This is my favorite bakery place in Park Slope. The neighborhood is super chill and quiet. I love their sandwiches. But also they have the best monkey bread of all time! You order at the window and there's sitting outside. They have breakfast items too. Service is always fast. Cute bakery!

Better experience this time - no line and great loaf of bread. It's very cold outside right now. I would go here more often if there was a quick & easy way to make a purchase.

So you know what they say about the people who feel the need to declare boldly what they are... they tend to not be that thing. (Is this actually a belief?) Anyway, naturally, I was walking up to this place thinking that if Winner was actually a winner they didn't really have to call themselves Winner. You know? But turns out they absolutely did because if I weren't straight up processing that whole thing, I don't know if I would have found Winner in a sea of other competitive Park Slope establishments. Winner did put a substantial dent in that theory, by the way. Apparently it's not entirely true. Some people just like to boast :). So about the winning goods...It was late afternoon and I was looking for a snack so I settled on a pretzel (came highly recommended), a maple chocolate cookie, and an oat chai. First of all, I'm not even a pretzel fan but I do believe in taking risks. Because I had declared that I would warm it up "later," the person at the counter recommended no cheese. Ready to be like "I still don't care for pretzels," I un-enthusiastically took a bite as soon I made it back to my abode, only to become a convert in seconds. I didn't even have it warm! Apparently I really like Winner's pretzels. It was not overly salted. And you can really taste the freshness and quality ingredients. They are alledgedly dipped in lye. Anyway, I could only imagine how elevated the cheese could have made it. Following that thought, I had the greatest idea to eat the maple choc chip cookie concurrently with the pretzel. It was sweet and salty and ridiculous and it worked. A winning combo! 10/10 recommend. Sorry pretzel purists. You know, however, what was more like a bronze medallist or deserving of no placement at all? The oat chai. Couldn't really taste any spices. Just tasted like warm milk. All in all, Winner is worth a visit and I would try more pastries and maybe actual lunch if I'm in the neighborhood. At the very least, I would definitely order their pretzel!

Returned and finally tried the sourdough croissant, which was excellent. Chicken salad sandwich was also great, but not worth $18.50 after tax.

Winner lives up to its name!! They make some of the best breads and baked goods in NYC. My favorite is their buckwheat sourdough. It's the best sourdough bread I've ever tasted and so unique. I try to come by on a weekly basis to buy this specific loaf. The service here is always great as the staff is helpful and nice. The ordering window is off to the side on 11th street and there are only outdoor tables. Great place to just chill have coffee and a pastry on a gorgeous day. If you have yet to go to Winner then do your tastebuds a favor and check them out. You can thank me later.

Heading out of NYC, thought we'd do a quick lunch at Winner as the noted Pete Wells called their beef patty as one of the top dishes of 2023. We were driving so parking is challenging. Somehow after circling the block once we found a spot a short walk away. Good and quick service. A nice space. Unfortunately, they were sold out of beef patties (1 PM). We ordered a fish patty, Ric & Morty, Midnight Club, and beef stew. All tasty except a bit too much arugula on the R&M and the patty was quite "fishy". So overall a good first visit and hopefully they will have beef patties next time....

Many pastries and breads - the special bread of the day was a seeded oat sourdough that was delicious! The oat milk latte was okay - the coffee tasted slightly burned. I'd love to return for their brunch/lunch offerings (I've heard great things about the veggie bahn mi). Lots of outdoor seating and you order at the window. Super cute!

Fantastic quality food would absolutely go here again. Leroy's gift shop right up the street so you can explore there while you wait for your food.

I'm going to keep this simple for you. Here are the facts you need to know: 1. I have a neighbor, and I highly recommend that you get one of these, who likes to bring me baked goods. (I suppose he could be hitting on me, but our wives are friends too.) Thus far from Winner, he's brought me multiple baguettes and chocolate chip cookies. 2. These might be not only the best baguettes I've had in NYC, but also the best chocolate chip cookies as well. (Amazing things to be the best at.) 3. I started to tell a friend who lived near Winner that he should really check it out. And his answer was, "What are you stupid? I eat their breakfast sandwiches on the regular." 4. Everything sells out. To sum up: The only things I've tried from Winner so far are about as good as you can get in their individual categories in all of NYC. Everyone knows it's the best. So get on board already.

    French Dip

Wait in the cold rain for a $20 Sandwich? Sometimes! Today I did the george costanza and did not have the best cuban sandwich in the world. I ventured out into the strange new world of the Winner French Dip, and it practically melted in my mouth. Very well balanced without losing focus on the star: the juicy and velvety house roasted beef. The roll is not something i would normally find myself ordering, but it was perfect. Honestly I don't know how i will ever have one of those regular deli roast beef sandwiches again. When you are in love, everything else seems.....

You must have the Brussels sprouts!! I'd go back for those in a minute! I very much enjoyed my salmon dish. Lovely presentation and preparation but portion a bit small. Walked in and was able to get a seat without reservation, but it definitely filled up by 6/7 pm. The place is dimly lit and the tables are quite small. For the food, we got their Brussel sprouts, shrimp, salmon entree and chicken entree. Our favorite were definitely the shrimp. But everything else when eaten together tasted a bit too greasy and felt monotonous in terms of flavor. Brussel sprouts were fried and held to a decent amount of oil, then the addition of tahini made it even more oily. Pan chicken we expected whole pieces of chicken but it was more like a thin chicken cutlet. The salmon came with a cauliflower puree which tasted so rich (with butter), but I couldn't finish it bc it was so rich.

I ordered a single burger and a Sudan spiced peanut butter latte, for ~$15! That's pretty inexpensive for New York City. I note this as some consider it overpriced. I suppose the food is fairly inexpensive, the lattes slightly higher than average. The "burger" comes wrapped in a homemade pita with diced cucumber, onion, and tomato, plus a few crispy, thick-cut fries and a yummy house sauce. It was a cool twist of the traditional burger and had a nice flavor. The sauce was like a slightly Mediterranean version of Big Mac sauce. The girl working as the barista and cashier was very nice and friendly. She had a nice presence and warm smile, made suggestions, and even gave a stranger free utensils when they popped on to ask. I think it's definitely worth checking out, and it's a good place for a cheap & simple meal that's still quirky and fun.

Perhaps I should have anticipated that, or my mistake in ordering. I also ordered a Moroccan egg salad sandwich which was substantive but surprisingly bland--sparse with the advertised capers and pickled red onions to give it more punch. I've always loved the look of the spot and the vibe--funky decor, outside and indoor facing counters to order, with some outdoor seating for people watching on Dekalb or heading nearby Ft. Greene Park. I see they are renovating and rebranding a bit and adding some burger component. While I didn't love it, I'd definitely give it another shot.
