Thai shrimp salad ( generous for 18 dollars and yummiest shrimp)
    Anna P.

After 5 years of happiness with Circa my joyful experience came to the end with their decision to change their menu. I hope they monitor reviews and will hear my grievances. I understand that you can't as a restaurant work on the same menu all the time, but they take away almost all staples and replace them with something very questionable. So far I tried 2 items and both were with major issues. First I tried Grilled trout entree and trout was bland with nice farro side . Whole dish seems underwhelming and had a lack of bonding sauce or flavor profile to make it a dish. Second time I had Salmon salad and this was not good at all. Salmon itself was perfectly cooked as a medium rare on my liking and champagne dressing in mixed greens was good. But I salad had cold and slimy potato pieces and big chunks of blackish marinated onions,it was hard to eat and even unpleasant. I'm really disappointed, because Thai shrimp salad was absolutely best salad in DC area as well as other very popular dishes from old menu. Please bring back Thai Shrimp!!

    Tranquilo and Purple Rain
    Nams S.

This review is for the happy hour. We tried two house cocktails, Purple Rain and Tranquilo. The blueberry habanero shrub really shines through in the purple rain, you can taste the heat. Tranquilo is mezcal forward, you get layers of mezcal, agave, vodka--again a winner. The bartender made good recommendations and knew his craft. Empty for an early Tuesday evening but trust the good reviews. Ambience os typical Circa, nothing to dislike.

    Chicken paillard
    Cynthia E.

Really enjoyed my time at circa! Before coming, I perused the menu and knew that I wanted the chicken paillard. It was something I'd never heard of and looked like it had Angel hair pasta, arugula, and the chicken looked interesting. It looked fried, but not in a typical way. So when I got my meal, I was so pleasantly surprised at how delicious the chicken was. It was a light crispy, airy texture to the skin. And the pasta was delicious - so good. It had mushrooms and sweet peppers along with the butter sauce. Thoroughly enjoyed it! I also ended up getting a mocktail which was a spicy faux margarita. Not bad! It had a nice ambience for groups, and our server was super helpful. He made a lot of good suggestions and made sure to check on us. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the area and looking for a nice dining experience!

    Birthday cookie on the house!

My favorite brunch spot, been here over a dozen times and the avocado toast is divine! Brunch is available on both Sat & Sun. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Love the kids meal with generous portion and great prices! Mother's Day brunch is the best and moms get a complimentary rose, stayed fresh for a week! For my birthday, the waiters signed a nice card and put a candle on a warm chocolate chip cookie. I got a coupon for BOGO app at Circa and also a free app at El Bebe next door. These gestures really make a celebration special! Avocado Toast (5/5) - Highlight of brunch! After taking a bite of my hubby's avocado toast, it has become my go-to! dish! The avocado is very ripe and tastes like guacamole with 2 perfectly poached eggs and sweet caramelized onion resting on thick slice of country toast. Request a steak knife for cutting through the thick bread (mildly annoying to do with a butter knife!) Pretzel Loaf (5/5) - The fluffy and buttery loaf was scrumptious and didn't even need the side of butter with it (it was so moist!). French Toast (5/5) - The french toast with toasted almond granola with fresh berries, mascarpone maple cream, and crispy corn flake crust hits the spot and a decadent dessert for breakfast! It tastes like a coconut donut! Both my son and I devoured and polished up hubby's toast! Kids meals (5/5) - Generous portions of both the scrambled eggs with home fries and also the french toast (comes with 2 pieces while the standard portion comes with 3 pieces) is a great deal and very affordable! Side of Home Fries (5/5) - While I didn't have the best experience with tepid fries on my 1st visit, I'm glad I gave them another try the next visit. The crispy potatoes with grilled onions and red peppers were pipping hot, fresh, and on point! 4 Cheese flatbread (5/5) - The white garlicky cheesy pizza with dollops of ricotta cheese and spinach bursting with flavor and my pick! The flatbreads are thin and crispy, perfect for sharing with a group or can serve as an entree (8 small pieces come in an order). Chocolate Trifle (5/5) - The decadent hazelnut creamy mousse hit the spot, perfect for sharing and a sweet ending to a great meal! Mushroom Flatbread (4/5) - Quite hearty loaded with different types of mushrooms and pesto sauce topped with arugula. If you enjoy mushrooms go for it! Note the flatbreads stay pretty fresh for about 2 days, the veggies are wilted and soggy after that. Garlic Naan with Cauliflower Hummus (4/5) - Flavorful app of za'tar spiced cauliflower with garlic toum and pine nuts served with housemade garlic naan. The naan is very thin with the consistency of a tortilla, don't expect a fluffy Indian naan! Still tasty though. Mac and Cheese (3/5) - Bold cheddar flavor and I wish it was creamier. Eggplant Parmesan Sandwich (2/5) - While the sandwich looked promising with fluffy ciabatta bread, I wasn't a big fan of the pesto sauce and the soggy eggplant with breading falling apart. Marinara sauce would have paired much better. Wish the sandwich came with a choice of fries or salad. The default salad wasn't exciting. Side of Fruit Salad (2/5) - $5.50 for sad unripe fruit (strawberries, melon, cantaloupe) and tart shriveled blueberries. Side of Bacon (1/5) - The bacon was cold. How is that possible? The cocktails are a hit/miss. I I really enjoyed the Blackberry Margarita and fortunately didn't have a bold tequila flavor. I Not a big fan of the Boro Spritz (taste like orange pedialyte) or the Strawberry Mojito (not well balanced). They weren't worth the hefty $13 price tag. T The $5 Mimosas at brunch are a great deal. Happy hour is only outdoors in the high top area and around the bar inside (M-Fri 4-7pm with $2 off flatbreads and apps). Shout-out to the manager, Rori, who is always super polite and accommodating. While we made reservations for outdoor seating on Mother's Day, it was a bit chilly and getting packed inside. He quickly seated us inside. Great food and service!

    Huevos ranchero (way too bland)
    Cherie O.

I got the Bistro Omelette which tasted okay but nothing special along with a salad that was pucker up acidic. I thought I had plenty of veggies in my omelette consisting of cheddar cheese, mushrooms, carmelized onions, and spinach. Hubby ate my salad and agreed that it tasted like they forgot to add oil to the dressing. He had huevos rancheros but he had to douse it with cholula sauce. I forgot to mention that I had to add a lot of black pepper to my omelette. Paul, our server, was nice and made a few recommendations. The place was clean yet not as welcoming as our brunch place back home.

Huevos Rancheros for me, Bistro omelette for my wife. Place was nicely upscale and we were here for Sunday brunch. Menu was somewhat limited, and flavors were slightly bland (I doused mine with hot sauce, Wife with ground pepper). Except for wife's side salad, which had extremely acidic dressing. Presentation was very nicely arranged, and our waiter, Paul, was friendly and helpful. Parking in the nearby parking garage can be validated so first hour is free. Also veterans are eligible for a discount, but you need to ask, it's not written anywhere.

    Chimichurri Steak
    Susie G.

Had a very enjoyable dinner at Circa, we did not have a reservation but luckily there was outdoor seating available. I ordered the cocktail featured on their summer menu and it was lovely and refreshing. For dinner I got the Four Cheese Spinach flatbread and it was perfect. My companion ordered from the Gluten Sensitive menu, Chimichurri Steak with garlic mashed potatoes on the side. It looked amazing and he inhaled it. Our server checked on us frequently but without disturbing us. The air was a bit cool and breezy outside but it was a Saturday evening and inside was rather noisy so we were happy with our seating.

    Ahí Tuna nachos
    Dazia H.

I had the ahi tuna nachos and the steak salad. The salad looked so good I just dug in and forgot to take a photo! We sat outside and it was the perfect amount of breeze but warmth from the heater. The service was really good and the food and drinks were even better. I will 100% be back

    Ashlee A.

Lovely spot that's perfect for girls night, especially with their bar/inside + outside seating. Attentive service and the food is good, especially the spinach flatbread! Even better is the ranch (could swim in it).

Fried Chicken Sandwich with Parmigiano-Reggiano fresh herb french fries
    Delano P.

The service was very attentive. I appreciated not having to wonder where our host was. I got the Fried Chicken sandwich and substituted the sweet potato fries with the fries that come with the Steak Frites (excellent move on my end). I recommend the sandwich! Super juicy and the overall presentation was pretty tasty. The bread used for the buns is a silent heavy hitter. Strongly recommend for a business lunch at the boro.

    Braised Short Rib
    Kelci M.

Consistently good food. No frills. Braised Short Ribs: 7/10. The meat itself tasted like pot roast to me but the mashed potatoes with red wine jus was divine!!!!! I'd love to get a steak with these mashed potatoes in the future. Brussel Sprouts: 8/10. Blasted to perfection! It needed honey and balsamic to really take it to the next level but not bad!

    Short Rib
    Eastie T.

The ambiance is Modern and the place was buzzing around 6 in the evening. Loved the service, attentive and helpful! The food was good, infact it came too fast, before I even got my cocktail. Prices are expected for the area, but for the portion felt a little higher, would've been a 5 star otherwise

    Salmon
    Emma S.

SOOO good! We got the calamari, zaatar hummus, steak frites, and salmon and everything exceeded our expectationsz atmosphere is a little noisy, so be aware of that when coming! Service was great as well, our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend!

They have a few tables with umbrellas for cover during the day and even some lighting for nights. Food: The steak and sushi combo was interesting. The sirloin bites were small, but good, the sushi was mid - just not enough tuna on the crispy tuna rice and not enough flavor. The pesto spaghetti (Shrimp and Scallop Spaghettini) was good, but came with only two shrimp and a handful of the smallest scallops I've ever been served. The salmon entree was cooked well. Drinks: The cocktails were the highlight of the night. Several good margarita and martini variations on the menu that were perfect for the weather. Service: This was the worst part of the meal. Our server seemed to be frazzled the whole night. Twice during the meal we had our drinks delivered to the wrong table. The manager verbally apologized, but took nothing off the bill. It wasn't just our table though - we saw several of our server's tables get the wrong food or drinks. It also took a really long time to get water refilled at the table which was an issue in the heat. Verdict: 6/10. If they ironed out the kinks with service and dropped their prices by 10% on select dishes (tiny sirloin bites and subpar crispy tuna rice for almost $50 is madness), they would probably be an 8/10. I'll probably give them one more try and just avoid some dishes.

Delicious Indian restaurant - great happy hour and brunch spot!…read more The happy hour from 4pm-7pm Monday-Fri is an amazing deal. I ordered 2 dishes and a cocktail for under $20! I requested for the Paneer Tikka Flatbread (not on the menu)- vegetarian version of the Chicken Paneer Tikka Flatbread. The naan pizza was delicious, it was stuffed with cubes of paneer with a side of Tikki Masala dipping sauce. Highly recommend it! You can get the Paneer Pizza next door too! The Paneer Tacos were filling and fun to try, but large chunky blocks of paneer. While I enjoyed the spicy mayo sauce, I wish the paneer was cut up into cubes. It just felt a bit heavy with the paneer. The Spinach Artichoke Fritters (4) were tasty. The Mango Mojito and the Mumbai Mule cocktail weren't that good, but it honestly it's hard to complain when it's only $6/drink. The unlimited weekend brunch at $38 is a great deal and well worth it! You can choose from over a dozen Indian fusion dishe - as a bonus mango lassi, chai, and soft drinks are included! You can order 2 dishes/person at a time and the servers hastily swing by to clear your plates and place your next order! Between the 3 of us, we ordered almost conquered the full brunch menu and had a delightful brunch feast! The food had a spicy kick, but not overpowering and wasn't greasy. The portions range from small, bite-size apps to full, large entree size. There's a lot of vegetarian dishes on the menu with a few non-veg as well. There's a good balance between traditional Indian dishes and Western fusion with a hint of American flavors/presentation. My favorite stand-outs: - Aam Chat Papri with crispy Papri pita like chips with mango, chick peas, and potatoes smothered in yogurt and chutney, and topped with spicy garam masala mix - Chana Bhatura with chick pea curry and fluffy, bubbly fried bread. Large portion. - Spinach and Artichoke Fritters - Crispy bite-size balls filled with creamy spinach artichoke dip, 4 come in an order and perfect for sharing! - Aloo Bravas - Crispy, diced potatoes very reminiscent of the Spanish Patatas Bravas with aioli sauce and mild masala spicy kick - Butter Chicken - My friend enjoyed it, solid full entree size. I didn't order or try it in, but it looked pretty tasty and could easily why she made a happy empty plate! - Nutella Bread Pakora - Tastes like a bites-size Nutella fried donut! So good we ordered another one! - Helluva Hallawa Trio - I enjoyed sampling the 3 types of Hallawa, ranging in savory (carrot) to more sweet and milky (my favorite). - Mango Lassi - The sweetness of the mango lassi helped to balance out and absorb the spiciness of the food. - Masala Chai - Great ending to a meal, perfectG caffeine pick me up! Paired well with the Nutella bread Pakora. The other dishes on the menu were fun to try, but would probably skip and save room for my faves: - Aloo Sabzi and Katchuri - The dense hollow shell katchuri (similar to a round empanada) made of dhal lentil smothered in Aloo potato curry sabzi was very filling and dense. After a couple of bites, I threw in the towel. - Egg Burgi and Paratha - The masala spicy scrambled egg on paratha flatbread was kind of bland and a very small portion. - Mango Mimosa - While the mimosas were only $4, it was quite tangy and didn't pair well with the meal. I wish fresh mango juice was used instead of mango flavored juice (tastes like Izzy). The lunch buffet (Mon - Fri 12pm - 2:30pm for $23 wasn't the best experience. Admittedly, I came to the buffet at 1:30pm and the food was tepid and sadly overcooked under the heat lamp. The plates were very small and it was hard to fit a bunch of food. I went to the buffet at least 3 or 4 times to try out the dishes in search of the perfect bite, which I sadly couldn't. There were 5 main standard dishes with 3 vegetarian dishes (Dal Makhani, Aloo Ghobi, and Mehti Paneer) and 2 non-veg featuring both chicken dishes (Butter Chicken and Chicken Curry) and a galore of fried fritters/pakoras (spinach, onion, potato) with a couple of new rotating stations with Pani Puri (not much going on) and Spinach Tikki and Fish Pakora fried fritters. The Mehti Paneer was quite greasy with a coat of grease at the top and the paneer was pretty stiff. It wasn't tender. The Dal Makhani was bland. The potato aloo potatoes were brittle as they were sitting under the heat lamp too long. The best part about the meal was the fluffy naan, which was made-to-order. I enjoyed 2 rounds! Order the Masala Dosa crispy! When we got it the 1st time on the lunch special, it was a bit rubbery and soggy. After the server asked us a few times whether we liked it, my hubby relented and told him the honest answer. The server got the dosa re-made to go extra crispy, which did the trick! The masala potatoes paired well with the dosa. I wasn't a fan of the Sambar. I was verrryy shocked by the taste, almost tasted ritualistic it was so oddly gross. Lol Best service I've ever had at an Indian restaurant and food was delicious per usual of Indian food. One of my top 5 foods. Go, enjoy!!!

The staff explained they prepare omakase for a set number of guests, so they couldn't accommodate us last-minute. That said, the manager and his staff, our wonderful server completely turned the experience around with their kindness. They comped part of our meal, brought out desserts for my husband's birthday, and even treated me to a mocktail. It was such a thoughtful gesture and made the night feel really special. The service was warm and attentive, and we still had an amazing time. I've already booked omakase for next week and can't wait to come back! The place has great vibes. Highly recommend!! And the HANDROLLS WERE THE BEST WE'VE EVER HAD!!! forgot to mention how amazing the food was. Yummy!

I usually am enamored with speakeasies, but it was really hard to love this one…read more 1. Reservations - I've been with OpenTable and other restaurant online booking systems for decades but this is a first for me. They have two separate OpenTable listings (as noted in other reviews). I was clear in that i just wanted an after work chill happy hour. I booked for 4:30. After promptly showing up at the wren for my 4:30 appointment I was told, Naisho room doesn't open until 5 pm.... So why did you let me book for 4:30?!?! No explanation. No apology just "you're early..." 2. I promptly dropped $70 for drinks and an appetizer at the Wren bar to hold me and my guests over. It wasn't bad but that's not what I was hoping for... at 4:30. 3. The service to the speakeasy was great. The "gym stag" had our 4:30 and let us in at... 5:03 pm... 4. The waitress inside the speakeasy was super awkward and off putting. She really needs a class on etiquette. I ordered quite a bit right off the bat but my guests slow roll throughout the experience and she didn't seem too happy with that. Taking away our menus doesn't encourage us to order either. You charge $22 for one tea sandwhich but can't afford to print out more menus? The menus were also pretty dingy and I hand sanitized after using them. 5. Food. Was mid at best. Not at all authentic Japanese. I had the oyster shooter, temaki, Wagyu toast, Wagyu quesadilla, and mocktail. The oyster shooter was too sweet. And you could only taste the oyster and caviar at the end. Mostly as an aftertaste. There was a "too sweet" aspect to most of the food. The temaki was okay and I liked the crunchy bits but they went too far with the plastic wrap on the seaweed. The plastic wrap gave me Japanese 7-11 onigiri vibes. You do that if you aren't efficient enough to get the food out to guests at once and the seaweed will get soggy. I'm not sure if it was for a "fun factor" for people who are unfamiliar with grocery store onigiri in Asia but in a restaurant it should be done for you. The Wagyu toast was a HUGE disappointment. It was Sooooo sweet. I filet barely taste anything except the gross, sweet jam. And the toast was soggy and the texture of the bread felt prepared the day before and like refrigerator. It was not toasted at all. The star was the Wagyu quesadilla with beef tendon chips. It was the cheapest item on the menu and the most filling and delicious. 6. Drinks were very good. Expect about $20 a pop... $50 for the Japanese whiskey is highway robbery. Nothing really "rare." I have most bottles on the kitchen counter from the Virginia ABc or DC Costco. You can buy an entire bottle of the Japanese whiskey at Costco for the cost of one serving here. Overall, the Naisho room felt like all hype. For over $100 I was still pretty hungry. If the food tasted good I would have ordered more but I didn't think it was worth it. You get a nice view but it's the same from most of the capital one building. Same view from the brewery. Don't waste your money. Go elsewhere. Plenty of better happy hour spots for much much less considering if you stay for more than two hours you have to pay for parking (we did becuase, well, our reservation was at 4:30...)

O my! I don't know where to start…read more.. Chris L. was our serve on this trip and he had wonderful recommendations, like: 1. Golden hour cocktail - It was just lovely! It tastes like the best rum punch you've had. It was perfectly sweet, but not too sweet. Beautiful in color. So good I had to sip this one very slowly...like it was the last or only one ever made. DELICIOUS! He also recommended the: 2. Smoked Old Fashioned and it was served to perfection as well. Nice and smoky and smooove. Then...we had the lobster tacos. I don't like lobster. Well, I didn't like lobster until I tried these tacos. To be honest, the lobster tasted like crab legs and the taco was dressed in all fresh ingredients (avocado, charred corn, cilantro, and a fresh flour tortilla) Alright...then next up was the Panko Crusted Sole. It is not filleted tableside because it is pan seared in the kitchen. It was very filling. I think I had three nice-sized filets. It came pretty much with a light and fresh tomato salad. You should do it! Then there was the Crab Cake, which was good. It was in the sweeter end. It was a large portion. It does not have jumbo lump crab meat, but don't let that deter you. Christ also informed us that the "Accompaniments" (sides) could be ordered in half sizes and indeed we - I - had a half size of the Au Gratin Potatoes. They were very smooth, flavorful, and creamy. Also, shouts out to Oscar who held down the water service and the other little things in between that also made this evening even better. The ambiance...I can't wait to head here again on Friday! I went in Saturday evening and the 3 Bears (band) was the live musical entertainment. They were AMAZING! To be honest, I just want to drop in and get a salad and drink...but everything else was so wonderful that $300 later, I'm writing this review. It was worth every penny - and don't forget to tip the band yall! That's it.

First, the au gratin potatoes were tasty and even better when I reheated them the next day. The dumplings first came out cold, and when they were replaced, they didn't have much flavor. I ordered the lemon tart to take home, and I really wish I hadn't. It lacked flavor, and the crust was not crisp. I was very disappointed. Service at the bar was a little hit or miss. The bartenders were very busy, and the waiters would walk by, avoiding any eye contact. Also, the host needs tips on greeting guests. Instead of asking how he could help us or if we had a reservation, he just stated that they were booked all weekend. During our time at the bar, only half of the tables filled up.

We popped in and took a while to read the menu options. I landed on a giant Italian Combo, a beer, side of fries, and a tiramisu. Everything was amazing. I ordered a sandwich and wanted to make it a combo but they only do it with fries, no chips. For most, thats an awesome deal - I just personally wanted chips. They have the fancier drinks and not your typical soda options so keep this in mind. My roasted turkey sandwich was $14.95 to start, and toppings like pepper relish cost extra (I feel like a spread should not be half a dollar but sure). Meat quality was good and bread felt fresh but just a little hard to chew. For basically 16$, there was only two thin slices of provolone. Compared to some of the photos I saw, the sandwich was a bit lacking on the toppings of meat/cheese. People super friendly and service was quick. They had tons of desserts, pasta salad, and a few actual pasta dishes on the menu too. I'll have to come in to give them a try for a cheesesteak or the caesar salad wrap next.
