After my Thai lunch I decided I needed coffee, my first cup of the day. I Yelped places on Franklin Avenue and Bien Cuit popped up. I have visited Bien Cuit at Grand Central Market and remembered its fabulous breads. The inside of Bien Cuit is charming and warm although I didn't smell freshly baked bread. I wanted a sweet treat with my coffee and stared at the assortment of sweet and savory. There was a nice assortment of cookies, croissants and danishes. I decided on a medium cafe au lait and chocolate chip cookie. I found a seat opposite door that leads to their garden. If it wasn't so windy I would have preferred to eat Al fresco. My coffee was prepared swiftly and I took my first sip and it was warm and soothing.. The cookie was good but I think I'm over sea salt as an ingredient in cookies. The ambiance here is calming and a nice break between a busy day. Here's the disconnect: I'm really tired of surcharges for milk varieties. Almond, soy and oat are not extravagant milk choices. Any coffee shop catering to diversity in food preferences should offer different varieties as part of your service. The customer shouldn't have to pay for that, iMO. Thus paying close to $10 for a little cup of cafe au lait and a cookie certainly isn't worth it. Added in is the 80 cent surcharge for oat milk.definitely not worth it. As for the service, like the cookie a mix of sweet and salty. The three stars are really for the charming atmosphere. Franklin Avenue, I'm probably sounding like a broken record, has a wealth of coffee places that are a bit better than this.

Egg Bacon Cheddar Breakfast Sandwich - A breakfast sandwich with scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and melted cheddar cheese is shown inside a fried bread roll with a dark, caramelized crust. The sandwich is held in a person's hand, with the background slightly blurred, indicating an indoor setting. The sandwich is part of offerings at an artisanal bakery known for its breads and pastries.

There are so many coffee shops on Franklin Street but this one is a cut above the others... 1. The pleasant and smiley gentleman working on weekday mornings! 2. The ample seatings in front and out back. 3. The breakfast sandwich with a croissant as the bun. The croissant was buttery and flaky. The egg was custard like! I haven't had an egg that good in a long time. Overall it had a great balance of traditional flavors of a breakfast sandwich with a hint of sweetness.

The image shows three baked goods on a marble surface. A tart decorated with dollops of cream, a small piece of fruit, and a crumbly topping is placed on a paper-lined tray. A partially eaten chocolate cake with a crumbly top is wrapped in white paper, and a chocolate croissant dusted with powdered sugar is in a paper wrapper. The items are arranged with some paper wrappings and a brown paper bag in the background.

This place is quite expensive, but everything I had here was very good, including the apricot tart ($13) the ginger molasses cookie($4.25), And salted chocolate buckwheat cookie ($3.25).

I had the chocolate almond croissant here, and holy fuck, it's so unbelievably good. It looked alright and I wasn't expecting much tbh,but it hits on every single note just right. The pastry is flaky, buttery, and decadent in all the right ways, the chocolate is good, and the almond filling is delicious but not too sweet. Usually, my hangup about "Pain Au Chocolat" is that they just put one sliver of chocolate in the pastry, and that's it, and it always kind of feels a little lackluster overall? But here, the bites that don't have the chocolate have the almond filling in them, and like my gurl Hanna Montana said, it's the best of both worlds LOL. This pastry can be a lot so it's probably a "treat yourself" kind of thing every once and a while but damn, is it good. I haven't gotten to try their other items but I can say this is very good. (Ask them to warm it up a little if you can)

A round loaf of artisanal sourdough bread with a dark, caramelized crust and visible scoring on the surface. The bread is placed on brown paper, with a textured blue background. The crust shows signs of long fermentation and baking, characteristic of traditional sourdough baking.

3.5 rounded up -- I came in here for a loaf of bread and it was pretty expensive ($15) but it was exceptionally delicious. I asked for assistance and while the gentleman working gave me some tips about which bread to get, I wouldn't say it was the friendliest customer service. I wish I remembered what bread I got, but I was very happy with what it was. The gentleman said it was one of the best sellers so I hope that I'll be able to get it again next time I go in.

Walking in the place looked very nice and quaint. I saw the options in the display case and fell in love with all that I saw. The young lady that was at the counter was very helpful. I bought two things even though I wanted all lol.

    Waiting for pickup :)

Mid-day Thursday. Mocha - was divine and strong. Will order again. Chocolate chip cookie - stale. Disappointed here because they usually offer fresh pastries but my tooth almost broke when I tried to bite into it. Hopefully it was only a one time thing.

    Love the spring water.

This is an amazing experience I came here on a recommendation, I ate the ham and egg quiche and it was amazing. The staff is real friendly help me pick out a to go order/gift bag. One of the ladies even wanted to help me conquer my fear of bugs. I will be coming again. The bread selection is huge, and award winning.

    Croissant from heaven.

When it comes to buttery flaky delicate and purely delicious croissants this place delivers. I think this has to be the best croissant I've ever had. The buttery soft fluffy pillow like texture is everything crossaint dreams are made of. They have an open window storefront where they begin working very early in the AM, and you can watch them make everything from scratch. I really suggest paying the price tag for this croissant because there really isn't a question with this type of quality. They have a large selection of other items and they all look delicious. Cash and credit accepted, try that croissant !

Paper stuck hard on pastry (plus other smushed pastries in the back)

The drinks are above average (3.5 stars), the pastries are good (4 stars), and the bread is great (5 stars). Location is convenient, and they even have a spacious backyard sitting area. However, the service is somewhat lacking. Just today, I purchased over $40 worth of pastries and bread only to find that the cashier had placed them all UPSIDE DOWN and stacked one on top of the other. Because we asked to heat two of the pastries, they all stuck to the paper and all the powder and sugar came off the ones which had it. There have also been other service issues in the past, but this one is what's leading me to write this. I'm so annoyed lol!! To me, it seems like an issue of understaffing. Most of the times I'm there, I see just one person behind the counter running the register, drinks, and bread/pastries. For that reason, I will chalk it up to the owners to do better and properly staff and train employees. Do not put them in positions where they'll have to take shortcuts which damage the customer experience. Anything you make can be the greatest in history, but it will not be perceived as such if it's not properly taken care of. Honestly, I'll probably buy bread from there again (my girlfriend loves it) but I think I'll check out other places on Franklin for the foreseeable future because I know I'll say something I go back too soon to BC. Thanks for reading, Kevin.

I went with two friends so were able to try three different sandwiches and to be honest, they were all just alright. The food: Roast Pork Special- Fried Eggplant, Provolone, Broccoli Rob- The texture of the pork came off a bit dry, the eggplant was good but kinda gets lost in the sandwich so if I literally had it on it's own I would have appreciated it more but who eats fried eggplant by itself? The rob was nice it added a nice crunch but didn't offer that much flavor. Giuseppe Special- Eggplant parm, meatballs, melted mozzarella. I couldn't get over how soggy the bread was. It was like wet paper towel to me. Soggy bread and everything kinda tasting the same made it underwhelming. Nicky Special- It just tasted like salad in between bread. There was so much veg, that was the main thing I remember in that sandwich.

There's a cooler with drinks and salads as you enter on the right. The sandwiches, however, are something special. On my first visit I went with something familiar, the Mean Streets (their Italian sandwich). The bread itself is fantastic (locally baked), and the toppings delicious as well (if I recall correctly the dressings are house made). Pleasantly, they also give you a paper plate with your order, which is a nice touch compared to eating off a wrapper. I enjoyed the first sandwich so much I came back the next day to try the No Sleep Til Gravesend. The sandwich is essentially a hot roast beef sandwich, with a jus on the sandwich reminiscent of a French Dip. Perfect on a cold, rainy day. Overall, 1 of 1 has great (and mostly house made) ingredients and great execution. There's a level of creativity on the menu that you rarely see elsewhere in the city. 1 of 1 is among the best sandwich shops in the city, and a very welcome addition to the area.

And one of the greatest chefs I've ever had the pleasure to know. And I've known my share of cats who made their livings and their names in a kitchen. From the very first day I discovered Brancaccio's I felt a magic a connection that I knew would change my life, make my belly really f--kin' happy and set my soul a-dancin'. On that first day Joe and I talked about the great food of NY; most of it gone but not forgotten by those who were of the time. We both lamented the lose of the legendary Zito's bakery on Bleecker. I can't tell you how long it had been since I'd ran into someone who even remembered Zito's much less was intimate with the place. I knew I was home. This was well over a decade ago. I won't go into specific things on Joe's menu that are worth trying because quite literally... everything is amazing. It just is! Soul satisfying beyond my ability to do justice to. I'd also like to throw out as an example of the humanity of the joint and it's capt. Joe... Joe treats his employees with respect, R E S P E C T as Aretha belted, dignity and the aforementioned humanity which is beautiful and virtually non-existent these days as far as I can see... and you can taste it in his food. That's just a big-ass Right On! Finally I like to say two or three things: First that as I initially identified myself as "used to being a regular" as and this is by no means a boo-hoo thing simply a fact... And as a matter of fact during the recent drag of days for me a thought kept slamming into the walls of my head and that was that I couldn't wait to once again sink my teeth into Joe's food. Well that day is here and I'm salivating at the thought. "I'll take one of everything my man!" Secondly, understand I've never written anything like this... I'm actually down on the whole review culture. So if this sounds at all "over the top"... or written by a cousin who Joe owes money to, get that thought right out of your head. All of I said is sincere and one from the heart. And lastly an additional "oh yea baby" to Joe's taste in music.

It was pretty tasty, but I must say I wasn't as blown away as I'd expected. The sausage sandwich got a bit soggy from all of the marinara (which I wasn't expecting based on the description), so I was less excited about it. It was way too much food for two people.
