat of your apartment during the summer. The coffee is honestly a bit "meh" but food and vibe is good. I've been here several times and had an açaí bowl, which was good and also the shahsuka which was delicious! I'll def be back! read more

I needed to kill sometime before a haircut and so happy to have found this coffee shop.
