I came here midweek for a drink or two. I made a reservation and checked in at Wren. From there I took the elevator upstairs to the next person who welcomed us to the "sauna" (love the dedication!) and ushered us into the space. The ambiance was nice, dimly lit, good for dates or meetups with friends. We didn't have any food but the drinks were crafted well. I'd come back for sure. read more

I will start by saying the service was amazing! Our waiter accidentally gave us the wrong sashimi plate, but he corrected it right away. He also made sure to keep stopping by to refill our waters and take away our empty plates. My favorite dish was the foie gras carpaccio which was so flavorful! I'm glad they got rid of the picture taking policy which is weird to think they wouldn't want marketing from other customers...? I just can't justify the price point as it didn't really feel too filling especially after spending a good amount of money on a bunch of dishes. I've been to other Japanese spots where I feel I get more bang for my buck with just as good quality. read more

Such a cute spot with a really fun, upscale vibe and great views. We tried the wagyu chips, which were definitely interesting but really good! The dip was giving pimento cheese vibes, which I wasn't expecting, but it worked so well with the chips. I also had the lychee cocktail, which was light and refreshing. I asked for a lychee on the side because obviously I needed the garnish. Kevin our server and Maria were both super sweet! The decor was really unique, and the overall atmosphere made it a fun experience. Definitely a great spot for drinks and dinner! Note: I'd recommend making a reservation and I guess Friday and Saturday's they have a dj so if that's your vibe I'd hit them up then! read more

A few colleagues went to the Naisho Room for the first time. Its a speakeasy located through the sauna of the Watermark Hotel fitness room. You first have to make reservations though the Wren restaurant in the lobby and then they send you up. It has a cool mode vibe. Think of it as an upscale sushi restaurant with Japanese inspired cocktails. I had the Kira Kira and it was really good (I am a ginger beer fan). I had never seen a 3 inch tall rectangular ice cube in a drink before. It was night and the view was pretty cool. The service was great. I was a little on the expensive side but it's one of those things where you are paying for the experience. We did not eat anything but everyone enjoyed their drinks. Overall we had a great time and would recommend, read more

Without spoiling too much, I will share one undeniable fact -- you cannot go wrong with choosing Naisho Room! This speakeasy in the Watermark Hotel is the perfect combination of classy, elevated, bold, and exciting. Dimly lit, stylish decor matches perfectly with their welcoming hospitality, beautiful live music, and delicious food. Chef James Kim, bravo! And don't get me started on the drinks... adorable glassware complemented incredibly nuanced and balanced cocktails. Sean, you're crushing it! From start to finish, he and his team were attentive and thoughtful, offering not just quick advice but tailored curation of an unforgettable night. I cannot wait to return! read more

The Naisho Room has been open for a little over a year now and how quickly they learned that trying too hard to be "exclusive" does not go well. At least not in the DMV area where there are simply so many better options. Some friends and I were finally special enough to be granted a reservation and the whole experience was meh. I was a bit late so I checked in at Wren and then was walked back to the elevator to go up to their gym. From there you walk to a door. Once I got there and pulled on the door, a very dissatisfied hostess warned me not to do that. She walked me in and pointed me to an area but that wasn't even where my friends were sitting. Go figure! The decor left a lot to be desired and it was super bright inside. Right away the vibe was off. What speakeasy is bright? Definitely none that I've been to before. We each just ordered a drink and split an appetizer before dinner reservations at Wren. Once again, the drinks were not special at all. The Tokyo Reverie was somewhat drinkable, with Takumi being our least favorite. The server was somewhat friendly. Based on this experience, I have no desire to go back, nor would I recommend it to anyone. read more

Absolutely lovely! Very chic, very cool, very tasty. It's basically got a slightly speakeasy sort of vibe. This isn't the kind of place to get super authentic sushi, but what we did try was delicious, memorable, and unique. The drinks and service were also excellent. read more

One of the fun speakeasy still, but they are no longer restricting people to take a picture unlike when they first opened. 1. Reservation: needed 2. Drinks: very good. Old fashioned- good Sweet potato drink sounded insane, but it was wonderful! I love their creativity. 3. Smell: hate it. 1 star I took a star down because the smell was terrible. It must be the open kitchen with poor ventilation combined with tempura and deep frying in a closed area and your hair, clothes everything will smell like you work at McDonalds back kitchen and I absolutely hate that. I had to get up at 2 am to shower cause I couldn't sleep with that burnt smell from my hair despite tired and sleepy. 4. Service: great! 5 stars 5. Live music: not good We were sitting right next to it, yet we couldn't even hear! and not fun music either. It is an option. But due to smell, I cannot recommend it especially if you are dressed nicely. read more

Found out about this place randomly from a real estate blog. I would've likely not found out about this place otherwise. As soon as I discovered it, I immediately went. The entrance is absolutely unique. Once you get inside, it's like you've gone through a teleportation device and have ended up in Japan. The sushi is top-tier and among the best I've had in my life, the service was beyond incredible, (the staff was so nice), and the ambiance and interior design is breathtaking. As someone who takes his food, especially Sushi seriously, don't listen to the one two and three star reviews. That's just people being typical people. This place is absolutely incredible and a must try! read more

If you didn't know this place existed, you'd walk right past it -- and that's exactly the point. Naisho Room is a sushi speakeasy tucked behind the sauna room of a hotel gym in Tysons, and finding it already feels like part of the experience. Once inside, the vibe is intimate, moody, and intentional -- perfect for a date night or a "let's try something different" evening. We ordered a wide spread and honestly didn't miss once: * Japanese cocktails -- well balanced and thoughtfully crafted * All of the hand rolls -- fresh fish, clean flavors, and perfectly seasoned rice with a hint of sesame oil * Lobster tempura -- light, crispy, and not greasy * Stuffed shishito peppers -- just the right kick * Wagyu rice bowl -- rich, indulgent, and comforting * Kanpachi -- clean, delicate, and beautifully presented * Crème brûlée -- a smooth, torch-crack finish to the meal Service was attentive without hovering, and the pacing of the meal felt deliberate rather than rushed. Prices align with the quality and the experience -- this is not casual takeout sushi, but a destination-worthy spot. read more

The Naisho Room is an absolute must-visit! I went to their speakeasy located in the Watermark Hotel, and it completely exceeded my expectations. When you arrive, check in at the small table in the lobby, then head upstairs to the gym, you honestly have no idea where you're going next, which adds to the fun. From there, you move through a sauna (with a cool smoke/steam effect!) and finally enter the main space, which has an incredible Tokyo nightlife vibe. The origami-themed decor and lighting make it feel like night-time in Tokyo. The Naisho Room tends to be a dessert and drinks after dinner. They do have an amazing food menu, but limited. Everything on their food menu was delicious especially the rolls. Their in-house ice cream is a must, matcha and miso were my picks. My friend was wary of the miso, but it ended up being my favorite, tasting like rich caramel. The crème brûlée is fantastic, and the donuts are divine. Their hand rolls are also top-notch, every dish I tried was delicious. Drinks are excellent too; I especially loved the ube cocktail. Reservations are made via Instagram, where you get a code to enter. They also have a separate okasake section, which adds another fun element to the experience. This is definitely a spot for a romantic date night or a special night out. Many speakeasies don't live up to the hype, but it absolutely does, they nailed both the food and the ambiance. Highly, highly recommend! read more

I usually am enamored with speakeasies, but it was really hard to love this one. 1. Reservations - I've been with OpenTable and other restaurant online booking systems for decades but this is a first for me. They have two separate OpenTable listings (as noted in other reviews). I was clear in that i just wanted an after work chill happy hour. I booked for 4:30. After promptly showing up at the wren for my 4:30 appointment I was told, Naisho room doesn't open until 5 pm.... So why did you let me book for 4:30?!?! No explanation. No apology just "you're early..." 2. I promptly dropped $70 for drinks and an appetizer at the Wren bar to hold me and my guests over. It wasn't bad but that's not what I was hoping for... at 4:30. 3. The service to the speakeasy was great. The "gym stag" had our 4:30 and let us in at... 5:03 pm... 4. The waitress inside the speakeasy was super awkward and off putting. She really needs a class on etiquette. I ordered quite a bit right off the bat but my guests slow roll throughout the experience and she didn't seem too happy with that. Taking away our menus doesn't encourage us to order either. You charge $22 for one tea sandwhich but can't afford to print out more menus? The menus were also pretty dingy and I hand sanitized after using them. 5. Food. Was mid at best. Not at all authentic Japanese. I had the oyster shooter, temaki, Wagyu toast, Wagyu quesadilla, and mocktail. The oyster shooter was too sweet. And you could only taste the oyster and caviar at the end. Mostly as an aftertaste. There was a "too sweet" aspect to most of the food. The temaki was okay and I liked the crunchy bits but they went too far with the plastic wrap on the seaweed. The plastic wrap gave me Japanese 7-11 onigiri vibes. You do that if you aren't efficient enough to get the food out to guests at once and the seaweed will get soggy. I'm not sure if it was for a "fun factor" for people who are unfamiliar with grocery store onigiri in Asia but in a restaurant it should be done for you. The Wagyu toast was a HUGE disappointment. It was Sooooo sweet. I filet barely taste anything except the gross, sweet jam. And the toast was soggy and the texture of the bread felt prepared the day before and like refrigerator. It was not toasted at all. The star was the Wagyu quesadilla with beef tendon chips. It was the cheapest item on the menu and the most filling and delicious. 6. Drinks were very good. Expect about $20 a pop... $50 for the Japanese whiskey is highway robbery. Nothing really "rare." I have most bottles on the kitchen counter from the Virginia ABc or DC Costco. You can buy an entire bottle of the Japanese whiskey at Costco for the cost of one serving here. Overall, the Naisho room felt like all hype. For over $100 I was still pretty hungry. If the food tasted good I would have ordered more but I didn't think it was worth it. You get a nice view but it's the same from most of the capital one building. Same view from the brewery. Don't waste your money. Go elsewhere. Plenty of better happy hour spots for much much less considering if you stay for more than two hours you have to pay for parking (we did becuase, well, our reservation was at 4:30...) read more

So secret, they put stickers on the phone, which is honestly kinda random. The lychee cocktail ( The Pearl of the Orient ) was pretty good and had a strong lychee flavor but no actual lychee in the drink itself. It actually tastes the same as the one at Wren. The menu has a limited number of small bites. The wagyu tartare toast was mid--they put wagyu in front of the menu too much. Honestly is too much of a gag for me. The Wagyu Kamameshi (Wagyu fried rice) was good, but the waiter mixed it up for us instead of asking. Lobster Crunch was easily the best, and the best way I could describe it was Lobster deep fried with shrimp chips. Honestly nothing super stellar and really not that hidden except that you need a reservation and go to Wren front desk. Honestly was just a more hidden Wren. Small portion and an expensive, but it's definitely creative and they spent time on the decor. Wish they offered a keepsake that you can only get if you dined there to add to the "exclusivity". I can see people coming for a yap session. read more

A really cool speakeasy located in the gym of a hotel! Even though I knew about the location, the sauna facade still got me questioning "am I in the right place?". It was definitely fun and unique. The service was extremely nice and helpful. Cocktails were really delicious and I recommend the lychee one! The food was a slight letdown, as it was pricy for very small portions. I would not recommend the handrolls as they were lacking flavor. Desserts are great! read more

Decided to try this hidden gem (wink wink) while staying at a nearby hotel. If you know, you know. The entrance alone is incredibly unique, and the interior design does not disappoint. This quaint Japanese-inspired speakeasy was such a delightful surprise in so many ways. We came here on a whim to celebrate my birthday, and I'm so glad we did. My husband, my bestie, and I started with the Wagyu tendon chips--phenomenal. Definitely a treat if you've never had them. Think upscale pork rinds taken to the highest level. We also shared the mini Wagyu kamameshi, which was soooo delightful. The presentation was unexpected--the meat arrives raw, but the heat from the bowl slowly cooks it into the rice. The result? Flavors that absolutely burst in your mouth, with top-tier Wagyu that delivers on every level. For drinks, the bartender made me a lemon drop with Haku Vodka. I'd never tried it before, but wow--it was incredibly smooth. My friend ordered a cocktail with Roku Gin and had zero complaints. I think real alcoholics drink gin... but that's another story. Between the ambiance, amazing company, and excellent customer service, I'd absolutely recommend this spot to anyone looking to try something new. It's also perfect for an after-dinner stop or impressing out-of-town guests. This speakeasy is truly a destination. The only drawback is that the space is a bit tiny, and prices are definitely up there--but honestly, they're on par for the area. This place earns a solid 4.5 from me, but since Yelp doesn't honor half stars, I'll round it up to a 5. read more

3.5 stars! I had higher expectations based on how much they were promoted. The servers were super nice and the ambience is bigger than a small speakeasy, it's more like a cute dimly lit restaurant. Really nice ambience. Some of the food on the tasting menu was a hit but some of it was not as good. The first small bites were way too fishy for me, along with the egg tart was a weird flavor. I also didn't love the chicken sausage because the texture was off. However the nigiri was sooo good! Standouts were the salmon, toro, and hamachi. I also really loved the miso cod and the wagyu rice in the stone pot was great. The desserts were amazing! The matcha ice cream and the complimentary creme brûlée were so good. I thought I had booked the omakase experience, but realized I accidentally selected the wrong option, which was disappointing at first. They comped part of our meal, brought out desserts for my husband's birthday, and even treated me to a mocktail. It was such a thoughtful gesture and made the night feel really special. There was an era in my life where I LOVED speakeasies, cocktails, and staying out closer to the sun rise than sun set but after a couple of decades, I am the one who suggests a 5pm dinner time. Our group requested an early time for the weekend so we could have dinner elsewhere and glad we did. For us, they did not escort us up until our whole party was present (which I agree with). We got to the not so secret sauna entrance 20 minutes past our reservation time and there was no one there. We were a bit confused but after a couple of minutes we walked in and it was empty and the chefs/servers looked so confused. They asked us to step outside and wait for the hostess to escort us in... except there was no hostess in site. Another couple came back and said the same thing happened to them and they were just going to go back in. We followed them in and one of the servers just looked at us and then after a moment he said "oh, I guess I'll seat you". Not the entrance we expected but ok. We got a round of drinks, lobster crunch, kanpachi foie gras crudo, three different temakis, and mini kamameshi. Cocktails were good but I would probably hit up another cocktail bar in Fairfax for my night cap for the time being. The small plates were not bad but they were really bites and mini. Get ready to drop some serious coin if you plan on having dinner here. There was also no soap in one of the unisex bathrooms last week and last night. If you are wanting to provide a luxury experience, tending to the restrooms should not be overlooked. Granted they have Aesop hand soap and lotion in there but an empty dispenser for soap not once but two times in a span of a week was disappointing. Also when we left the hostess was there with a guy who was dressed in work out gear putting stickers by the hostess stand. They never put stickers over our phone *shrug*. Second time there was a host and "bouncer" at the door. Think it's worth checking out at least once but our experiences were a little off. I did not really want to come back a second time but felt there was lots of room for improvement and hoped my first visit was just a one off; our whole party was already in search of the next spot to visit after our 2nd round of drinks. Maybe they are still getting their bearings but I am not rushing to try to make reservations anytime soon. read more

Naisho Room, the new sister bar/speakeasy to Wren at the Watermark Hotel, is definitely one of Northern Virginia's coolest and most unique experiences! Originally they had a limited reservation "request" process & a no photo policy, but they've since changed to be more accommodating to the general public now, while still maintaining the secrecy theme~ Also they have live DJs playing music on Fridays & Saturday evenings, so that's definitely a cool touch. The food will be smaller bites, so don't expect to be having a feast. But the team behind Naisho & Wren definitely know what they're doing when it comes to seafood! We always love getting the sushi Hand Rolls & Nigiri, the Lobster Crunch was really delicious. My favorite though is the Wagyu Temamaki, a rice bowl with veggies & beef thats super savory. Of course theres also dessert & the artisan cocktails. The Creme Brulee is always my favorite dessert to get. The cocktails change seasonally but they're always well crafted, blending the flavors harmoniously! read more

The Naisho Room is a speakeasy/hidden cocktail bar located at The Watermark that has been open for about a month or so - note that it's not open for walk-ins, but you would need a special invitation from the team or solve riddles that they post on their social media to be admitted! If you're staying at The Watermark, you may have a higher chance, but not guaranteed. Chef Kim offers Japanese bar bites, such as sashimi plates and kampachi with foie gras and jalapenos; drink menu includes Japanese whiskeys, wines, sakes, and cocktails. The plates are great shareables, in which we tried some of the hand rolls, and the kamameshi truffled rice pots with wagyu. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the space was intimate, with about 40 seats or so. There are nice large windows that look over the Tysons area. I had a really good experience and disappointed about seeing reviews with pictures or complaining about the reservations system. This is purely about the experience versus food / drinks which I think a lot of DC's "speakeasies" have lost. First reservations, website says up to 21 days prior to. Key word "up to". I sent a reservation on Monday for a Thursday seating and received notification the night before I was accepted. If you do not receive an acceptance email, don't show up. Experience 10/10. I love they had to build the hotel with this concept in mind. You truly would never know there was a bar in the middle of a gym with a "trainer" at the door. It was all very cute. Why take pictures if they ask you not to? That's just lame but I digress. Food / Drink - Do not come here for dinner. This is a cute after dinner spot. Small bites ( one chicken wing had to be the craziest thing I saw... lol), and drinks in cute cups. The price was on par with DC food & drinks ($17-20 something). Overall, we had a great time. It was a bit loud but decor was on point. Quality soaps and lotions in the bathrooms. Well thought out and design. I highly recommend giving this spot a trip. read more

Don't even bother trying to come here. They have this INCREDIBLY pretentious reservation system where you can't actually make a reservation, you have to submit a request (and only up to 21 days in advance!) and they will somehow decide if you're worthy enough to be considered. I suppose I was deemed worthy, because I got an Opentable reservation confirmation for the next day, 23 hours from now, 20 days after submitting my request, long after I had completely forgotten about it. Their manufactured hype is already old, just end it and open up reservations like a normal restaurant/bar. read more

The Naisho Room, the upscale bar above Wren in Tysons, offers a sleek, exclusive vibe--with a novelty in the ambiance I won't spoil. The menu is tight (8 dishes, 2 desserts), so we ordered two of everything and tried six cocktails. Portions were tiny and not designed to satisfy. The mini kamameshi was disappointing--mushy rice in a dish meant to be crisp and flavorful. But the wagyu toast and sushi taco rolls (served in plastic "condoms") were fun and tasty. If you're after out-of-this-world cocktails, I still think D.C. has better speakeasies and food options. For the price point, I was underwhelmed--but still had a good time. With time, the menu could be polished and serving sizes adjusted. Overall recommended--just don't expect to get in easily during peak hours. read more

From the beginning there was racial profiling at Wren from the hostesses when trying to get into the Naisho Room when I asked to be buzzed up. I was dressed nice and my guy friend (both of us black) he had on nice jeans no holes but had tattoos and necklace chain dress shirt and a hat. I said im a walk in. The host asked for a reservation and I said I dont have one. Then she said let me check and asked i guess the bar manager at wren and said there is no space for walk ins right now bc Naisho is full. I said we can sit at the bar and supposedly the host calls and said there is no seating. I walk away go outside and check open table online and there is a reservation so I book it. I go back to the wren hosts and say I thought I said there are no more seats I have a reservation now and then they let us up. Get up to Naisho the person doing the check in asks my black male friend to take off his hat yet we walk in and Naisho only have like less than 10 people in there and the bar seats were completely empty so we were lied to and on top of that my black male friend is told to take off his hat yet two white males are wearing their hats in the restaurant. This is straight up discrimination. read more

I should have read the reviews before I took my lady and some friends there for her birthday. The mystery quickly ended when we entered a super bright "speak easy" style restaurant, bar, or what ever this place is supposed to be. But after looking at each other with questions, we decided to go in with an open mind. Our waiter knew nothing about the food and the sake. He described the Sake as, and I quote: "there is a lotta rice going on in there"! He then disappeared for the rest of the night and finally (after repeated inquiries for the check) came back with the check apologizing and said that he transitioned to the bar! Wow! The DJ played monotone sub-par house music. The food was good, but Dear Management, it's about creating an experience. Well, we had none! We left hungry and disappointed only an hour after our reservation and got lucky to get a table at Green House where we enjoyed delicious food. I like the Wren a lot, but this place couldn't disappoint more. Oh, and the Beluga Caviar we ordered never arrived. Good experience, not sure I feel the need to go back given how difficult it is to get in. It was a little bright when we got there, it didn't feel as "exclusive" when we got inside for that reason. But it's nicely decorated, not a huge space but it doesn't feel crammed or anything. The food selection is sparser than I was expecting. I was also anticipating a lot more sushi related items on the menu. Most of the sushi is limited to hand rolls (Temaki) which were yummy. We also got lobster crunch and shishito peppers, and these were not memorable at all. For dessert we got Miso Mochi Churros which were delicious. If meh was a restaurant/speakeasy bar this might just be it. I'll admit, I got sucked into the 'exclusive' invite aspect of their online presence. A buddy got in a few weeks before I did... he wouldn't say much until I had been there... We both agreed... not worth going back to. Wren offers better downstairs. The reservation system is garbage. A small, high-end, Tokyo-inspired bar in a Tyson's Corner high-rise hotel, with tapas and sushi, and a beautiful view. The gimmick - shhh! - It's a secretive speakeasy with a camouflaged entrance. The cocktails were excellent, food delicious, and staff attentive. Want a selfie? Don't expect to see much from the Naisho Room on Instagram or TikTok. I attempted to request to get access to The Naisho Room on a Tuesday looking for Saturday booking via their website. No confirmation on if my request was even received. No big deal I'll wait a couple of days. Fast forward a couple days, still no word, so I filled out the Contact Us request from their website. Again no response or confirmation that they even got that. Fast forward to Saturday, feeling anxious I called in the morning. No answer so I left a voicemail to call me back... I'm just trying to figure out if it's a Yes or a No, just acknowledge and tell me either way... bc some people try to plan things.
