Saraghina has a rotating assortment of daily baked goods, and they also even sell olive oil by weight, and other curated specialty food items. The standout item is definitely the focaccia. The olive focaccia in particular was excellent: crispy on the outside, soft and airy inside, and packed with flavor. They also rotate other flavored foccacias that come out closer to lunch, which honestly gives you a reason to come back later in the day. The almond croissant was solid too, flaky and well-balanced without being overly sweet. They also sell giant chocolate chip cookies the size of your face- cool for the wow factor, and it's a 3.5/5 for flavor and texture- I wouldn't get again. The "raisin croissant" was a letdown. It's really more like soft swirled bread than an actual croissant, so adjust expectations accordingly. They also have a raspberry-filled croissant if you like filled breads. Seating inside is very limited- basically just a tiny high-top situation. Warning, it gets pretty busy on weekend mornings (line crawls down the block sometimes!). read more

I walk by this bakery daily almost. I've never stepped foot in it until a few days ago. I ordered a croissant, and a chocolate chip cookie. The croissant was nice and flaky, buttery as well it nice. I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie which had sea salt on the top of it. It was pretty good. It's a crunchy kind of cookie. The salt was a nice touch. It wasn't overpowering at all. I just came here on 01/16 at 2pm and a young light skin guy and young white girl were working and I've never seen them before at the register. everytime I come here I easily spend $60+ and always tip well just for the cafe. I came today and ordered two pastries and a sandwich and they just handed it to me no words nothing. I asked them," could you please warm up the sandwich?" and the girl said, "we don't have anything to warm sandwiches up with" completely LIED to my face. As a frequent customer at Saraghina Pizza, it should've come as no surprise that I'd love their Bakery. My only wish is that I'd become a regular here sooner! What jumps out to me is how fresh everything is here. Fresh bread, fresh pasta, fresh pastries. They even stock a selection of (admittedly, quite pricey) homemade gelatos. It smells like heaven as soon as you walk in the door. They have a wide variety of dry and canned goods for sale, things like jams and preserves, tinned fish, oils, and sauces. There's a small fridge section with delicious cheeses and meats to purchase, and also Bolognese sauce that's made in-house. I recently bought some of their pappardelle for pasta night at home and was not disappointed. The breads are delicious, featuring baguette, filone, and mica among others. The sea salt chocolate chip cookie, while $5, is bigger than a baby's face and has the unique quality of tasting like a cookie and also kind of like a brownie? Totally worth treating yourself to. I absolutely love the ham and cheese croissant that's recently popped up, too. They have a rotating selection of sandwiches so pop in and see what suites your fancy. I'm always looking for a new Italian bakery. I assumed Saraghina, ends in a vowel? Maybe they're Italian, they make good bread, I left with more of a hipster vibe. The reason why I'm focused on an Italian bakery, I'm assuming there will be Italian desserts as well as bread. Walking in, it's a tight space. There's a small grab and go refrigerator stocked with expensive teas. What I'm not seeing are the many Italian cakes and cookies on display. I'm having company over later so my wife asked me to pick up bread as well as dessert. I spy with my little eye a well crafted loaf of bread. I'm pretty sure it's Italian, Filone ends in a vowel?? Regardless of the bread origins, this is hearty, well crafted bread. We couldn't finish it all in one sitting, the next day the bread was spongy. Mamma S didn't raise no dummy! I split the remaining loaf and made a sexy garlic bread. Mmm mm! As for dessert, slim pickins being offered. I grabbed two packages of Tiramisu but didn't read the price. When the cashier rang up the price, I almost fainted! Their Tiramisu is a little pricey so I put one package back. My wife & I both gave the Tiramisu high praise. When we searched for the best Almond Croissant in the neighborhood, Saraghina Bakery popped up on the result list. The decor is adorable and narrow-spaced with no indoor seating, only 4 people maximum are allowed at one time. Their options of pastry were limited and we had their Almond Croissant, Scone & a bag of Granola. Everything was amazingly delicious, especially the Almond Croissant . The filling was creamy and the texture was crispy & layered. My cortado tastes more like a latte and it's barely drinkable because of how heavy handed they were with the vanilla sweetener. I've gone a few times and it's been the same so for future I'll just order a double shot of espresso over ice and add the milk and sweetener myself because they're the most convienient cafe for me since it's close to my house. I can't believe my bad luck with this place. I hate giving bad ratings but it's because I am a regular and I have had enough having my order being messed up and just for how this hidden gem has turned into something it should never be: continuous disappointment. Please, please, please do something for it to come back to its past glory! But here's the thing, when you have high standards and high prices you can't let the standards go down and the prices still be up! It means you have to insure consistent high quality. Insure it no matter what. I have countless stories where I was disappointed, it's almost a family joke at this point. The other day, it was the over-baked chocolate croissants. (in France, it's so sacred to provide the quality and consistency you need this batch would have been thrown away, it's how serious they take messing up over there and the pressure on the baker is high, DONT PLAY AROUND AND MESS WITH THE OVEN! Don't miss the timer! That's one thing, that other day I got the chocolate croissant (pain au chocolat) and a ricotta danish, both over-cooked and dry. That was last week. But today, I ordered a croissant sandwich, which already you have to wait forever in line before they sell out, lining up with people I usually never see my neighborhood (probably people from Bushwick or something) to later arrive home all eager to bite into my $6,50 croissant sandwich (with cheese and ham) to find it cut in two with guess what NOTHING INSIDE!! Is this a sign from the Heavens for me to just cut on carbs forever?! Maybe... Now, come on! I really have to write this because it should be a wake up call when your most loyal customer is fed up. Despite never knowing what I will get, I still used to go because I hoped it would be fine on that day, pushing my luck, but then these little moments like that make me wonder if I should just stop altogether. The new non regular customers will probably never know. No one reads Yelp anymore so, maybe it's fine after all. I live in this neighborhood for more than 6 years, I have known the neighborhood without a Saraghina Bakery and just when the restaurant opened I was often in here prior to making it home, I hope it means something. I care about my local businesses and about hard working and creating people and was so grateful to have a place like this nearby, but now it feels like a heart break honestly. They work magic with their dough because everything I tried was fabulous. Aside from the bakery, they have a whole market of jams, sauces, pastas, cheeses, and even fresh veggies. They serve croissants and muffins ideal for breakfast on the go but the highlight for me was the selection of cookies/sweets. Some of them were more unique like the hazelnut cookie or cardamom shortbread but they also had old standby favorites like a classic chocolate chip cookie. I bought a double chocolate cookie which was topped with powdered sugar for a $1 which was heavenly. As soon as I finished it, I immediately wanted another and pondered buying up the rest of them! By some miracle of miracles though, I managed to exert some self control. I imagine the good stuff starts selling out by the end of the day so come early for the best selection. Just a heads up this is NOT a sit down cafe. For seating, they have a little window nook big enough for 2 people, possibly 3 skinny minnies. My friend and I were able to nab these seats for a little bit to warm up from the cold but most of the business here consists of people popping in for a quick drink or pastry to take to go. They also sell a wide variety of Italian goods ie. pasta and olive oil. My friend and I were looking for some special NYC goodies to take back to our respective homes as gifts and this place wasn't quite right for that. I was a fan of Saraghina Bakery pre-pandemic, and then they kept me from having to make my own bread or pasta during our shelter in place period, so they have become my go-to. I usually stop in twice a week, sometimes more when I'm grabbing treats on the go. I used to stop in for treats and snacks to bring to parties, now I treat myself--the almond croissant is a fav, as well as the chocolate chip cookies and anything with lemon curd. The sandwiches go fast (and seem to change seasonally, which I don't mind) but if you can grab one, you're in for an excellent lunch. The tuna is my favorite, followed by this eggplant situation I have now lucked into eating twice. There used to be a BLT but that might have been a pandemic menu option. They also sell homemade sauces, like ragu (meat or veggie) and the best pesto I've ever tasted. There's an assortment of home good items, like canned fish, jams, dry pasta, and the like, as well as fancy cheese and dried meats for your cheese plate creations. And how could I forget the most important thing: the bread. My favorites include the sesame bastone (perfect for sandwiches and snacking), the flax and sunflower seed micca, and the focaccia and it's cute cousin the focacella! The bakery has limited hours and a very loyal following of return customers. They offer a wide variety of cafe items and baked goods. This time, however, I forgone baked goods and ordered their house made bolognese sauce. Next to homemade, Saraghina Bakery offers some of the best bolognese sauce for takeout that I've ever had. Quite simply some of the best bread I've had in Brooklyn. Fluffy with a crisp but not tough crust, and while pricey, the quality and size is well worth it. After having tried one of their baguettes or sourdoughs, you'll have trouble going back to anything else. The staff is delightful, the place smells like heaven, and there's all sorts of goodies available.
