The oyster mushrooms and corn was interesting but not as amazing as the sourdough. We ordered two dishes for this and I felt like it wasn't enough. The ricotta is just so creamy and definitely left me wanting more. For secondary we ordered mackerel toast and the shrimp! These were definitely one of the most memorable and the mackerel was raw which was so fun and interesting play on texture with the cream cheese toast. Definitely something I would like to eat often for breakfast as it's similar to lox but not smokey and just super fresh and neutral. The shrimp was absolute star of the show. I don't have much notes on that other than it was spectacular. The way they grilled it or cooked it was just love! For the mains we shared the half chicken and the tilefish local specialty dish! I think the chicken you can skip but I definitely think the fish was one of the best fish I've eaten recently! I love the tomatoes and way they flavored it. But now I literally had to flag down our waitress and I still didn't get her attention, another waitress came over to help us get our check. We also didn't get checked on at all, luckily our food was good and right. The table next to us didn't get greeted for water or anything so they had to flag down the guy delivering food to get a waitress. This was very good, and we tackled it with zest, devouring it with the accompanying pita bread. We also ordered the falafel, chicken shawarma platter and beef kebab platter. The chicken shawarma was decent, but I would have loved more chicken and bigger pieces. There was considerably more rice than chicken, which made the platter feel a little unbalanced. The beef kebab was better, with a good portion of meat and rice, and the accompanying vegetables weren't too bad either. One disappointment for me was the lack of a proper hot sauce. Something with a little heat and flavor would have paired really well with both the shawarma and kebab and, for me, would have elevated the meal. Founding chef is a James Beard awardee. Wonderful literary references aside, I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The assortment of unlimited salatim, Hebrew for salad, was enjoyable and easily filed me without the guilt of overeating. And the view of the Manhattan skyline from the restaurant is just splendid. And one caveat, this Israeli meal is my small reminder that we should never judge or be judged by the actions of governments or political leaders. Humanity is always bigger than politics. Hatred becomes dangerous when we stop seeing people as individuals and start judging entire groups. History has shown us where that can lead. This is a reminder to myself and to anyone seeking peace and love (Channeling George Harrison and John Lennon, still have a bit of beatlemania from my Liverpool trip ).
