Barcelona was hands down the best meal we had during our time in Reston. We were lucky enough to sit out on the patio, enjoy some great weather, and have an outstanding dining experience from start to finish. Our server, Maria, absolutely made the night. She was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and struck that perfect balance of checking in without hovering. Great service can elevate a meal, and Maria did exactly that. The food was excellent. The paella was delicious, the patatas bravas were flavorful, and both the pork belly and bacon-wrapped dates were standouts. The sangria was also fantastic and paired perfectly with the meal. Now, I've had Spanish food in places where it's a little more authentic and refined, so this wasn't necessarily the best Spanish food I've ever had. But considering we're in Virginia, Barcelona absolutely exceeded expectations. I've been wanting to try Barcelona Wine Bar for a little while and am happy I got the opportunity too! Barcelona Wine Bar serves a variety of authentic Spanish tapas and plates along with a large wine selection. My mom and I were super excited to dine here as we both love a good tapas meal! The restaurant is in a great area but you do have to pay for parking (they should validate your parking though). The interior is lovely and the ambiance is unique with a rustic-chic vibe. The service was good and our server was attentive. She offered us some guidance on the menu and some recommendations as well. The workers did a great job grabbing finished plates off tables and were super friendly. Some of our food took longer to come out, specifically the charcuterie board. Each table starts with fresh, warm bread and Spanish olive oil. Some tables got balsamic vinegar added to their oil, but we didn't. They do offer refills for the bread as well. For tapas styled dinners it is recommended to order a couple of plates at once for the table to share. We started with the Aperitivo Board which included an Jamón Serrano, Chorizo Soria, Idiazábal, Manchego, Eggplant Caponata, House Marinated Olives, Pickled Guindilla Peppers, and Patatas Brava. This was a huge board with a little bit of everything. Ordering this allows you to try some charcuterie and tapas at once for a great price. The meats were lovely and the Manchego cheeses were bold. Both paired well with the olives too. The eggplant caponata had a slight sweetness to it, which I liked. And the patatas bravas were easily some of the best I've had. The crema atop of them was to die for, these are a must order! Like I stated above, our board took a while to come out. This wasn't a huge deal, but it definitely took longer than it should have and I wish our server had checked in on us during that period. Next, we order the beet salad, albondigas, and the jamón & manchego croquetas. These dishes arrived quicker and all came around the same time. The beet salad consisted of pickled beets with a Skordalia garlic spread on the bottom. The sweetness of the beets complimented the Skordalia nicely. The albondigas included 5 Spiced Meatballs in Jamón-Tomato Sauce. With a little bit of a kick to them, these meatballs were fantastic! The sauce was extremely flavorful and I thoroughly enjoyed these. Lastly, the jamón & manchego croquetas which were served with the same garlic aioli that was atop the patatas bravas. These were rich and really creamy with lots of manchego. The breading was light on the outside and the inside was packed with mostly manchego and some jamón. I didn't like these as much as I thought I would, but they are definitely worth a try. Overall, all the food was amazing and we both really enjoyed our meal. The service was decent and I thought they did a good job taking care of us. They are very friendly and will help you navigate the menu if needed. The interior is such a vibe and I really loved the ambiance. While our charcuterie seemed to take a while to come out, all the other food arrived promptly. Everything is served made to order and arrive hot to your table. The Aperitivo Board is definitely the best bang for your buck. It's been a while since I came here, but I LOVE Barcelona! The happy hour deals are pretty good. I wish they had more wine options on the happy hour menu specifically red wine. The service was great, our waitress and fast, kind, and checked in with our group the perfect amount of times. The food was all amazing. They're fairly small portions so you do end up spending quite a bit, but the quality is great! If you want the paella you have to order right when you arrive cause it's 30 mins to 45 mins for them to cook it. Barcelona Reston delivers a strong tapas experience with a few minor misses. The menu has a great variety, and overall the food quality is impressive. The standout for me was the patatas bravas--perfectly crispy potatoes paired with a spectacular garlic aioli. The truffle sheep's cheese was also outstanding, rich and flavorful, although the truffle honey didn't quite deliver on its promise--I could barely taste the truffle. It also only came with one slice of toasted bread, but thankfully the bread service helped stretch the dish (and even then, there was still cheese left over). The spiced beef empanadas were nicely crisp and satisfying. The grilled octopus, however, was just okay--slightly over-charred, which made it hard to fully appreciate the flavor. On the other hand, the paella salvaje was excellent, loaded with chicken, gaucho sausage, pork belly, chickpeas, and pickled onions. Definitely a must-order--but be sure to put it in early since it takes a while to prepare. For dessert, the flan catalan was a great finish--not overly sweet and nicely balanced. The wine list is another highlight, with plenty of good options available by the glass. We ordered the paella first and followed it with four tapas, which ended up being plenty of food for four people. Pricing came out to about $45 per person before tip, which felt reasonable for the quality and quantity. The interior has a warm, stylish vibe with lots of wood and dark tones, though it does feel a bit cramped--tables and booths are quite close together, and it can get pretty loud. The salpicón de mariscos tasted so refreshing as it resembled a mix between a seafood salad without the greens and ceviche followed by a garlicky gambas (shrimp) al ajillo. So, I went to Barcelona tonight. Not the city, but the restaurant. While there's still La Corrida in Spain even today, this restaurant is no bull. It's a tapas restaurant (careful how you say that...so watch your diction), thus the proper way to eat is to order a bottle of wine, take your time, and graze. So that's exactly what I did. All for you, dear reader. Nothing selfish about the experience at all. I ordered a lovely Chilean wine right away and got to work. First up was the Patatas Bravas. The potatoes were crisp, flavorful, and fluffy inside - just like me. The bed of salsa was a simple but tasty tomato sauce. The dressing was a killer garlic aioli. It was "lick the spoon good." And be careful who you say that to! Next up was the chicken canelones. Wrapped in a delicious crepe, it had foie gras and a hint of cinnamon or nutmeg or something autumnal that I couldn't quite be sure of, but it was delicious. There was more spoon lickin' (and that's not a euphemism). I followed that with the flank steak in chimichurri. It was a little chewy, although it definitely seemed marinated which would tenderize it. The chimichurri was as good as I had in Argentina (RIP Evita). They could have tenderized the steak a bit more though, so maybe they should pound their meat (and that's definitely a euphemism). But I'm a harsh critic. It was a great dish and the flavor was awesome. Side note, they brought bread to the table early on, which I neglected. I ended up having it with the flank steak and that was perfect. No spoon licking here, but I sopped up the last of the chimichurri with the bread and I'm glad I did. I felt bad that the bread was as lonely as I was for most of the evening, although I'm glad it was saving itself. Also, I asked about the bread and it is locally baked in Arlington. Delicious. So, don't let your bread loaf. Eat it up! Other than the potatoes, the hot dishes were a little cool when they came out and the music was too loud...this ain't a night club! There was a lot of over the top "boots and pants" over the loudspeaker. It was unfortunately a bit too much. If I had been on a date, I would have needed to use sign language to communicate with my beautiful lady. Other than that, great ambiance. Perfect lighting, nice decor, very tasteful, natural materials. Speaking of boots and pants, the white collar people watching was highly entertaining. Full of DC intrigue and wannabes. There was some real House of Cards action going on. And I can neither confirm nor deny that they were filming "The Real Housewive of Reston" while I was there. Anthropological considerations aside, make sure you get dessert, too. I had the Olive Cake and it was exquisite. Ever so slightly crisp exterior, moist and flavorful inside, toasty warm, a little sweet but not overly sweet, great texture and mouth feel, absolutely perfect execution. Paired with a Dulce sherry which was great. My only recommendation would be that the olive cake would have been well complemented by a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream or even a little Crème Fraiche, both for taste and presentation. But, I niggle, as I do. They use obviously very high quality ingredients all the way around in all the dishes. And every dish was extremely well conceived and designed. Great flavors from end to end. My compliments to their Executive Chef. Chef's kiss! It's also worth mentioning that they have a fabulous wine selection with over 400 bottles. Also, my server, Emily was totally awesome. Barcelona is one of my favorite restaurants in the Reston towncenter. The food, the wine, the service, the ambiance are all top shelf! I went on a Friday and, not surprisingly, it was very busy. Come early or make reservations in order to get a table. They have a wide variety of tapas/small plates as well as some larger entrees. All the food and wine is so good! My new favorite item is the goat cheese but the 4 meat board is a must if you're with friends! From the start, our server Enzo went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of.
