We were looking to grab a quick bite and really glad we came across Open Road. The restaurant has a lot of good vibes with fun music and excellent customer service. We were seated right away and the servers were very friendly. We didn't have to wait for anything which was greatly appreciated. Whether it was ordering drinks, refilling water, and even checking out, the entire experience was top notch. The food was freshly prepared and packed with flavor. The fish tacos were paired with a fresh slaw and came with rice and beans. The portions were very generous so make sure you are hungry. The steak spaghetti was surprisingly well balanced and packed with flavor despite looking pretty basic with a few pieces of steak. Really looking forward to coming back again! read more

This was my first visit to the Reston location, though I recently ate at Open Road in Arlington. Bottom line: it's pretty much the same experience. The free popcorn still isn't good or all that enjoyable, service can be hit or miss, drinks are expensive, and the food is very good. The Reston location does have plenty of large TVs, making it a solid place to catch a game. This was a guys' night out for food and drinks, but it's probably not going to become a regular meetup spot when a couple of easy changes could make a big difference. First, get rid of the popcorn, it's honestly laughable. Second, bring the drink prices down. A Wild Turkey and Coke shouldn't cost $14. We started with something to share. My biggest concern was value for the price, and the menu only had a few appetizers that felt both shareable and reasonably priced. The Bavarian Pretzel was good, although I wasn't a fan of the mustard dip. At $10, it's a decent value for two or three people. The chili nachos were tasty, but $18 is just too much for what you get. Even if they doubled the chips and chili, I'd still think they were overpriced by a couple of dollars. I'll definitely give them credit for the entrées. On my last visit I had the jambalaya, which was excellent. This time I ordered the Peruvian-spiced half chicken, and it was fantastic. I ended up spending almost $100. I had a good time and enjoyed the food, but Open Road has moved into my "splurge" category rather than my monthly hangout spot. Our server may have been new because service was slow, and the kitchen was also taking a long time to get food out, especially for a Friday night. I'm giving the Reston location four stars, just like Arlington. The food was tasty, I had a good time, and I'd come back, ... but.... the little things, especially the drink prices, lopsided menu pricing, and inconsistent service, keep it from being one of my spontaneous go-to spots. read more

My brother was in town with my niece and his wife and we chose to meet here because it was about halfway between my home and their hotel. It's been 5ish years since I've been to RTC so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. This restaurant is caddy corner from a garage that is FREE on weekends! There are lots of tvs, a game room, and children's menus with crayons. Our server was nice but service was very slow. My SIL had the bruschetta app, which was much larger than an app portion, my brother had the Peruvian chicken, and I had the crispy Cobb salad. All of us really enjoyed our meals! We had a reservation which I do recommend. Afterwards dinner make sure to do a loop around where all the lights are and the fountain-very aesthetically pleasing for a relaxing stroll! read more

Open Road in Reston is part of the Metropolitan Hospitality Group that has restaurants such as Trio, Circa, Salt. We certainly enjoy the food at all their restaurants and always had great service at all locations. Open Road serve American cuisine and have brunch items on their menu. Popcorn is served free when you sit and they're generous on refilling if you want. Good food at reasonable prices as well as one of the best burgers in the DMV area. My brother came in town and we took him to Heirloom to enjoy a few cocktails but instead bought a few bottles of bourbon. Then we went to the restaurant for cocktails and dinner. Ambiance was relaxed but upper scale. Very clean, no smells, nothing sticky. Our waitress Ciera. She was Extremely nice and knowledgeable. I hope she is considered a model because she was EXCELLENT! We ordered a meat lovers pizza, jambalaya, half chicken with fries- all were delicious. While we waited we enjoyed old fashioned cocktails, popcorn and some wonderful conversation because we could hear each other although the basketball game was being shown on several screens. Open Road is our go-to spot for when we want to keep things more casual, and maybe catch some of the latest sporting events. Our favorite thing to order is the wings, they're always done exactly as we ordered. Some of our other regular dishes are the chicken fajitas and the spinach salad with grilled chicken. My biggest regret about dinner here was that I did not have the opportunity to go into the tasting room to sample some of their liquors. That said, everything else about my group's dinner was just about perfect. The atmosphere was fun, including great music. Service was on point. Their crafted cocktails, using their own products, were delicious. The food came out quickly and was quite tasty. The spice combo on my Peruvian chicken dinner was amazing, and the dressing on the salad which accompanied it complemented those flavors well. Everyone else at the table raved equally about their dinners and appetizers. It's great when a distillery can produce both exceptional foods and drinks. This place is great! The main restaurant is very large and able to accommodate large groups. There is a small tasting room for you to sample their bourbon, rye, vodka, and gin. They make an amazing maple old-fashioned. Their menu is extensive and the food is quite delicious. The staff is incredible! First time at Open Road. Upon entering there was a cool vibe like a sports bar with lots of TVs. Arrived at 440pm on Saturday. Quite a few people here but not packed by any means. The young seater proceeds to seat us in a section with 9 empty tables, completely removed from the rest of the restaurant. Weird choice on her part. Husband can see the rest of restaurant/tvs in his view. I can see a wall column and windows. ‍ Server was super laid back. Ordered the Open Table burger with fries and the French onion burger with sweet potato fries as well as a take out order. Server opted to put the take out order in once our food came. Burgers came out quickly. They were cooked just as requested. Food was ok.. nothing special Server kind of disappeared so drink refills were hard to come by. I think because we were so far away from all of his other tables it made it difficult for him to get back to us. Manager (?) came by and offered to refill drinks and bring a box. Great atmosphere (5 ): High ceiling, open concept with an industrial look. All wooden tables with a combination of high tops and regular 4-person tables, plus a few luxurious looking booths on one side. Bar towards the back with multiple TV with sports channels playing. There is a whiskey tasting room, a game room, and another standing room only bar. We were just there on a Friday night and there was a solo live performance. Not too loud as the place is large enough to absorb the sound, and I was still able to carry a conversation. Great vibes! Food (4 ) Regular bar menu items. Good selection of local beers. Everything is delicious, portion on the small side - We had the Jambalaya and Steak Frites; an old fashioned and a couple beers. Landed up in this restaurant by chance. It is a distillery I suppose. So was surprised that the inside is family friendly with nice decor and a large dining area. The menu is quite elaborate. I love coming to Open Road to grab a drink. The bar area is rather big and it's a nice place to meet up with people. They have some creative cocktails and decent assortment of beer on draft. They do have a happy hour menu, but it's not a huge cost savings. I like the complimentary popcorn in the bar area. The dining room is rather large and accommodates families and groups (just make sure you get a reservation). The menu is on the larger side, so easy to find something everyone will enjoy. Food can be a bit slow to come out at times. The food and drinks are always consistent. There is a tasting room, but the hours vary, so be sure to double check when they are open and available. You'll need a reservation as well. Don't get this confused with the "speakeasy" located in the back of the restaurant. Heirloom is incredible!! Amazing creative and complex cocktails and maybe one of the best burgers I've ate! read more

I gave open road another shot after one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in recent memory and truthfully- while at least my food was actually cooked this time- it just wasn't good. It's hard to pit my finger on it exactly why. I had the pizza which tasted like a frozen pizza from Costco. My server was fine but pretty low level of enthusiasm- like he was just going through the motions. My date's fried chicken sandwich was bland and hot on the bun and warm in the Pattie- which meant it was sitting under a heat lamp. All of that aside the place just has no soul at all. read more

Open Road Mosaic has been our local watering hole for 4+ years now. We LOVE the service, the food, the cocktails, the live music and the overall ambiance. You always know what you are going to get and it is ALWAYS consistent. We learned about the Reston location because we love the old fashion and found out the the whisky was distilled in Reston so we knew we had to check it out. We went on a Sunday for the Commanders game and were sad in a semi private wing with lots of windows and natural light which was perfect for our large party with two kids. The vibes were similar to the Mosaic location, clean, cozy and lots of TVs! We had a grazing day. We ordered the nachos, sweet potato fries, brussels sprouts, birria quesadilla, brunch burger, and fig pizza. All of these items were delicious and reminiscent of the Mosaic location! One item that we received and were disappointed in was the loaded baked potato soup. It came out cold and was just meh. Will not repeat order. Overall, we loved the experience though I will say, we prefer the staff at Open Road Mosaic! That said, we will be back! read more

I've been to this spot twice now and both experiences were really positive. The cocktails are really good and the space itself is nice, not too cramped. I've tried the steak frites, the calamari, the chicken wings, and the burger and fries and all of them are delicious. The one downside to this place is that on both visits, it was noticeable that the waiter/waitress was either swamped and covering a lot of tables or they just didn't check in that often. Had lunch here. The ambiance was nice and the place was large and roomy. The business was a little slow for a Thursday afternoon. I sat at the bar and the tender was extremely attentive. Had the "open road burger" and it was very good. Prepared to order at medium rare. I would only say it was a little too large and stuffed. I could barely take a bite. The house fries were good with a fair amount of salt. This place looks like it could be a winner when you're looking to watch that big game. This place opened very recently. Usually, we give new places time to get their act together. However, when talking with my hairstylist, she said she had come here for a meal and thought that they had their act together already. Well...we were here on a Saturday around 5 p.m. and we have to say that they still have some kinks to work out. We did come here without a reservation. However, the young woman at the host stand said they could seat us in about 10 to 20 minutes. Even though we were sitting mere feet away from her, she insisted on getting our phone number in order to text us when our table was ready. We gave her the info but in the end, she just walked over to where we were sitting and told us our table would be ready in "2 minutes", which it was. Some things to note --- the place is very loud, so loud that you have to shout to have a conversation. Acoustics are terrible and the place is cavernous. The one up side to all of this---when families come with little kids, no one notices when they get loud. They also have an arcade with various games but we didn't investigate. After we got seated and given menus, our server came by. He asked for our drink order. My husband wanted a lite beer and it took 3 tries before they found a brand that was in stock. I tried a mixed drink called "life is bueno". It consists of: "Camareno Resposado tequila, housemade blood orange shrub, agave, lime, Angostura orange bitters". It turned out to be a decent drink---not too sweet, not too bitter. Here's when things started to go sideways...We decided to get an appetizer and chose "Heirloom tomato bruschetta" which consists of: "heirloom cherry tomatoes, marinated mozzarella , basil pesto, garlic grand rustico". We assumed our server left to enter our order. When he returned, we ordered our main courses. I chose the "French onion burger" which consists of: "gruyere cheese, carmelized onions, crispy onions, brioche bun, steak sauce, aioli, handcut fries". My husband ordered Shrimp + grits" which consists of: "blackened shrimp, stone ground cheddar grits, andouille sausage, roasted peppers, corn, baby spinach". With our entire order now given, we waited...and waited. The drinks came out quickly but most of the wait time was for the food. When the food came out, the entrees showed up. My husband asked the runner what happened to our appetizer. He said he would check. After that, the appetizer showed up. We asked our server what happened as the appetizer should have come out long before the entrees. He said he would talk to the manager. Then he returned to say the appetizer would be comped. Now...try eating an appetizer while your main course is there---no fun. As for the food --- My husband said his dish was okay. He was surprised to see that the tails were left on the shrimp and he said the grits were on the runny side. Also, we noticed that the meal wasn't well plated. As for me, I did like my burger. It was cooked medium as I asked. However, there were no crispy onions which would have given the burger that nice element of crunchiness. I was impressed that the brioche bun held up very well as I ate the burger. The fries arrived piping hot. However, there were far too many of them so I only ate a few. As for the appetizer, we didn't think that cherry tomatoes work well with a bruschetta but they were ripe and flavorful. The mozzarella was cut into tiny cubes and there wasn't enough of it. The bread was basically 4 slices of toast. All this was smothered in balsamic vinaigrette. When the check came, no one took off the appetizer. We told the server and then the manager came out and apologized. He said the mix up was the server's fault. Then he corrected our check to reflect the comped item was removed. So...they are still working out the kinks. Our experience had us wondering if the servers were properly trained. Hopefully, that will be corrected. As an aside, they have a restaurant inside the restaurant called "Heirloom". Their menu is more upscale and the items all look good if pricier. We are interested in eventually giving Heirloom a try but not for quite a while yet. If you do go to Open Road or Heirloom, be sure to make a reservation. After we were about to be seated, the hosts were telling large parties that there was a 2 hour wait! Needless to say, no one got on the list for that, instead they left. Good food and a fun environment. I enjoyed my experience at Open Road Distilling, there was a lively atmosphere and the restaurant had a very nice layout. The food was good with plenty of options. I got the "Open Road Burger" which I enjoyed. I also did the tasting in their tasting room. While I wasn't a big fan of all of the different alcohols, it was a very enjoyable experience and the staff were great. There were a few hiccups during the night, like someone ordered a Heineken (as shown on the menu) but the restaurant only had Heineken Zero, but no major issues. The restaurant has a lot of seating, a large bar area and what looked like semi-private side rooms. There are also some arcade games in a room and some TVs around the restaurant. All of this adds to the lively atmosphere created by the staff and the other restaurant patrons. Overall, I would describe Open Road Distilling as an upscale sports bar with a distillery and tasting room. It's a nice clean restaurant and a great place to go with friends or family for a casual evening. read more

Instead of bread and butter they serve popcorn but I will say it was a bit stale. They do have a tasting room for whiskey. I ordered the birria quesadilla and a drink. I wish the quesadilla had more meat in it. It was really thin and even though I expected it to fall apart but it was mostly tortilla and little meat. I think the tortilla was a corn tortilla.
