Java Bakery is one of our favorite lunch spots when visiting Newport from Arizona. The salads and sandwiches are always fresh and delicious, and the coffees are consistently excellent. The staff is friendly, attentive, and truly makes you feel welcome every time. We especially love Gulay and her team. They always take great care of us and help us find the perfect lunch options. It is clear they take pride in what they do. The location near Balboa Island makes it even better. It is such a perfect, relaxing place to grab a bite. I got a house special jalapeño cheese bagel sandwich which was good. I also got a cinnamon roll latte less sweet. Also very good. I tried my family's tuna sandwich which was . Parking is always easy, the employees are always really nice and my food and coffees have been great. My fave is their Caesar salad but ordered as a wrap, and it is in my top rankings of all Caesar wraps. I get it every single time I'm home! Their baked goods always look fantastic too. read more

Good classic breakfast spot with solid drip coffee. Ordered the breakfast burrito and a lox bagel and both were tasty in their own right. Breakfast burrito is more of a scrambled eggs wrapped in a tortilla but I'm not necessarily mad at it. Lox bagel came stacked high with tomatoes and cucumber. Wish the bagel was a little more toasted, but again just being nit-picky. Seating is mostly outdooors and the staff is non intrusive and gets the food out quickly. read more

Took 35 minutes to bring our food out. Arrived before lunch on a Sunday, 3 or 4 other customers, not busy. I went in 2 times to ask, the first time the manager said they're working on a big carryout order, so you'll have to wait. A simple "sorry" would have been much better. Several other customers got their food before us, and when it finally arrived, nothing worse than a cold egg and cheese sandwich. They had forgotten our order in the kitchen. The server brought out some muffins in a brown paper bag as some sort of apology. Our second choice of venue (Crockers) is always better, just harder to find parking. read more

I'm kind of shocked with the great reviews because both times I've eaten here the food was less than mediocre. I ate here a few months ago for breakfast, and I recall not being impressed with the breakfast sandwiches we had. The coffee was good, although my latte was sweeter than I prefer. Came back today to give it another chance since it's in the neighborhood and they have a variety of items to choose from. Ended up with two sandwiches and an iced latte. The sandwiches are mediocre at best. The sourdough bread doesn't taste fresh, and the side salad looks like wilted bag salad. All of this for $41. Next time I'll head to pavilions and buy sandwich stuff for half the price. Service was fine, and the pastries look good. read more

This is the place to be ... leisurely breakfast, coffee to go and meeting friends. Dropped in on a Saturday morning and the place was packed with a hustle and bustle, even hearing Happy Birthday being sung to a seasoned (read senior) guest. 30 minutes later it cleared out. Almond croissant was huge and had a nice crisp. Oatmeal was creamy. It was accompanied by sugar in the raw it seemed instead of brown sugar. Inside seating is limited but the patio has lots of tables in the shade or with umbrellas. Enjoy! read more

Horrible catering experience! Paid up the nose for bagels for a business meeting (I think it was $4 per bagel). I asked for a variety and when they got delivered, I received 50% plain, 25% cinnamon raisin, and 25% jalapeño cheese. They were hard as rocks, and I'm almost positive we received say old leftovers. The delivery was late, and I didn't receive the butter and jelly I was promised. The delivery person was unapologetic and seemed totally clueless. They had to go get the butter and jelly and come back. Not that it mattered because no one ate the bagels anyway. Will be going to Shirley's instead from now on. Way more reliable! read more

Years ago when I was a college student (which was almost 2 decades ago), I used to go to their Irvine location. I loved their lattes and baked goods. I was surprised that they moved to Newport Beach, but it was good for me and my husband since our hotel was close by. We got here pretty early on a Sunday morning so parking wasn't too bad. The drinks and bakery items were still as good as I remembered! We would definitely go back if we are ever in Newport again! read more

5 star food: Large portions. The chicken wrap, sandwich & salads were all fresh. All 4 items we ordered were yummy. We especially liked the cobb & apple walnut salad. The chicken wrap was filled with large pieces of chicken meat. 5 star location & seating. Cute ambiance with some indoor seating. Plenty of outdoor seating with umbrellas at tables. 3 star service today: they bundled 2 separate meal orders on one table number. While I was in the restroom my friends meal was delivered, our number was taken off the table & after 10 min I never got mine. My other friends all received their meals pretty quickly after ordering. I had to go in & ask for my salad so I think they forgot mine. Hey things like this happen & they still deserve a 5 star review. Good coffee and well put tasty whole wheat bagel sandwiches! The Belgian waffles wowed our kiddo ! The service was fast even though there was a constant drip of people. The staff is super nice and pays attention to customers even when the place is busy. They wowed our kid by surprising him with a bowl of vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup! Stopped by this place for a coffee & breakfast. Ended up ordering the cold brew with oat milk along with the "house special" breakfast bagel on a croissant. To be honest, it was great! Only thing I could say is that the prices were a bit steep for what I ended up getting-- Sausage, egg & cheese sandwich for $8. It's definitely a cute spot with some great food options, and the coffee is amazing, but the breakfast sandwich quality is something you could find anywhere else for around half the price. Everytime I come here, the service is great. I forget who, either Johanna or Isabel or the guy; One always recognizes me and they're friendly. Anyways, the food is good, the baked goods are good, overall great a little pricey but again it is Newport Beach. Good place to just relax and enjoy a baked good and coffee drink. Since our office is nearby we sometimes have meetings there too. read more

The lady who helped me - dark hair, really overly colorful eye makeup, and tattoos - processed the transaction but handed me the card without a receipt. When I asked for one, she spent a moment at the screen and then told me she couldn't print it because she had already closed out my tab. I was confused why 1) she didn't give me a receipt in the first place, then 2) she decided that was the only solution - to tell me it could not be done. After I asked her to find a solution as I needed a copy of the receipt, she finally asked her colleague beside her, who pointed her to the right place, and, voila, the receipt was printed. Leading with "I can't" is never the right customer service instinct, especially for something as basic as a receipt. I also tried to buy the butter they import from France. I stood at the case for several minutes with no acknowledgment. I finally walked over to the nearest employee (her name was Lucy) who was finishing up with a customer at the register right next to the butter section. I politely asked if she could help me when she was free. She looked at me, nodded, and said she would. Then proceeded to assist every customer who lined up behind that original customer without once glancing back in my direction. In fact, I had enough time to walk to the bakery, go through the entire gift card situation as mentioned above, and return to the butter section, and Lucy still hadn't looked over. I left without the butter. Moulin used to have fantastic service. I don't know where those regulars went, but two strikes in one visit, with two different employees, is hard to brush off.

After I asked her to find a solution as I needed a copy of the receipt, she finally asked her colleague beside her, who pointed her to the right place, and, voila, the receipt was printed. Leading with "I can't" is never the right customer service instinct, especially for something as basic as a receipt. I also tried to buy the butter they import from France. I stood at the case for several minutes with no acknowledgment. I finally walked over to the nearest employee (her name was Lucy) who was finishing up with a customer at the register right next to the butter section. I politely asked if she could help me when she was free. She looked at me, nodded, and said she would. Then proceeded to assist every customer who lined up behind that original customer without once glancing back in my direction. In fact, I had enough time to walk to the bakery, go through the entire gift card situation as mentioned above, and return to the butter section, and Lucy still hadn't looked over. I left without the butter. Moulin used to have fantastic service. I don't know where those regulars went, but two strikes in one visit, with two different employees, is hard to brush off.

Was driving on Bayside Dr and saw their "Now Open" signs so I decided to stop by at check it out. The store is beautifully designed and looks very elegant and pretty. They only serve organic coffee and espresso and it tastes AMAZING. Definitely better than my usual Starbucks beverage. They also have a huge variety of things to eat such as sandwiches, wraps, paninis, salads and also breakfast. They have an amazing breakfast burrito that I tried and it was huge and delicious. They also have scrambled eggs and bacon and all sorts of breakfast. The person in front of me got a breakfast bagel and it looked amazing as well. Wanted to try out a new local coffee shop and found this place with great reviews! The parking is phenomenal, literally endless spots right in front of the coffee shop! The location is great as it is right by the beach and balboa island. I got the scrambled eggs with white toast that was perfectly cooked and hit the spot. Also had to try the pumpkin spice muffin that was absolutely incredible along with the hot chocolate and granola parfait. There are endless options for breakfast and lunch and don't even get me started on the pastry options! The staff is supper nice and they get your coffee just perfect vs starbucks you have to tell them so many times leave room for cream and still. My favorite and a must have is the turkey pesto sandwich that i usually order on a bagel. I am so glad they are back since they closed for a few weeks.
