They even had some weird options that I was tempted to try but I went for a more traditional flight (although I definitely want to return for the coffee whisky). The only option I wasn't in love with was the smokehouse, but that's just a personal preference. After my tasting I learned they were doing some kind of slushys as well, so I got one of those. We had just had lunch a few storefronts away and decided to stop in to see if we could try some of their products. They offer tours (free, on the hour, lasting about 30 minutes) or a tasting and tour experience (for a nominal fee and lasting about an hour), but we just stopped in to try a few of their products. I really appreciated that they offer flights or single tastings, too. I was the driver for the day, so I just wanted to try one or two products, but my friend did their cocktail flight (which gets changed up seasonally). I enjoyed a .05 oz pour of one of their brandies and their Hot Butter Rye cocktail. They make whiskey, rye whiskey, brandy, and more. The tasting room had plenty of space (we sat at the bar, but they have plenty of tables, too). The staff were really friendly, and it was just a great, comfortable place to enjoy a few drinks!

They have spirit-forward as well as citrusy. Never had one I didn't like. The spirits (as of this writing, still available at some local liquor shops) are fantastic. My absolute favorite is the Lady Anne white rum. Some white rums are barely better than rbbing alcohol, but this has character and depth and makes a fantastic mojito. RIP Lost Ark!

He took the time to explain everything in detail, which gave a great appreciation for how much goes into making their bourbon. After the tour, we had the opportunity to taste several of their bourbons, which was definitely a highlight. We had a bit of time to browse the store before the tour started. The tour was about an hour and included a free tasting. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and led us through the history of Virginia's oldest distillery. He was a bit hard to understand and talked VERY fast, which made it tough to absorb much of the info. However, for a free activity I enjoyed it. The best part of course was the tasting at the end. We were led through how to taste the spirits and given water and crackers as palate cleansers. We tried one of their gins, two bourbons, and the caramel bourbon cream liqueur. The bourbon cream was delicious and so smooth! I really liked the gin as well. We all ended up buying at least one bottle, so I'd say it was a success.
