Green tea mochi with green bean paste inside--so good!
    Kathleen S.

Competition in the Chinese bakery market is stiff. The look and goods all seem similar, so how to distinguish between the bad, mediocre, and the good? I've been going to Chinese bakeries my whole life. While I haven't sampled everything at this establishment, I can say that Into-the-stratosphere-and-beyond-amazing are the mochi ball with green bean paste. The sticky rice is so fresh, soft, gooey, and smooth in consistency. To the extent that sticky rice can "melt," this nearly does it. The green bean paste in the middle is perfectly sweet and rich, without being overwhelming. The white mochi with crushed peanuts is good--same spectacular sticky rice--but with a hint of salty and sweet with the nuts. The other flavor offering is mango, which I have yet to try. These soft yet hefty babies are $1.25 each. The coconut pastry and red bean-swirled bun are also good, though less distinguished as the mochi balls. The date cake (nian gao) typically eaten during Chinese New Year was also solid. Prices are similar to other bakeries, but quality really stands out. There is another Dragon Bay bakery about two streets down around 56th Street on 7th Ave. Avoid this one. Similar prices and offerings, but not as fresh. You'll notice fewer patrons there--a sign of less popularity--and the scary B NYC Department of Health rating.

10" sponge cake filled with pineapples. .

This is my go to place for Chinese chiffon cake. I usually get it filled with all pineapple. I've had some of their baked goods but not many. Trying to watch the waistline...lol. The workers are nice. If I would need any baked goods or coffee from 8th ave, I would go to this store only, seeing that along 8th avenue, it's filled with Chinese bakeries.

Ah!!!...the smell of delicious Chinese breads and desserts. I love that smell every time I walk into one. Dragon Bay Bakery is a chain bakery all over 8th avenue. Some people say its the best bakery in 8th avenue. I have to say it is a good bakery. Many breads, desserts, and drinks to choose from the menu. Pick anything that your heart chooses. Best of all.. it is CHEAP!!! Heart decided I wanted: 1. A small cup of hot milk tea. Good balance of milk and tea. Very satisfying drink to warm yourself. 2. A Fried Fish Fillet Bun. Maybe an ordinary fish fillet bun, but it sure is a tasty one. 3. A Char Sui Bun. Delicious roast pork. The sauce was great. 4. 2 Egg Tarts. The crust was soft and flaky. The custard was very smooth and silky. Great!!! Add that all up...$4.25. Barely broke the bank. Made my tummy all happy.

My husband and I decided to explore the neighborhood after visiting a friend at Maimonides Hospital last Saturday. We walked several blocks and we wanted to try some of the local / authentic foods. After passing a few bakeries we finally decided to enter Dragon Bay Bakery. Their metallic park-bench like seating was filled with happy patrons when we took our seats. We tried a pork bun, a sweet bun with a pineapple like filling, a papaya drink and a coffee. All four were delicious and very fresh. The coffee was made very well without me making any specifications at all. The papaya drink was refreshing, though it took some time to get use to the gummy bear like berries at the bottom. Both buns were great! It was also cool sitting along side of strangers enjoying their foods, too. I like the family style seating. This is the first Chinese Bakery experience I have ever had and it was lovely. I would love to come back here and try more stuff. The staff were also very friendly and helpful to us when we were the only Latinos there. I really like the place.

Stopped here for a snack and drink on a hot summer afternoon. Very glad that I did! I got a Vietnamese cold tea that was sweet, smooth, and very refreshing in the heat. I splurged and got a huge red bean pastry as well. The crust was buttery and flaky, and the red bean paste was addicting. Very cheap overall for a filling meal -$3.75. Will definitely be back to try more of their pastries and drinks!

Ok so this is the kind of flakiness and sponginess and crust I'm talking about ! Nice !

Bought the 3D bear cake. Yuck; coffee flavored cream. NOT FOR KIDS!!

Ordered $188 bday cake for my daughter's 7 old birthday party. It is 3D bear cake. The cake is covered with coffee cream. Are you losing mind? put coffee cream on the child's cake??!!

I do like some of the desserts here

I just lovegoing there to get my favorite pastries that was added recently. The coconut bun or lemon jam bun. I also love their tea.

It is worst fired rice ball stuffed with pork I had ever had. Inside is pure pork fat and sprinkle dry little shrimp grrrr....!

The PORK BUNS are awesome. They are sweet and flaky on the outside. There is plenty of pork on the inside and overall taste great.

I stop by this bakery everday. It is cheap and good. The buns are warm during the morning and then around 3 in the afternoon.

First time coming in person (I have been spoiled and a fantastic coworker would bring in different…read moretreats from here on occasion). The space is relatively small, with a line inside and outside and a few tables outside. The length of the line and wait time varies based on the time of day and if you go on a weekday vs weekend. Go early if you don't want them to sell out of anything or purposely go a little later if you want one of their lunch sandwiches on focaccia. I have had the tomato and garlic focaccia twice now and each time it has been exceptional. Minor critique, the slices of garlic could be a bit smaller. I also had the shakshuka focaccia which is divine and I would absolutely recommend both. I need to come back to try their sandwiches as well. I am not a sweets person, but everyone I know loves their pastries. Getting someone a gif tcard here makes for a great gift.

Dropped by Radio Bakery on the Tuesday morning after Memorial Day and the lines weren't too crazy…read more I got there in time to grab some breakfast items and baked goods, and then waited at a table outside for the lunch items to get set out around 11AM. I'm usually more of a savory girlie but all the sweet items we tried were great, especially the rhubarb croissant and the earl grey morning bun. I really enjoyed the focaccia sandwiches (smoked salmon and pea/mint/feta were elite) and the artichoke green garlic slice. The flavor of the sesame stirato was excellent but the bread itself was a tad too chewy for the filling we got with it (tuna salad), so that style probably works better with the jambon beurre. Will definitely be on the rotation whenever I'm in the city -- would love to try some of their seasonal/limited edition items one day, though not sure if I have it in me to brave the lines that can form on the weekends, lol! We'll see :)

Radio Bakery... is perfection. I completely understand the line…read more I first ordered the heirloom tomato & feta sandwich, which was unbelievable. It is so clear that they use incredibly high-quality ingredients and carefully curate each component, which is exactly why everything comes together in such an elevated way. The tomatoes reminded me of the ones I grew in my garden during California summers as a teenager. Perfectly salted, layered over soft, not-too-tart feta. The focaccia was made with beautiful olive oil and, while a bit chewier than I usually prefer, gave the sandwich a satisfying bite. I had to close my eyes while eating it just to savor it. The chocolate cherry almond croissant... wow. Such a creative combination, and it did not disappoint. Soft, buttery, and filled with a sour cherry compote that reminded me of a cherry cordial from a box of chocolates. 5/5. Hainsley, who helped me, was exceptionally lovely. Everyone even in line was very nice, the vibes were awesome. I'll definitely be back to try the spicy tofu sandwich and the heirloom tomato tart!

I went to Radio Bakery twice in a week recently and I am not mad about it…read more Loves: + The croissants are so good. Had the blueberry & corn ($9) and seasonal heirloom tomato ($8) and enjoyed them both. + My personal faves are the cheesy pretzel bearclaw ($6.50) and the shakshuka focaccia slice ($9) + Staff is quick and efficient and the long line outside is well organized The reality with Radio at both locations is there will be a wait. Line moves relatively fast but the slowdown is people deciding what to get, so I recommend looking at the menu in advance. Note about food drops: most items drop at 7:30am when they open, but late morning focaccia (eg. tomato & garlic) drop at 10am and lunch sandwiches drop at 11am!
