In need of a quick beer and brunch, my family and I visited Crooked Run in Sterling on an early Sunday morning. The brewery, much like most others in NoVA, is located in an industrial park. The space is divided into two main bars/taprooms along with some outdoor tables. The brewery also houses three restaurant concepts: a NY style pizza shop, a biscuit kitchen, and an outpost of Senor Ramon taqueria. We opted to get food from Daybreak Biscuit given our early visit. We found the biscuit sandwiches here decent if not unremarkable. The biscuits themselves had a light and flaky texture, but the fillings themselves lacking a little flavor and finesse. It's an option for brunch at the brewery itself, though I would not go out of my way to eat there specifically. In contrast, the tacos at Senor Ramon as well as the pies at J and J pizza looked great, so we may attempt those next time. Of course, we visited Crooked Run primarily for the beer, and we enjoyed our brews. My wife is a sour fanatic and highly enjoyed both varieties she tried among the numerous sour taps on offer. I also enjoyed my IPA which paired well with our biscuit brunch. Prices for pours are par for the area, and we found the service friendly. All told, we will return for the beers and (maybe) one of the other food options. Crooked Run earns a solid four stars for now, pending trials of more brews. read more

I love that place! My family and I have enjoyed the food and drinks every time we have visited. I recently had churros that were drizzled in chocolate. I also had the sweet sticky rice and mango beer and watermelon chili lemon sour and both were fantastic and refreshing. The service was great. No complaints! I highly recommend this place. read more

Super close spot by the WO&D trail, so a great pit stop when you do a bike ride. That's how a friend and I ended up here. We loved their stouts. They do now have a satellite location in Union Market in DC, but something about coming out here and also getting the Senor Ramon tacos always make it so worth it. Crooked Run also shares this space in addition to Senor Ramon Taqueria, Nectar Cocktail bar, J&J Pizza, and Daybreak Kitchen & Biscuit. It's almost like a mini food hall. A lot of good options for a bigger party if you don't want to bike here and gives people different options to choose from. There are some odd hours, so make sure you check the restaurant times before coming. I also loved the art for their different beers. I loved their stouts but wasn't a huge fan of the Blacklight Berliner Weisse, which was almost like a sour, but in my opinion was a bit too sweet, but good for someone who doesn't like too beer-y of a taste. read more

We stopped by for post-hike beers and this place was so much fun! They have live music every Saturday and you can sit outside or inside. It's sort of like a self serve mini food hall where you can choose to order at the beer counter, a taco counter, or a pizza counter and pick up the food when ur buzzer they give you is ready. The loaded nachos are exceptional, and the tacos were out of this world. But the main event for me was the Stick Rice sour ale: my mild was blown! A new favorite spot in the Herndon area. Great food options. We had the tacos and nachos but there's also pizza at the bar. I'd definitely recommend the tacos. 1-2 tacos and nachos to share was more than enough for me! We also got beers and let me tell you, the flavors were amazing. I got an Mai tai beer and my friend had the sticky rice. Both were great! The sticky rice was so good. The after taste was exactly like a mango sticky rice dish. Idk how they did that and I forgot to ask lol. Also, the ambience was great. The bartender said a local artist does all their chalk art behind the bar and updates it regularly whenever they have a new drink on the menu (they have an art piece for each drink!). Came here with friends prior to flying out. It is conveniently located close to IAD if you are looking for someplace close. I like that while it's a brewery, they also offer cocktails and wine. Great beer! Hard working friendly staff. Nice spacious facility with food options (pizza and Mexican). For non beer drinkers a full bar is available. For NA beer fans multiple choices and one made by Crooked Run themselves that our party really liked. For the traditional beers great options, many styles and well crafted! No flight option unfortunately. Various chilled cans to go. The negatives are the parking which looks about right sized but don't match the volume of folks visiting on a non peak week night. And not enough seating. Each visit we have to compete to get a table and watch folks hawking over tables to get one as they open up. These two negatives are just inconveniences and a testament to their product (good beer!) and their popularity. The Sterling location couldn't be more different than the Leesburg location. Both great but the Sterling location is a fun active place with various drinks, food and space to hang with friends. Would be remiss to note a wee bit pricey but again good product. read more

Venue: B- situated in an industrial park, not much for views, but they've done the best they can with a large outdoor seating area.They have combined their space with the restaurant bar next store, so the inside is a lot bigger. There is a stage for live music, full bar, and a couple different food options to pick from. Not sure if the inside is dog friendly, but I've seen dogs on the patio area. They are kid tolerant, but the kids will be bored. Last time I was there, they added two arcade games to the tasting rooms. They also host some cool theme nights. Bring Your Own Vinyl is a fun one. Food: B there is a taco stand inside the brewery. It is good, but I feel it's a little expensive for the small portion sizes. A better bet is to go next store to the biscuit place. read more

Fun night this past Saturday, place was packed with Berlin Calling doing 80s, and it was a real party with many grooving to the 80s music! Place is both a brewery and cocktail bars and Señor Ramon tacos available as well as regular bar food! Staff was friendly and though the dance floor was tight it had a friendly easy going crowd. We were lucky to get a high table in the center near front with high chairs so we had vantage point of the band and room overall! It was our second night celebrating a birthday weekend with visiting NC friends and this place truly culminated the weekend with a bang! Really like they have a variety of brews to include fruity concoctions like Raspberry Empress and Herrington (?). I am a flights girl because big beers fill me up too much and I like the variety; and when I asked they told me they don't offer any. Then I saw a guy with smaller flight like beers in his hands (had 2 different small beers) and when I asked him he said those were apparently called 'half-pours' and that's what I was supposed to order. I was a little turned off the staff bartenders not offering me to order this. Hey if I'm asking for a flight but you don't have any then you should offer me the closest size you have to flights, which is called half-pours here. Reasonable, right? Anyway, the beers are tasty and their taquerias serves up the awesome tacos so I am not too made but in case you wondering why it's not. Full 5 stars, that's why. read more

Neat little compound(?) we have come to several times over the past couple of years. The beer itself is good, most recently I had the Rose Empress and really enjoyed it. Most beers I've had are good and I'd say above average for the craft breweries in the area. Service is quick and generally not insanely packed. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Many dogs outside. Senor Ramon's has great tacos and nachos and we like the selection of the salsas offered. Everything is well-seasoned and there are multiple meat, veggie, and vegan options. Service is pretty quick despite being a small busy kitchen onsite. The nacho portions are pretty substantial and easily were a meal. Daybreak has a nice selection of southern breakfast offerings. Even the pickiest eater in our group left full. You gotta get the biscuit sandwiches. I have not tried their lunch/dinner offerings so I can't speak on those, but it seems like they have several options from apps to flatbreads and even options for kids. I'd say prices are fair for the area. Nectar Cocktail bar is a little hit or miss. They've had fresh squeezed juices that you can make into a mimosa that have been good. Most recently I got a spicy margarita from there and it tasted like a regular margarita, not spicy, and not memorable. I threw in some jalapeños I got from Senor Ramon's and then it was actually spicy. Overall a great little spot with multiple options for multiple palettes. Came here for happy hour with some co-workers and found a place I love and will definitely be back. A brewery, a full bar with mixed drinks, and other delicious drinks to sample. Two eateries, a taco place, and a biscuit company. Plenty of seating both inside and out and a stage with live music. Fun place, not too loud at least while we were there, but it wasn't super crowded on a Wednesday afternoon. A short drive from work and from home. I'll definitely be back. Lots of drinks to sample, even though I'm not a big drinker. Tried a Strawberry Mango Hard Seltzer, that tasted more like a smoothie but it was good and flavorful. Tried a friend's Moscow mule and margarita, which were both good. Like I said, not a big drinker, but I will come back to sample the sangria, maybe a light local beer, and some other drink specials that sounded good. Senior Ramon is the taco place. I grabbed a Carne Asada taco and a Carnitas taco and both were good and very reasonably priced. All in all, a great meal, great drinks, and great company. May 11-17 was American Craft Beer Week, a fact I learned about on Twitter. I asked the Twitterverse for recs on local breweries to check out in honor of American Craft Beer Week who were doing curbside pickup, and Crooked Run was a resounding favorite. They do offer pandemic pickup at the curb, which is awesome and a bit of a misnomer as you just drive up and they put it in your car, so you don't even have to get out or go inside a brewery, which feels safe. The not-as-awesome is that you have to call to order rather than doing anything online. It makes it hard to know what to order because you don't really know what they still have. They do have a curbside menu which lists the beer's names and ABV, beer style, but which doesn't really give much of a description in terms of taste and isn't updated moment to moment if they end up running out of things. It was fine, but overall other local breweries are doing a more efficient job so that beer orders are paid for and ready when you get there. But, we are all doing our best right now and the fact that they're still open and are making it work at all is amazing. read more

Nothing crooked about this spot, probably my favorite brewery in Northern VA. It's a place where there's beers, tacos, live music, outdoor seating, who's gonna hate? With those amazing amenities, they all rock. Of course you're here for beer and do they have some great ones. The go to for me is the Heart & Soul for IPAs and the Raspberry Espress for fruity sensations. They also have a pecan beer which is sweet and strong (16%). Try to stay upright after that! Señor Ramon Taquera is next to the brewery inside; a nice touch for great beer. They serve some badass tacos and Mexican bites making this brewery even more must visit for out of towners and locals. Beer and tacos is as American as beer and tacos! Outdoor seating is avail with benches and patio furniture giving a Biergarten atmosphere. And there's live music on certain days. However they sound, they're much better after throwing a few brews back. My advice to you is run like a crook to this spot and see how a LoCo brewery does it's thing! read more

Found this place on a list of Loudoun County breweries and reviews looked pretty good so we headed to Sterling. Building looks a little like an office building from the outside and they have a decent amount of parking around. There's a limited amount of seating inside but outside there are a bunch of tables even a large tent. The ordering lines got long with how busy it was but I guess that's expected for Saturday. We ordered the Sticky Rice, the Strawberry Watermelon Swirl, the Raspberry Empress, the Minted, and the Proper. We really loved the Sticky Rice, and tastes pretty close to the actual thing, great tropical flavors. Nice and refreshing. My girlfriend really liked the Strawberry Watermelon swirl. It's the most unique hard seltzer and one of the best tasting ones as well. Minted was a nice heavy stout but I got a good amount of peppermint and mint in it, made it a little refreshing. Raspberry Empress was a nice middle between sour and IPA. The Proper was ok, your nice standard lager. Love the selection at this place and the option of both Senor Ramon and Daybreak for food so you could spend a while here, especially on a nice day.
