Any bakery serving cardamom buns will have my attention, so I've been trying to make it to Ferrane since they opened. While I walked in for a cardamom bun, they had a chalkboard advertising their "cardnilla" soft serve so I started with an order of that. The soft serve itself had the right texture and was super cute, but the cardamom flavor was too light for my palate, which wants more in-your-face flavor. The cardamom bun itself wasn't bad. I think it was a touch dry, especially compared to the super moist and buttery ones I've had elsewhere. Not bad though, and I'd rank them about mid-tier when it comes to the city's vast array of cardamom bun options. Great ambiance and nice seating areas. Quiche was super delicious. Crust was amazing. Wish they could've plated this nicer and warmed it up stay. Since it was cold the quiche filling was separated from the crust and the wood utensil made it super hard to eat this. The cinnamon bun was good and I liked the strong cardamom flavor. The princess cake from this new Swedish bakery in Brooklyn Heights is probably my favorite dessert of 2025 so far. If anyone remembers, IKEA used to serve princess cakes in their cafeteria, but they discontinued the cakes years ago. That's why I was overjoyed to discover this new spot offering this classic swedish dessert, alongside other baked goods like cardamom buns. ＊Cardamom Bun $6 ＊Chocolate Coconut Bun $6 The cardamom bun is aromatic with distinct cardamom warmth. Texture wise, it is soft and lightly glazed, though flatter in shape compared to the ones I've had elsewhere. The chocolate coconut bun is not too sweet, possibly made with dark cocoa? They also have cinnamon buns but I didn't get them this time.  ＊Princess Cake $9.5 *** Unlike the traditional princess cake, which is served in a green marzipan dome, Ferrane's version is more like a "tiramisu", presented in a silver tall cup. It's layered with vanilla sponge cake, raspberry jam, and whipped cream, topped with a thin sheet of green marzipan. It is tart, fluffy, and decadent. I didn't even want to share! Finally got to try the cardamom bun and princess cake here! I've always wanted to try princess cake but, could never justify buying a full size one. This one is very small and cute! I tried the matcha princess cake and it was light, moist and had a great matcha flavor. The cardamom bun had a great black cardamom flavor and wasn't too sweet or dry. A great alternative when some of the other bakeries in the area have long lines. read more

We came in the early afternoon on our way to take the 2 train into Manhattan. It is conveniently on the same block. The interior was spacious and built in the classic clean minimalist Swedish architectural style. We got a few baked goods. I do recommend that they offer boxes for when there's a big order as opposed to putting each pastry in a separate bag. We got the last cardamom bun. The style was different from the La Cabra one. I think I prefer the La Cabra one more. The Swedish Cinnamon buns were very good. We thought their croissants were very well done as well! We tried the chocolate, original and almond ones! Stopped by the long awaited Ferrane today, which was pretty crowded for a rainy morning. It's located right around the corner from the Clark St (2/3) station, within walking distance of an equally famous bakery on nearby Montague. Ferrane is currently in their soft opening, so the menu is limited to pastries like cardamom and cinnamon buns for now, but I cannot wait to see what is in store. I had the pleasure of trying their semla at their popup a few months ago so I really hope that will return to the menu soon, or even savory options. The space is gorgeous, with a window to the other side, where you can watch bakers hard at work while sipping coffee, and tables bathed in warm, cozy lighting. I ordered the cardamom bun ($6) which was thinner and flatter than the other buns I've tried thus far at Smør and La Cabra, but I really loved this choice because it ended up being less dense and doughy overall. Ferrane's version felt larger and more decadent because of the flatter side, and was absolutely drenched in syrup. With flecks of crushed cardamom cradled in between all those mesmerizing swirls, I would definitely say it won me over and has toppled Fabrique in becoming my favorite cardamom bun in the city. I will definitely return soon to try their chocolate coconut buns and rye bread! read more

My friends ordered a whole princess cake for me for a surprise baby shower and I say this without hesitation: this is the best princess cake in NYC. And I'm serious, I go out of my way to get princess cake any chance I can. Maybe it's a bigger thing in the West Coast, but princess cake makes me think of birthdays and weddings where here in NYC, it's a trek to find a good slice! Ferrane is far better than Sant Ambroues' princess cake, with a lighter cream, better jam, and fresher marzipan. I mean it's probably fresher just because the Ferrane princess cake is made to order. The pastries were delicious, got a cinnamon bun, almond chocolate croissant and their lox toast. I wasn't a huge fan of the bread on the lox toast, super grainy, but I loved both pasties. Stopped in around 4pm to get a bite. My friend and I shared the smorrebröd (salmon on seed bread with dill cream cheese and capers) and the cardamom bun. Disappointingly, they have no ability to warm up pastries. Still, both items were good. The savory bread had a great texture and the cream cheese and salmon ratios were solid, although it definitely felt overpriced at $12.50, for what ultimately was maybe a total of 5 or 6 bites. The cardamom bun wasn't too sweet and had a nice flavor and texture. On par with other pastry costs at $6. Water available. Seating is okay; some tables, some counters, some couches. Ferrane is a very modern bakery with some unique spread. I enjoyed their cardamom buns and the gingerbread cake. The cardamom buns tasted wonderful but I felt they were a little dense. This place rocks. The staff is so so nice, the music is great, the treats are solid, and although pretty expensive, the coffee is actually better than coffee from anywhere else in the neighborhood. Really wanted to love this bakery as it's right in my neighborhood but they don't have AC and they don't have a bathroom for customers! It means it isn't a comfortable place to sit and have coffee and a treat because it's super hot AND there's nowhere to pee. Also I'm 7 months pregnant so this is an absolute deal breaker for me. To make matters worse, staff was incredibly rude when I asked them about the bathroom. If you or anyone you know has ever been pregnant you know it's extremely uncomfortable and you have to pee every 30 min. Do better, Ferrane. read more
