it was such a breeze to plan a dinner for 8 people. our server was excellent - i hope i'm not misremembering but i believe his name was mahmoud? i hope that's not too far off because he was genuinely so nice. we were in the private-ish dining area to the right of the main entrance. we immediately broke a tealight holder (it was nestled on a crack between two tables) and they were soooo nice to us about it. i LOVED my blueberry rosemary lemonade and ended up getting a second one when i finished mine. the pastas were divine and so fairly priced - i would def return and just get those and be so happy. my friend was even debating ordering an extra to bring home lol. the server made a great rec to order a bunch of plates for sharing - we ended up getting the ribeye, the elk special, the fried softshell crab, the sole, and the cod, as well as beef fat french fries, acorn squash, and corn sides. all of these items were so delish, but like i said, if i return i'm laser focused on those pastas. the softshell crab was just ok in my opinion, not a huge portion and not too interesting. my friends all had an amazing time and we would return again! read more

We started with the scallops and then had the gnocchi and pesto pasta. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and you could really tell that it was house-made. They also have a tasting menu that looked amazing and is definitely on my list for next time. The service was wonderful too. Our waitress was so friendly and made the whole experience even better. What an incredible first experience at Evelyn Rose! From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in for a great evening. As soon as we entered, General Manager Sam welcomed us like old friends. After we were seated, my wife asked if he had previously worked at The Dabney, and sure enough, that's where we recognized him from. It was great catching up as he shared what he'd been doing since then and how his dream had always been to open his own restaurant. Seeing that dream come to life made the evening feel even more special. The restaurant was busy (definitely make reservations), but we were able to enjoy cocktails while we waited for our table. My Grey Goose martini with bleu cheese olives was phenomenal and set the tone for the rest of the meal. We started with the Bison Tartare and the Ceviche. The bison tartare was leaner than traditional beef tartare, and the crispy chips added the perfect savory crunch. The ceviche was incredibly fresh and bright. For our entrées, I had the ribeye while my wife ordered the Dory. The ribeye was cooked perfectly--juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. My wife couldn't stop talking about how buttery and delicious the fish was. To finish the evening, we ordered the 100-Year Port Flight featuring 10-, 20-, 30-, and 40-year ports. Vertical tastings are such a fun way to experience how a wine evolves over time. The 40-year was absolutely outstanding, and the 20-year was another favorite. The 10-year was enjoyable but still showed its youthful character compared to the older vintages. The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between upscale and relaxed. The main dining room can feel a little tight when the restaurant is full, while the bar area has a few TVs for anyone wanting to catch a game. One thoughtful touch that stood out was the women's restroom being stocked with amenities like hair ties and hair clips. We noticed they also offer a tasting menu, and after this experience, that's already on our list for our next visit. We had an AMAZING experience here the other night! A special meal for our anniversary. The service was excellent - lots of suggestions, asked about dietary restrictions and needs and lots of attention to detail. We had a lovely table for six, enjoyed that it was round and we could all have a nice conversation while dining. Our food was outstanding as well. A few recommendations of appetizers including the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese that we all loved. They are known for their homemade pastas and offered a half size portion so you could try both- couldn't pick a favorite, each different and delicious! One of guests had fish which they loved and another had the ribeye and enjoyed it as well. Was excited to try this place out with some of my cousins. It gets pretty busy and very loud during dinner time. It's a casual yet somewhat elevated ambiance? The server we had when we were there was not great. I would give him a 2.5/5 for service but the food was definitely the highlight for us. Some of our favorites were the soft shelled crab, scallops, and lamb chop. We had a tartare app that was really good but came with chips that were hard to eat with. I'll admit, this review is a little biased as my husband and I were frequent diners at Clarity when it was owned by Chef Jon Krinn as that is where we first encountered Chef Nick and Sam and have been following/supporting them ever since the Clarity transition. We definitely went to the Dabney quite a bit when Sam was working there. But, as for Evelyn Rose - we couldn't be more thrilled. When the Bazins announced that they were selling their restaurant, I honesty couldn't think of better new owners, and they have just nailed it. Food: The food is excellent. Always well-seasoned with lots of choices for all different appetites and preferences. A few specific touches that I personally love - half portions of pasta, options on an a la carte menu as well as a tasting menu (every evening!) and the ability to often order courses a la carte off the tasting menu. Flexibility is the name of their game, and it is truly appreciated. Chef Nick really has a way with fish, and that's frequently what I order there, but honestly, I think only one time did I have a dish that I felt was sub-par (I had a meat dish that was slightly overcooked and a tad dry) but that's a few and far between occurrence. Last night I had the rockfish dish which was perfectly crisped, and the sauce and beans that accompanied it were just perfect. My husband had the gnocchi which was light and fluffy. Service: Sam, the co-owner and Sommelier, is really just amazing at hospitality. He is friendly, warm, and always looking to ensure you are having a great experience. He's put together a small, but well-curated wine list - nothing overly expensive, and wines that you'd 'expect' to see as well as hidden gems. He's always willing to offer advice on wine pairings - not just for the tasting menu but the a la carte menu, which is always appreciated by my husband and I. Aside from Sam, generally, the service is attentive most times we have dined there - most of the time, if the service is lagging a bit, it's usually because they are packed! Vibe: Evelyn Rose has a cozy, warm vibe. Lots of exposed wood and blue and gold tones throughout the restaurant. Do note that it can get loud, especially on weekends when they are packed. Other: We are very blessed to have such an excellent restaurant down the street. Don't take my word for it - we were at Albi just a few nights ago and when we mentioned to the bartender we live in Vienna, they said "oh, have you been to Evelyn Rose?" (seriously!) The menu had a good selections of food and drinks options. The pre-fix tasting menu was a hit for ~$80 and featured 6 courses. Everything was decisions and the total amount of food was more than enough. My companion had fresh-made pasta that was great as well. The wines are very reasonable priced, we had a bottle for $85 that sells in stores for $50. The interior is simple, yet somehow when you are inside, it feels cozy. Not a single bite that was unremarkable. Each dish was approachable but still elevated if that makes sense. The "crust" on my rockfish was torched I believe rather than simply browned in a hot pan. Went to Evelyn Rose for our anniversary on a gift card we had received. Went a bit above the $200 on the card for two of us with tax and tip. The place doesn't look very different from when it was Bazin's, though the acoustic panels on the ceiling may be new, and welcome. Food was very good -- we both had the scallops -- and nicely served and plated. It's fun when there are a few "mystery" ingredients in a dish. No charge for the very good focaccia bread. We were comped a dessert for our anniversary, but only after we had ordered a dessert to share (they had hinted, but not told us we would get something). The carrot cake is wonderful! All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and would go back for special occasions. (Their prices are a bit above our usual range.) That labyrinthine garage is still abysmal! However the entire time that we sat there there were plenty of tables open. Not sure if they were understaffed or what the issue with tables are. My friend and I were seated at the bar which was pretty packed. We were served the focaccia bread which was delicious and paired with an olive oil. I ordered the scallops as my main entrée. While I found the dish very tasty it was not executed well. The spaghetti squash was all lumped up and the flavored didn't meld well. I love how you're not limited to the whole tasting menu and can order of it if you want to, you can also order an appetizer or entree portion. Our family had a phenomenal dinner here tonight. Everything we had-- ribeye, chicken, cavatelli, and chopped salad-- were delicious. Particularly noteworthy for me were the chicken and salad. The chicken was seasoned and cooked perfectly, with a thin crispy outer layer and a juicy/tender core. My plate was spotless clean without a trace of the delicious cauliflower puree by the end of the meal. I also appreciated that they source ingredients from local farms for the chopped salad. They truly care about the quality of food because every single ingredient in the salad was absolutely fresh. What makes this place so special though is the service. It started with a fried crab croquette, light white fish topped with fish roe, mussels in a curry base sauce, lamb prepared two ways, and 2 desserts. If you have trouble hearing I would not visit unless you come early. The food I've had the dry aged burger and the cobia and my wife had the pork chop. I do think it was a bit overcooked, but the grain mustard vinaigrette definitely helped along with the braised swiss chard (don't sleep on this, I thought it was decent). Surprisingly, I quite liked the baby turnips which was plump and juicy and went well with the bass. CHAI CHEESECAKE - 13 "Did they forget to give us half the cheesecake?" My manager saw the size of the cheesecake and was shocked at how small it was for the price. Overall, the chai flavors were strong and the texture was on the denser side. The chai crumble topping was delicious. My teammates ordered the DOUBLE EGG YOLK PAPPARDELLE PASTA and HOUSE GROUND DRY AGED ROSEDA FARMS CHEESEBURGER (a bit messy, though) which they all enjoyed. Their bathroom is significantly colder than their main dining room, which we all noticed. Reservations were booked out between 6-7:30, so highly recommend making a reservation. Not too gamey. ~Pappardelle with lamb ragu - half order (5/5): we ordered this as basically an appetizer, but the full order could probably be an entree. The noodle were perfectly booked and had a nice chew. The flavor of the ragu was phenomenal and perfectly seasoned. It also really had the unctuousness that coated my whole palate wonderfully. ~Dry Aged Roseda Farms ribeye (4.5/5): The steak was seasoned so well! The edges were the best part, but the inside was a tiny bit tougher. The steak also had such a nice beef flavor which really highlighted the quality of the steak. The hollandaise was delicious and not overbearing. The vegetables were remarkably cooked. ~Rockfish (4/5): again, the fish was cooked and seasoned so well. The skin was nice and crisp, and the flesh was juicy and flavorful. Same about the vegetables as above. ~Fingerling sweet potatoes (5/5): this side was my FAVORITE part of the meal. I may be biased because I love sweet potatoes, but this was a style I've never had before. It comes with a variety of sweet potatoes (yam, white, purple) and the different cuts on it gave it a different mouth feel with every bite. The hot honey was so good. This dish is on the sweeter side, but the kick in the honey balances it out. ~Vanilla duck egg ice cream (5/5): So creamy and so delicious ~Chai cheesecake (3/5 for cheesecake itself; accompaniments were 5/5): Was a little disappointed that the cheesecake was just a normal cheesecake. I recently had a large business dinner and decided to host it here. I used their Resy system to make the initial reservation, but later had to change it to increase the number of people and since I was moving from 5 to 7, the site wouldn't do it and advised to call. It's tought to call this restaurant during the day! I tried many times and only got a voicemail, which advised to leave a message or text them. I texted them and waited a while without hearing back, so I texted again and they finally replied. Very cordial person I was texting, thankfully, because I was in a bind to either increase the party size here or find a new place - either way, I needed to know immediately, not when they get a chance to reply. These types of reservation policies can be frustrating. Once we were there, everything was great! The venue is beautiful and they definitely get packed, especially on a weeknight! They have a very interesting menu loaded with all sorts of amazing entrées, appetizers, and definitely save room for dessert, because they have an amazing dessert list! Service was decent and they can accommodate dietary restrictions, as we had some in our party. The service was impeccable and it was wonderful to meet staff and owners who truly put their heart and soul into customer service; making suggestions, checking on you so your experience is very positive. All was flavorful and very tasty. It was impressive to see their creativity to each of the appetizers and we also had the tuna tartare which was so fresh. For dinner I had the ribeye hamburger on your party. Had the veal chop, the pork ribeye and a salad. Everything was cooked perfectly with lovely presentations and excellent taste finally for dessert. We had the ice cream and the soufflé, both were creamy in terms of the ice cream and the soufflé was decadent. We had an incredible time and will definitely go back. You need to try it. Sat at the bar for Thanksgiving dinner. We went because we used to like Clarity, the chef's previous restaurant. I recommend the butternut squash tamale appetizer. It was unique. My husband cleaned his Turkey Plate. We brought our own bottle of wine. Corking fee was $30. Wait staff was friendly and professional. Heard good things about this restaurant, so decided to check it out with the family. They change their menu constantly based on the season/availability of ingredients. Overall I would say the food was decent. There were some dishes that were great like the rib eye, pasta and charred corn, but everything else was just ok. Our server was just ok. The other servers who stopped by and the manager were extremely nice though. Don't think it lived up to the expectations for me. Go try for yourself and let me know what you think! read more
