Came here for a group event - this place is just a few steps walk across from the McLean metro stop. The area seems to be still under development but in the same complex there is also a huge Wegmans and the Watermark hotel. The pub is quite large and spacious and decor is modern - big windows, high ceilings, a long bar and spacious comfortable seating all around. There is a second floor and apparently a rooftop but not open at the time we were there. We had a bunch of apps - nachos, artichoke dips, honey glazed chicken etc, all quite tasty the artichoke dip in particular is a must have. Great venue for group gatherings.

Good drinks and decent bar food selection (good sandwiches and Mac & Cheese) with plenty of space, great for groups and family-friendly! Bands play during some weekdays. I came here 3 times - dinner, take-out, and brunch with kiddos. There are over a draft beers on tap. The Hot Butter Rum cocktail was warm and delicious, a nice boozy dessert and perfect for the winter. Kids enjoyed the brunch with crispy Fench Toast Sticks with cornflake and cinnamon crust. I snuck in a couple sticks myself! The Breakfast Burrito was very bland with scrambled eggs, cheese, peppers, and onions, (opted vegetarian style without the sausage). It was missing sauce. The home fries were lukewarm and the Biscuit was a bit dense. The Veggie Sandwich offered during lunch/dinner was quite tasty with a fresh veggies - roasted red pepper and mushroom with arugula and melty cheese with hummus stuffed inside fluffy Ciabatta bread. The flavors blended well together and it was surprisingly the sandwich was easy to eat and didn't fall apart. Hubby enjoyed his pulled pork sandwich. The Mac & Cheese was creamy and cheesy, and on point both at brunch and take-out! Glad I upgraded my side to the Mac & Cheese for the take-out order. The Fried Mac & Cheese Balls and Crispy Cauliflower Bites were both underwhelming and pricey. The Mac & Cheese Arancini balls were very bland and the sauce was the best part. The Crispy Cauliflower Bites didn't taste like tempura, were light breading. The aioli sauce was the best part. They weren't worth the hefty $13 price tag and just get a side of Mac & Cheese! Fries are best eaten at the restaurant - skip them for take-out. They were a bit lukewarm and bland. While the food is decent and not the best, the atmosphere and service is great and makes for a good, fun experience with family and friends.

Stayed at the Watermark Hotel in the same building so had to check out the new (to me) brewpub. It was pretty slow when I stopped in but the bartender was welcoming and attentive. The space is catered more to the office crowd being a good spot for lunch or an after-work happy hour. The beer was exactly what I expect from Starr Hill: decent but nothing to write home about. The food, however really let me down. It was overall really bland. The cauliflower had basically no seasoning and was just a basic flour dredge. The aioli was the saving grace for that. The pretzel was an all around disappointment. You won't convince me the "cheese" was just watered down Velveeta and the mustard was just the basic, fast food yellow kind. The pretzel itself was just a brioche bun in the shape of a pretzel. If you busted that out at an Oktoberfest you'd get your lederhosen card revoked. Go for the beer and to hang with people. Skip the overpriced fair food.

Our musical journey to see The Avett Brothers at Wolftrap landed us at the Watermark hotel. Highly recommend. We got in kind of late and took a quick walk downstairs to Starr Hill. Live music getting ready to start, which we love. We got Mac and cheese bites, bbq and chicken sliders. Nothing overly fancy or impressive, but we're good. After 9pm, you have to order at the bar. Waiter:bartender was nice. Not a busy place, but it was a Thursday night, so not surprising. Lots of options on the menu. Pretty big, clean place. Convenient to Capital One Hall. Overall, we enjoyed!

Went here after playing mini golf at the perch. I got chicken tenders, fries, extra honey mustard, and an espresso martini. It was 21+ after a certain time, which I didn't know. Then it was seat yourself and order at the bar. Didn't have much direction so we were confused for a bit but it all worked out. Live music was cool.

Bbq sandwich but the fries are the real starr here.

It's a sports bar. Plenty of TVs and decent food. If you are headed to Capital one hall for a show there aren't a lot of options around so this is a good place to stop. If you're looking for a place to hang out with friends, you're in the wrong starr hill. You want to head around the corner and up to the top floor for the starr hill beer garden On a nice day it can't be beat.

For a joint team happy hour, we went to Starr Hill Brewpub last week since it was way too hot to enjoy anything at the Biergarten. The service was quick and we got our drinks and food super quickly. I got to try a couple drinks! The ESPRESSO MARTINI was way too sweet, so I didn't really enjoy it. The PINEAPPLE CRUSH was perfect for me -- not too sweet, incredibly fruity and carbonated. Drinks are pretty strong here! We all got a bunch of appetizers and the ones I got to try was not bad. The CHICKEN WINGS were a bit dry but the blue cheese dressing helped. CHICKEN TENDERS with the honey mustard sauce was quite good. The NACHOS were a bit underwhelming, but it had a good amount of cheese and toppings. The HUMMUS PLATTER was alright, nothing special. I am not a huge fan of pickles, but our group really liked the FRIED PICKLES and we got several orders of it. For lunch, I ordered the SURF AND TURF, which is marinated flank steak drizzled with a mushroom based sauce. There is also a generous serving of mac and cheese in between the steak and the jumbo lump crab cake. I thought the steak was fine itself, and not a fan of the mushroom sauce which was way too salty. Also did not like the portobellos that were stir-fried with the steak since they had a weird flavor. I enjoyed the mac and cheese because it wasn't too salty. I was not a fan of the crab cake and didn't enjoy the seasoning or flavor. Overall, the food was just OK. Their drinks are better for sure. Everything here is pretty expensive. Service was good!

    Nachos
    Nachogirl1 ..

Nachos: Picture this, something's changed, you can feel it in the air. It's autumn. It has such a way of creeping up on you. Quietly, then all at once, like it was never gone. You forget about it until it grabs hold of you, out of nowhere, and then it's just sensory memory. You know it in your bones, and you just trust it, it fills your lungs and you just let it. It's too perfect of a day. They play all the right songs, the bourbons just right, and for once, you stayed til the end of happy hour. After avoiding so many, this one feels different, maybe because it was for you. Ofcourse you only said yes knowing there'd be nachos. Chilli nachos, not something you'd normally go for but they were surprisingly good. Subtle change doesn't hurt, does it? And there's something about a happy hour after work. Everyone caught between their work selves and who they really are beneath the formal attire. But then the ties loosen, the sleeves roll up, and the laughter spills just like the drinks. unsteady, honest, uncontained. It all blends together. The fatigue, the relief, the brief unspoken coexistence, the ease of being known. Maybe that's the thing about change. It starts small, vulnerable, like choosing the chilli nachos, or saying yes to a happy hour, letting loose, and realizing you don't mind the difference at all. Maybe your coworkers, the bartender, the setting sun, maybe they all know something you don't. That change, even the kind that pulls you away, can be kind. That there's goodness waiting, even when you can't see it yet. Sometimes you get so caught up in the dark corners of your own life, until you catch the glow from someone else's joy and trust it long enough to step forward. Anyway, the nachos are good. Gone before you even realize you'd stopped thinking about leaving. Leaving the hour, leaving this town, the state you've been in for so many years. Youre terrible at change, but the bartender made you the best drink youve had in your life and for a moment, youre just there. Not in the future, nor in the past. Youre meant to be there, just in that moment. And so maybe wherever you're headed next, is also exactly where you're meant to go. You can't know it beforehand, but trust it when you're there. All else: Leaving feels so wrong, but God it feels so right. So long Virginia, you've been good.

We stopped by Starr Hill because I saw they were doing free Christmas cookie decorating, and we figured it was a great reason to try this place out. The brewpub is located (indoors) beside Capitol One Hall. We were able to find free 2 hour parking in a lot nearby on a Saturday. They have two floors, so the day we went they were doing cookie decorating on the second floor and the first floor was being used as normal. After we decorated our cookies, we got a table on the first floor to grab some food and drink. They were very busy, but we were able to get a table in less than 10 minutes. We both got the hot buttered rum drinks, and they were one of the best drinks I have had. We then shared an order of cheese fries which were cheesy and delicious, and had a good amount of toppings. I really enjoyed our visit here and will definitely be back!

Each order comes as one large deboned piece of meat, which is then cut into bite-sized pieces--easy to eat by hand or with a fork. They're available in a variety of flavors. I ordered them dry and got several sauces on the side to mix things up. Highly recommend. Seating - The restaurant has a surprising amount of seating. There's just as much indoor seating as there is outdoor, and possibly even more inside thanks to the bar and high-top tables. It's a great spot to start your night, end your night, or enjoy happy hour with friends after work. Service - For a bar, I thought the service was really good. Multiple waiters checked in on us, and we never had to wait for water or anything else. The recommendations they gave were great, and they stayed attentive throughout the night--even though it was moderately busy when we went. Pro tip: Be prepared to sit inside if you're hoping for a meaningful conversation--the street noise outside is quite loud. Between the main thoroughfare and the neighboring restaurants in the same alcove, it can get pretty noisy. If you value good conversation, you'll definitely want to opt for indoor seating. Pro tip: There isn't much parking in the area, so give yourself an extra 5-10 minutes when planning your visit.

The biergarten has ample canopy seating with long benches and tabletops, perfect for groups! You can't make reservations. They have a strict policy of no outside food or drinks. The ambiance is very casual and there's no table service. Rather than ordering through a QR code, place your order at the bar and then you'll get a text alert when the food is ready for pick-up at the long table closest to the bar. The line is always pretty short and you can get a drink within 5-10 min, the food takes longer and even up to 1/2 hour for fries. I would stick to the beer on draft, the cocktails can be hit/miss depending on the bartender, the draft drinks tend to have better consistency. The Wildberry Mule cocktail and Pina Colada Sangria and Peach Seltzer on draft were my picks while the Bourbon Smash, Passionfruit Mojito, Pina Colada Mojito, and the Passionfruit Seltzer were misses. On the flip side, the bartenders poured a generous amount of Prosecco for Mimosas, much appreciated! The bottled Angry Orchard apple cider is generally my go-to. There's always a mocktail on the menu (came in handy when I was pregnant!) The new battered fries are so much better than last year! The menu is limited with simple bar food (bbq pulled pork sandwich, burger, grilled cheese, hot dog, fries, kettle chips). Wish there were more vegetarian options like charcuterie board, hummus and crackers, nachos, mac and cheese, etc. While I give credit for having a Veggie Burger on the menu, it's sad and disappointing. It has a very smoky meaty flavor (from the grill, not the patty) with lackluster toppings - the vegan cheese is disgusting. I would swap out the kettle chips and pay the upcharge for fries. The doughy pretzel sticks are quite salty and a step up from the movie theater. They are good for absorbing the alcohol! Despite these minor complaints, I love coming here with family and fries. So glad The Perch opened up, Starr Hill Biergarten is a great spot to kick back and relax with a beer or 2!

I've been wanting to try the fried green tomatoes next, so I'll definitely be back for that. They used to have a vegetarian burger that I loved, but since they took it off the menu, I've been trying their other options like the beet/apple-style burger. My go-to move now is swapping the standard bread and getting it on a potato bun instead, it's chef's kiss!! The sauce they use ties everything together perfectly and the fries? I love them every single time . For drinks, I usually go with the hibiscus soda or their soda or the day. It's refreshing and a nice change from the usual options. For dessert, their apple pie is a 10/10. I've had it multiple times and it never disappoints. The key lime pie is more of an 8/10 for me, but still solid. My husband swears by their chocolate cake. The ambiance is another reason I keep coming back. It's alm, cozy, and perfect for a date night or a relaxed dinner. Service can be a little hit or miss. Most visits have been smooth, but the last time we went, things were a bit slower. Our waiter was delayed, and our fries came out a little cold. That said, when it's not busy, service is usually quick and attentive. All in all, I'd give Founding Farmers a solid 4 out of 5.
