We came to Evelyn Rose for a friend's birthday and were blown away. The service was top-tier from the start--they even printed "Happy Birthday" on the menu, which made the night feel so special. The highlight of the meal was definitely the Kangaroo Tartare. If you're hesitant about it being gamey, don't be! It had a perfect balance of sweetness from the caramelized onions and a distinct, smoky flavor from being torched. For the main, I had the Pan Seared Wild Petrale Sole, which was beautifully cooked and fresh. My friend loved the chicken, and we ended the night sharing a delicious dessert. I'll admit, this review is a little biased as my husband and I were frequent diners at Clarity when it was owned by Chef Jon Krinn as that is where we first encountered Chef Nick and Sam and have been following/supporting them ever since the Clarity transition. We definitely went to the Dabney quite a bit when Sam was working there. But, as for Evelyn Rose - we couldn't be more thrilled. When the Bazins announced that they were selling their restaurant, I honesty couldn't think of better new owners, and they have just nailed it. Food: The food is excellent. Always well-seasoned with lots of choices for all different appetites and preferences. A few specific touches that I personally love - half portions of pasta, options on an a la carte menu as well as a tasting menu (every evening!) and the ability to often order courses a la carte off the tasting menu. Flexibility is the name of their game, and it is truly appreciated. Chef Nick really has a way with fish, and that's frequently what I order there, but honestly, I think only one time did I have a dish that I felt was sub-par (I had a meat dish that was slightly overcooked and a tad dry) but that's a few and far between occurrence. Last night I had the rockfish dish which was perfectly crisped, and the sauce and beans that accompanied it were just perfect. My husband had the gnocchi which was light and fluffy. Service: Sam, the co-owner and Sommelier, is really just amazing at hospitality. He is friendly, warm, and always looking to ensure you are having a great experience. He's put together a small, but well-curated wine list - nothing overly expensive, and wines that you'd 'expect' to see as well as hidden gems. He's always willing to offer advice on wine pairings - not just for the tasting menu but the a la carte menu, which is always appreciated by my husband and I. Aside from Sam, generally, the service is attentive most times we have dined there - most of the time, if the service is lagging a bit, it's usually because they are packed! Vibe: Evelyn Rose has a cozy, warm vibe. Lots of exposed wood and blue and gold tones throughout the restaurant. Do note that it can get loud, especially on weekends when they are packed. Other: We are very blessed to have such an excellent restaurant down the street. Don't take my word for it - we were at Albi just a few nights ago and when we mentioned to the bartender we live in Vienna, they said "oh, have you been to Evelyn Rose?" (seriously!) The menu had a good selections of food and drinks options. The pre-fix tasting menu was a hit for ~$80 and featured 6 courses. Everything was decisions and the total amount of food was more than enough. My companion had fresh-made pasta that was great as well. The wines are very reasonable priced, we had a bottle for $85 that sells in stores for $50. The interior is simple, yet somehow when you are inside, it feels cozy. Excellent meal. Spectacular service. Warm and inviting atmosphere! Every dish was well thought out with supporting flavors and textures plated with the main element. Not a single bite that was unremarkable. Each dish was approachable but still elevated if that makes sense. The "crust" on my rockfish was torched I believe rather than simply browned in a hot pan. This made for great flavor and texture contrast. The tamale my dining partner ordered was an absolute smash - a little heat a little sweet and again a nice finishing cook. The place always seems extremely busy so the service can be a little slow. I asked for a straw multiple times and got one after asking 2-3 times and our server forgot to put in our crab salad order... The main demographic is older white people. Lovely restaurant in the heart of Vienna. Came here on a Saturday night during opening time with a friend. We were told that they did not have any open tables until 7:30. However the entire time that we sat there there were plenty of tables open. Not sure if they were understaffed or what the issue with tables are. My friend and I were seated at the bar which was pretty packed. We were served the focaccia bread which was delicious and paired with an olive oil. I ordered the scallops as my main entrée. While I found the dish very tasty it was not executed well. The spaghetti squash was all lumped up and the flavored didn't meld well. Jokes aside, this place is great for a family dinner, celebratory meal, girls dinner, or just a night you don't feel like cooking and went to dine out; the place is perfect for all occasions. I love how you're not limited to the whole tasting menu and can order of it if you want to, you can also order an appetizer or entree portion. Their menu seems to constantly rotate with special attention to seasonal items incorporated into the menu as well. Our server Sean (not sure about the spelling, sorry) was fantastic yesterday; super attentive but also gave us space if we were in the middle of a juicy topic and made some great menu and wine recommendations, he even packed up our leftover portions so neatly as well! I love this restaurant, I have now been there two times and every single bite has been fantastic. It is loud being that it's in the heart of Vienna and it's packed. If you have trouble hearing I would not visit unless you come early. The food I've had the dry aged burger and the cobia and my wife had the pork chop. The wine list is thorough and the ports are great, they have a flight of ports which I loved each one differently. Service is on point and with how busy it's always been they do a great job. It started with a fried crab croquette, light white fish topped with fish roe, mussels in a curry base sauce, lamb prepared two ways, and 2 desserts. Upon arrival the host quickly sat us after confirming our reservation. Daniel our server made great recommendations, was knowledgeable about the menu and service was excellent. I had the tasting menu all of which was great, wife had soft shell crab and the halibut. Overall, 4.5/5 but will bump to a 5/5 for good service and the fact that we all enjoyed our food here. Additionally, we love that the bathrooms contain feminine products, hair ties, etc. which we don't usually see at most restaurants. This most definitely is a huge plus. I do think it was a bit overcooked, but the grain mustard vinaigrette definitely helped along with the braised swiss chard (don't sleep on this, I thought it was decent). Surprisingly, I quite liked the baby turnips which was plump and juicy and went well with the bass. CHAI CHEESECAKE - 13 "Did they forget to give us half the cheesecake?" My manager saw the size of the cheesecake and was shocked at how small it was for the price. Overall, the chai flavors were strong and the texture was on the denser side. The chai crumble topping was delicious. My teammates ordered the DOUBLE EGG YOLK PAPPARDELLE PASTA and HOUSE GROUND DRY AGED ROSEDA FARMS CHEESEBURGER (a bit messy, though) which they all enjoyed. Their bathroom is significantly colder than their main dining room, which we all noticed. Nonetheless, the food is prepared well, and we were particularly impressed with the complementary rosemary focaccia bread and the olive oil. Reservations were booked out between 6-7:30, so highly recommend making a reservation. VIBE: ~Super cutely decorated with a rustic but upscale feel ~Perfect for date night ~There is no signage (that I saw), so it may be easy to walk right past SERVICE: ~Our server was super nice and attentive ~Checked in on us just the right amount FOOD: ~Focaccia with olive oil (complimentary bread service): The focaccia had a nice crisp top and was so soft and spongy on the inside. Great bounce. The olive oil was so flavorful on it's own, you could tell it was high quality. Also nice to get complimentary bread, as most places now have started charging. ~Venison Tartare with Foie Gras (3.8 by itself, 4.25 with Foie Gras): Foie gras was an upcharge but so worth it. It was seared nicely but has a little stringy part. The venison tartare was so unique and had great flavor. Not too gamey. ~Pappardelle with lamb ragu - half order (5/5): we ordered this as basically an appetizer, but the full order could probably be an entree. The noodle were perfectly booked and had a nice chew. The flavor of the ragu was phenomenal and perfectly seasoned. It also really had the unctuousness that coated my whole palate wonderfully. ~Dry Aged Roseda Farms ribeye (4.5/5): The steak was seasoned so well! The edges were the best part, but the inside was a tiny bit tougher. The steak also had such a nice beef flavor which really highlighted the quality of the steak. The hollandaise was delicious and not overbearing. The vegetables were remarkably cooked. ~Rockfish (4/5): again, the fish was cooked and seasoned so well. The skin was nice and crisp, and the flesh was juicy and flavorful. Same about the vegetables as above. ~Fingerling sweet potatoes (5/5): this side was my FAVORITE part of the meal. I may be biased because I love sweet potatoes, but this was a style I've never had before. It comes with a variety of sweet potatoes (yam, white, purple) and the different cuts on it gave it a different mouth feel with every bite. The hot honey was so good. This dish is on the sweeter side, but the kick in the honey balances it out. ~Vanilla duck egg ice cream (5/5): So creamy and so delicious ~Chai cheesecake (3/5 for cheesecake itself; accompaniments were 5/5): Was a little disappointed that the cheesecake was just a normal cheesecake. Was expecting it to be chai flavored itself or at least have like a chai sauce on top. It came with a chai crumble which was delicious. Also came with roasted persimmons, whipped cream, and a persimmon sorbet which were so novel and also delicious (not too sweet). The service was impeccable and it was wonderful to meet staff and owners who truly put their heart and soul into customer service; making suggestions, checking on you so your experience is very positive. We ordered a lot of fun appetizers. It started with the WHOLE MILK RICOTTA CAVATELLI pasta w meat sauce, the focaccia, the ROHAN DUCK CONFIT TOSTONES*, and the English Pea Torchon spread. All was flavorful and very tasty. It was impressive to see their creativity to each of the appetizers and we also had the tuna tartare which was so fresh. For dinner I had the ribeye hamburger on your party. Had the veal chop, the pork ribeye and a salad. Everything was cooked perfectly with lovely presentations and excellent taste finally for dessert. We had the ice cream and the soufflé, both were creamy in terms of the ice cream and the soufflé was decadent. We had an incredible time and will definitely go back. You need to try it. I recently had a large business dinner and decided to host it here. I used their Resy system to make the initial reservation, but later had to change it to increase the number of people and since I was moving from 5 to 7, the site wouldn't do it and advised to call. It's tought to call this restaurant during the day! I tried many times and only got a voicemail, which advised to leave a message or text them. I texted them and waited a while without hearing back, so I texted again and they finally replied. Very cordial person I was texting, thankfully, because I was in a bind to either increase the party size here or find a new place - either way, I needed to know immediately, not when they get a chance to reply. These types of reservation policies can be frustrating. Once we were there, everything was great! The venue is beautiful and they definitely get packed, especially on a weeknight! They have a very interesting menu loaded with all sorts of amazing entrées, appetizers, and definitely save room for dessert, because they have an amazing dessert list! Service was decent and they can accommodate dietary restrictions, as we had some in our party. Our server did an excellent job checking with the kitchen and providing feedback based on dietary restrictions. The food we got was definitely made with fresh ingredients and tasted great! What I really love about the food is that the chef shows restraint so nothing is too salty or too sugary 1. Scallops - perfectly cooked 2. 1/2 order of the cavatelli. Nice al dente texture and great sauce. The meatball was just a tad bit dry but still good 3. Gnocchi - very tender and nice pan seared crust on the outside paired with some perfectly cooked veggies 4. Pork chop - this was still a good pork chop but probably my least favorite out of all the dishes. 5. Fennel and lemon panna cotta. This makes my top 10 desserts that I've had. The herbal smell and flavor of the fennel paired with lemon was just perfect 6. Torte with duck egg ice cream. Usually comes with a brownie but I subbed in the torte bc I don't like brownies. The duck egg ice cream has a very similar texture to frozen custard. I highly recommend making a reservation in advance. We started with two appetizers, one of which was the daily special: Tuna and Charred Spanish Octopus. We really enjoyed the sauce that accompanied it, especially when paired with bread. I couldn't stop eating it. For the main course, I had the ribeye, which was nicely seasoned and cooked to perfection. I also liked the hollandaise sauce that came with it. I hosted my son's first birthday party here and had a wonderful experience. We were able to rent the entire space during lunchtime, and the venue was absolutely gorgeous with a warm and inviting atmosphere. I chose Dinner Option C, and despite it being a lunchtime event, they kindly accepted my request and even allowed me to add one more entrée selection. They didn't have a set kids' menu, but they created one just for our event, which was so thoughtful and helpful. Since it was a traditional Korean-style party, I also asked for extra tables for decorations and specific arrangements based on our guest count. The staff accommodated everything perfectly. Sam, the owner, and the entire team were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the event. All of our guests were very happy with both the service and the food.
