Sometimes you just need a croissant. After scoping out Almondine Bakery's cases, I purchased the chocolate croissant which was $5.35. This was a good value since the last chocolate croissant I ate in the city was about $7. But Almondine's version wasn't quite as flaky as I'd hoped and reminded me of a sweet bun instead. The chocolate portion was very delicious however. In addition to the items you're used to seeing at a French bakery, there was Baked Alaska which was a unique offering. Regarding cookies, only chocolate walnut and oatmeal raisin were available. The cushioned tan seats were looking worse for wear and had some mysterious stains on them. There were a few tables with chairs and outside, a bench. Some paintings inside added a classy art gallery feel. read more

Almondine is a quaint little shop, with some solid pastries, and okay coffee. The space is quite tight, and there isn't much seating, but luckily the surrounding area is a nice neighborhood to walk around if you'd rather do that. The staff were friendly enough. This is a cute coffee shop located in Dumbo, Brooklyn. It is right by the water too. This place you need to go early especially on weekends. It is a small place but when you walk in you can smell the fresh bread and pastries. I only got an iced latte. I wish it tasted better though. Staff were nice here. Cute French bakery near DUMBO. Came here with my boyfriend for a quick snack and got a latte, chocolate almond croissant, and Ferrero rocher. They have limited seating indoors but we nabbed a spot at a table. Public restroom is available. Credit cards accepted. The croissant was incredibly flaky and buttery, and the ferrero rocher was less sweet than the commercial kind, but more delicately smooth. This is our 8th year ordering a cake from Almondine and each and every year I have to say it gets better and better. We started with our son's baby shower and each year order a cake for his birthday. I come up with a theme and Herve delivers. He is now 7. Not only is it gorgeous it's absolutely delicious. This might be the best bakery in NYC - I'm writing a review as I just realized I have been coming here for 20 years and the quality and taste of the cakes and pastries are still incredible. Hervé the baker is French and it shows... the ingredients - cream, chocolate, fruits - are always top, very fresh and nothing is too sweet. My favorites are still the chocolate passion and the lemon raspberry cakes; my husband loves the French baguettes and my son the pain au chocolat or croissants. This was an unexpected stop in our trip to Brooklyn, but my friend and I are so glad we went. We woke up pretty late and had a very late reservation to another spot in Brooklyn, so we were starving. After grabbing a very necessary coffee, we decided to see what else was near to grab a light bite. Almondine Bakery caught our eye. We knew we had made the right choice when there was a line almost out the door. Initially, we were deciding among pastries, but their sandwiches caught out eye. It was definitely the right choice. Each bite was so delicious, and the butter + sauce were cherries on top. It actually ended up making us really full despite the fact that we split one sandwich. I would definitely come back again. This trip took a few times because Almondine is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. But, I managed to stop by on a rainy Thursday afternoon. The bakery is pretty small and located right next to the Time Out Market in Dumbo, but it has a really quaint, neighborhood feel. There are a few tables and a bench outside with piles and piles of pastries and fresh bread put out behind the counter. Unfortunately, I arrived too late for their famed almond croissant but I did manage to get a plain ($4.60) and a chocolate ($5.10). I thought the croissants were quite soft and had lovely airy pockets but not much butter flavor. The pain au chocolat was very lovely and chocolatey but knowing L'Appartement 4F is only a 15 min walk away, I think I would rather head over there. This is not to say Almondine isn't great, but I do think as far as pain au chocolat go, it's not their strength. Yum! Supreme croissants--especially the butter, almond, and chocolate almond--are next level. The pastries and beautiful desserts are always a treat, but I'm especially a sucker for the beignets. I truly think this is one of my favorite bakeries/cafes in the world. I love that the goodies are baked on-site and even more so that they serve the delicious La Colombe coffee at this establishment. It is quite small on the inside of the bakery but there is enough space for a handful of folks to sit. My favorite items are the almond croissant and the desserts. My friends and I ordered the lemon/raspberry/pistachio entremet cake, the berry éclair, and the chocolate croissant. Their desserts are so pretty and high quality. The portions are much larger than your average French bakery so you're definitely getting your money's worth. Also, their bakery items are always fresh and not cloyingly sweet. I definitely preferred the berry éclair the most since it's light and the choux pastry was perfect. The staff are always so nice. I usually come here for their decadent almond croissants, they usually sell out earlier in the day so if you want to snag one you have to be an early bird - like before 9am type of early. I have also tried their quiche, different types of sandwiches, croque monsieur, and a number of pastries. Almondine is a classic French bakery that isn't pretentious and surprisingly their coffee is well priced. One of my favorite sandwiches is the Mortadella, the bread is epic! I truly enjoy Alamodine's although I don't know what some of the treats are called I use the "point to order method" "can I get one of these, thank you". This is the type of place that you're lucky to find, excellent service & everything is done with pride & care. One of the best croissants in NYC! I made a very quick stop to this bakery and had one of the best croissants I've ever tried in the city. I stopped by Almondine Bakery in hopes of acquiring one of their acclaimed almond croissants. I should have known that by 4PM on a Sunday, they would be all sold out. We settled for a slice of cheesecake and flan ($5.60 each). Although not what we had originally anticipated, we loved both of these pastries. The cheesecake is possibly one of the best I've ever had. Not usually cheesecake fan because of how heavy and cloying they can be, I loved how light and airy Almondine Bakery's was. It was like eating a lightly sweet cloud. The flan had beautiful caramelization on top. Like the cheesecake, it was not too sweet and wonderfully light. I will have to return to try their almond croissant. I was very whelmed by the eponymous almond croissant here. We got here around 9:30 AM, which happened to be early enough to snag an almond croissant, which allegedly sell out. This review of two pastries, something that pretended to be a large pistachio macaroon and another that was a large raspberry macaroon. The macaroon components of both were dense, chewy, and devoid of flavor other than sweetness. The pistachio did not taste of pistachio. The raspberry did not taste of any fruit at all. Just food coloring from what I could tell. What was supposed to be pistachio cream also lacked any distinctive flavor and had a texture that led me to think it was colored whipped Crisco. The filling for the raspberry thingy was a dense, slick, sorta kinda buttercream, but was it butter based or was it again Crisco? I'm not sure. Between the two the prize goes to the raspberry item because it at least had lots of real raspberries. One on done on this place. read more

This bakery has high-quality pastries and desserts that can make anyone cheats on their diets (me). I am not a huge fan of sweets but every time I'm at this bakery I end up leaving with at least two or three different kinds of desserts in my hand. You can easily spend $50.00 at this place because the stuff is pretty pricey, however the quality is worth it. My favorite things here are the Tiramisu, flan, Quiche, and the coffee macaroons. The Tiramisus is absolutely delicious, not too sweet just the way I like it. The one thing I dislike about this bakery are the services. I have been here a few times and was served by multiple staffs, everyone has the same cold and distant vibe. I'm not expecting a conversation here but at least smile or have some energy in your voice. They're not rude but they're not friendly or helpful. Like when I asked about a new item I see on the shelf, the staff didn't seem like she wants to explain about it. She just wants me to get what I wanted and get out of there. FYI Almondine will be closed from 9/1-9/15 and will reopen 9/16! Highly recommend the blueberry muffin. I'll have to go back and ask them what's in it because it tastes like a combination of blueberry and tea?? Delicious. Great almond croissant if you like the "flat type" like I do instead of an overly inflated but crunchy/flaky type. Latte was so-so, but not burnt. Will definitely depend on the barista. There was very little wait on Sunday morning at 8:30AM, so that's a bonus! They don't allow dogs in. Go here in the morning for their freshest batches of croissants, chocolate croissants, and almond-chocolate croissants. If morning is too early for you, go in the afternoon during the week for their lunch special that is such a great deal: half a sandwich, a soup, a salad and a huge cookie for around $13, $14.
