A shade of its former self. I hate to leave this review but this incarnation of Java bakery is NOTHING like the old java city that used to be here. I went on the opening Saturday and the food was OK, the service was slow, but I figured, that's OK it's their opening weekend. I went about a month later and got a breakfast sandwich on my way to work, it was once again OK, and the service was slow (WAY too slow to wait in the morning for my sandwich on the go, it took about 15 minutes and they weren't busy at all). So I give it one more try after they have been open now for 6-7 months and the service was incredibly slow, I believe they lost our order as we were sitting outside because people who came 15 minutes after us got their food about 10 min after they came and the person who brought their food confirmed with us what we had even though there was the table. Umber clearly displayed that they could have looked up the order. That makes 3 separate times that they have been incredibly slow. I figure after 6-7 months this would be ironed out but it's just simply unacceptable and there is no way it's just coincidental, because it took the people after us a long time to get what should have taken 3-5 minutes tops at any other place. I really want this place to be as good or even close to what it used to be when it was java city but it's not and I don't believe that it ever will be. Sadly I probably won't be giving it another try. read more

The coffees were amazing, fresh made pastries, and breakfast sandwiches were AWESOME! I would check this place out. For three people it was MORE than reasonably priced, especially considering the great location! Chai Tea Latte was the way to go there - almost ordered a second one to-go! Bacon egg and cheese on a bagel was awesome but the cinnamon roll really sealed the deal. Will be back! read more

Great food and quick service. There's a line on Sundays, but the service here is exceptional. All the locals go here for coffee. They remember you by name and they are always willing to help you out. Coffee is also very good here. read more

So stoked my favorite coffee place is back. It used to be here then changed to a waffle place for a bit then came back to java. (Although it was nicely remodeled for the waffle place). Adorable little café in the Bayside shopping center with beautiful inside seating as well as outdoor patio seating. I just wanted to grab a quick bite and an iced tea while I was waiting to meet up with my mom, and a beautiful regular at the café, Diane, ended up buying my scone and iced tea for me! Thanks again, Diane! The blueberry scone (heated) and iced tea were both delicious! Next time I'm back I'll definitely want to try out one of their sandwiches... I ordered breakfast to surprise my fiancé on Valentines!! I ordered from Postmates and added sandwiches for later ! When my order arrived it was just the sandwiches with nothing else ! Breakfast missing. Postmates is impossible to call or text right away to rectify a bad situation. We are regulars at Java! I called them direct and the lovely lady who took my call personally drove our breakfast over! Service is spectacular. The food is yummy and I can't be more thankful to her! I would give more stars! Big big fan of Java. Their iced mocha is to die for, coffee is always fresh, croissants are delicious and the staff are super friendly and courteous. One of the best coffee spots around where you can always rest assured that you'll be in the best of hands with the best coffees and pastries. We are TOTALLY thrilled to see the return of the Java Bakery Cafe ... not the same but new and improved. I recently hosted a fundraising gathering with over 100 people ... and worked with Gulay Senbay (CEO) and her husband to make sure they were prepared for the large number of guests. They couldn't have been more responsive and supportive, totally prepared with plenty of food and drinks and staffing. The line moved so quickly and everyone with thrilled with their food and service with sincere smiles. They also have several gluten-free offerings and the best coffee, indoor and outdoor seating and a very friendly atmosphere. We will be back again and again, with great appreciation!!! read more

This place makes me feel like I'm at a cafe in France. We got the Chicken Brie Panini and the Spicy Thai Wrap. Both were really light, refreshing and tasted really good. We also tried the croissant and brownie. The croissant especially gave me that French patisserie feeling. If you go there you should try the Everything Bagel with Lox and the Chipotle Chicken Panini is to die for. There is a really nice and clean outdoor patio. This place is a real bummer. Located in such an amazing shopping center in Newport but every time I've tried it has been disappointing. The folks behind the counter never really engage in genuine conversation, they just want to take your order and have you leave. Recently I did a to-go order of their California bagel sandwich on their standard plain bagel. Of course by the time I got to work and opened the bag with my bagel, it was the wrong order completely. This is the 3rd time I've given this place a try and I'm pretty sure it will be my last. It's not just about the food people! Excellent in food quality and service. We came at lunch and ordered sandwiches. It took a bit for them to arrive. When we received them, we found out why. BLT had piping hot bacon. Sooo happy I found this place! My boyfriend and I were looking for a breakfast place to try out and decided on this place because I've heard good things about it. My girlfriends had been mentioning that they have delicious coffee so I had to! I ordered a lox and bagel sandwich and my boyfriend ordered their sunrise bagel on a cheese bagel. Let's just say both of these options were amazing! These bagels are unlike any other I've tried. They're soft and don't feel chewy like some store bought bagels. I've now been here three times in one week! Lol I'd also like to mention their staff is super pleasant. On another visit I stopped by before work at 7 am and was greet by Johanna. Only issue I have is the Spanish female workers think I'm stupid and don't catch on to their rudeness lol ...and I do I'm mixed so I know when they are talking under their breathe or being judgmental. If you want to wait 30 minutes for 2 hot chocolates and a coffee when there is barley anyone in the place then this is the place for you. Hot chocolate and my coffees were like warm at most. I mostly watched the staff scramble back and forth like a chicken with their head cut off.
