    Beer - IPA and stout
    Jenn J.

Roof top Biergarten across the street from a friend's place at Tyson's Corner. Happy to see dark beers available. So many places skip on dark stouts, which is a crying shame. IPA was great too. Nice terf field for a cool-ish spring night of libations. Ambiance 100. Nice 90s Alternative cover band named Juniper Nights playing when we visited. Very awesome to have a female violinist also sing at times.

Pretty cool spot. We came during the day so it wasn't as crowded as I hear. Great spot for outdoor drinks and catching the summer weather. Seems like they have space for some events like outdoors movies, music and performance. Solid beers.

Food: bartenders were great. My friend orders nachos and we devoured it so fast that I forgot to take a picture. Highly recommend! Service: wonderful bartenders! And huge shoutout to the manager. He's awesome!!! Ambiance: this review is for the BREWPUB. Large two level Brewpub on the street level of the Capital One Hall. It is very clean and plumage the friendliest staff. I really cannot say how much I love them.

TYSONS, Va. - Good - not great but good - selection of Starr Hill beers. Note of caution: no beer flights. Wife's and my beers each were $7. Nice outdoor rooftop venue - tons of seating space and room. Good people watching. Parking in the building parking garage if you're there 120 min or less.

This is where the party's at! Theater sized screen to watch the game, live music, great views, and the cornerstone of the perch. What is the perch you ask? One of the trendiest gathering places in nova. An outdoor rooftop venue 11 stories up. Besides the beergarden, there's mini golf, a dog park, food court, and good times.

Starr Hill is a cute biergarten located in Tyson's at the top of the Capital One building. We got there on a Thursday night, and they had a punk cover band playing so loud that you could hear it from the metro. Unfortunately the singing was not very good, but the punk pop music was still a good vibe. The place was packed, so it was hard to find a place to sit. We ordered a round of crushes (orange and pineapple), and both were good. We also split a pretzel that was delicious. We had a really fun time listening to music on the lawn. They also have a corn hole area, but you are not allowed to bring drinks over there. I would check out Starr Hill if you are looking for a fun and popular brewery in VA.

This roof top bar "The Perch" caught great breeze despite the hot temperature. It is spacious and open, with a stage for the live band, as well as had corn hole and putt putt. The food was ok, I thought the burger was too well done; but it was a big serving, and the fries were typical. It was better with hot sauce. The potato salad was a better alternative to fries. The mango mule tasted good, the regular mule was also good. The service was quick, and they kept the restrooms clean.

When it gets crowded, it's not great for group events since reservations are not a thing. However, the covered and uncovered option is nice. Food was a bit overpriced but solid, especially the sliders, chicken tenders, and fries

I was back at Starr Hill Biergarten this past Thursday afternoon with four others for a happy hour. Either my standards have gone up or the quality of the food here has gone down (realistically, probably both), but I was left pretty unimpressed with my experience this time around. To order, you can go up to the bar to get a drink or food, but have fun trying to read the menu on the screen. Even if you have 20/20 vision or better, you'll definitely be squinting. Also, there's no price tag next to each item, so you have no idea how much anything is. We got a few appetizers to share along with drinks. SOFT PRETZEL STICKS (x4) These were soft, but in the way where it felt like it came straight out of the microwave. The salt was unevenly distributed on each pretzel, so a couple of us had to scrape some chunks off. When we lifted each stick from the food wax paper, we noticed that some of the checkered red dye imprinted on the pretzel. I'm sure the dye is safe for consumption, but really not a good look. The beer cheese was more orange than expected and definitely an acquired taste. I didn't like it much in the beginning, but I found myself enjoying it more as I continued eating. FRENCH FRIES Pretty standard, they're definitely on the saltier side. They're pretty soggy but nothing ketchup can't save. Again, I have pretty low standards for fries, so I'd eat anything as long as it's edible and can be saved by ketchup. CHICKEN WINGS Each order comes with eight pretty saucy wings. The sauce was on the sweeter side. The wings were enjoyable and the meat came right off the bone. I'd recommend these for an appetizer. We got a variety of drinks and I was able to try a non-alcoholic hot cider (not too sweet, and it was perfect for the windy afternoon) and a raspberry sour. It was fruity but not as juicy as I'd like, but it was a favorite among our table. Seems like some of the cocktail making here can be inconsistent. Someone got an old fashion and depending on the barista, it's either half empty or filled all the way to the top.

They have slowly made changes over the years that make this an absolute must visit. What hasn't changed: the outdoor vibes and string lights are as pleasant as ever, and without the crushing crowds and lines that typified this location in their early years, it is a much nicer vibe most days. In my first review, I complained that the menu was very light on German beer options. They offer far more now, including a beer that I do not believe you can regularly find at any other bar in the city: the Weihenstephaner Korbinian, the world's finest doppelbock. It is one of the most delicious beers I have ever had, and they have it here on tap for a very reasonable price. Another positive change: they have a kitchen now with a full menu of food options. Their giant pretzel is a classic, of course. If you're a weekend happy hour chaser, they sell $5 High Noons all day Sunday. One final note: the location is absolutely perfect. Baan Mae has opened next door to the north (a 5/5 dining experience, amazing Thai food), Ugly Duckling is across the street to the south (a 5/5 happy hour and cocktail experience), and Ivy & Coney is right across the street to the east (a DC icon and 5/5 dive bar and football spot), so Dacha is essentially the centerpiece of the perfect night (or whole day) out.

We sat there, chatted with a lady to our left for a few minutes, enough time to register for some "dining" app that promised a $25 credit for the next visit... we sat for no less than 15 minutes as the bartender walked to and from, cleaning and handling service bar orders. Not a look, not a wave, not a word. We left having not given any opportunity to order, much less receive a beer. I promised to never go back. We have walked by no less than fifty times since. Last night, with a few beer drinking friends in town, with four perfect bar stools open, we dove in. We sat for ten mins. I timed it. The Barback was kind enough to give us waters, and the host gave us menus with recommendations... but not a wink, a smile, or middle finger from the bartender... again, I walked out without a beer, and again I swear I will never return. Shame, great beer selection, and cool environment.

Went to Wunder Garten (WG) for a special event on a Saturday afternoon in April…read more They had a great mix of people--local, international, straight, gay, young, and some older folks. At late 50s, we were certainly at the top of the age spectrum; but we felt welcome. We had drinks and planned to have food, but gave up after the event and went to an indoor restaurant the next block up. The first thing you need to realize with this space is that it is an outdoor venue. Not a reason to lower the rating yet--just know what you're getting into. Yes, the Quonset hut is technically a permanent structure; and the cabanas are under cover. However, the hut is less than half the floor space; and the cabanas are all open-front. So dress appropriately. You will probably be shielded from the wind, but forget about climate control if it gets busy. So where did WG lose stars? Let's start with the bar. I asked for a Manhattan made with Woodford Reserve. What I got was a 2 oz pour of Woodford, neat. This was not a 'tall order'. If your bartenders can't mix a drink with literally two ingredients (...plus bitters, so maybe three), then you're just in the wrong business--minus one star. Also, they ran out of one of the beers on their menu. You're a beer garden. You had better have all the beers on your menu or some way to adjust your beer list throughout the day. The other star evaporated when we realized that there was nowhere to eat the food if we had bought some from their food trucks (...clever idea, by the way, replacing a fixed kitchen with food trucks docked to the venue). All the free seating--yes, you have to pay extra for the cabanas--are actual picnic tables. Unless you get there early or pay extra, you will have to stand (...in the weather) ...while you eat. Bottom line: ~$53 for a large mug (1L) of hard cider and a pour of whiskey, consumed standing up in 85 degree F weather. Versus next block: Two margaritas, one soda, one appetizer, two (amazing!) entrees, and one desert brought to us by a lovely waiter and consumed at a clean table while sitting on comfortable chairs in a 72 degree F environment for $122. We may come back to WG for a future event, but that will depend on the weather and our appetite for a standing-room-only experience. As for bringing friends? Nah--we'll just find a picnic table at a local park and skip the premium prices.
