Wife and I decided to eat here on Valentine's Day with our 3 year old son. Not only was it Valentine's Day, it was Saturday night. So we expected it to be a little bit busy. Well, it was not busy at all but deserved to be. Granted, it didn't have a "Valentine's Day"-dinner atmosphere, but still, it was a regular Saturday night with sports on TV. For the most part, the only patrons were around the bar. We were almost scared away by the sparse crowd, but we stayed and were glad we did. Food was good/great (shrimp quesadilla, burrito bowl, jambalaya, carrot cake) and delivered quickly and our waitress/hostess was attentive and thoughtful. She didn't rush us and stopped by a good number of times without being overbearing. She also seemed genuinely happy to be able to serve us. Prices are reasonable and maybe even a bit less than average. I believe only one other family sat in the dining area after we did. A few people came and got takeout while we were there. Would recommend if you're looking for a place that has a nice variety of food and maybe a little bit hidden away that some people might not know about (though I read in other reviews this place has been around a couple decades). I placed an order for pickup from Blue Iguana that included the jumbo lump crab cakes with a Caesar salad and a loaded potato. When we got home, we discovered the loaded potato was missing entirely, and to make things worse, the crab cakes had been placed directly on top of the Caesar salad in the same container. As a result, the crab cakes were soggy and tasted like salad dressing -- not what you'd expect from a dish that's supposed to highlight jumbo lump crab. My wife called to let them know what happened, and the manager was shockingly unprofessional. Instead of apologizing or trying to make it right, he acted as if she was lying, asked for pictures, and then hung up on her. When she called back, he admitted that the kitchen had indeed packed the crab cakes and salad in the same container -- just as she said. It's one thing to make a mistake in the kitchen, but the way the manager handled it was completely unacceptable. Hanging up on a customer, accusing them of lying, and only acknowledging the issue after pushing back is not how you treat guests. We've eaten here before, but after this experience, we won't be coming back. Very disappointing. read more

We came to grab a quick drink, my boyfriend grabbed a beer and I grabbed a cocktail but cannot remember its name for the life of me. I enjoyed it though! The bathrooms are big, nice and clean. It's in a plaza so there is ample parking but still can get pretty full fast. They do daily specials as well as HH. I'd check it out again on their Latin beats night! First time eating here we ended up attending the drag brunch they had and it was quite the show. The staff here are nice and honestly it just feels like majority of the people that were there are regulars and had nothing but good things to say about the owner and the staff. I would not give this establishment a 1 star rating if it allowed me to give a negative star rating. We booked a Thanksgiving brunch there. Rang twice to confirm numbers in our party. When we turned up at our allotted time , the place was empty and no sign of any buffet. We were told it had been cancelled and they had no record of our booking. The buffet was apparently cancelled after our booking. The manager offered no apology and refused to accept any responsibility for the mix up. At that point I spoke to the, so called General Manager, who again offered no apology or compensation, in fact she idiotically accuse us of not checking before coming. We were left with no where to go for Thanksgiving. I would suggest that you give this place a wide birth. read more

I came in on Tuesday @1 am, I was looking for some late night food and ordered online at this place. When I came in I had to stand at the front for like 5 minutes without anyone helping. Then a lady waitress walked by and I was going to ask her about my order but then she SHUSHED me and started talking to her bartender friend for a good couple of minutes then walked away without helping me. Then I had to wait another 5 minutes before someone decided to ask what I needed. I simply adore my local bar! The food is homemade and delicious , the drinks are affordable and they offer specials every night of the week! I especially love Wednesday's where they are the only joint in the area offering crab legs for a fraction of the price!! The Mac and cheese and the Greek salad are my favorite go tos as well ! This restaurant/bar is highly underrated! I don't come here super often, but I am always impressed when I do. We have come here a lot before for live music and even a comedy show. They do a nice job setting up the inside for whatever sorts of events they have going on. The service is always really good and fast here. The staff are all kind and do their jobs well. We came here recently and they had some great happy hour deals. We were impressed with the variety of the deals and how they had such good deals going on, despite the pandemic and the hardship that it has brought on businesses. The regular menu and happy hour both have some great options and offer a lot of variety. The last time I was here I opted for wings, tater tots, and a burger, and everything was perfect. All-you-can eat brunch review only~ I was super excited to try Blue Iguana's brunch since B.I. is so close to home. At $13 for all you can eat, though, I didn't except much, but I was pleasantly surprised. The buffet included bacon, sausage, potato wedges, eggs benedict, pancakes, French toast, tacos, vegetables medley, creamy cheese tortellini, and make-to-order omelets and waffles. Not a huge selection, but the food was tasty and always warm! Plus, a large spread of buffet food low-key gives me anxiety, so the smaller spread worked for me. The mimosas are pretty good; I can definitely taste the booze. It was not too busy on a Sunday afternoon, but it's how I like it when I catch up with good friends. I've been to Blue Iguana a handful of times in very different stages in my life. I understand my stage at the time had influence on each encounter. That being said, I would say this was the best encounter I had with Blue Iguana. The bar area was rather full in regards to seating so my partner and I sat in the restaurant portion. The hostess was kind enough to take our drink orders after she sat us. The dinner area is clean and beautifully decorated in terms of portraits and the such. Not too many other people so we didn't have to talk over noise patrons. I wasn't a fan of the crab cakes I had but they were good and the fries were tasty nonetheless. Blue Iguana has been around for years. Back in its early days, The Washington Post's food critic visited it and gave it a favorable rating. I kept saying "One of these days we've got to try it". Well...once again, one of these days turned into one of these years. We finally went there on a Saturday night around 5 p.m. Since we were planning to check out the Whole Foods in Fairfax which is in the area, we decided to have dinner here. In this part of Fairfax, there is a dearth of restaurants. When we pulled into a parking spot right out in front of the place, we noticed a couple of bar customers loitering outside for a smoke break. One of them kept staring at us, which made my husband uncomfortable. After we got past them and entered the restaurant the first thing that hit us was the smell. The place smelled of bleach as well as some funky odor that we couldn't quite place. While it wasn't pleasant, it wasn't enough to make us run out of the place either. When Robert Irvine visits restaurants and picks up a bad smell, he traces it to the carpeting. Well...I wasn't about to investigate it that closely LOL. However, that said, the carpet looked somewhat worse for wear. An older gentleman greeted us and took us to our table. We noticed that the furnishings were on the shabby side. Between the smell and the furnishings---can you say, "time to renovate"? The older gentleman ended up being our server. He was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, friendly and had a sense of humor. We had crispy fried calamari as an appetizer. It comes with 2 dipping sauces---tomato basil sauce and sweet chili sauce. The calamari was done well. It had a light, crispy breading and was properly cooked, thus it was not at all rubbery. The tomato basil sauce had no basil flavoring. However, the sweet chili sauce was quite good as both the sweet and hot flavors came through very clearly. For my main course, I ordered pan seared salmon. This dish comes with 2 sides---portobello mushroom risotto and sauteed spinach. The salmon had a remoulade sauce on top. I asked for the salmon to be cooked medium rare. It came out almost well done. As it wasn't dried out, I didn't quibble about it and ate it as is. It generally has been my experience that most restaurants don't seem to be able to cook salmon properly and serve it either well done or almost well done. The remoulade sauce was very tame. However, the portobello mushroom risotto was prepared perfectly. The sauteed spinach was bland. Generally speaking, the entire dish was nothing to write home about. My husband had the jambalaya. It had a tomato-based sauce and consisted of shrimp, smoked chicken, andouille sausage, onions, peppers and spicy tomato sauce. You got your choice of either jasmine rice or pasta. My husband chose the rice. He said that the dish was indeed spicy. However, the two ingredients that stood out the most for him were the shrimp and the andouille sausage. He said that the sausage had really good flavor. Before the tip, dinner cost just under $50. Since we don't get out to this part of Fairfax much, we asked the waiter how to get to Fairlakes Circle. He told us that he lives in Lake Anna so he doesn't know the area too well. Lake Anna! He has quite the commute! So he got the manager who came over and gave us great directions. We don't think we'll be going back here for a meal. I do hope at some point the place gets remodeled---and they deal with that smell... read more
