Asada tacos
Alison

This place is delicious and is one of our family favorites. My sister had her wedding reception here, and ever since then it has been a place we always love going back to. Their asada tacos are the best I've ever had and my personal favorite. The employees are nice and we love sitting out on the patio and enjoying our meal. Lots of great meals and memories here!

Chicken taquitos

Finally a place that does taquitos the right way! We were recommended this joint by the bellman at our hotel and it did not disappoint. It's tucked away in the neighborhood of balboa on the same street where the ferry is located. Albeit , it was warm inside the restaurant so we opted outside where it felt cooler. I had been searching for delicious taquitos so I ordered the chicken. Presentation and flavor were all there! The salsa it came with wasn't my personal favorite so I traded my partner for the salsa verde- WOWZA! That salsa slapped, acidic and perfect level of spiciness. Service was great, Spanish music set the mood, what's not to like?! I'd come here again for sure :) delicious and enjoyable

Chips and salsa and ranch waters

This little cozy restaurant is off the beaten path it's mostly tucked away amongst the homes. We like Mexican food and when we were looking at the other restaurants on the main road,, we weren't captivated by anything - we parked on the main street by the fire dept and walked a few blocks down -got a little exercise and glad we did. Worth the walk. Felt very much for Neighborhood community. We sat at the bar, ordered the taco plate and ranch waters. The tacos and the beans were delicious. Meat was tender, and the beans were super tasty. The chips were very light and crispy, and the salsa was medium spice I would say more leaning toward mild

Great little spot - cozy! -- the hospitality was spot on! We were missing our friend Bernie and as fate would have it , our server was named Bernie. She was a true sport when we got emotional about it. Had some very good margaritas!!! I will try and go back before we leave for sure !!!

The food was awesome! So tasty! We will be back. We are coming for the first time. If you are looking for large plates of food, you might want to go to El Troritos, this place had quality food!

The entrance is on the left where it says "Cantina". Wonderful outdoor seating as well as indoor outdoor with a fantastic looking bar.

Todos Santos is an absolute gem. I grew up just down the street, and for years this location was the old Park Avenue Café -- a place I always felt sentimental about after it closed. I honestly never thought I'd walk into a new business there and feel happy about it... but Toto's Santos completely changed that and I'm genuinely glad they're there. The food was phenomenal. Fresh, flavorful, and the portions were huge. The prices were completely reasonable, which is especially impressive given that this is Balboa Island -- an upper-class area where you often expect inflated pricing.(A truly giant homemade vegetarian burrito with fantastic homemade guacamole and pico de gallo along with a crispy chips and salsa all for $18 plus tip). What also really stood out was the atmosphere. It's classy without being pretentious. You could dress up for dinner, wear clean jeans and a T-shirt, or even come in with sandy feet after the beach. I was in a dress (and a huge backpack), but there were families with young children, someone had a dog tucked under their table, and everyone seemed equally welcome. That balance is rare. The woman running the restaurant was extra incredible -- warm, kind, and genuinely attentive. I was backpacking through and had a long night of public transit ahead of me, and they kindly charged my nearly-dead phone while I ate. She asked which cord my cell used and she set me up with an existing cord that they had been using to charge something else without me even asking for that. They even encouraged me to relax and enjoy my meal as long as I wanted, despite the restaurant filling up. The complimentary chips and salsa were light and crispy and clearly authentic. There is truly nothing I would have changed. Fantastic food, fantastic service, and an atmosphere that manages to be both elevated and welcoming at the same time. I don't leave reviews like this very often for restaurants. Toto's Santos is a gift to Balboa Island. ‿ I would have taken a picture of the food, but remember my phone was charging. In the two photos I included you will see the word "Cantina" on the left, that is part of the restaurant and where the entrance is. Indoor/outdoor seating and outdoor seating with heat lamps if needed.

Chicken Tostada, Breve Latte, chips & salsa, glass of water

This was my first time dining here and it definitely won't be my last. Upon entry, I was promptly greeted by the hostess Brooke and Barista/main man Kevin. This sort of reception and ambience doesn't exist in many restaurants these days. To experience this has renewed my optimism for dining out and trying new places. The menu offers a variety of Mexican cuisine, but is streamlined and easy to decipher and order from. I wound up getting a Breve Latte and the Tostada salad with grilled chicken along with a side of chips and salsa. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and look forward to dining here again.

Capuccino

Best coffee in Newport Beach! Excellent dark roast coffee and espresso, Todos has even surpassed Blue Bottle Coffee! The cappuccinos are even better than Kean's. People don't even realize it since it's branded as a Mexican restaurant. Kevin, Matt, Sandra, and the entire crew that work in the morning have cultivated a great coffee and breakfast culture for locals and visitors on the island. It feels like time with family at Todos, with amazing coffee!

Happy Hour

Service and vibe are excellent! Happy hour is on point. Had the crispy chicken tacos and todos Santos margarita. The complimentary chips and salsa are great!

It was busy but they got us in pretty quickly. I had no idea they have a taco Tuesday menu. A lot of people did so come early. It's nice there, they had heaters on the patio outside. Food was great. Loved it!

Tortilla Soup

First time here. Stopped in specifically for the tortilla soup and would have to say was one of best I've had! Recommend to anyone who enjoys tortilla soup. Nice outdoor seating - beautiful day after a good rain so no complaints.

Chicken taquitos

The restaurant is located in a corner next to beautiful small houses in a quiet street down Balboa. From the outside looks very promising, it even has an outside patio, with a lovely bar in the back. The hostess was very friendly, in the other hand our waiter seemed to be in a rush at all times. The food was 3/5 chips and salsa were really good. The queso fundido was a complete failure it seems more like cheese soup more than anything. My chicken flautas were delicious and so it was the tacos. This place probably is a hit or miss depending on your expectations. Probably if we had a better server i will have rate it 4 stars instead of three.

Tostada Salad ($16+$10 for Steak). (And yes, I wanted it cooked that well-done).
Tracey A.

Dinner here on a very busy Friday night left me with a few impressions: * Don't believe the "35 minute" wait. The place was full but a table opened up in under 5 minutes. Success! * A complimentary basket of fresh tortilla chips and a generous bowl of very good red salsa will not just make me happy but it'll also lessen the pain of food that takes a while coming out of the kitchen. * Being off the main drag I expected more locals-less tourists but people know where to find good food. The house seemed to be a mix of both. A Tostada Salad ($16+$10 for addition of steak) tasted great. The server had asked how I liked my steak cooked and because I like charred bits on my carne asada I let that be known. It arrived quite perfectly cooked. A Tacos Trio ($19) received equally enthusiastic thumbs-up. All around, I liked Todos Santos quite a lot. They have a daily happy hour (ending at 5:30) which I'll probably never get to but a Taco Tuesday with good deals stretching until 9:30 pm looks enticing enough to lure me back.

It was very crowded on a Sunday night around 6:00pm. We made reservations but arrived a little early so elected for a drink at the bar. Right in cue we spotted two stools open up so grabbed them. I didn't catch our bartenders name but she was very friendly and attentive. They all seamed happy and friendly. We ordered two Tito's dirty martinis and she served them properly. Super cold and to the rim. Perfect start. We loved sitting at the bar so cancelled our table reservation and ordered food. I ordered the Truffle Udon Carbonara* egg yolk, bacon, dashi truffle cream sauce. $27. So tasty. I would order again and again. My husband ordered skewer chicken with spicy rice. He loved it. We thought the restaurant was great. Easy to find parking or you can valet if you prefer, friendly staff and delicious food. We will make it a point at come back next time we are in town.

It wasn't terrible, and we didn't leave thinking the food was awful, but for what the experience seems like it should have been it was not great. The signature cocktails are really nothing special and cost a lot. I personally had the Blood Orange Sour and might as well have just made my own whiskey sour at home and saved $17. We reserved a table outside and the atmosphere was nice and seats were comfortable. We're not sure if it was because we were sat in the far corner or they were understaffed, but the service was very slow, and even getting our card back after we paid took at least 10 minutes. Finally, the food was fine, aside from one of the salmon entrees coming out VERY rare. The restaurant ended up comping this dish for us. If you're looking for a nice night out with great food and drinks, there are plenty of more satisfying options for m Orange County that will be far better, and also cost you less than CDM.

We had a great experience at A +O restaurant | Bar located in the Balboa Bay Club…read more We enjoy stopping at A + O while visiting NPB. Although it is located in a resort, it is definitely a locals spot. Everyone appeared to know each other from the area. Very friendly. We arrived around 11:00 am for Brunch and to watch the final day of The Masters. It was a rainy morning so we elected to sit at the bar. We typically enjoy sitting outside on the patio at the tables or the fire pits, if you still at the bar, you still have a nice view of the boats lined up in the harbor. Tia was the bartender when we arrived. She was very attentive and professional. Tia explained brunch was already over which we were a little bummed but she said she could still do a couple of breakfast boards. Neither looked like what we were interested in eating so we elected to go for lunch. We ordered Bloody Marys and they were delicious. We started with the Chef's Seasonal Burrata - Pistachio pesto, roasted beets, pomegranate, lemon olive oil, fresh herbs, grilled house made focaccia. This was very refreshing and tasty. It is also GF and Veg. I ordered the A+O Burger - Brioche bun, butter lettuce, 1000 island, farmhouse cheddar, caramelized onion, pickles, fries. I ordered it Medium and unfortunately the burger was cooked well done. It had great flavor but it was a little dry since not cooked to order. The fries were delicious, hot and crispy. My husband ordered the Pork Belly Sliders - Pork belly, butterleaf lettuce, roma tomatoes, fresh sliced pickles, spicy aioli, Kings Hawaiian slider bun. He said they were delicious. Tia left and Joe took over. Joe was amazing. Very attentive and friendly. Joe went out of his way to grab a drink I requested that was not available at the bar and brought it out for me. Very nice! The bar was crowded and Joe took care of everyone with ease while giving everyone attention. Cameron also came in shift and was very friendly as well. The service was excellent and we liked the food. If they had cooked my burger to requested temp it would have been perfect. We will be back!

Advertised live dj on sundays when we made reservations and there was no live music. Food is overall bland as hell, steak was chewy and dry and unsalted it seems. Chicken and waffles board was probably the worst chicken and waffles I've had, and all the sides that came with it seemed random as hell. We were excited to try a newish brunch spot out and to get a bottle of champagne for mimosas. Little did we know, that the mimosa would be the best part of the meal. This spot replaced a super crappy brunch buffet, that was one of the saddest buffets I've ever been to. Saw that they opened a new concept and saw that they advertised live DJs on sundays for brunch. So we decided to try it. We sat down and ordered the chicken and waffles platter and steak and salad plate. The chicken and waffle plate was really not that good, not a single item on the platter was good. Waffles, you can tell they tried to make it fancy, but just tasted weird and dry. The syrup, looks like they make in house also, not sweet enough and bland. The chicken was the least bland item out of everything, but it's not worth it at all. The steak was one of the chewiest, dry steaks I've had in a while also under seasoned, maybe even no salt. The chicken platter also had random items on it, that made no sense. Random sprigs of rosemary, marshmallow amongst other items. Nothing seemed to gel and it looked like they were just trying to fill the space with easy things. The mimosas that came with the chicken and waffles platter was the star of our meal. Honestly, I'd say it's hard to make food taste this bland and whatevers. With what they are charging, the steak shouldn't be dry and chewy, let alone not seasoned. Everything was under seasoned like we were in a cardiatric ward in the hospital. You can make better food following any recipe on YouTube. 2 stars for the mimosa and the server was very friendly, service wasn't anything to write home about though. Not busy at all, and a lot of workers just standing around. We didn't get checked on much throughout the meal. Oh and the valet was free at least.

I mentioned that the first host had said we could sit outside and she said "Oh no, those tables are full" but I had just seen several open... so? It wasn't a huge deal though. We waited a looong time for a waiter to come over and when he did he brought us two waters - one cold and with ice and one very warm with no ice. I have no idea how he got two completely different waters. He apologized for being late and took our order. 45 minutes later - our food shows up (I ordered the salmon sandwich and my mom ordered a bowl of clam chowder). The clam chowder was served in a big bowl but was about a cups worth of soup...lots of empty space in that big bowl... However, my sandwich came with a large piece of plastic in it. I flagged down the manager, who is the only reason this review is getting 2 stars instead of 1, who was very nice, apologized prefusely, told me our meal was on the house, and offered me make me another sandwich. However, I said that I couldn't wait another 45 minutes for a new sandwich so I asked for a caesar salad instead - which he quickly got me. But..this is where bad turns worse. About 80% of the way through my salad, I look down and there's a silver bug walking around my lettuce. This is not a flying bug...it was in the salad. Ugh - I couldn't deal. Since the manager had already told us our meal was comped, we got up to leave but we've worked in kitchens before so wanted to alert the manager. I asked the younger male host at the front to get him for me and he said "oh, I can help you...what's up?" When I explained, he said, "Oh, okay, can you do me a favor and go sit back at your table and I'll send someone over?" Hahaha - no, I can't go sit back at the table with the bug. Geez louise! I told him as such and asked for the manager, who again, was super nice, offered me a gift card to return (which I turned down, I've been put off from this place at this point) but it was kind of him. He handled the situation very well and assured me he was going to go check the lettuce in the kitchen. The manager is the saving grace of this place but honestly, between weird warm water, terrible wait service (we never saw that original waiter again after he dropped off the water and took our order), plastic in one dish and a bug in the other...I'm concerned for the state of their kitchen. We certainly won't be back.
