Walked in on a sunny weekend around 11am and there was barely a line and plenty of selection. Some of the pastries I tried were hit or miss (and maybe more of a personal preference), but overall I would definitely come back. There is a wide selection to try! Inside looks small, but there's surprisingly a good amount of seating in the back, both inside and out. If there's a line to order it moves incredibly fast. Some standouts were the nectarine danish and jalapeño cheddar croissant (recommend getting it warmed up). I personally found the egg cup pastry a bit bland, though it seems popular. My Park Slope friend raved about this place (ranked #1 out of her list of ten or so local spots) so I had to check it out during my nyc staycation. I woke up earlllllly and got there at 7:15a per her recommendation to see the display when it's "beautiful and full." And that it was! Options galore. After a couple of deep breaths to take in all of the aromas, I went with the rational (who even am I!?) choice and opted for two pastries--a sweet chocolate croissant and a savory egg bake. They were magnificent choices. I quickly walked back chez moi and for a second thought that it was too early to eat. But no, that egg bake lured me in. It was warm and creamy and flakey and savory and omg just divine. I proceeded to have the whole thing at 7:27a. Not a crumb was spared. And then late morning came around and I remembered I loved myself enough to also get a pain au chocolat. I have a pretty good artisanal bakery in my 'hood, but I had yet to taste a chocolate croissant stateside that equally distributes their chocolate on both sides...until Simple Loaf! Wowie! Overall, I think this is a nice bakery. There is quite a bit of seating in the back as well as an outdoor patio. We ordered a few laminated pastries as well as two breakfast items. The quiche we ordered was incredibly tasty; the crust was perfect, and the egg mixture melted in your mouth. I was less enthused about the mushroom danish and strawberries and cream pastry. I decided to try the Chocolate Babka here bc I thought I knew from chocolate babka but there is a reason it sells out as soon as it's baked here... Really nice cozy cafe with standard bakery fare and other unique options. Their BEC croissant is fantastic - croissant is super flaky and soft, with thick cut bacon and fluffy eggs to match. My husband really likes their breakfast egg sandwich (poached egg). They have a nice quaint seating area towards the back - not a whole ton of room for a stroller but you can squeeze one toward the very back if available! We ordered: - Kouign Amann - bottom was nicely caramelized and chewy, but top was burnt - Pain Suisse - extremely large and great value for price! this was my favorite out of the three, though personally I would likely go for almond croissant in the future; it had a nice crunch on the outside, and the chocolate didn't overwhelm with sweetness. I do think a pain suisse is technically supposed to contain custard itself, so this was more of a pain au chocolat. - Plain Croissant - well-shaped and perfectly golden! however it was a bit dense and chewy inside read more

My fav artisan bakehouse in Park Slope, Brooklyn! It was my second visit and I could proudly guarantee that their pastries never let us down. It was quite busy at weekends but they provide plenty of indoor and outdoor tables, which is rare for a bakery! The backyard seats are comfy for gatherings or working, with a clean restroom. ＊Hot Cross Buns I came during Easter weekend and surprisingly found that they had hot cross buns! Best excuse to grab the once-in-a-year festive bread to celebrate Easter Sunday. Hot cross bun is a sweet yeasted bun marked with a cross on top in memory of crucifixion. The ones by Simple Loaf were studded with tangy raisins, citrus peels, yet the mixed spice was rather mild. It was denser than I thought, but we really enjoyed the complexity of flavors. Better eat it fresh as the bread texture becomes harder over time! ＊Kouign Amann This kouign amann was HUGE. Probably the largest one I have ever seen so far lol. I stopped by for lunch today and picked up a Pasteis de Nata along with a BLT (Pork Belly Bacon, Bibb Lettuce, Heirloom Tomato, Garlic Buttermilk Mayo). I've had a lot of BLTs in my life, and this BLT is definitely stands out as one of the best ones I've had: the thick-cut bread is toasted to perfection, there is a generous amount of crispy, well-rendered thick-cut bacon, the tomatoes are juicy, the lettuce is crisp, and there's just the right amount of mayo to keep the sandwich moist. The Pasteis de Nata was a great way to finish off the meal! The puff pastry was crunchy despite being in close contact to the eggy custard. The custard itself was not too sweet either! I enjoyed coming here for their wonderful pastries. They also have a little sit down in the back. Their pastries are the bomb and so are their breakfast. I went with my husband, brother-in-law, and brother-in-law's boyfriend. My husband either got the turkey or the BLT, I can't remember. I got the 1/2 avocado sandwich with a side salad. The boyfriend got the french toast, and I can't remember what my brother-in-law got. I don't remember him getting anything. The avocado sandwich was amazing. You feel super full and healthy after eating it. I also tried some of the challah french toast - it was almost like a pudding consistency, it was that soft, but still really good. I specifically came here for the kouign amans and what I have learned is that kouign amans look different and are different in every place I have ever been. The kouign aman here, isn't shaped like ones I have had, but it was flavorful. I also had a raisin cinnamon role that was also very good. It was a great experience, met friends here. My gf who lives in Brooklyn swears by this bakery. Pastry selection is varied and the danishes are larger than my head! Very cozy bake shop that has extended and outdoor seating towards the back. Staff are very cordial and warm. Space is clean and brightly lit. Alot of local patrons. I got a breakfast sandwich (slightly greasy sourdough) but the fixings are amazing!!! They don't skimp on the avocado, are light on the bacon (how I like it), and they have halved boiled eggs which are warm and soft. If you dine in, slather on the hotsauce and ketchup! They have condiments in a large tray, self-serve iced water, napkins, etc. I also got a blueberry danish. Danishes are usually not my thing but it was just so tempting! The bread is flaky like a croissant, very fresh! And the blueberry preserve is only slightly sweet so the berries themselves are at the forefront, flavorwise. Very easily shared with another person. I was really tempted by alot of the pastries - pasteis de nata (a staff favorite, filled with a vanilla custard that isn't too egg-y or sweet), the kouign aman, the CHOCOLATE BABKA!, and the poached egg and sliced pork belly pastry cup. I missed out on getting that pulled pork sandwich too!!!! I will have to come back again since I'm staying in the area. Prices for the pastries are very reasonable. Sandwich prices are slightly on the higher end. I just recently visited this place this weekend and I can't believe it's taken me so many years to finally stumble upon this place! The shop is small but has decent inside and outdoor space. The bread is soo crispy and fresh. I'm a big fan of pulled pork and while it's not the best one I've ever had it does satisfy the taste buds. Very juicy and flavorful. The grilled cheese is also very cheesey with multiple cheeses (I couldn't discern which ones). The breakfast sandwich is classic ingredients in really fresh pair of toasted bread. Really the bread is the best part of each meal. Don't order too much because it definitely does not taste as good or do the food justice when you eat as leftovers! Found this bakery for a quick cute brunch with my parents in town. We were so overwhelmed with all the choices in the display case, as well as all the different baguettes and loaves of bread. We finally settled on the potato scallion and cheese frittata and some pastries - pasteis de nata, kouign amann, raspberry danish, and sticky bun cinnamon roll. All of it was great, although tough to cut into 4 shareable sizes. The frittata was my favorite, followed by the sticky bun, then the kouign amann (dipped in my coffee), then the raspberry danish. We also got a rosemary meyer lemon sourdough to go. This wasn't the best, especially compared to some other sourdough offerings in the neighborhood. A little overcooked on the outside and pretty dry on the inside. Not particularly flavorful, but I appreciate the flavor profile they were going for. Definitely something you want to eat fresh, not specifically shelf stable. Would definitely come again for the breakfast pastries and coffee as a weekend treat. read more

Bad service. Overpriced & inadequate food. I visited this cafe in hopes to find a light lunch and pleasant ambiance along our exploration of Park Slope on my birthday. Off first glance, the cafe is charming and offers a wide variety. After ordering, we asked if we could sit out front by the street. The empty tables were filled with dirty plates and utensils left by previous customers. We asked the woman who took our order if anyone was sitting there (clearly no one was) and she replied "I have no idea". We then asked if the tables could be cleared so we could sit. She begrudgingly walked by us, proceeded outside, threw the plates in the bin, and walked back inside. After saying "thank you", she didn't bother to glance our way. I received the avocado toast I ordered, which cost a whopping $18.78 and laughed in despair. It was such a sad piece of hard sourdough bread with 4 tiny slices of tomato and a stale avocado. Simple Loaf is an adorable bakery and cafe in Park Slope. I came by on a weekday morning and got the bbq pork sandwich, pasteis de nata, and chocolate almond scone. Everything was absolutely incredible. I didn't know this until I got there, but the pictures don't do these pastries justice - their pastries are all massive!! I'm glad I got the half sandwich, because even that is big. The scone was like half scone and half croissant, since it had a lot of thin, flaky layers. Prices are reasonable, especially considering portions. They have really pretty outdoor seating on the patio, too! And I love that they don't play music, or if they do, it's quiet. Absolutely delicious! I've been meaning to stop by Simple Loaf for a while now as it's so close to me in Park Slope and I'm kind of sad that I waited this long! You can tell their baked goods and pastries are made fresh! I got the 1/2 breakfast sandwich (w/o bacon), kouignn amann, and butter croissant. Their breakfast sandwich was absolutely delicious. I love that you can choose between half or a whole as many times I want both savory and sweet as part of brunch/breakfast. The half sandwich was the perfect size. The eggs are perfectly poached and you can also choose to have your eggs cooked differently! Oh and don't even get me started on the bread! The sandwich is made with a perfectly fluffy sourdough that was seriously impressive! The kouignn amann was very good (I compare all kouign amanns to my favorite - Dominique Ansel). I loved that the top of it was nicely caramelized and had a good crunch! The butter croissant was equally well-crafted and I can't wait to go back and try more! Don't let the front of the bakery fool you, they have a good amount of tables in the back, both inside and outside as well as outside in the front. I appreciated that the table were reasonably sized and comfortable, which is not always the case at NYC bakeries/cafes. Overall, a gem of a bakery if you're in the Park Slope area! I've been here on two occasions now and both have been really lovely. Kind staff. Ample seating indoors as well as two outdoor patio spaces- out front where they allow dogs and out back. Great spot for delicious breakfast and a slow catch up. I never feel rushed here. The selection for breakfast is vast. I always have a hard time deciding because they have everything from croissants to danishes to frittatas to delicious sandwiches that all span the gamut of sweet to savory. There's something here for everyone. The breakfast sandwich & a sweet item to share is the go to whenever I come with a friend. Importantly, coffee is strong, espresso is smooth. Park Slope has no shortage of amazing bakeries, but I keep going out of my way to make a stop at Simple Loaf on the weekends! I've never had a pastry there I didn't enjoy - the apricot danish, chocolate almond croissant, and baked egg (see picture) are all amazing! They also have the widest selection of vegan goodies I've seen in any local bakery. My friend got the chocolate croissant today, and it was flaky and delicious. There is a great amount of space indoors, as well as a cute backyard or sidewalk seating for warmer days. A good study spot, and I regularly see folks there with books or laptops. There's an espresso bar and more substantial brunch\lunch items for those who want them (or arrive after all the pastries are sold out!). Yum! read more
