Agua Aguachile Verde
Idalia C.

The food is good. The service is also good. It's a newer location so it doesn't get as busy which is nice if you're hungry and dont want to wait forever, it's a solid place for Mexican, I wouldn't call it authentic. The drinks are good, I have tried a few and wasn't disappointed, the corn ribs are a hit, the tacos are ok. The agua chile is decent, more lemony but it's not spicy at all. I'd call it a solid place if you don't want to wait forever and want good food but it's not authentic, it caters to Americanized mexican food, Parking is decent. They have street parking nearby that isn't full all the time.

Chicken & Steak Fajitas
Britney B.

I've visited the first Helena's location on Telegraph, so I was excited to see that a new Falls Church location had opened. I decided to stop by because I was craving fajitas. From the moment I arrived, the staff was incredibly kind, welcoming, and patient. My partner and I started with the Queso Dip with extra chorizo, which was perfectly ooey-gooey and made for a great shareable appetizer. For my entrée, I ordered the chicken and steak fajitas. Both were cooked perfectly, and I loved the flavorful onions that came with them. My only minor complaint is that the cheese came with an additional charge, as most fajita dishes I've ordered elsewhere typically include cheese. Aside from that, the portions were generous, and everything was delicious. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'm happy to have another location closer to home.

Salsa

This place is a major upgrade over the previous Mexican restaurant that was in this space. The food here was super hot, fresh and tasty. The free chips and salsa are better than at most places and the salsa had lots of flavor and I really enjoyed it. The house guacamole is also worth a try but it's not cheap and the price is "market" in the menu is assume based on the price of avocados. The three enchilada combo gives you a variety of filling options, I went with shrimp, birria beef, and carne asada. I enjoyed all of them but it was a little lame that the shrimp were the small salad type shrimp rather than the full sized ones. They also give you more sauce options than most places, I went with Mole sauce and it went very well with the enchiladas. It also came with enjoyable rice and beans. The Kiki's house margarita went very well with my meal and it's a must try since it's a real margarita, with fresh ingredients not just the mix. Service is very fast and friendly and we were able to eat on the patio since we had good weather. This place is a welcome addition to Falls Church and while it's a little pricey it's enjoyable and I'll be back.

Calamari
Maryanne G.

What a fabulous local gem!! They know how to make every ingredient sing! The Ceviche was spectacular (be sure and ask for a spoon to slurp up the deliciousness!). At our table we did birria, mushroom, pork belly, fish and shrimp tacos -- all were spectacular. And the mushroom tasted just as "beefy" as the actual beef (great choice for vegetarians!). No salt/pepper on the table, because you really don't need it. Sandra was our server and she was wonderful -- very proud of the restaurant and attentive to our table. We did free street parking in the neighborhood -- no issue there. Just a great experience overall. Cannot wait to come back and bring more locals with us!

ceviche tropical

The restaurant is located at the corner and is next to Patient First; it was hard to find at first but we made it! The place itself is cute and they were accommodating to our party of 8. The food was decent, but it didn't quite wow me. I ordered the Ceviche Tropical, but there wasn't much fish or shrimp. It was topped with a generous amount of diced pineapple and mango, which was refreshing, but I felt the fruit-to-seafood ratio was a bit off.. I also tried the charro beans (braised pinto beans with pork) but it was bland and watery. On the brighter side, we started with the wings and calamari, and both were enjoyable. The calamari was tender with a nice light crisp, and the wings were juicy with a tasty sauce that I really liked. The service was great, our server was nice and friendly. At the end of dinner, they brought out a small ice cream bowl and a sombrero with the serving staff gathering around to sing Happy Birthday to our birthday boy.

Burrito
Terri D.

Celebrated my mom's 84th bday, big family of 16 and staff did excellent job! The food was delish and plated beautifully, from apps of queso, calamari to variety of mains (burrito, shrimp, birria taco, branzino, etc) - no complaints! Drinks were excellent too! Thank you for your patience and wonderful time at your lovely restaurant!

Ceviche Pescado

Was excited to try this new outpost of Helena's Mexican Restaurant (of Alexandria) in Falls Church. Being smack dab in a higher rent area made me expect slightly higher menu prices, and I was not wrong. That being said, finding value in a menu like this one can be challenging - but I'm happy to give it a shot! The Chips+Salsa (Complimentary) were a nice surprise. The tortilla chips were warm and evenly salted. The house salsa is a very mild, darker roasted pepper variety that is finely blended. A safe flavor profile with no discernible heat notes. I asked for their "hot" sauce which was perfect on my entrée (see photo). The ceviche menu looked interesting - there are 6 to choose from. Ordered the Ceviche Pescado ($15) and unfortunately it was too salty to be fairly reviewed. Next time I'll try a different one. In the meantime, keep this in mind. I was satisfied with the Steak+Chicken Combo Fajitas ($30). I was surprised when the waiter asked me how I would like my fajita steak temperature to be - I said "Medium?". Both proteins came out juicy and perfectly seasoned. My only critique of the steak: They sliced it with-the-grain (the wrong way), making it hard to chew and especially hard to bite off when wrapped up in a tortilla. It should be sliced against-the-grain. The bed of grilled onions simmered in the steak+chicken juices were my favorite. Next time I would ask for extra onions. How I WISH this dish were $20 instead of $30. At $20, it would be a once-a-week tradition for a lot of people. At $30, I don't really think of it as a high-rotation contender on my hypothetical eating-out playlist. $30 gets you AYCE sushi (which includes steak yakitori) a few blocks down the street... Some small notes: The water glasses at my table were never refilled - they remained empty for the 2nd half of the meal. The tables for two are quite small considering the number of plates one may expect in a normal dining experience here. There was a wadded up roll of butcher paper underneath one of the table support feet (to keep it from wobbling, I presume) which looked janky. Fix that right & for real - it's a brand new restaurant - do it right!

Enchilada Combination
Adam J.

Customer service very good here. Loved the salsa. Enchiladas were delicious. Did steak, chicken, birria, with verde and mole salsas. I'm still here so if I get the wings which look amazing will report back. Ambiance great. Music in background and showing FIFA World Cup. Will absolutely return.

A WHOLE NEW FAMILY FEELING is the overwhelming impression from Helena's. We went to Cuates Grill for years and enjoyed it, and even though it's in the same place with much of the same layout, the Hernandez family has imbued something more in the experience. This restaurant is FAMILY owned and FAMILY run, and you can feel it. Everyone here gets along, and everyone cares! THE ATMOSPHERE was dominated by faces, all welcoming and offering to help. The ones that are busy are out of the way, and those that are free are lined up to greet you and offer help. There is traditional Mexican music playing, new table layouts and new booths. THE FOOD stands out immediately! They melted the cheese into the shells of their tacos, the guac was so chunky, the calimari was so tender and light, the ceviche was laid out like a large gourmet poké dish -- low in carbs, high in protein and veggies, not overcooked or too salty. THE SERVICE was multi-layered, so there were no dead spots during our time there, so not much waiting. Manager and owner each came by and listened carefully to our feedback. BOTTOM LINE: We were surprised at how nice this place was, and don't think of it at all in the same light as previously. THIS ORGANIZATION HAS DEPTH, and I hope they are here a long time. We will definitely be coming back!

La Vida Solo Es Una (left) & Paloma (right)
Nahely R.

Had to come back for this delicious food. Got to try the Pozole and it was amazing. Definitely had to get both Aguachiles again 10/10. Our server, Sandra was lovely, gave us fast service and had great recommendations. Favorite part of this lunch date was dessert and drinks. My partner got two Micheladas and a Paloma, I had the Jamaica Agua Fresca and a La Vida Solo es Una. All the drinks were top notch. My personal favorite dessert is the Churros and it's paired lovely with the homemade hibiscus jam. New favorite spot, will be back again.

Anniversary | Menu | Vibes…read more Anniversary - We celebrated our wedding anniversary over Sunday brunch, which was a great option with an infant at home. The restaurant was about 50% full when we arrived at 10 a.m., making it relaxed and easygoing. The staff made the occasion feel special with complimentary champagne, an elevated table setting, and a signed anniversary card from the team. Small touches, but they made a big difference. Menu - The menu has a good range while remaining relatively simple and focused. The pairings are clearly well thought out. I had the chicken sandwich with fries and considered substituting the tater tots, but the staff strongly encouraged me to stick with the chef's recommended pairing. They were right. The fries complemented the sandwich well, and I appreciated a staff confident enough in the menu to steer me toward the chef's vision. Vibes - Great ambiance. It's an ideal date spot while somehow remaining very family-friendly. About a quarter of the tables had kids under 10, yet the restaurant never felt loud or chaotic. The finishes and decor are simple but elevated, creating a space that feels special without being overly formal. Pro tip: There's a parking lot across the street, and the restaurant validates parking. Easy and convenient. Pro tip: Get a reservation. I expect this place to become increasingly popular over the next 3-6 months as word gets out about the food, service, and overall experience.

The ambience is a nice modern vibe, great for casual dinner, not too expensive. The food is decent, all up to standard. All perfectly cook with some safe creativity. Nothing that blows your mind but cannot expect that at $65 these days. Greens on toast is nice and refreshing. The citrus salad is good too but nothing too unexpected than it looks. Mains with salmon and pork chop are solid. Not too memorable but happy to eat. Desserts are ok ... but their brunch is more memorable with their pancakes.

Nue was the fine dining recommendation, and I have to say it was a great introduction to Vietnamese cuisine. As far as parking, there is a garage within walking distance of the stores and restaurants, so parking was pretty convenient. The restaurant itself was beautifully designed. It was dimly lit, spacious, and had a really nice atmosphere. Our waitress was also very knowledgeable about the menu and offered some great suggestions, which was especially helpful since I wasn't very familiar with Vietnamese food. The menu was pretty expansive, and I have to say some of the cocktail descriptions immediately caught my attention. I tried the Lychee Sunset Fizz, made with Hornitos Blanco Tequila, lychee liqueur and lychee, calamansi, yuzu and grenadine. I tend to go for sweeter drinks so this was a nice balance. For food, the Seafood Chả Giò was one of my favorites. It had wild Gulf shrimp, lump crab, Berkshire pork, taro, carrots and fresh herbs. It definitely seems to be one of their headlining items because it was something I noticed quite a few people ordering, and I can see why. But my absolute favorite was the Snow Crab Fried Rice. It had hand-pulled snow crab, shrimp, shallots, eggs and oyster mushrooms, and it was so flavorful and filling. Honestly, I regretted not ordering another portion to take home because I would have happily eaten it again later. All in all, I would definitely return to Nue to try some of the other items on the menu. I'm definitely not finished with my Vietnamese food journey yet, but this was a really great stop along the way. If the Snow Crab Fried Rice is any indication of what's still waiting for me on the menu, I have plenty more to explore.

However, some of the portion sizes could be better for the 5-course set menu. I believe it was $80 when we went in Sept 2026. We got the papaya Caesar salad, cha gio, hamachi crudo, main entree, and mango che dessert. Everything tasted great! But the cha gio was just 1 spring roll cut into 2 pieces, put on a PLATTER of herbs. It looks like a big plate but it was just 1 spring roll. The crudo again was elaborately plated but it was 1 tiny piece of fish. The fancy sauces it came with were a waste because the hamachi was barely a bite. My friend got the crispy chicken with coconut rice. I got that the first time I came and loved it. I wanted to try something new so I got the Bo Kho papardelle. It was just ok. I would not get that again. And the dessert was good. Overall, my 2nd visit was a bit disappointing due to the tiny portions for the price of the meal. Our waiter also disappeared half-way and came back for the bill. 20% is already included in your bill. I always tip 20% or more but with it already included in the bill, there's not much incentive, I guess. It was around 12:30pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was not that busy. Our waiter said he was on break... I wouldn't go there again unless it's for a celebration, initiated by someone else in my party.

While it was hard to choose just one, we ultimately went with One Night in Bangkok, since the decor and strong reviews on both Yelp and Google caught our attention. We parked in the lot in the back, and the restaurant is located on the second floor, where Duangrat's (another Thai restaurant) is. Upon arriving around 5 PM, it was pretty empty. The restaurant shares its space with a small market, and the interior features lots of neon lights and bold decor, giving it a vibrant street-food vibe. Our server (who is also the owner) was extremely friendly. She walked us through the entire menu and recommended her favorites, making sure we always had water and felt comfortable throughout the meal. Between the three of us, we shared two appetizers, two entrees, and a dessert to wrap up our meal nicely. KANOM JEEB - 10 The shape reminded me of Cantonese siu mai, with open-faced filling wrapped with wonton skins. Each order came with four dumplings, generously stuffed with minced pork and corn, sitting atop a sweet, soy-based marinade. Unlike Cantonese siu mai, which is purely savory, these had a noticeable sweetness. I really enjoyed them, so much so that my friends let me have the last one. SAMOSAS - 12 Each order came with four samosas, stuffed with potatoes and (possibly) peas. The pastry was very crispy, and the filling was well-seasoned and flavorful. They tasted freshly prepared, as they arrived hot while we were eating. PAD SI EW - 17 +1 for beef As basic as pad si ew is, it's one of my favorite Thai dishes. The wide rice noodles were quite fresh and pleasantly chewy, with a good amount of Chinese broccoli and beef stir-fried in. The sauce was spot-on -- savory with hints of sweetness. I also liked that the fried egg on top was really fluffy, allowing the sauce to seep through nicely. Overall, a solid dish. RABIENG'S ROAST PORK CURRY - 18 We asked for the curry to be mild since two of us have a very low spice tolerance, but even then one of my friends was sweating profusely. The roast pork was incredibly juicy and tender, which we loved. The curry itself was flavorful, though a bit overpowering and salty, which meant I had to eat a lot of rice to balance it out. The tomatoes added a nice touch of sweetness. CHINESE BEIGNETS - 9 To wrap things up, we enjoyed an order of Chinese beignets (aka 油条). They were perfectly fried and topped with powdered sugar and a light drizzle of condensed milk. Surprisingly light despite being fried dough, this dessert was highly recommended by the owner, who emphasized how well the chef prepares it, and she wasn't wrong. Definitely worth ordering! Overall, the food was good, and we were satisfied with our choices. The was more than enough for all three of us, and everything came at a very affordable price.

Each order comes as one large deboned piece of meat, which is then cut into bite-sized pieces--easy to eat by hand or with a fork. They're available in a variety of flavors. There's just as much indoor seating as there is outdoor, and possibly even more inside thanks to the bar and high-top tables. It's a great spot to start your night, end your night, or enjoy happy hour with friends after work. Service - For a bar, I thought the service was really good. Multiple waiters checked in on us, and we never had to wait for water or anything else. The recommendations they gave were great, and they stayed attentive throughout the night--even though it was moderately busy when we went. Pro tip: Be prepared to sit inside if you're hoping for a meaningful conversation--the street noise outside is quite loud. Between the main thoroughfare and the neighboring restaurants in the same alcove, it can get pretty noisy. If you value good conversation, you'll definitely want to opt for indoor seating.
