Sour cream onion martini

I came here for a work lunch, and while the service was great, the food was unfortunately disappointing. This used to be one of my staple restaurants in McLean, but I've noticed a significant decline in quality over time. Even in my previous review, I wasn't particularly impressed, and this visit was no different. I ordered the 6-ounce filet, which appeared noticeably smaller than the advertised portion. For a restaurant at this price point, I expect better consistency in both quality and portion sizes. It's disappointing because I used to really enjoy coming here, but at this point, I don't see myself returning. The service remains excellent, but unfortunately, the food no longer lives up to what this restaurant once was.

The food was really good. Ambience is very nice. But the service was out of this world! My server, Ben made it probably one of the best experiences I've ever had in a Restaurant! And trust me when I tell you that that's a tall task! He was so professional but most of all very kind. I've never had a server who actually shook my hand and thanked me for coming in. I've left many reviews and have been to many restaurants, but this guy band was by far the best server I've ever had! I was on my way to Virginia from New York when I looked on yelp and found this place. If I know he still works here I am willing to drive back! Thank you, Ben

I always enjoy the food at J.Gilbert's. The service is great and the ambiance is nice for dining in. It's a great place for casual to celebrating.a special occasion.

This was a really good brunch buffet. I met a friend here for their weekend brunch buffet which we both enjoyed. Staff were friendly and the Bellinis were tasty. A very large space inside with lots of seating. The buffet was on the bar side of the restaurant. There was a seafood section, some pastries, main breakfast options, fruit, an omelette and prime rib station, and mini desserts. I did enjoy the seafood although it lacked any sauce (hot sauce, vinegar) which I requested from my server instead. Overall, a very good buffet with plenty of options for people to enjoy.

It's not a birthday celebration for me if I don't have a steak, so this year we tried J Gilbert's. I put on my reservation it was my birthday, and when we got to the table they had decorated it with birthday decorations. When we sat down, we ordered drinks. I got the watermelon margarita and my guest had a smoked old fashion. The watermelon flavor in my margarita was so good. For the table, they brought out a loaf of bread with two different butters. For my meal, I went with the Prix fix dinner. I got the crab bisque to start, and it had so much crab and it was nice and creamy. I got the filet mignon for my entree, and it was cooked perfectly medium rare. I also enjoyed the mashed potatoes were creamy and buttery. I also got a carrot cake for dinner. I don't usually love carrot cake but it was so moist and tasty. My only complaint was that the service started out slow. It took a while for a waiter to come to our table and then the drinks were really slow. After the appetizers came out, the service did end up speeding up. I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere a lot. The restaurant feels like you are in a cabin in the woods. I will be back, maybe for my next birthday.

Went here for dinner the other night. The service was really nice. They did forget my friend's side but brought it immediately once we notified them. Restaurant had decent amount of parking outside restaurant as well as option for valet. We had reservations ahead of time. The place was decently lit and not too loud. The lamb was delicious with a side of mushroom risotto and corn. The carrot cake was huge and really good. My friends said: it was some of the best they've ever had. The crème brûlée was also good (not too heavy).

Location has plenty of parking and indoor seating. Hosts were welcoming and our waiter was attentive. I really enjoyed my pineapple martini and loved my added cherries. Food was flavorful and the bread was absolutely delicious!!! Dessert was ok, but presentation was nice. If in VA we will def visit again.

They offer a great happy hour with full sized discounted appetizers unlike other places that discount portion with the price. Drinks are great and atmosphere is intimate and welcoming. Also love the smell of real wood charcoals

This is the perfect place to celebrate! My partner & i went to celebrate his birthday and we enjoyed everything from the service to the food. The restaurant gives a intimate and romantic vibe. The food was absolutely delicious and very filling! S/o to our server Lara who gave us awesome recommendations and took very good care of us. We will definitely be coming back and i definitely would recommend!

Went here for a mother daughter date for Valentines Day Dinner. BE SURE TO MAKE A RESERVATION! We went at 6pm and it was packed so thank God we had our reservation. Parking is tight, but they had a garage directly across the street and Valet. Ambiance is very cute and nice. I wasn't too fond of the table we were at as it was flimsy and close to the neighboring table. Oyster Rockefeller was terrible very soupy and taste was bad. Cesar salad was super basic. However, the steak and lobster were good. My martini was perfect and my daughter loved the lemonade. Deserts were a heart shaped chocolate cake which was superb. I will go again on a regular weekend to see how the food compares as valentines was very busy.

We came here for lunch during restaurant week and it was so packed I definitely recommend getting a reservation! The food was excellent- we really enjoyed the steak frites, crab bisque, and chocolate mousse! The whole restaurant was so pretty and the service was very kind and fast! Definitely worth it

As for the service, there was always someone filling up our waters and our waiter was very nice checking in every now and then. The only downside of the experience is at the end when the waiter was boxing up all the food for us. Very sweet that they do this but when boxing up my partners food, they only boxed up the rice and they got rid of the lamb that he was looking forward to eating more of later. So that was kind of a disappointment for us. I think if we go again, we would request to box our food ourselves since I'm not sure why they decided to get rid of all of his lamb.

We had an incredible experience celebrating a birthday at Evelyn Rose!…read more The menu is exciting, seasonal, and features a TON of local options and farms- you can taste the difference. We decided to start by sharing the wagyu carpaccio, the fried green tomatoes, and an appetizer portion of the cavatelli- I really like that you can do appetizer portions of both pastas on rotation on the menu here. We were also brought two pieces of focaccia with incredibly flavorful olive oil (yum!). The cavatelli and the fried green tomatoes were standouts for us, the pasta had a great chew and the bolognese was really flavorful. The fried green tomatoes came topped with a pimento cheese that was incredible. For our entrees, we opted for the braised bison shoulder and the scallops. The scallops were perfectly prepared and were a very generous portion. The bison shoulder was so tender and the accompaniments were incredible- this was a perfect fall dish. We also got the charred sweet summer corn, which was delicious and came studded with the lightest goat cheese, and rustic Old Bay potatoes, which were absolutely perfectly fried and came with a side of some honey mustard. We took a good amount of the sides home and they held up for a day or two! I was really impressed with the wine list here- there were a lot of solid options. The champagne in particular was excellent (and I am picky!). Our server, who I believe was Riley, really made it a special night. He was so attentive and had excellent suggestions. One touch that was so thoughtful was that we had declined dessert because we would be having birthday cake later, but mentioned that the banana tres leches sounded so good. He brought over a scoop of the banana ice cream that's typically on top of that dessert with a candle in it! It was so kind of him to listen to us but still recognize that it was a special occasion- and it was some of the best ice cream I've had in a long time (he said it is made in house every day with duck eggs, it was so rich and flavorful). We have already booked our return reservation here! Thanks to Evelyn Rose for a wonderful night with such memorable food.

The staff was friendly and welcoming, which always helps when you're out celebrating a special occasion. My one criticism of the special menu is the bacon-wrapped filet. As someone who doesn't eat pork products, it's disappointing to have that preparation limit my choices. Filet is a great cut on its own, and I would have appreciated having an option without the bacon. That aside, it was an enjoyable evening and a nice place to celebrate a birthday. We had a family event of approximately 36-40, and 4 waiters to attend to our party. I think it would be better if they split the waiters by section- I felt it was disorganized - I had to ask for the drink menu 3x and waited 20 minutes. They also took our dessert order but then my mom and I never got ours- but the waiter said he brought everything out (there was nothing served to us), and he did eventually bring it out about 25-30 min later when we were leaving. It seems like they bring around the meat selections speedily for about 30-45 min (it's like one immediately after the other) and then it's finished- so make sure you get the selections within those first 30-45 min. But they did bring some meats back when people asked- so that was nice. The ribeye and filet were the best, I'd skip the chicken- super dry. Desserts were average to subpar. Cosmo was watered down but the espresso martini was good! I think I'll try again as just a smaller party/regular dining guest and see how that goes. Overall, felt like it was ok but room for improvement. Service was the biggest thing that overshadowed the experience.
