Cute brewery not far from the Raven Rocks Trailhead. Came here after a hike. Lots of parking spots with spaces marked with cute little bear claws. It can get packed near their event time though. Lots of seating inside and outside. Great for kids and pups to run around. Nice view of the east. Lines for the women's bathroom can build up though. Lots of food options - their food inside and food trucks outside. Cute cups for their beer. Ended up ordering one of their burgers to eat. Met up with friends for a fall day of drinks and an adult corn maze adventure. First stop: Bear Chase, conveniently close to our evening plans at the farm. Parking: A total zoo. By the time we arrived late afternoon, the early-bird drinkers had completely taken over. Cars were parked everywhere like a tailgate gone rogue. Thankfully, people were starting to leave and we snagged a nearby spot. Food & Drinks: Ordering is confusing -- same counter for both, but food pickup happens at separate windows (and yes, they hand you multiple pagers ). We got a classic hamburger and a giant pretzel. The pretzel? Hot, fresh, and came with delicious beer cheese. The burger? Lukewarm and not at all "grilled" as the name The Grill might suggest. Vibes: The view is gorgeous -- rolling hills and mountain scenery -- but wow, the volume! Between the music, chatter, and crowd noise, it was impossible to have a normal conversation. Bear Chase is hopping! Went there on Saturday evening and they were busy, but you could still find seating and there was not a delay in ordering beer or food. There was a live band and a lot of families hanging out both inside and out. My husband and I found a small table near their roaring fireplace, which was perfect. We enjoyed both stouts, dunkel and amber. My husband enjoyed the imperial stout the most and I think I favored the dunkel, though both the oatmeal stout and amber were also tasty. I also enjoyed the large pretzel and grilled chicken sandwich and my husband enjoyed the house burger. The environment was a little loud, but festive and fun. We are already planning to come back. Really loved the place. They got their own parking lot with abundant of spaces. There is a gift shop before their restaurant entrance. The sweatshirt, hat, coins, and other gift items seemed to be well made with quality in mind. The servers are very friendly, and they take time to explain to you about the beverage that you are interested in, and provide a sample cup if desired. The price is moderately reasonable. The come in 3 different sizes. And their food is actually amazingly scrumptious! We really enjoyed our time there! It was totally worth the visit. We stopped by this brewery over a holiday weekend--definitely a fun place with a great outdoor setup. It was pretty busy (as expected), but the atmosphere was relaxed and family-friendly, which we really appreciated. The beer was decent--nothing mind-blowing, but solid enough for a casual afternoon hang. They have a little animal farm area, where the kids can feed the animals. That said, the live band was rough. Unfortunately, it kind of killed the vibe for us and was a big reason we didn't stick around longer. The pizza looked really good, though we didn't get a chance to try it. I really enjoyed our stop here. After hiking Bears Den, we came here for a beverage. From what I hear, it gets pretty busy and I can see why. Huge venue with tons of indoor and outdoor seating. We celebrated our 3 year anniversary here this past weekend at the beer and wine festival. It wasn't much of a wine festival but deft beer They had so many great options and local vendors. I loved the Pumpkin patch more than Bears Chase Oktoberfest. The non beer char beers I enjoyed was, Lost Barrel cinnamon dolce porter, Corcoran Hard Cider barrel aged was my second fave. The food was aight, I liked the pretzel the best. Everything was meh. If they started having BBQ that would be amazingggg and pizza that didn't taste like frozen cardboard for $17. The service was regular nothing to brag about. The vibes were on point, there was live music, and AMAZINGGG views. I would recommend brining a blanket and cozy clothes. You can also bring your own chairs. There's patio seating and tons of outdoor seating. There's also covered seating. read more

Great for groups with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, The sunset view of Shenandoah Valley is truly spectacular! While I missed the views the 1st time when it poured, I'm glad I came back to enjoy the view at sunset! There's a lot of picnic tables and areas for people to spread out and relax (there's also outdoor beer service). Along with a dozen or so types of beer on tap, there's also a couple of ciders, hard seltzer slushies, and a few non-alcoholic beers. You can easily find a beverage for anyone. I wish there were a couple of more ciders on tap. The ginormous pretzel was very filling and paired well with the Bold Rock Cider on draught. Highly recommend the upcharge for the beer cheese dip! I was stuffed before I touched the flatbread, and wished I started with the flatbread first! The Truffle Mushroom caramelized onion flatbread hit the spot and the flavors really blended well together. The Pepperoni Pizza was greasy and didn't look as appetizing. Note, the brewery doesn't make most of the food and get it from other vendors (they didn't go into details on their suppliers). There were a few types of flatbreads and pizza along with burritos, tacos, crab dips, and other types of finger foods. It would be nice to have more vegetarian options on the menu like a spinach artichoke dip, warm bread, truffle fries, etc. Have come back twice for the flatbread and the views! read more

When I was in AZ, my friend texted me the bearpaw symbol and said "We're taking you here when you visit." Cool. My last name is Bearhand so this symbol spoke to me. . Upon arrival, it looked very cozy, countryside. Once you walk into the place, its packed with dogs, dogs, dogs! I was in heaven!! So many people with beer and dogs. Yes! I love this!! I just wish my two little boogers could have flown here too. They would have made so many friends. The only downside, its SO loud. There is no dampening the sound - no insulation. We walked outside and wow - a hill with several giant firepits. I love fire a great fire but the wind was wreaking havoc. The view is beautiful and they have many plastic Iqloos to escape into as well. They have piles of wood, free to fuel your fire for as long as you'd like. The beers were delicious. The dogs were great. The view is spectacular. Bring the family. Bring the friends. Don't leave the dog behind! They will have plenty of buddies to meet at Bear Chase. read more

This place is MASSIVE. I was in total shock when we pulled up to an already full parking lot with lines coming out the doors and it was barely 1pm. WHO ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE AND HOW DO THEY KNOW ABOUT THIS PLACE!? Well that should be a testament to how fun this place is! It's waaaaaaaaaayyyy out there (as someone who lives inside the beltway) and while it took a little over an hour to get there, it was worth it! It was a gorgeous fall afternoon and there was everything from amazing views, great beer, all the food options you could ask for, live music and tons of FREE fire pits (first come first serve) with wood already stacked and ready to go for you. There beer was decent. I tasted the Pumpkin and Oktoberfest, along with both Hazy IPA's. I really liked that they had their own seltzers too. GET THE MULE- it tastes just like a Moscow Mule but as a seltzer- all gingery and limey. I tasted the Chill seltzer too and while it looked like antifreeze, it tasted like blue raz. They had several food situations going on which was KIND of annoying because if you ordered a pizza, some tacos, some charcuterie and those mozzarella sticks, you were given 4 different buzzers and had to pick them up at 4 different locations. I get that it was more efficient for them, but it was a lot as a customer trying to weave in and out of people only to be told when you finally get to the front of the line that you're in the wrong place. I did appreciate that they had different pour stations. People seemed happy to wait in line at the main bar (where they had ALL the things like wine and all the beers and seltzers) but if you just needed a drink, there were pop ups throughout the property that had SOME of the options with no line. Same with the bathrooms- there were regular ones in the main lodge but they had those fancy port-o-potties (the kind that are mobile, but in a truck or something, so there are multiple inside) out in the fields. That was nice. so GO HERE if you have a big group (or whoever)- just go early! It's super fun, they have everything you need (for the beer person, the wine person, the food person, the kid person and the dog person) for a fun afternoon. read more

When I'm rating breweries, there is a matrix I use. First things first: Beer: C+ The beer is decent. On my last visit, they had a good session IPA and peach sour. I've had their normal rotation several times over, and nothing really stands out, good or bad. Venue: A++ You cannot beat the views. Watching the sun set can be a romantic date for you and yours. Dog and kid friendly. Sometimes kid friendly means there are feral children running wildly around a venue, but because of the hilly terrain, they tend to congregate on the bottom field area, so they're out of the way. Also, they always have a solid lineup of live entertainment. Food: C: Their in-house food is standard bar fare: pretzels, nachos, etc. On the weekends, there are food trucks that offer other options. read more

Visited Bear Chase with extended family for lunch. It was a beautiful, sunny day, so we ate outside. The food is served cafeteria style where you wait in a line to order and you're given a pager for each group of items. The beer they serve is good. I drank a Appalachian Trail wheat, which I found pleasing. The place was packed and they had parking assistance. There were also some food trailers serving fresh oysters and shrimp. The french fries were pretty tasty as was the Bavarian pretzel. My chicken tacos were yummy. One of our crew said his hamburger was dry, but my son said his was okay. We had some good laughs and good food. The view was beautiful and this is a must visit destination if you're in the area. read more

This is a Big People Playground! Love it!! Been here practically every weekend. Love the grounds, love being able to just sit and relax or walk around a bit. Love the vendors they bring in (Face-painting, Jewelry, Hatchet-toss, Puppies!), love the music -- when it's not too loud. Also love that I can open a tab and buy from any location and post it to the tab. I love the hot dogs, and I like being able to refill a beer there rather than going up to the main counter (which sometimes gets a little long). We went to Bear's Chase when visiting friends that live in Virginia. The first impression when arriving was WOW this place is big and the view is picture perfect. We arrived a little after they opened, which I am happy we did because the place gets busy when it is beautiful weather. The line for the drinks gets LONG. You can keep a tab open which is nice. I had the mule hard seltzer which was delicious, I really enjoyed it. There are a lot of different food options, however it is confusing because the different menus are everywhere and you order in the same place. For example, one spot is the pizza menu, one is the regular, another is the tacos. I feel like you could easily miss something that you could order. When you order they give you a buzzer. It didn't take that long for the food to be ready, it wasn't all at the same time, each thing was ready at a different time. We had mozzarella sticks, which were so delicious. I crave them now, they were cooked perfectly, crispy and the cheese was not too stringy. Then we had the chorizo tacos, which I really enjoyed but you have to like spice! There are so many different spots to sit at the brewery. We first sat on the covered patio and listened to the live music. Then we went outside so the kids could play outside. They had chalk there which they were able to play with. There are many places to sit outside in the sun or the shade, adirondack chairs and picnic tables. good barleywine. wanted a half pint, but was ok with the full bottle when the gent told me they didn't have it on tap. would have liked a warning that the bottle was a half litre rather than 12 oz. the cider was tasty as well, my wife had a half of that. good food from the Grill on the Hill. very much enjoyed the mushroom swiss burger. the band started live right after we sat down. music was good but WAY too loud at first. they were very responsive and turned it down enough to allow conversation. we grabbed seats at the bar along the back wall. the view is spectacular. after a bit they opened the windows - clear plastic shades - and it was even better. not terribly crowded when we got there just before noon, but completely packed when we left an hour plus later. read more

This is a great place to enjoy some outdoor time and a good beer. However it gets packed so you definitely want to get there early - even better if you bring your own chairs because even early the seats can go fast. We got there around noon on a Saturday and it was already difficult to find a place. This is a dog friendly place for your fur babies. We didn't have any bad beers (I personally loved Mr. Blonde). We went on a car cruise from DC to Bear Chase this weekend and had an awesome Saturday afternoon hanging out at this brewery. It was foggy and cold out, but there is quite a bit of seating inside for guests and patrons. They open at 11 and get there early if you plan to need a few tables - we heard a birthday party was there at 11:01A.M. to secure tables (they don't take reservations). It was a bit crowded and people stood near the bar and between tables when seating ran out. The parking lot is gravel - recommend boots if it's raining! We ordered a bunch of different food and drinks. For pickle fans definitely recommend the Pickle seltzer - my friend said it's the best drink she has had in ages. My favorite was the blue raspberry seltzer, particularly the fact that it was BRIGHT blue! Tasted a bit like adult blue Gatorade. I also had the frozen white wine sangria - it was good, but I mostly tasted the wine, not fruity like typical sangria. For food, I ordered the beef tacos, they were okay - somewhat bland and a bit on the small side. They were better with the guacamole add on. Many in our party ordered burgers - they came out very hot. Fries do not come with burgers, they are a $4-$5 add on. The fries also got cold quickly. Overall, great place to go if you looking for a chill hangout spot. Definitely get there early to get a good seat, and expect extra crowds inside if the weather is mediocre. If you like beer with a view, then this place is for you. They have a huge selection of beers. I got a blonde beer with a nice cool taste. The food selection is limited since they are more of a brewery. They have bar food. I got the chorizo nachos. They tasted good but tasted even better after some drinks. The big draw is the nice scenic view. It really is beautiful. Nothing like enjoying a drink with friends while enjoying the view. There is plenty of seating and lawn space for a picnic. We rented a cottage on the property. The cottage itself was spectacular. We love Bear Chase. I had the opportunity to meet the head brewer, he was very knowledgeable and had a ton of experience in the restaurant world. The beer was great and he was a great guy. I will say, though I was pretty disappointed in the food. The limited menu on the weekdays is really an issue. And what food does come out of the kitchen at least on the weekdays is just OK. So I would go back for the spectacular view the wonderful beer, the friendly staff, but would ask that the owners of Chase to take another look at the menu, and the quality and types of food being offered. I've been to a lot of other breweries where the food is not necessarily the star but a close second. They owners of Chase should strive for that level of quality and offerings.
