I can count on one hand the number of memorable experiences I've had at hotel restaurants/bars, and this is one of them after adding the carnitas sandwich at AKB. Sure I was really hungry but the bartender wasn't lying. I got the feeling he was serious when he told me it was good. It wasn't like "I recommend the carnitas it's my personal favorite" because they were trying to push the carnitas. Nah, the look in his eye told me he really liked that sandwich. I mean, I still expected it to be perfectly neutral, based on the week I've spent in the area - everything is just missing something. Like every menu in the area was crafted by consultants. B+ execution with zero passion. Consistently ok. But thats pretty much everywhere these days - when's the last time anyone had an actually memorable sandwich in an upscale yet perfectly generic geography? I expected it to be just good enough to not be sad about spending $18 on meat you can get for $0.19/lb in normal times. No it was both huge and delicious. It was actually good carnitas - wasn't dry or bland. I could be wrong but it tasted like they bring in an actual pork butt and slow roast it vs bringing it in pre-made and putting "slow roasted" on the menu as that would still be technically accurate. And PILED on a perfect French roll, lightly toasted and seasoned. It sat on the bar in a bag for like 15 minutes while I finished my drink and it wasn't even soggy when I got back to my room. It was really good, guys. No notes. Oh, and the chips were good too. Crunchy and just the right amount of chewy and give in the middle. Again, I came in with zero expectations. My room is fantastic, but the food reviews and the fact that the menu at the bar was missing half the things from the in-room QR menu had me worried. 100% if you're staying here, eat here at least once. 3.5 stars relative to everything else around here is absurd. read more

Geeesh Spanish Shrimp Scampi - I can't describe this at all, it was super freaking delicious and portion size was HUGE! Mind you we had dinner reservations and he ordered this appetizer just to have something to nibble on but my goodness, this was way too much food. We canceled Friday dinner plans because I was so full! Full but so content. The food was sooooo yummy. It's not the first time that I stay at The Archer but it is the very first time that I dine at AKB. I was a bit skeptical to eat here based off of previous reviews but this morning the restaurant looked so inviting, so I gave it a go. My waitress was Maritza. She was so sweet and very attentive. I ordered the sunrise breakfast and a few mimosas. I asked for my eggs to be scrambled soft and they were done to perfection... This may seem like such a simple yet straightforward breakfast but you'd be surprised how many fine dining establishments can't even scramble eggs or get the bacon just right! Cajun pasta was really good. We just came from the fancy sushi restaurant next-door and we wanted to get something filling so we got the Cajun pasta as well as calamari. The calamari was a bit soggy, but when mixed with Cajun pasta made for a really good seafood pasta. The Cajun pasta was creamy and saucy and had a good amount of seafood in its own right but on its own, a bit too fatty and the sauce for my liking. The portion was HUGE--perfect for two people. For that reason, I wish that the calamari was a bit dryer so that when we mix the two together, it wouldn't have tasted even more fatty. Next time, if I were to come here, I would just order a one thing of the Cajun pasta and share it with my significant other. read more

I have eaten here a couple of times now as a guest of the Archer Hotel. On my first stay, it was Christmas Day and I had my dogs along, so needed to order room service as opposed to going to the restaurant. There are not too many vegetarian options on the menu, and what I had in mind for the holiday was something like a cozy pasta and salad, so I asked if they could make the Cajun pasta without meat (it normally comes with sausage, chicken and shrimp). Since I wasn't getting any price break for skipping the meat, I asked if I could have the chicken from that pasta served in a completely separate container on the side, planning to give it to my dogs as a holiday treat. I also asked if they could make the wedge salad without bacon. The pasta and wedge salad were both very good, but the salad was somewhat ruined by them putting the chicken from the pasta in the salad box. As a vegetarian, I didn't want that at all. This meal via room service cost me a good $60 or so. On my second stay, I had a $25 food/beverage credit so went downstairs for breakfast. There was a sign saying you could scan a QR code and order for service in the beautiful hotel lobby/living room, but there was no code to be found so I went into the restaurant. I ordered coconut milk overnight oats with berries, and a coffee. Both were very good but the texture of the oats was not quite right, too wet as if they had been made hastily and not allowed the time to soak up the liquid. This is a really nice space aesthetically and the hotel overall is so upscale and beautiful. Everything has been OK, but I feel that for the environment they are located in they can do better. read more

Swanky hotel bar with good cocktails and overpriced, subpar food. As we live in the area, I went here a few times and was underwhelmed by their breakfast and over-priced happy hour (only $2 off on apps/starters). Decent restaurant if you're staying at the hotel, but would skip it otherwise. Note the hotel is not open for lunch - only breakfast until 10am and then for happy hour and dinner after 4pm. They have special deals on food on certain days along with happy hour. The staff was nice on the 4 occasions that I came. The cocktails - Apple Orchardrita tequila based cocktail, Blackberry Mint Mule, and Guava Blanca cocktails were on point! They were refreshing and not too sweet with fresh ingredients. The Mule was made of blackberry puree and the Apple Orchardrita was made from apple-infused tequila. Guava Blanca cocktail was refreshing with guava and passionfruit with a nice foamy top. I preferred the Guava Blanca cocktail over Nelson's Lady cocktail, which was a bit more bland and subtle. The Wild Mushroom Flatbread pizza was crispy, thin, and flavorful with different types of mushrooms, spinach, cheeses, and glad I added the onions! I preferred it over the White Primavera Pizza with chunky slices of eggplant and peppers. The crunchy thick-cut Kettle chips were delicious (a bit pricey at $13)! I wasn't a fan of the French Onion or the cheese, spicy Pimento dip - both dips were heavy on the Mayo. The Spinach Artichoke Dip was very bland with a smoky flavor and tasted like there was meat in it. The tortilla chips (looked to be housemade?), were also very bland and undercooked around the edges. The dish was a disappointment all around. The Avocado Toast looked deceivingly appetizing. The avocado was a bit over ripe and overall the toast with diced tomato and egg was bland and fell a bit flat. The Yukon Breakfast Potatoes were thick dense potato wedges and not the cubed home fries I had anticipated. Hubby wasn't a fan of the lackluster Ham and Cheese Omelet, it tasted like deli meat instead of ham off the bone. The hand-cut thick crispy fries are super thick (2x as thick as steak fries) and topped with parmesan cheese and rosemary. I would come back again for the 1/2 flatbread on Sundays and try more cocktails along with some kettle chips! read more

Food was fantastic! Everything was made quickly and cooked to perfection. Cocktails were so yummy! I highly recommend the chips and dip! Onion dip was to die for. It was served cold. Kettle chips were nice and crunchy. Shrimp appetizer was so good and was not spicy. The house made sauce paired well. The wait staff were so kind, attentive, and helpful! They provided great recommendations. Made cocktails in a timely manner and was consistent. The ambiance was good. They were a little crowded around 5-7pm. Everyone was polite and noise levels didn't get too loud. Cozy dining areas that can accommodate large parties. Bar was large and can fit many people. Came here for quick drinks and some food with friends. The drinks were really good. We all enjoyed our individual cocktails. We also got a pizza and the crispy brussel sprouts which were both delicious! The pizza dough was kind of a flatbread which was perfectly crispy and chewy! I will come back again to try their other drinks and food. I will say, our server was very slow in coming to take our orders so we did a bit of waiting around. My stay at the Archer was absolutely amazing! The staff is very friendly and one of the perks for your stay is the $25 food and drink credit! The bar is beautiful and gives a very cosmopolitan vibe. The manager took my order which I took back to my room. The house smoked wings were delicious but I forgot to ask for ranch dressing. The street tacos were delicious and very filling. I hate giving 2 stars but I was hoping this would be a go to spot in the Tyson's McLean area but it is certainly not. I have adequately tried both the bar and restaurant three different times. My most recent visit reconfirmed that both the prices and their high perception of themselves is way too inflated. In summary the food is bland, overpriced and lacks imagination for the price. Imagine Applebees but three times the price. Recently, I ordered the tacos and a draft beer. The tacos were bland and the beer selection lacked any excitement. I later ordered an old fashion cocktail and this was again a disappointment. Meanwhile the service was a bit mechanical and they didn't seem enthusiastic about what they were serving. My friend noticed she was being stared at by two of the servers making her feel very uncomfortable. I'm not sure what this was about but it lacked professionalism. I have tried both the restaurant and bar three times expecting much more each time because I want support the businesses in the area but sadly disappointed in the high prices, weird behavior in service and rather bland food. The service is efficient but now brutally robotic. Someone comes by with an iPad, takes your drink order and comes back about 10 minutes later and slaps the drink on your table. For the tasteless food, cost, and really apathetic service I would not recommend. It's a shame because it has a lot of potential being right next to the Tyson's metro. read more

This place JUST opened! They had plenty of staff and the service was impeccable! The bartender who served us, asked our liquor preference and recommended cocktails as well as provided samples of liquors of interest. The cocktails were perfectly balanced and worth the higher price tag compared to some of the other cocktails available in Tysons. The vieuxe carre was like an elevated Manhattan- it was smooth, sweet, and perfectly balanced. The Appalachian Smash was candy in the form of an alcoholic beverage in the most perfect way. We got the calamari, which was good but not nearly as good as the cocktails. It came with three dipping sauces- marinara, a chipotle (too smoky for me), and a garlicky aioli(sheer perfection). It was a small portion of calamari, but a good size for sharing as an appetizer for two. The bacon wrapped jalapeño as well. They were not too spicy, but had a few bites that had the perfect kick. Most of each jalapeño was just nice and creamy though. The pizza was nice and crisp. The topping was flavorful and delicious and the crust was perfect. I would definitely recommend. read more

Somewhat walkable, but area is still being built out. They do have complimentary valet parking. I had wanted to try this place for a while, but never had the opportunity. I was under the impression that it was a full restaurant, but really it is more of a cocktail bar w/ a light menu. Drinks, appetizers, pizza, and light dinner items. I had the Ahi Poke bowl, which was very good, very balanced portions of tuna, greens, veggies and dressing. My friends steak wedge salad was good, but she said the pork belly was bland. Her husbands burger was perfectly grilled med-rare and juicy. Our cocktails were also good, we had two rounds. I didn't really see the tab, as my friends picked up the bill, but based on the location, I'm sure it wasn't cheap. The food was very good, but don't expect anything innovating or sophisticated. From the very beginning of me booking my stay on the wrong days through booking.com and me calling the hotel and speaking to an angel by the name of Arleen and her fixing it on her own without me asking so I didn't lose money on the stay I never would have taken! Bless you! Then from the time I pulled in front of the hotel ( not even checked in yet!) to the time I checked out I felt so taken care of by every staff personnel I came across. They even did something a little special for us since they knew we were staying for our anniversary! Which was super sweet.The gentlemen at valet especially Mr. Abdenour were beyond kind and on point. Never having to wait long for my car and they were super accommodating and sweet. The room was beautiful and clean with a comfy bed and huge window. From the restaurant to the bar was also superb and had great drinks and food with amazing service! I've never stayed at a hotel that was this amazing!! I didn't want to leave and can not wait to return! read more

First time visit, a week after they opened. I'll start with the good. The bartender Rico was very attentive, however his knowledge of overall drinks is limited. Had 3 of the same drink and they were inconsistent. Good but just not consistent. The kitchen on the other hand need some help with cooking times, and consistency too. Had bacon-wrapped jalapeños. They were good, bacon was undercooked. Then got a burger, ordered medium rare and it came out well done. Flavors were good minus the 2 patties. So tried the wings, most were just about cooked until I got to the last one. See the pic. Watching the open kitchen it's clear there's no exec chef checking orders etc. will give them another week to get things together. Had very high hopes. read more

It's a cool hotel bar but their cocktails are way over priced. On top of that they charger $5 surcharge to smoke a cocktail. Are you kidding, 25% up charge of a drink to add smoke to it. I've never heard of this in my life. I would never go back to this over priced average bar ever again. Go to Wren, much better with friendlier staff. Or Randy's who has fair priced cocktails. Archer hotel is a highway robbery, unless you are the type of person who likes to bend over. read more

I wanted this place to be good. A better alternative to the "typical" nice McLean bars (JGs, Palm, Earls, etc...). Nice place but the service (sat at the bar) was brutally awful (on a slow Monday night). The bartender did not make the drinks correctly or quickly and was non-chalant to the point of being rude. I'll give Archer a couple more months and try again after the Holidays. read more

My husband and I were excited to have a new bar/restaurant to go to when we saw that the Archer hotel was finally opened. We went in early December on a Friday night--the bar and the restaurant were busy. We sat at the bar and ordered martinis and a burger and pizza. The pizza oven was beautiful and so we thought the pizza would be good because of it. However, the dough was terrible--so heavy and so we didn't even finish it. The burger, however, was really good and the spot along with the hotel was really nicely designed and decorated. We will return again. read more
