Apple cider donut
Pamela K.

BY FAR one of my favorite bakeries in Brooklyn and they're vegan and gluten free!! It is nearly impossible to find delicious vegan and/or gluten free pastries anywhere, but Sixteen Mill destroys it every time! The donuts are my go-to and I've never had a variety I didn't like (as you can see from my photos)! They're soft, dense and usually frosted -- if you enjoy almond flour pastries, you'll love the texture and weight of these baddies! They have a cute takeout storefront with limited seating. If you order ahead there's a slight up charge, but it guarantees you get the pastries you want -- as some (like the apple cider donuts) sell out! Match and coffee drinks are available as well. Shoutout to Eric who is just outstanding! He makes my day every time I stop in! Do not miss a chance to visit Sixteen Mill and, be warned, they are mostly sold out of everything near closing!

This is the chocolate babka muffin and the cinnamon swirl muffin. Both were unbelievably delicious.

If you are interested in a vegan and gluten free bakery, this is it! It's a very small place with an order window and a few outdoor seats. But, the options are fantastic! They really figured out the gluten free and vegan formula for super moist and delicious food. There were about 10-12 different items to choose from. Savory and sweet baked goods. And a drink list with coffee and tea. Really creative flavor combinations.

I could not write the review fast enough! I haven't even finished eating everything but I'm so in love and I want the world to know! Stopped by here on a Saturday on the recommendation of a friend. Right now it's outdoor seating only with a pick up window - not sure if it's different in the winter. I tried the sourdough scallion scone which a friend of mine says tastes exactly like a scallion pancake. The flavor was incredible and the texture was bouncy on the inside with an incredible crunch on the outside. Because they don't use refined sugars, the yuzu blueberry donut was the perfect amount of sweet. Nothing sickly sweet but still definitely a sweet treat. Incredibly bouncy and moist without being doughy like some gluten & vegan things can be. I also tried their strawberry matcha - definitely recommend! Love that they make their own in-house oat milk and almond milk. Since they're a vegan spot, no dairy milk but tons of plant based milks and none are at an extra charge which I appreciated. I'll be coming here lots and singing their praises to all my friends.

Blueberry matcha donut

Many of their pastries and drinks are influenced by Japanese flavors. I was especially excited to try their strawberry matcha. Mostly a take and go operation, but there is some seating outside. They have their pastries on display and along with my matcha, I indulged on a matcha blueberry donut. I don't often have GF pastries but this donut was dense. Still pretty good just wasn't what I expected. I don't have matcha too often and I'm not sure if it was the addition of oatly (since they're vegan) but it was a touch chalky at first tasting. The service was so friendly and it seemed like they have a lot of regulars which was so sweet to witness. All in all if you're vegan or GF, this bakery is well worth a visit!

My order: roasted red pepper scone The Review: On one hand, this scone is so good and big and lasted me for hours. On the other hand, it costs the same as a whole loaf of bread at a staggering $9. Nonetheless, my gluten free heart wants other gluten free folks to try Sixteen Mill. At the very least, it will be an experience!

Such an amazing gem on the border of Downtown Brooklyn and Park Slope. They make their goodies gluten free as well as without refined sugar - instead they use maple sweetener. Honestly I love all of their donuts. Sixteen Mill perfected the balance of sweetness in their desserts, and I absolutely am enamored with their donut spread. I wish there was a location in Greenpoint - I see nothing but success for Sixteen Mill.

This place was super cute and small inside. Definitely a hole in the wall and I noticed them because of the sign they had sticking outside. This spot is perfect if you want to try items that are vegan or dairy free. The Tahini cake was so thick and rich. The chocolate was amazing and was the perfect amount of sweet. The pumpkin pie had a jelly like consistency which was different than expected but the crust was great . Their strawberry matcha is also very fragrant and the strawberry on the bottom was a great touch.

Cake for breakfast!

Ugh my favorite bakery in Brooklyn. My fiancé and I go all the time- I used to be vegan and now still try to avoid dairy but boy oh boy every person I've taken here has been a fan and has had zero complaints about the dairy / gluten / sugar free aspect. We love to get the tahini Carmel chocolate cake slice and iced coffees on our birthdays as a breakfast treat. The scallion scone is also fire! Cookies also yummy. The babka muffins are good but a little greasy- not enough to deter me from not getting it again tho. The donuts are always fun- love trying their new flavor combos on them! It's outside seats/ takeaway only but there's a cute outdoor park nearby or you can go by the gowanus canal for some outdoor lounge spots! (I miss their homemade nut milk- bring it back! So good!)

So many delicious pastries and bread here! This was my first time but I've been meaning to come for so long. Everything is vegan and gluten free and looks amazing. My chocolate babka muffin was delicious, and my friend's blueberry vanilla cream cheese donut also looked incredible. I'll be back!

Tiramisu donut

The tiramisu donut joins the ranks of top 10 donuts I've ever eaten. Such a great balance of flavors and good texture.

Chocolate babka

We came here on a Sunday and it was a pretty packed bakery. I got a latte and a chocolate babka muffin. The latte was good. I like how there was a bunch of alternative sweeteners like monk fruit syrup and coconut sugar. The chocolate babka muffin was really good. It was not too sweet but still had the good chocolate taste. However this bakery is a bit on the expensive side. Overall, I would came here again to try other pastries.

Stopped by here a Sunday afternoon before going thrifting and this place is good ! I order a matcha with almond milk, a chai masala carrot donut, and a matcha doughnut. Everything was delicious. I was a little surprised by the price being $27 for those three items, but it was still really good. Everyone inside was very friendly. The place is small inside, but it does have outdoor seating. This is definitely a grabbing place. I will be back for sure !

Gluten free bakery items are hard to come by , but vegan ones are nearly impossible (unless you make them yourself) here comes Sixteen Mill to fill the void. I discovered the brand when they would occasionally carry items at Orchard Grocer (they are no longer carried there but they do wholesale with a number of coffee shops in Brooklyn and Manhattan as well as Electric Beet which is not too far away). They have now opened their own little shop in Park Slope-Gowanus. They make an assortment of pastries and breads. I have tried out mostly all of their pasteries except for their brownie. The chocolate babka muffin or bread is a must! It's indescribably delicious. My second favorite item is their cakes which vary in flavors. The cakes are decadent and are not as dense as vegan cakes tend to be, they are closer to a regular cake. The donuts are also a great option they are cake style. The scones are good they not dry and crumbly like traditional scones. The cookies are soft chew style. The whoopie needs to be a new permanent item. It actually might take spot of the cakes... it is so good! My only gripe would be is that they use almond flour in almost all of their pastries. Today I stopped by on Mother's Day and felt bad that I couldn't pick up any pasteries for my mom as the only nut she happens to be allergic to is you guessed it... ALMONDS. Aside from this, I will stop by after my weekend shopping at the Co-op to get myself a treat or breakfast if I have a shift.

I got lucky and snagged the limited blueberry pie croissant on its last day. Their croissants are literally perfect. Light, airy honeycomb interior, a super flaky exterior, and a deep golden brown. I might just start making regular trips to South Slope for these pastries! Their chef Claudio was so friendly! He even offered to help us cut the pastries in half, which is how we got those flawless cross sections. *Blueberry Pie Croissant $11.5 The croissant was stuffed with blueberry jam and whipped vanilla cream! You could tell the jam was homemade with so many real blueberry bits, and they didn't hold back on it! The oat streusel on top was so good I was picking up every last crumb off the plate lol. * Kouign Amann $5.5 What really blew me away was their kouign amann... the outside is crunchy, sticky, and coated with a generous sprinkle of sugar. It's super buttery and pulls apart perfectly with gorgeous honeycomb layers. *Ham and Gruyere Croissant $8 I usually go for savory pastries, so this one's a solid pick especially for breakfast. You walk in and it smells like butter, sugar, and real baking, not artificial sweetness. Now the pastries. The croissants are the star for a reason. Perfectly laminated, flaky on the outside, soft and rich on the inside. Not greasy, not dry, and not overly sweet. Just balanced and thoughtful. You can tell these are made by people who care deeply about technique and quality. I tried a few different items and everything felt intentional. Nothing felt mass produced or created just for social media. This is the kind of bakery where you slow down, sit with your coffee, and actually enjoy what you are eating instead of rushing out the door. Yes, there can be a line during busy hours, but that comes with places that do things right. The staff is efficient and friendly, and even when it is crowded, the energy stays relaxed and welcoming. I hosted a party in our apartment for about 85 people and the amount of food I ordered (7 platters- beef sliders, fried chicken sliders, coconut curry chicken skewers, beef skewers, mango jerk chicken empanadas, spinach & cheese empanadas, veggie spring rolls) was more than enough. My guests all were coming up to me all night saying how great the food was! I also hired a waiter (Rustum) through Bites BK who was a lifesaver. As for the food, I tend to stay away from black and white cookies outside of Jewish bakeries as they're often disappointing, but these are right on par! Soft cookie, solid, but soft icing. Exactly like a Jewish bakery. The rainbow cookies have spongy cake and the right amount of jelly between layers. The chocolate isn't waxy as often happens in refrigerator cases. The pignoli cookies are another winner, although I preferred the pignoli free version, the amaretti. Chewy on the inside, a little crunch on the outside, just like they should be. And a light dusting of powdered sugar. Jam cookies and crystal sugar sprinkled cookies were similarly delicious. Apple turnover was full of apple and yummy filling, without tasting fake or preserved. Nothing at this place lasts long enough to need to be preserved! The muffins are inventive. I don't even think I covered everything... I got way too much and yet not enough.
