    Loaded fries

This past summer, I found myself visiting the Tysons Biergarten a few times. Once because I had a training session in the area and stopped in to wait out traffic, and on a couple of other occasions I made the painful trek down Route 7 because I have friends who work at one of the many nearby consulting firms, and they seem to like this place. However, you wanna know what Tysons Biergarten really is? It is an attempt to recapture the nostalgia and youth of being your 20's, all while trying to escape the soul crushing reality of being an office drone in the corporate dystopia that is Tyson's Corner. Tysons Biergarten tries so hard to remind people that even if you have to wear an off the rack drab suit, that you can still be cool and hip by hanging out and drinking beer on picnic tables, all while using plastic tokens to pay for drinks - since using cash or credit cards is so early 2000's. There are plenty of other reviews explaining how the token system works, but I am in the majority of reviewers who think it's dumb and gimmicky. The only thing more abhorrent, is the food ordering system...followed closely by the cuisine itself. There seems to be a belief that people only want to interact with kiosks and tablets for services, since talking to a live human to order food is a concept again...from the early 2000's. So walk into the kitchen and then place your order on the tablet hanging on the wall, and wait for the food. Look, I've been to Austria and Switzerland so I have a pretty good idea of what Bavarian cuisine associated with Biergarten's should taste like. The food here, is an insult and not an homage to true European biergartens. The TBG loaded fries are advertised as "fresh fries topped with two different cheese, onions, scallions, and special sauce." Well these fries might be "freshly" defrosted out of a freezer since they were extremely soggy and the special sauce tasted like diluted thousand island. The various sausage platters I've tried aren't terrible, but also nothing special. If you have to order some food, I'd recommend either the jalapeno cheddarwurst or the Kielbasa. Both of these sausages have a familiar flavor to most people, and can be dressed up with some mustard on the side. When I was last here in late August since it was god-awful hot in DC this summer, I was sitting there around 6pm strategically camped under an umbrella for shade, and I watched as legions of folks were walking around with their lanyards from places like CVENT, KPMG, and Booz Allen, just to name a few. I get it. Everyone wants the nice six-figure salary associated with being a H.P.C. (aka Highly Paid Consultant) but not the hours or "golden handcuffs" that accompany that line of work. So in that regard, I give Tysons Biergarten a star for at least TRYING to provide some sort of respite to people after logging a long day at the office. Another star also because after flagging down a bartender at either the upper or downstairs (I recommend the downstairs) bar, the beer selection is actually decent, and at Happy Hour, the prices are really good for Tysons. BTW - forget about parking anywhere near the place. Follow the signs to the parking garage about a 3-5 minute walk away; just remember to bring your parking ticket so it can get validated on your way out.

This place is not bad to have a drink and catch up with friends butttt if it's full or you want to watch a game, be prepared to hold your credit card and the bartender ignore you while time passes by. We went to watch a game and it wasn't too bad, nice summer night with not many people on a Thursday night. We sat at the table and the tv kept glitching so we had to move. We had order a beer and wings but the wings were more bones than meat. The fries were not bad and the beer was pretty good. Our second visit, the bar was full and you could barely order a drink. We went to the outside window thinking this would be easier but 10 minutes later no one helped us. This place needs better service as well as more bartenders. Music not bad at all except if you want to have a conversation, I suggest you don't sit next to dj booth as you will barely hear yourself.

This is a huge Biergarten! Not only do they have plenty of patio space, and I mean plenty, but there are three levels inside as well. The main floor is the bar area with several beers on tap. The kitchen is also on this floor and they serve Biergarten food, sausage! There are a few different types to choose from as well as sides to go with it. They also offer some apps for snacking. The top floor has seating and TVs. I didn't venture downstairs but plan to do so next time I come. When you walk in, you go to the host stand to purchase tokens for the beer or food. The tokens are all the same price, about $9, but the beer pours are dependent on how strong the beer is. If it is strong you get a quarter liter pour, and less strong beer get half liter pours. Aside from German beers, there are some others that you could choose. From the ones I've tried they were pretty good. Supposedly they have an extensive bottle beer selection but I did not see nor try it. They also have liquor if for some reason you or someone in your party do not want beer (but that would be just silly!). I really can't wait to come here in warmer weather and have a nice cold one!

A first visit to this place on a Friday night with a close friend of mine. It was totally packed by 6:00 PM! Parking was a total mess right near the restaurant/bar area. Had to drive around to a nearby garage, which frickin' cost $13 after 2 hours or so! Ridiculous! Besides that, you had to purchase tokens, which were like $8+ each and that was the only way to get Beer or Food items... We each tried a couple of different Beers, which were pretty good. The food menu items were alright, nothing too special. Got some sliders with fries and a pretzel. Didn't really like the sliders too much, since it was a bit undercooked and chewy. The pretzel was cold and stale, so don't know what happened there. The view outside was nice and liked the beer. But overall, it was a so-so kind of experience.

This is definitely one of the cooler drinking spots in NOVA where you forget that you're surrounded by office buildings. My review is only for the beer since I haven't partaken in the food. There's a wide selection of German beers on tap and they're all the same price ($8). The payment system with chips is interesting, but apparently it's similar to what you do in Germany. You purchase your chips at the entrance (and have the option of adding tip if paying with credit card) and each color is for a different item and all cost $8. They also never expire so you can always come back with them! There's also mugs throughout the bar for cash tips as well. In addition to several tables with picnic style seating, there's also a few games such as Connect 4, cornhole, beer pong and big Jenga that you can play with your group. The parking situation isn't ideal since there's a shared lot with 20 or so spaces but there's also a garage about a 5 minute walk away with plentiful parking. Bring your ticket with you so it can be validated.

Very nice chill bar. lots of room where you don't feel like you're on top of people until you get to the basement and want to dance. Large screen around to watch sports and picnic tables outside to sit and have a large group of friends. Will deff be back

Tyson's Biergarten is located in a convenient location easily accessible by metro or car. I came on an afternoon with coworkers to grab a beer and some appetizers. Food wise, it's nothing spectacular but will quell your German beer food craving. I did appreciate that they have an efficient system where you order by iPad and get a text notification when your food is ready for pick up at the window. The beer is fine and they have a fair happy hour. There is PLENTY of outdoor seating, so this is an easy spot to meet with a large group as well.

Bier bier bier!!! This place is probably the best beer garden in the area. Great craft beers, food and value. They have a token system $8 gives you 8 tokens to order food or drinks. You've got the kitchen and a bar upstairs. Downstairs is a large seating area with a lot of local beers to choose from. There's music outside playing. Plenty of seating for all group sizes. We even saw some folks have food catered for a birthday party. Food here is awesome and you have a lot of variety. Don't expect anything healthy though. We had the pretzel, bratwurst, fries and wings. Pretzel here is a must try. Wings are fairly large. Expect a +20 min wait for your finger food. Parking here can be really tight. Try parking at the garage and you can get it validated up to 2 hours. This is a great place to go after work or at night when the weathers nice

First time at this Biergarten. A bit hidden away, but worth it. Located right off of Leesburg Pike, the parking lot right outside is very small, but they do validate for a parking garage right next door. This place runs off a "token system". Everything is $8 a token, which gets you food, beer, or wine. They have a pretty big menu from sharable appetizers, to sausage platters, which comes with two sides. Tried the Jalapeño sausage with pickles and fries. it was very tasty. Everyone who works here is very friendly and very willing to make sure you like your visit here. Beer is very good and HUGE glasses. Lots of outdoor seating, as well as inside. Be sure to stop by during the season!

This was our first time coming here and we had decided to come here on Halloween! They had a trick or treating event for both kids and adults. It was really cool to see everyone dressed in various costumes! For food and drinks they use a token system. Each token is $8 but there are three colors for different items. Red is for food, Blue is for beer/wine, and white is for their cocktails. Food was awesome and it had a feel of Germany inside!

I went here to eat dinner and wound up just having drinks. The downstairs had amateur night for comedy and was pretty awesome! Upstairs had live music and was different than anyplace I've ever been to, you had to purchase tokens for drinks and food which was pretty interesting. Great vibe here, more of a bar to me so that's why we just drank an left. I will return when it warms up. There's lots of tables outside and Im sure this is a great summer and spring spot!

You have to buy tokens to get food or drinks.

Parking is pretty limited, but convenient if you take the metro here. The bar is a short 1 minute walk from the Greensboro Metro Station. The bar is located at the end of a construction zone surrounded by high rises. It's a little confusing and hectic at first. Show your ID at the front door and purchase tokens near the entrance. Each token is $8.48/each. All tokens are the same value for 1 beer/wine/cocktail/food item. They accept credit card via Square. Don't purchase too many tokens, since you cannot return them. U can always buy more throughout the evening. If you want food, get some red tokens. Every item is a red token. Get a menu and a pencil. Check what you want on the paper menu, and then give the menu and tokens to the kitchen staff... they do not bring you the food, you have to keep going back to check. All the beer was fantastic. I would recommend getting a flight. I got a margarita and it was very good. The downstairs had a nice dimly lit ambiance with plenty of bench seating. This is a pretty interesting and different type of place. I would recommend it.

No, no restaurant in any of the 13 states I've lived in has ever allowed outside food. Especially in VA which requires 40% food sales if they sell alcohol.

What time is their happy hour? And how much are their deals?

The biergarten has ample canopy seating with long benches and tabletops, perfect for groups! You can't make reservations. They have a strict policy of no outside food or drinks. Rather than ordering through a QR code, place your order at the bar and then you'll get a text alert when the food is ready for pick-up at the long table closest to the bar. The line is always pretty short and you can get a drink within 5-10 min, the food takes longer and even up to 1/2 hour for fries. I would stick to the beer on draft, the cocktails can be hit/miss depending on the bartender, the draft drinks tend to have better consistency. The Wildberry Mule cocktail and Pina Colada Sangria and Peach Seltzer on draft were my picks while the Bourbon Smash, Passionfruit Mojito, Pina Colada Mojito, and the Passionfruit Seltzer were misses. On the flip side, the bartenders poured a generous amount of Prosecco for Mimosas, much appreciated! The bottled Angry Orchard apple cider is generally my go-to. There's always a mocktail on the menu (came in handy when I was pregnant!) The new battered fries are so much better than last year! The menu is limited with simple bar food (bbq pulled pork sandwich, burger, grilled cheese, hot dog, fries, kettle chips). Wish there were more vegetarian options like charcuterie board, hummus and crackers, nachos, mac and cheese, etc. While I give credit for having a Veggie Burger on the menu, it's sad and disappointing. It has a very smoky meaty flavor (from the grill, not the patty) with lackluster toppings - the vegan cheese is disgusting. I would swap out the kettle chips and pay the upcharge for fries. The doughy pretzel sticks are quite salty and a step up from the movie theater. They are good for absorbing the alcohol! Despite these minor complaints, I love coming here with family and fries. So glad The Perch opened up, Starr Hill Biergarten is a great spot to kick back and relax with a beer or 2!
