I've been coming to Milk Bar on occasion for a few years now and have always had pleasant experiences. I've enjoyed several salads on the menu and recall when their primary payment option was Venmo (they take cards now as well). Recently, I came by on a weekday morning for a coworking session with a friend and was happy to find solid wifi, decent coffee drinks, and enough space to cozily post up for a couple of hours. I would recommend this cafe; it's a great spot for a one-on-one catch up with a friend as well. read more

Finding a casual brunch spot on Washington, Franklin or Vanderbilt is a blood sport if you don't have a reservation in hand. More times than I can remember, Milk Bar has come to my last-minute rescue. Understand: Milk Bar is a basic place, an overgrown coffee shop that started doing food and does it well. For a long time it was cash-only. The food is eggs on toast with some optional additions, and a few more things. Coffee and breakfast drinks are their main focus. There's no table service, no cocktails, no art on the walls, no real "concept" or quirky identity. But amidst all those nos, Milk Bar serves honest, rapid, good food, reliably delivered and easy to access. A friend and I cruised the area looking for a breakfast spot and decided upon Milk Bar. I ordered the Belgian waffle and he ordered the smoked salmon and poached egg on toast. Big mistake. The waffle was dry, flavorless and didn't taste fresh. I'm thinking it was rescued from the glass container on the counter, warmed in a microwave and who knows when it was cooked. I took one bite and was done. Plus it was just one...and very small. If it had tasted good, it wouldn't have been enough. Really, how hard is it to make waffles fresh and adult sized? According to my friend, the salmon on the salmon toast was just ok but the egg didn't have any flavor. He also said the bread was dry and hard. He finished it, but we ended up walking over to the local pizza shop for a pie for lunch, as we were still really hungry. Now THAT was a good choice - thanks Brooklyn's Home Slice for saving the day. Customer service was also listless. No one came over to ask if we wanted anything else or inquire as to the lonely, untouched waffle all alone at the end of the table. Conveniently located on Vanderbilt but I came in when not crowded and stood at counter for solid 5 minutes while three staff ignored me with their back turned. I understand everyone is understaffed these days but at least acknowledge my presence. Not off to a great start. Oat milk cappuccino was delicious! "Avocado toast" was clearly guacamole on bread. Cute spot for breakfast. I judge a place like this not just for the food but the COFFEE. and this place must definitely had Delicious strong iced coffee! Notable items dishes for us were the sauteed mushroom toast and the Belgian waffle! Not just a Belgian like waffle by name but an actual Belgian waffle with the sugar beads laced all throughout the waffle, topped with a delicious juicy mix of berries and creamy dollop of mascarpone. It was truly a bit of heaven on a plate. The sauteed mushroom toast topped with a runny poached egg was packed with flavor! Space is small so not the best for large groups wanting to do a group thing but it's a great spot for families with kids or for solo dining as well. read more

One of those cute fast casual places, without too much personality, made for yuppies. Im not being harsh, its just the vibe of the place. Lots of white and blue, and a cute little "loft" area or raised seating with about three tables. I came here for brunch with friends and we had the waffles, the granola and the cheddar biscuit and scrambled egg. I would definitely recommend the waffles and the cheddar biscuit. For those interested, I asked for the staff recommendation between the sweet potato cakes and the cheddar biscuit and they recommended the cheddar biscuit. The waffles come with a generous portion of mascarpone (but to be real, there is never enough mascarpone) and the cheddar biscuit comes with a spicy sauce which is delicious. The granola was a little disappointing but its a large portion. I think the same berry compote comes with both waffles and granola. We also tried the hibiscus tea (a little sour) and the mint tea (delicious!) we were seated within 15 mins of getting there. Lots of young people and younger families dining and the wait staff was good, got us the food quickly and got us carry away stuff pretty fast as well. I don't think I'll be back unfortunately, since it wasn't super memorable but it's a solid option if you're in the area. read more

A trusted neighborhood gem, milk bar is a delicious Prospect Heights staple. I am in love with their iced lattes. I usually ask for almond milk and cinnamon powder mixed in. The baristas are friendly and execute my drink perfectly. I had originally only been coming for coffee, but when I actually looked at the menu, I knew I was missing out. The biscuit egg sandwich is BANGIN, you hear me? BANGIN. I sacrificed my aversion to whole eggs ( usually make me nauseous) and I took a bite of my friend's and I had to get my own. The avocado toast is solid. The arugula salad is well dressed and tasty. I've come here on a couple of occasions and also gobbled up their quinoa salad (dressing on the side) and it's certainly satisfying. So next time you are on the block, give the bagel shop across the street a break and give this place a try. read more

They also have a great selection of pastries and coffee drinks. I was pregnant when I came for brunch so could not have runny eggs. They had a great tuna melt option with salad that was filling and delicious. It is a tight space so seating can be limited and you may be sharing a big table with strangers. There is seating up some stairs as well and it can feel a bit cramped but it is cozy in cold weather. During not busy hours, it can be a great place to sip a coffee and get some work done. I used to work as an Amazon delivery driver and I would make my deliveries around this area. The food is very bland and not good, not to mention they literally treated me as if I was a peasant. And I noticed it when I saw other people ordering and they were being treated with great hospitality. When friends asked to go to "Milk Bar" for Sunday brunch, I should've known that they didn't mean the ice cream one. Despite my ice cream expectations, THIS Milk Bar was awesome. The menu is a little limited to eggs, toast, and coffee, and it's cash only. Our friends ordered hot items which looked delicious, and I shared the Banana Berry toast with my husband. We ate a bit beforehand so we were looking for something a little lighter and this was it! Very fresh and well balanced with the nut butter. I also enjoyed my latte. Even before sitting down, the waitress took our order for two coffees ($3ish each). Menu includes many breakfast standards as well as a few interesting options. Decided to split both the Vegetarian Eggs ($10) and Scrambled Eggs on Brioche ($9). Veggie eggs included two large pieces of sourdough toast with tomato, Swiss, and poached eggs on top. Felt the cheese didn't mesh with the bread very well, though the poached eggs made it easier to eat (with the runny yolk). Scrambled eggs on the other hand were amazing; the creme fraiche added a component that brought out the flavor of the eggs. Brioche is ready to cut through and complimented the eggs perfectly. We have breakfast here every single Monday morning before going to therapy. It took a lot of time and effort but we figured out what we like on the menu, and now they remember us and will even start making our hot beverages when they see us walk through the door. I've been frequenting this spot ever since I moved here about 5 months ago. Upon exploring the new hood, I was delighted to find this place filled with white Eames Eiffel chairs, wooden tables, and a raised wooden platform in the back where you can gaze loftily at the rest of the small, yet well-furnished space. Milk Bar is ALWAYS packed. Sometimes you can find a table during downtimes, but expect a wait otherwise. I bring my dog and sit outside with a coffee and/or a quick bite when I'm waiting for my laundry. The staff is really friendly (for the most part), and they always welcome my dog. Bonus points! On to the food. I've tried the hummus with pita and the Australian pie. Both were decent but nothing to write home about. The pita was a bit dry, but the hummus was good. The Australian Pie was tasty but way too salty, and believe me, I am a salt monster. It was also tiny for the price. The CHEDDAR BISCUIT SANDWICH on the other hand, is a winner!!! I have gotten it 4x and it was delicious each time. It consists of a large homemade cheddar biscuit, perfectly scrambled eggs, spicy aioli sauce, with an option of applewood smoked bacon (yes please). The only gripe I would have about it is its inconsistency - sometimes they barely put any aioli on it and it seems kind of dry...When they do lay it on though - Bazing! Melt in yo' mouth crack biscuit sandwich. They have a bunch of other things on the menu that I have yet to try, but I'm going to have to wean myself off the crack sandwich first. For those of you with a sweet tooth, their sourdough toast with warm strawberry compote is pretty good. It's not too sweet, and it tastes like you just wrapped a warm fuzzy blanket around your shoulders. Comforting. Returned for lunch -- and both my friend and I were enjoying our lunches immensely, until she pulled a big hair out of her eggs. Bummer for her, I kept plugging away at my Cobb salad -- until I discovered a hair in mine as well. Neither hair could've come from either of our heads. The server was very apologetic -- we offered to pay half since we did consume half, and I think she ended up comping one of the meals which came to about that. Found this really cute little spot on Vanderbilt. You'd think on a regular Friday, they wouldn't be too full but to my surprise they were bustling and busy with lots of customers. That's always a good sign. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a super friendly guy who sat me at a table for two as I waited for my friend to join me. Water was served right away. He asked me if id like anything else and I ordered a coffee while I waited. Service was absolutely impeccable. When my friend arrived he was served with coffee moments after he sat down. We ordered a scrambled egg on toast and a smoked salmon on toast. Both were really tasty and perfect portion sizes. I do have an issue with them being cash only. Can't believe I've been reunited with my all time favorite Red Lobster cheddar biscuits. Actually more like the grown and sexy older cousin basquit. Don't forget to bring your cash, or stop at one of the many chain banks around the corner on Flatbush Ave before you come We came in on a Thursday morning, and my first impression was that this is an upscale coffee shop. I say so, because of the sheer amount of lingererers. The patrons have littl intention of leaving as the read their ipads, write their journals, or grade papers. It was pretty full around 11 am (They stop serving breakfast at 4) FYI, unless you have a big appetite, or you're sharing, order the 'half dish' if it's an option. 'Full' is just way too much for one person. The strawberry rhubarb toast is good If you could get a side of bacon, you'd be set in heaven for the day. The scrambled eggs and cheddar biscuit is good too, and I say that as an egg hater. The biscuit and bacon (if you order) makes it taste a lot less eggy. The wife ordered the full eggs, she liked it, although I wasn't a fan of the cheese option. The coffee drinks are good. I got the Australian ice coffee, and it was so good that I probably drank it straight down because I didn't want to ever not be drinking it. My wife changed her mind from coffee to cappuccino almost as last minute as one could get, and thy changed out her order with no questions asked. That was quite nice of them. Overall, it's a quaint place. It's cool to eat breakfast during the week. I shudder to imagine what it's like on the weekends. I've stopped in for coffee before and always been slightly put off by the price-to-size ratio, but never disappointed by the quality of the coffee. I recently walked by on a brunch morning and saw something that looked pretty much like my perfect breakfast. I almost tried to swipe a bite, but figured instead I'd just have to come back with my boys, Jordan S & Madhav V, because we're always looking for tasty, healthy, decently priced brunch in the area with good coffee and good atmosphere. I know, we're high maintenance. This place was an absolute ace on all counts. The coffee is just great. End of story. Yes, still slightly small, but I guess you get what you pay for. Oh, and I'm a total sucker for latte art. As far as food, we all got some form of the Full Eggs. My roommate tells me other things there are also delicious, but I just don't think I'd be able to not order that. It is literally all my favorite things to eat stacked on top of each other: fresh, hearty, sourdough-style bread, tasty but not too sharp melted cheese, fresh tomato slices and beautifully poached eggs (check out that yolk in my picture - perfect). Top it all off with the addition of avocado... oh my god. And yes, it tasted as good as I imagined. By the way, the full order is two slices of bread, the half is one, and really one is sufficient if you're not starving. Definitely enjoyed this little spot the second time around. We were able to score some seats inside right along the bar at the window (I love people watching). Even though the sun was beating down on us the whole time, the meal was perfection. The coffee was just how I like it in a big chunky mug, a little on the strong side and plenty of milk to soften the corners. I think I drank two full mugs with no problem which is unusual for me. They have some great vegetarian options and the portions are just perfect. Think lots of breakfast sandwich type items. I have never seen a more beautiful poached egg. Our friend got the muesli which I immediately though sounded boring, but when she offered to share some with me, I had to keep myself from eating all of her meal too.
