Came here one evening with my brother and husband and we all enjoyed our beers. The boys had their IPAs, which they really liked. And I was madly in love with my sticky mango rice beer -- soooo much so, I'm giving this quaint little brewery spot five whole stars!!! But in fairness of this review, I have more great things to say. The moment we walked in, we were greeted by the bartender and regulars. They were so nice! And the area had ample seating for a spot so tiny -- seats at the bar and seats outside too. We were there briefly so I'm unsure if there's food -- perhaps not, BUT if you just want a quick drink or a nightcap, this is THE spot to visit! read more

Updating my very old review. Now most of the action has shifted to the larger Sterling and DC locations but Leesburg is the foundation. While the tap room is small and there is limited outdoor seating this is a great place to have a brew especially if you are already in the area. Crooked Run's taplist tends to be IPA forward but always with a new mix of dark brews and funky/sours. On this visit we went with the Hellfire dark IPA. A balance toasty black malt with a citrusy bite from Cashmere, Amarillo, and Centennial hops. We also had the Errant porter. An English-style made with chocolate, cocoa, caramel, and rye malts and lightly hopped with East Kent Golding. Nice roasty flavors. We with a 4-pack of what I consider to be their core or house beer - the Heart and Soul IPA which clocks in at 6.5% ABV and 30 IBU. This IPA has moderate bitterness and mixes East and West cost styles. read more

Awesome beers! One of the best breweries in Loudoun County! Crooked Run is definitely a staple in Loudoun county's craft beer scene known (and tasted) for its quality and diversity of beers available. There's always a good variety to choose from covering all the various beer types (IPA, dark, sours, ales, lagers, imperials). The creative flavors employed in their brewing take an existing solid beer and give it a unique flavor/zaz (IPA's, dark ales, Sours..). I enjoy sampling their beer more than most breweries for the fun takes and unique tastes. The two locations are vastly different in terms of venue size and onsite accommodations. Sterling is large and all-encompassing with various food and other cocktails available. Leesburg is small, personal, and part of a larger complex in the fun downtown area. Have had fun at both! The taproom folks are laid back and very knowledgeable. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the artistry on the cans, it's unique and simple fun. The consistent branding makes it easy to spot a Crooked Run beer when out and about! 4 packs of chilled cans and single bottles of special potentially higher ABV brews available to take home. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here Saturday evening. I was really excited to try their U-Bae beer as I have never heard of a beer flavored with ube and it is one of my favorite flavors. It is now up there with my favorite beers and I had to bring a pack home. I got the orange empress sour as my second drink and it was not great. Seeing as this is a spin off of their regular raspberry empress, I would have liked to taste more orange flavor instead of just sour. The place itself is quite small with dive bar vibes. If you come at a busy time it may feel claustrophobic inside and outside there is limited seating and parking. With that being said, the location is pretty awesome as it is right next to a cidery and multiple good spots for food in downtown Leesburg. I look forward to coming back to Crooked Run in the near future as their uniqueness in flavor has definitely captured my attention. read more

My wife have been here twice now while visiting downtown leesburg. This is a small but awesome brewery. It feels like a hole in the wall dive bar but the staff is super nice, and the customers as equally as warming and friendly. They have a large tap selection, huge cooler of to go beers, and decent apparel and glasses for purchase. There is also ample outdoor seating including tables and chairs. I enjoyed how the bartender made an effort to come outside and collect empties as well. Come here for chill vibes and cold delicious beer. read more

If you can get a seat, this tiny brewery is a great place to enjoy some unique beers. My friends and I got here right as it opened so that we could claim the only larger table on the patio. Inside is very dark and cramped, with just a few seats, a small bar, a merchandise corner, and a single stall bathroom. When more people started arriving it was downright claustrophobic trying to get to the bar or squeeze past to the restroom. The bartender was friendly but didn't give much information when asked. He implied that they don't serve flights, but they do, as well as half pours of any of the beers. I tasted the Raspberry Empress, Star Light, and Razzz, and I liked Razzz the most. I've never seen a beer that color! There are no prices listed, and it came out to around $9 for 12 oz. read more

Crooked run is a staple in the brewery community within the county. The OG spot in Leesburg has been an intimate spot that I always enjoyed stopping by after a round of golf or a quick beer with friends during a bike ride. I was exclusively visiting the brewery before Covid but once that mess started I did a lot of to-go cans to enjoy at home. I noticed that shortly after they expanded the Sterling location that they pulled back on the variety of beers and started doing fewer and fewer. I then noticed a change in taste and my coworkers confirmed the same assumption. I reached out to Crooked Run through Instagram and they confirmed they were tweaking recipes. I'm not in the business so I don't understand the limited varieties now or the tweaks to the brews but I've since limited my visits. I find it harder to find stuff I like and typically only go if there is a social event already planned there. The Leesburg spot is a must do during bar hopping but be sure to ask for a taster before getting a full pour of anything. read more

May be my third time here. They always have their classic favorites plus new beers on tap. They will let you sample the beers first. I tried the toastmaster but wasn't a fan so I got my usual the raspberry empress. The place is small with indoor and outdoor seating. Unfortunately I didn't take any photos here but this was one of our favorite breweries while visiting Leesburg. Everyone was so nice, and attentive, the beer was good and they had great music. Beers we enjoyed: Coast (Pilsner), Pyramid Scheme (Hazy IPA), Dark Lager (Cant remember the name). - The lager surprised us because it looks heavy but it was actually crisp and light. - The hazy IPA was not overly hoppy and very refreshing. - You can never go wrong with a Pilsner. Sat the bar and ordered a flight of everything they had: Wishing Well Dry Stout (4.5% ABV) Lord Logan English DIPA (9.0% ABV) Belgian Pale Ale (5.0% ABV) Red Wine Barrel-Aged Shadow of Truth (Black Belgian Tripel) (8.0% ABV) Animism (Raspberry Sour Brown) (9.0% ABV) Coffee Cask Shadow of Truth (8.0 ABV) All of their beers were interesting to taste - but I did not find one amongst that crop of selections that made me want to drink a pint of it. Crooked Run Brewing is a great little spot to try some interesting nanobrews in the Leesburg area. They have a small and cozy tasting room and a nice little patio that I have a feeling I will spend some time at once it warms up a little. The Kolsch was my favorite the first time I was here, so when we went back the next weekend I was sad to learn it was kicked. They do everything in small batches though, so don't make my mistake... get your growler of your favorite before it's gone! They also sell cigars, various CRB merch and offer a nice relaxing time, with bonus snuggles from Logan the resident beer pup. Great place! read more

Small and cute with a lot of beer with great vibes and total aesthetics. Went to visit Crooked Run during the Flower Festival in Leesburg and had a great time. Walking distance to download Leesburg stop by for a quick drink, or explore one of the restaurants near by. Their raspberry sour was on point - if you're a sour fan. Since moving to VA from NC, I don't see as my sours unfortunately so I was pretty excited. They also offer some hot dogs and popcorn for a small price. I would definietly come back to Crooked Run Brewing when visiting Leesburg. read more

Jake makes great beers here at Crooked Run; there's often something new to try. Not a lot of food options, but outside food is welcome. The crowd is a bit eclectic, but all are welcomed. I prefer to sit outside and people watch. Great place to come have a beer before or after dinner in downtown Leesburg. You can walk here from most anywhere in the downtown area. My only complaint would be that you need to leave your credit card with the bartender in order to open a tab. read more

Pretty (insert expletive) amazing is the best way to describe them. This place is definitely on the smaller and more experimental side that most. Usually I find overly experimental breweries to be a turn off, but I liked theirs. "Nanobrewery" is a very well earned description. The brewers will make anything but they have a yen for sours and saisons (swoon). My servers were Ryan and Mike; both were cool dudes to chat with and especially loved chatting about their beer. The tap room is TINY; it's no wonder they are looking for a bigger location. But apparently they intend to keep their existing room in Leesburg, which is great because this place needs a good beer joint and I love how you can bring food in from any of the excellent nearby restaurants. Crooked Run only brews 3 barrels (that's about 6 kegs worth) at a time, so their menu moves FAST. If this is a good or bad thing is debatable, since it also gives them an excuse to craft something new. This also means if you find something you like, grab it while you can. Only 5 beers on tap, but here's what I tried: Nitro Red Kolsch (Flagship beer): OK; not bad but worth a try Cherry Cayenne: An odd combination that worked. And yes, it did taste like cayenne! Peach Habanero: VERY spicy and hot. Not something I'd get often but glad I tried Garuda IPA: A little different from other IPAs, but again a winner. Made with a pilsner malt La Rescata: More tart than sour, but as I love sour beers a definite winner. Unfortunately their award winning "Supernatural" Saison wasn't on tap! read more

This was my second visit to Crooked Run Brewing, however, the last time I visited was a few years ago. I remembered there being a peach habanero IPA that I really enjoyed and took my family there to see if it was still on tap. It unfortunately wasn't (they seem to rotate beers seasonally), but there were a ton of other awesome options. I ended up getting a different IPA and really enjoyed it. The space is pretty small, but there are a few tables and if you come during a time when it isn't too busy you could probably get away with hanging out there with a few friends. I'll most likely be back the next time I'm in the Leesburg area for the friendly service and good burrrr. read more

Ive purchased their beers from bottle shops and have been overly impressed so I was a bit excited to try their beer on tap and sample some of Leesburg's night life. I was pretty disappointed, first off I go to breweries, Cidery's, Beer bar's, and bottle shops alot and the customer service here was really awful. Its a small place people coming to the bar alot etc. but if at least be welcoming to some degree. I was ready tk leave as soon as I spoke to the beertender. I had a west coast IPA and it was ok and my Wife had a sour and the sour wasn't bad. We dipped after one drink. Went across to the Cider place and the service was spot on and the drinks were great. For once in my years of craft beveraging I enjoyed the Cider place on a way higher level than the brewery. read more

3 stars based strictly on the beers themselves. I found the location to be really cute and the bartenders to be super nice. As mentioned in other reviews, it's definitely a small space - don't go if you don't like crowded areas. I stopped by here Saturday afternoon. Although it was a bit cold, it was sunny, so some people opted to sit outside (few tables available). But I brought in food (which is allowed, and I highly recommend as their food options are very limited) and sat at the bar while I enjoyed a flight. There were quite a bit of people coming and going, but I didn't really mind. Going back to the beer - there is a wide selection available, depending on what you're in the mood for. I always get a flight when I stop by a new brewery so I can get a feel for all the offerings. Neat selection, but there wasn't one that I really enjoyed. Most were okay and some were just bad. Some flavors were wild (like meringue pie??) that seemed like it was there just for fun, and not necessarily because it actually tasted good. But I still had a good time and glad I tried it out. I may stop by again when there is new selection available. PS: if you pay $1, you can get popcorn with refills. DO ITTTTT. read more

While he said the beer couldn't be sipped outside, the people right next to us were able to with no complaints. Very weird . Keep the same energy. We stopped at Crooked Run during a recent visit to Leesburg. Crooked Run Brewing is a cozy and dog friendly brewery in downtown Leesburg. They were quite busy when we visited but we were able to be served after waiting a few minutes. Crooked Run had a few beers on tap during our visit and they also do tasting flights which is a plus. I tried three out of the four beers they had available (the one I opted out of was a chili beer which I am not too keen on drinking). The beers I tried were pretty good and the pours seemed much larger for a tasting. It's probably the same but I'm not complaining. There is some seating at the bar, inside, and on the small patio. They are very dog friendly which is always a plus. Staff was busy but friendly to us throughout our visit. read more

Been going to Crooked Run in old Leesburg for some time, probably since not long after it opened. Atmosphere: Located in a sort of quiet nook under the old station. The place is a little dank, but clean, and what you could call a really efficient use of space. People: Friends who have been to Crooked Run ask later, "When are we going back to the 'hipster' place?" Is is a mostly young, friendly, tho motley bunch. Beer: Excellent, high flavor, daring brews. Just a few. The Raspberry Empress IPA cannot be kept in stock. Get it while you can. Coast, a crisp Pilsner style. Merrang!, a Berliner with Lemon meringue notes. read more

If I were to guess, if I had visited Crooked Run Brewing on a beautiful day, I would have given them a higher rating. However, on a lousy day..... needless to say the space inside is very cramped. There are two tables that seat about 8 people and a small bar that seats about 4-6. There is seating outside, but on a chilly day, it really wasn't an option. The staff here were great! Super friendly and consistently tried to be helpful, although it sometimes too a bit of time to get someone's attention. However, they appeared to be a bit understaffed although I do not think they could have had any extra staff behind the small bar. As is the case for many establishments in Leesburg, they use well water, which means they can't really get a lot of water or much in the way of hot water, not always the most comfortable feeling when you want to wash your hands. Unfortunately, the brewery did not have any beers I liked. They were fairly hoppy, which is not something I enjoy. They looked like they had some interesting stouts coming soon, but sadly, they were not available yet. (Note: my opinion of the beers is not a factor in the number of stars) read more

Crooked Run in Leesburg is one of my favorite breweries and bars. The beers are delicious, and the vibe and music is different from the nearby bars like McDowells. If you're looking for something different, this is the place to be. The Coast is my favorite pilsner at the moment, but the one-off Out-Of-Range has the best flavor I've tasted for a dark lager, the Heart and Soul is a staple, the minted is an Imperial Stout with mint-chocolate flavor, and the Raspberry Empress is the best sour I've ever had. There is something for everyone here. They have live music every Friday and every Thursday they have a game-night tournament where you win a prize if you come out on top. I've never competed but it is a lot of fun to watch. read more

I've been to crooked run before- the beer is pretty good. Today our experience was negative not because of the beer but the staff was rude. We came in with an empty growler to get a refill. At the entrance, we were checked for ID and told that growler refills weren't happening due to their second anniversary party. Up to this point, all is ok. We left, and as we left we stated that we didn't want anything other than a growler refill. The folks at the entrance were rude to us, and we overheard patrons saying something about a rude hand gesture towards us. We will not be back. read more

Big fan of small businesses, breweries and vineyards and Crooked Run Brewing is no different. Great spot in Market station, friendly staff and homey feel plus they are dog friendly! There is even brewery dog on premises you (and your pup) can play with. You can order pints or beer samples in blue trays. After seeing the reviews on Yelp, our group of 4 had to stop in! The location is a little hard to find, tucked away in some sort of outdoor shopping complex. It's very quaint and charming inside with an adorable English Setter "guarding" (see "sleeping next to") the door. We sat down at the bar and were told they were out of the IPA -- no big deal as none of us are huge IPA fans. 2 in our party got a flight and the beer was extremely average. Certainly not bad, but also surely not worth 4.5 stars it currently boasts on Yelp. That being said, the Belgian Triple was good and definitely above average. When we went to pay, each flight was $11, which is a little pricy to begin with for 5 tastings, but a little ridiculous when we only got 4 tastings (no IPA). I wish they had considered a reduction in price for an incomplete flight. Charming atmosphere, average beer, and interesting business tactics. read more
