This small bakery shop has the most sweetest and cutest confectionery display, so decided to give this place a try. Macarons of all sorts of different colors and flavors fill the rolls on the display counter. Got the Pistachio and Nutella Macarons, both tasted good, and not overly sweet. Cute little bakery. Had the smorgeous and chocolate chunk cookies. My daughter enjoyed them. The owner makes the macarons but we didn't get any. I was surprised those 2 cookies came out to $13! The space inside is small, there is one table with a couple of chairs but I wouldn't come here expecting to lounge while you're partaking in treats. Good service but again, small space so if one party orders multiple espresso drinks it takes a bit for them to be made before the next in line can be helped. My friend and I were out for our monthly dinner on a recent Thursday night. We started our sampling of what this neighborhood had to offer at The Bearded Baker. We stepped into a small storefront area, that opened into the bakery area. We were greeted by what had to be the bearded baker himself. What a nice guy! Very proud of everything they've made. (There's a partner, not sure if they have a beard or not) The counter display features a gorgeous array of tempting treats. Based upon the Yelp reviews, I knew that we needed the cookie with the Rice Krispie treat inside and the chocolate butter cream bar. My friend added some gluten and nut free desserts for his family and I added a six pack of macarons for mine. He gave us a churro flavored macaron to sample and it was sublime! I've had several good macarons, this was better. It just seemed fresher, it was texturally perfect, just the right amount of resistance before melting into a burst of flavor. We had the chocolate and butter cream topped bar after our first restaurant stop, it was scrumptious! Rich chocolate, luscious butter cream, and a chewy base combined to form an upscale chocolate bar experience. After our second restaurant stop and gelato, we broke out the cookie filled with a Rice Krispie treat inside. While we were clearly not hungry by this point in the evening, this cookie still delivered! The Bearded Baker provided a great start and finish to a fun night in this neighborhood! I've visited the BB at least 4 times and only tried their macarons. I have a macaron addiction. It's a tiny corner location. I've mostly been met by two guys who I assume run the operation. I'm not sure if the shorter stout one of the two is the actual BB... but he's never as welcoming as the other. Seems a bit silent grumpy. When you're making a selling macarons you betta be happy all the F'n time! Period. I like that they switch up the flavors but I recommend they have staples that are customer favs. The size of their macarons are a bit smaller than your average, more popable. But the quality makes up for this. Pricing is comparable. They are worth visiting but don't expect the BB to do backflips to welcome you... there's not enough room. read more

Let's be honest, I've passed this bakery any number of times and always tell myself that I'll stop in. That day finally arrived, and a part of me wants to say that the anticipation was worth it. They take their time with their goods and it shows. On recommendation, I had the razzle dazzle and believe you me, I was razzled AND dazzled. Essentially a funfetti cookie, its a sugar cookie stuffed with a Rice Krispie. Excuse me? Yes, I know, I was also confused. I genuinely expected it to be quite sweet, but it wasn't and my palate was content. Apparently, they have a bit of a French influence in their style of baking-- so less sugar, but just as delicious. This is also apparent in their love of macarons, which I have yet to try. I also had a latte, because the coffee addict in me couldn't help herself-- delicious. I walked in with a list of 2 items. I left with 6. The guys couldn't have been nicer, helped me decide on a few things. The cookies are really good and creative. Seems like there may be an occasional miss but that's worth it for the hits that you wouldn't get without that creativity--the razzle dazzle for example, delicious. But the items that really wowed me were the scones. Went with sweet (triple berry) and savory (Swiss scallion). Dear god these things are good. I love scones--I'm Irish, It's in the DNA. But they can be dry crumbly affairs loaded up with the devil's candy, the raisin. The Bearded Baker scones on the other hand have just the right amount of firmness without being dry and crumbly. I'd say "moist" but that word is kinda creepy to people so let's just say "fresh." And that's because these things are indeed fresh baked. The talented bakers finished prepping the black and white cookie while I waited. There are a lot of bakeries. I suggest giving this one a shot. Let the guys guide you and help with the decisions. You have to get the Razzle Dazzle - it was literally the best cookie of my life. When I buy cookies, I usually end up only eating half and then taking the rest home for later, but this time I couldn't help but finish the whole mf. My friend and I were walking around Boerum Hill and stumbled upon this cute little store on the street corner. They had tons of macarons, but the Razzle Dazzle caught my eye. I'm really into rainbow sprinkles at the moment, so I had to try this thick af cookie. They had just finished baking a batch, so I got a fresh cookie straight out of the oven and bruh it changed my life. It was warm and soft and I had to be careful not to have it fall apart in my hands. The middle had melted marshmallow and rice krispies. I came back a second time to get a Razzle Dazzle but didn't ask for it warmed up, so it wasn't as life changing as the first time but still delicious. If you get a cookie here and want your life changed, you should ask to see if they can warm it up. read more

Who doesn't love a new spot? I'm surprised I never noticed The Bearded Baker as I walk by here all the time, but apparently it opened around Valentine's Day and I'm glad I finally got to check it out. It's a cute spot with a bunch of different offerings, ranging from cookies to macarons to scones in all sorts of unique flavors. Let me preface I went at like 6:30pm, so they were out of the things that really caught my eye - a cookie stuffed with a rice crispie treat, and a cranberry brie scone. Clearly those items are popular! I still of course wanted to try something so I went with the macarons. They have a bunch of different unique flavors, and I got a six pack (which I intended to make last a few days and then I totally ate in one sitting, dammit). The flavors I got were: yuzu, cookies and creme, rainbow cookie, rose pistachio, churro, and nutella (they're actually a little more complex than that but I can't remember). I think in order of favorite I would go: 1) Rainbow Cookie 2) Rose Pistachio and 3) Churro but frankly they were all good! The scones also caught my eye and I decided to give one a try - they were out of the cranberry brie one that really interested me, so I decided to order the ham and swiss. It was late in the day and the staff member/baker working there was SO nice that he was like - ok, you have to try the blueberry scone too, and he gave it to me for free! I didn't even realize he actually did it - he kept talking up the blueberry scone and then I was surprised to find it in the box this morning when I opened it up to have the ham & swiss for breakfast. And frankly, he was right because the blueberry scone is AWESOME. They both are. Speaking of which - the staff member was so nice! He is a baker, and he is bearded, but he is apparently not THE Bearded Baker for whom the store is named. He's as good as THE Bearded Baker to me, though. read more

They all tasted the same, like pure sugar, took one bite of each and wanted to finish them but no thank you. Some of the worse macarons i've ever tasted. Tucked away gem of a spot on the corner of 3rd and St. Mark's, the macarons and cookies here are truly delectable and creative. Scott, the owner and head baker, has clearly devoted his efforts into creating the perfect two-bite treats, and he's more than succeeded. Let the desserts speak for themselves, but also don't be shy to speak to staff. They're super warm and welcoming, and are happy to talk you through their craft. It's been four days since I've been there and I honestly have been resisting the urge to go there every single day since. I love scones and these are incredible scones. I had the blueberry, cheese and a razzle dazzle cookie. The blueberry was light with the perfect berry balance. A scone should be dense but not a chewy biscuit consistency. I took one bite and this is it. Yup this was perfect. A couple hours later I woke up and had the cheese with breakfast. I realized hours later that I was full. It did not lay in my stomach like a brick but still managed to be rich enough to keep me satisfied. Then I had the cookie. I am very good with words but all of them fail me when I think about what to say about a sugar cookie with a rice crispy treat inside. Most delicious cookie I've eaten all year. I'm still marveling at how it managed to not be a ball of doughy sugar. It was clearly a cookie, clearly a rice krispy treat yet somehow the perfect blend of both. Okay starter, you walk in, looks small but don't be fooled it packs a punch! Some of the best personalized service I've ever had. Laughed and built rapport, gave quick and clear answers to questions and sincerely seemed to love what they were doing. They have tons of vegan and gluten free options. To the food. The shmorgeous (like smore and gorgeous) was so good. Caught off guard as it's filled with all the goods and gets torched right before you are given it (toasty marshmallows) Scones are perfect with a good drink. Pops of flavor. We like the blueberry and cranberry orange best. Had a coconut chocolate one that didn't have a name but mixed 3 textures and 4 flavors that my uncultivated palette noticed... Probably had more kicking around. Had a graham cracker one that had layers and was shaped like a bar (forgot the name) I liked the flavors wanted a little crunch to it myself but loved the taste.
