From the complimentary chips and two types of salsa (green and red), to the dessert (chocolate coconut cake), we enjoyed our meal. We had guacamole in addition to the salsa. Our first dining experience at Ometeo was a bit of a mixed bag. The food itself was quite good--that wasn't the issue. I ordered the shrimp fajitas while my husband got the carnitas fajitas. His portion was generous, but mine only came with five shrimp, which felt pretty underwhelming for nearly $30. On the positive side, the rice and beans were flavorful, and the complimentary chips and salsa were enjoyable. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. Our server, Sam, was extremely slow and inattentive. We had to flag him down multiple times just to get basic things like refills on iced tea or boxes for our leftovers. It felt like we would have been completely overlooked if we hadn't actively tried to get his attention. Even when he did assist us, the service was lacking. For example, he didn't bring enough to-go boxes, and we ended up waiting until a food runner noticed us and stepped in. When I asked for salsa to go, he brought an empty container. We also sat waiting for quite a while to pay our check until a manager (we assume) finally came by to process it. It wasn't just us--the table nearby also had issues. A guest repeatedly asked Sam for a clean glass after receiving a dirty one, but he never brought it, and he also got her drink order wrong. Overall, while the food was good, the service experience really detracted from the evening. Will we be back? Probably not. My family and I came here for Mother's Day lunch and we didn't have the best experience with our service. The restaurant plays really loud music so it's hard to hear ourselves talk and makes it hard for our waiter to hear. Our waiter was not the friendliest and didn't smile at all. We didn't get refills on our drinks or water unless we flagged down our waiter. Our appetizers were also forgotten. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside but I don't think we would come back here due to the service we received and the food was just okay. We decided to go here for restaurant week since it's been on my list for a minute. Pretty solid menu with massive portions all things considered. I opted for just a water but landed on the chicken tortilla soup, enchinalas, and some vanilla ice cream. The atmosphere there is pretty cool and they have a sick private event space upstairs. Speaking of upstairs, that's where the bathrooms are too. Single stalls for the dudes, sick. They goofed our ice cream (pina colada instead of vanilla bean) but quickly made it right. I've been here to eat and for events. The food is Americanized Latin food at best. Flavor is bland. I think my gripe is that during events, I haven't even finished eating or drinking and my food is quickly taken away. Even requesting that I am still working on my food or drink, it's generally disregarded and taken away. It causes the organizer or me to have to order more food and drink. I don't like the game of buying more food and drink just to make more money because I think it is awfully wasteful to just throw away half eaten food and expensive drinks that I would totally eat but am just busy socializing. The mariachi band was fantastic and I love that they came up and sang at our table. But unfortunately this is kinda where the "great" part ends... Pretty price for subpar food and drinks ($27 fajitas, $7 side of rice and beans, you can easily spend $100 on a couple of entrees and drinks). The restaurant is spacious - good for large parties with a vibrant ambiance and some outdoor space. Glad to see complimentary chips and salsa! The warm fried chips are delicious and the best part of our meal! The salsa has a very spicy kick particularly the green Salsa Verde, and prefer the more mild Brown salsa. The $14 for Guacamole is a bit pricey and can be a hit/miss. The fresh crispy chips are usually served warm and the guac had a spicy kick with some chili powder sprinkled on top and surprisingly stayed fresh the next day, last time the guac was a bit soggy. You get also get a side side of it. The Veggie Fajitas have gone downhill since the restaurant opened. It used to come with grilled mushrooms, sweet potato, pineapple and sadly hasn't been the same experience since and the hearty veggies seem to have disappeared! It's now just grilled corn with some peppers and onions. The chunky Nopales cactus veggie was too big to stuff into the tortillas. Mushrooms and peppers would pare better.The crispy manchego cheese is the best part served with a mix of warm flour/corn tortillas made daily in-house along with rice and beans. On the Brunch menu - Huevos Rancheros was okay. It was the standard crispy round tacos shells with a sunny side eggs and black beans soaking in spicy mole sauce and mild green verde sauce. The sourdough Pancakes are ginormous and fluffy. While the pancakes were topped with neatly adorned candied pecans and apple preserve, I wish there was more compote as the pancakes were a bit bland and dry. The Breakfast Burrito are HUGE and was absolutely stuffed, and regretfully conquered it! It's like a a foot long and a Chipotle burrito feels like a baby in comparison! The Burrito came with scrambled eggs, potatoes, onions (I swapped chorizo for the onions), it was quite dense and heavy. The Kids menu is surprisingly really good, the Cheese Quesadilla was a crispy and delicious, and a generous size! The cocktail are pre-made in large batches on draught. my favorites are the Guava & Hibiscus Margarita, and the Mezcal Mule. Both the Maverick cocktail with vanilla vodka, guava-hibiscus cordial, lime, served with sparkling wine & passion fruit caviar and Above the Clouds Negroni cocktail with strawberry-infused mezcal, vermouth, aperitivo mazzura, arroz were watered down. I wish the drinks were made to order. If you're going to a show and craving Mexican food or work at Capital One, Ometeo might be worth checking out.
