My wife, daughter, and I visited the Syn on a warm July 4th evening. We planned to catch the fireworks downtown from a comfortable location. We were too far away to do that, but we could see the Herndon and Vienna displays and one or two others. Parking is free in the underground garage on evenings and weekends. An elevator ride to the lobby and another elevator ride to the 16th floor deposit syou at the host stand. We arrived around 7 p.m. with our reservation and were seated at an inside table near one of the glass garage doors that were opened for the evening. Our table could seat six, but the stools barely fit under it. There was a nice breeze blowing in, and the views were fantastic. The view is primarily to the East, but you can walk inside for Western sunsets and mountain views around the neighboring buildings. Our server was friendly and gave us recommendations from the one-page menu. We ordered the hummus, which came with six pieces of pita and some unsmashed chickpeas on the creamy hummus itself. The three of us loved that dish. We also got the truffle fries, which were very addictive to eat. Dunking the fries in the hummus was also an option we enjoyed. For drinks, my daughter and I got a beer on tap while my wife got a lemon gimlet and later a cosmo prepared at their full-service bar. The beers were served nice and cold, while my wife's Cosmo was the clear favorite of her two drinks. We hung out for about three hours, enjoying the views, the fireworks, and the breezes. I doubt we will return next Independence Day, but we will if we are in the area and need a break. read more

I stopped in Syn on a Wednesday evening on a whim while in the area. My friend wanted to check it out because we were nearby. When we reached the roof I was pleasantly surprised with the bright expansive space. We were greeted by. Friendly hostess who said we could get a table on the rooftop, a table or sit at the bar. There was plenty of space and normally I would have chosen the roof but it had been raining that day so we went for the bar. The bartender greeted us when we sat down, gave us the rundown of the drinks and we ordered their version of the espresso martini. The drinks were well made. They weren't too busy mostly people staying at the hotel but the food looked good and the staff were friendly. My friend and I Amy return sometime this summer on a weekend. My boyfriend had pre reserved a table for us + our friend and specifically adjusted it to be outdoors for 8:30. We arrived at 8:37 as we had never been here before and had to park and find which building this rooftop was in. Once we talked to the host she seemed conflicted when we said we had a reservation outside. She then proceeded to tell us she doesn't have any tables available outside but can seat us inside (a waiting table area...). We waited about 5 minutes and she gave us a table outside. This was the first red flag. We had RESERVED a table outside to begin with and were told it wasn't an option... that can't be since it was under a reservation so apparently reservations do not matter here. We get seated outside a waitress came out to take drink orders and we ordered 3 cocktails nothing more. It took us 15 minutes to receive these drinks. The restaurant was not crazy busy but if a place is short staff i understand, then communicate this to customers. However, nothing was communicated to us otherwise. Our waitress eventually came back around to take food order and we ordered one charcuterie board and a dish that has lamb and another sort of meat, that's it. 20 minutes go by we flag down the waitress to say we are still waiting on our food she then said she would check on it. It then had been over 40 minutes and NO WORD or UPDATE on our food. Second red flag to us. As the customer, we had to 1. wait that long and 2. had to go and flag our waitress down in order to get an update. Otherwise she had passed our table several times. When we proceeded to flag her down finally we requested to cancel our order she said "are you sure? How about another round of drinks" we said absolutely not just the check she said "okay I'll get that". Not even offering to go back and double check for us but instead insisting for us to ORDER more DRINKS?! As I've said I understand being short staff and such but the restaurant was not crazy busy and I saw many people get food delivered to tables. With that, nothing otherwise was communicated to us as the customer just so we could simply know and be of understanding. So no, I do not understand nor appreciate the lack of care nor proper service we had received with us being there for the first time. Such a disappointing experience. read more

I had such a great experience at Syn Restaurant on the rooftop of the AC Hotel Reston for private company outing-- it honestly exceeded all expectations. The views were breathtaking, and the vibe was both chic and welcoming -- the perfect setting for a relaxed but special outing. The food and drinks were incredible. Everything I tried was full of flavor and beautifully presented -- the salmon dish and chocolate mousse especially stood out for me. You can tell the culinary team puts real care into every detail. 3.5 - the ambience and view was spectacular. But, as others have mentioned, the food is okay. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail were a bit waterlogged (i.e., I think they were thawed too rapidly, left in water too long, etc.) The deviled eggs were good though. The cocktails were decent. But if you are here for the vibes and the views, it's great. We had fun, and I'll definitely come back, but I think they need to hire more staff and re-work the menu a bit (the staff did great, they seemed a bit understaffed). read more

Finally got around to visit this amazing rooftop bar!! We went on a Monday late afternoon, so not busy when we got there, but steadily got busier as the evening arrived! We only stopped by for a drink...or two, so can't comment on the food. From the moment we stepped off the elevator, we were greeted by friendly faces. There were two bartenders, a male and a female, and I think a trainee, and I wish I had remembered their names, because they deserve a shout out!! Not only good drinks, but great conversation! We loved the cocktail and food menu, the ambiance and the charming, super attentive service team regularly checking back to ensure we had everything we wanted and needed. They had us at rooftop view and comfy couch where we could sip, nibble and cuddle, but further impressed with the delicious and inventive small plates including buratta adorned with tomato compote and peas that tasted fresh from a garden and delicious slices of tuna tataki that tasted as rich as sashimi Toro. The cocktails were similarly creative and delicious, such as a banana flavored old fashioned with a bit of banana bread on top for my husband and for me the gin lavender empress cocktail was perfectly tart and sweet for a gin lover. Steps away from the Reston Town Center metro, Syn is the rooftop of the newly opened AC Marriott. We had reservations and were seated right away. On a Friday HH, the patio not yet open, the inside was packed. For the DC-like pricetags on the cocktails, the service is pretty slow. It is still deemed to be brand new, and I am hopeful that this spot will catch up for warmer weather for nice views (almost 180 degrees) outside. read more

Hot new rooftop restaurant bar in Reston! We did a mom's night out here, and enjoyed the ambiance and food! The menu's not large but it's tapas style so good for sharing. The fries were delicious!! The waitress shared that they'll be expanding their menu soon over the upcoming months so I'm looking forward to going back especially as the weather warms up! Bottom line up front: 1.5 hours for an overpriced, watered down drink. NO VIEW IS WORTH THIS! From the time we sat down, until we had our drinks, was over a 40 min wait. When they finally arrived they were very watered down. We ordered 1 appetizer and it came out 20 mins before our drinks and was put on our table with no silverware or small plates. It took us another 10 mins to find someone to ask for at least a napkin. Getting our check was ridiculously hard. We asked after our drinks arrived because we had been there almost an hour and were done with the incredibly bad service. It took another 20 min to get the check and then we had to go hunt for someone to take our credit card after another 10 min wait. I so wanted to love this place. I recently visited Syn Rooftop Bar after seeing it recommended on social media and was excited to treat my cousin to appetizers and drinks. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected. Last Thursday night, my cousin and I had appetizers and drinks at the bar. Shortly after leaving the restaurant--about 10 minutes into our drive--my cousin became ill. We had to stop at a nearby restaurant immediately so she could use the restroom. Later that evening, I also began experiencing stomach cramps and digestive issues. My cousin spent most of the night in the bathroom and was unable to go to work the next day. While my symptoms were not as severe, I still had a very uncomfortable night and had to get up multiple times. This was not the experience we anticipated, and were disappointed. read more

it was our first visit. beautiful ambiance, convenient location and easy parking . loved the view from the roof top.Cocktails are good , food is OK to me. The grilled calamari was so charred that it tasted little bitter. fries were nothing to write home about and extremely expensive. The menu has very few choices to choose from. The place wasn't busy, but our waitress was slow and rude, and it only got worse as the night went on. She eventually spilled drinks all over my guest's dress, didn't apologize, and just walked away. Later she came back "here are some towels." The food ok, the drinks were mid, but the fact that the staff acted like nothing happened...no. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. read more

We were so excited to try this brunch spot, but unfortunately it turned out to be one of the worst dining experiences we have ever had. We ordered the salmon eggs Benedict and asked to substitute the salmon with bacon because our grandmother cannot have salmon. The server said the substitution was fine and never mentioned that we would be charged for both items, yet when the check arrived we were charged for both the salmon and the bacon. When we raised the issue, the manager, Mitch, was extremely disrespectful and dismissive toward my family and refused to correct the bill, even though the mistake was not ours and we were charged for something we never ordered. This type of behavior and refusal to make things right reflects very poorly on the restaurant, and we were shocked and embarrassed by the way we were treated. Went there last night Thursday 7/10 and had no problem securing a table on oUtdoor patio with no reservation. Host and servers were good and nice. Server was good, explained things well and overall good service. The ambiance both in/out were nice. Why 2 stars on my review then. The drink quality and prices do not match. I don't mind paying $12-16 for cocktails but they should be better quality and tasting than what i can make at home. My companion and I ordered 3 mojitos( not good) empress gin (ok) smoked mezcal(awful) honey gin drink( best of bunch , i had 3 of these) . The food for the price awful for amount charged. Calamari was ok. Deviled eggs, wagyu sliders,( bland unseasoned ground regular beef though thick was awful) tzetke beef/lamb was ok but dry. The food comes from same chef restaurant seven downstairs which also must be not very good. I would come back simply for the view, 1 beer not cocktail and a quick conversation for rooftop experience but go have appetizers and entrees and cocktails elsewhere for better prepared meal for the price. read more
