Fantastic place to get to know your pallet. The owner walked us through every flavor and how to absorb whiskey the proper way. Must stop!! Thank you Ken

As you go through the rolling hills of West Virginia, you will see signs in the grass for this 3-month-old distillery. It's a beautiful and thoughtfully constructed facility and it's well worth a visit whether or not you also visit the local casino and wineries. Two percent of every aging barrel of spirits evaporates due to the porosity of the barrel. That's called the Angels' Share. The owners of this distillery joke that if the angels get their share, then the Devil must also get his Due! LOL The industrial park exterior belies the cozy tasting room within. We were greeted warmly by the two front of house representatives. We purchased tastings at a very reasonable $12 each, including a souvenir glass etched with the distillery's logo. The bartender happened to be the nephew of the owner, who came in shortly after our arrival. They offered us a tour and shared top-notch knowledge of the distillation process and the extra steps that they take to create innovative and high-quality vodka, rye, bourbon, and whiskey. Their small batches are crafted with care and, by turns, have flavors of pepper, caramel, maple, apple, and more. The distillery is spotless and built sustainably from local trees. Local corn/grains are sourced for their mash and I appreciated their awareness of sustainability. The delicious flavor of their Maple Whiskey transported me to Montreal where I sampled fresh maple syrup drizzled over snow. I bought a bottle of it to enjoy at home. Check out my photos of the decor. The distillery is sophisticated enough for date night/day and girls' night/day. This was a fantastic experience and we will be back!

My wife and I went in to check them out. Not knowing what to expect. The girl asked if we were there for a tasting. So we said yeah why not. The first thing I saw when we walked in was a giant poodle dog. I said what's up dog? And petted the dog right away. Then we found a place at the bar for our tasting. There were 6 or 8 people there. Including the dog owners. While we were tasting. I noticed a little dog behind the bar. He was a cool looking little dog. Named Nash. My wife found a sticker for sale that said pet dogs and drink bourbon. Then I knew it I was in the right place. I liked all of the regular flavors. Vodka , bourbon and rye whiskey . I'm not a fan of sweet flavored alcohol. But that's my preference. The staff was friendly. The dogs were cool the atmosphere was cool. I really had a good time. And everyone seemed to be having a great time. The prices were comparable to any other distillery price you'll find. It was a great time. And I'll be back. Because of that and because I forgot to pet Nash

Friendly staff and really good booze. Ask for a tour of how they go about making the different drinks.

Service and ambiance was exceptional. Dogs were allowed to visit and we got some special treatment by the distiller.

I always get a text when new flavors drop. Had the tour and was amazed how much they were making in a small building.

For over a year we wondered about what Black Draft Distillery would be like…read more Although we both are retired seemed like we were always busy and could not stop on our way through the area. This weekend was for us. First the free tasting introduced us to a great product. Next two choices of Novembers cocktail made especially for our taste were enjoyed by the fireplace. As I teased my Wisconsin family members about warmup drinks and no snow on the ground, we spilt a flight of 1/2 size cocktails. The decor meant a lot to me since my family had ponies, horses growing up and our Dad had his pets. They were Belgian workhorses, his babies. They behaved better than us kids. The following pictures do not do justice to the caring ladies with their friendly, and warm personalities. Like we told them we will be back and I cannot forget we bought some Christmas cheer to take home.

One building drew quite a crowd which offered live music. I love live music but it was very LOUD and the wait to get a drink was significantly longer. That being said, we went to the other building which was way more laid back and homey. There was no wait and the bartender was SO helpful/patient offering suggestions. There was a food truck on site tonight, but unfortunately food was relatively bland and the wait was lengthy. Would love to return in the future.

I was last here almost 9 years ago. Oh boy, how different it is!…read more I came expecting a relatively small scale operation. So you can imagine my surprise when I saw a huge building with their branding. The interior is spacious, with multiple tables for tastings, each with its own bartender. There are far more options to taste than you can try in one sitting, but your server will help you narrow it down to 4. I liked to loved everything I had. They even had some weird options that I was tempted to try but I went for a more traditional flight (although I definitely want to return for the coffee whisky). The only option I wasn't in love with was the smokehouse, but that's just a personal preference. After my tasting I learned they were doing some kind of slushys as well, so I got one of those. I thought it was a very fun, informative experience. I'll also have to try the "Proof" kitchen as well.

They don't do the special cocktail evenings like they used to at their last location anymore, but Proof (attached to this building) serves cocktails featuring their spirits.

I always make sure to stop by whenever I'm in Frederick. The ambiance is like a dim light basement, a clean and moody aesthetic with bar seating and couch seating. It does get loud in there and I think that's because the sound of everyone's voice just bounces against too many hard surfaces. Nonetheless it's super cozy and my favorite spot!! The drinks are all fantastic. They make their own organic distilled liquor and on top of that they away have seasonal drink selections. I go there wanting the same drink but also try something new and it never disappoints! They craft their cocktails with love and care and really put effort into a delicious well rounded cocktail. This is my go to spot for gin, I'm not even a gin drinker but I am now because their gin is amazingly smooth. I can't say enough great things!

It's absolutely worth it.
