Really enjoyed my visit to Screwtop Wine Bar in DC. The space has a cozy and relaxed atmosphere that works well for date nights, girls nights, or happy hour. The frozen cocktail flight was definitely the highlight for me -- getting to try an Espresso Martini, Strawberry Froze, Margarita, and Hugo Spritz all together was such a fun idea. Food wise, the Chicken Birria Nachos were flavorful and loaded, the Mahi Mahi Tacos were fresh, and the Grilled Cheese Sliders paired really well with the tomato coulis. Great spot for a girls night or a date night! I went during the summer and the vibes were great. Plenty of red, white, and pink options, with bottles available for purchase. Walking distance from the Clarendon metro stop. They have flight options with adorable names. I'd recommend the "That's Amore" Italian Red Wine flight. Awesome spot that you can find cool wines and get amazing bites. Everything looked good and as you can see maybe I over ordered but it was so worth it. Everything is stuffed! And these might be the biggest tacos you'll ever have. The crema and salsa are so legit. You can find big name wines as well as smaller hard to find producers. Staff is super nice and are easy to chat with. They have deals on different days and I think taco Tuesday might be the move. You may find it hard to find parking in Clarendon but they have a great parking garage right next door. Don't go to the wrong one though because there is one that's just for loading and you'll get towed! I found it very easy to park near the crate and barrel and walk a few minutes. Decorated to match the season, I had a good time here. I really enjoyed the Thanksgiving themed decorations. All the servers had individualized Thanksgiving themed shirts, many of which gave me a chuckle. The drink selection is impressive. I liked that they had multiple themed flights, and I went for the Pumpkin Pickin Pinots. The wines were from across the country and each was delicious. And they absolutely gave my tummy a happy autumnal feeling. I then had an Irish Coffee that was well-balanced in that the alcohol didn't completely overwhelm the coffee taste (as all too often happens). I was less enthused about the food. I ordered the Mahi Mahi tacos. The toppings overwhelmed the fish and the side sauces didn't really add anything to the dish. I was hoping for food that packed as much flavor as the wine. Had a great time with friends here! Pick a table and you can order from your phone. The place is beautiful, lots of wine options, very lively in there. I ordered a grilled cheese to pair with my Mexican wine flight. They bring a sheet that explains each wine and they tell you where to start and which direction to follow. Love the concept and the ambiance/cool factor of the bar. When we walked in we went straight to the bathroom -one of the workers stopped my husband -" do you have a reservation?" The place had many tables inside and out so i guess she thought we were homeless using the bathroom. I dont think we look homeless-maybe they have a problem with that. Then we sit down and have no internet to scan the qr code for the menu. We tell the waitress that and she never says- hey we have the wireless pw right here . So brings us paper menu. Which is fine but would have liked to know the wifi pw was on the cork on the table since we had to share the paper menu. It turned out well. Food and drinks were great- had paid to park and found out they have use to the public garage next door . Maybe next time will be better. My friends and I came here to celebrate Halloween and it was fantastic! One of my friends and I shared the grilled cheese sliders and empanadas on the happy hour menu, which was wonderful. I got the Virginia wine flight, my mom got the Australian wine flight. It was a very good and varied selection of wines. I didn't know VA has such good wines locally! For food, I got the mahi mahi tacos. Not the best tacos in the world, but not the worst. I wouldn't re-order again. The taco itself needed a lot of seasoning and flavor. I felt very squished and not really able to sit and relax. We had reservations for 11:00am but only two others parties were there. This place is good during the day only. Don't come if you can't make a reservation past 5pm. We didn't have a reservation but were lucky to get a table. We moved to the bar when asked because they "had a reservation arrive" which is totally fine, as we didn't have one and knew we would have to give up the table if needed. The table we left remained open for over 45 minutes as half our party stood at the bar with our cocktails. We ordered and drank two rounds of cocktails before a party sat at the table we left. I totally understand reservations taking precedent, but to stand and watch an empty table be left uncleared for close to an hour feels really unnecessary. read more

A small cozy wine bar with a very few tables and some bar seating. I came with a friend on a weekday night with a reservation, and most seats were taken. We came for happy hour so decided to get a pitcher of the cranberry spice sangria. The pitcher was pretty watered down, lots of ice and there was not much "spice"'; I wouldn't get it again. I also got a glass of sauvignon blanc which was decent for the price (from the happy hour menu). I usually don't have high expectations for food at wine bars. I ordered the burrata bruschetta, and cuban sliders. The bruschetta was ok, small and not worth the price, even the happy hour price. The cuban sliders were ok, could be more flavorful. Perfect spot for wine flights but maybe not food. I made a reservation for a weeknight and the location is quite small so it's definitely something I'd recommend. Our reservation was only for 90 minutes which is fine but I will say it took about 45-50 minutes to get our food so you may be rushing out. I went with a white wine flight and my friend enjoyed the Zinfandel one. The pours were nice and all the wines we tried were good. Now the food is what lost me. We started with the tomato soup grilled cheese app for $13 and the recommended app of the shrimp in the red sauce was so overpriced for 4 shrimp...4 shrimp in a red sauce being 20$ was insane. The grilled cheese was super dry- you could make grilled cheese for a family for 13$ for multiple meals. The fact it wa so expensive so mediocre and took so long made me feel like this is definitely a spot for drinks and maybe a cheeseboard. read more

There are no screw tops at this top tier wine bar! I came here on a Wednesday after work and the place was packed, but that could be because they didn't have a ton of seating. I would highly recommend making a reservation. We were originally supposed to sit outside, however it ended up being pretty chilly (and they don't have outdoor heaters). They were very accommodating and were able to squeeze us in. They have happy hour deals 5-7pm as well as a full menu of wine + food. I got the seasonal cherry blossom sangria and it was ok. It was fruity and a bit sweet, but it was felt watered down. The servers were very knowledgeable and were able to recommend wines based on our groups preferences. We came here because they have a large collection of women made wines and they note them in purple on their menu (and apparently this place is women owned as well)! The food was surprisingly well portioned. The food came out very quickly despite it being pretty busy. We started with a cheese plater that had a good array of cheese and dried fruits. We also got the butternut squash tacos, which although challenging to eat, were very flavorful. We also had the veggie nachos and they were decent- they didn't have many veggies on them, but did have the basic: corn, beans, cheese, and jalapeño. We also got the veggie flatbread, which I would not recommend: it was greasy and lacked seasoning. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking to try out new wines (especially some women owned ones). read more

Okay this wine bar is a GEM. We came on a rainy day and stayed for like two hours enjoying the wine flights and food. This place is absolutely delicious, I genuinely wish I had come sooner. The vibes are sooo adorable, it's such a cozy little bar with plants and large windows. The wine flights were a great deal- they range between $20-30 depending on the flight you chose. But they had plenty of options. I got the red, white, and blue wine flight because I liked that it came with a variety, but my friends liked the rosé flights they got too. The wine was incredible.. but the food was equally worthy of praise! My friend got the charcuterie board and my other friend got a sandwich with a salad. Everyone loved the food!! The sandwich I got was much bigger than I expected and I love that it came with a side of chips, salad, or soup. I got the tomato soup since it was a rainy day and it was phenomenal! The sandwich was pesto, mozzarella, and arugula. So tasty and the bread was crunchy on the outside but soft inside. The sandwich was probably my favorite part of the meal. 10/10, this is an incredible wine bar with good food and fantastic wine. There's several pages of wine to choose from, and everyone can find something they like. You can also get snacks and wine to go if you want to pick up a chilled bottle or a wine bottle off the rack for a picnic or date night. A cozy intimate wine bar that's definitely worth visiting! I recently came on a cold Thursday evening and the place was full minus 2 seats at the bar - score! The place is tiny but I loved the cozy and comfortable feeling as soon as I walked in this place. Once at the bar we were served right away and opted to try some of the flights. I was highly impressed with their options and even more impressed with the service and taste. Depending on your mood they have a flight that's perfect for you. Unfortunately I didn't sample any of the charcuterie boards, but as they were coming out they each looked amazing. Finally, although I can't think of his name, I have to shout out my bartender/server. I was frustrated over car issues and he was able to bring me some peace since he works as a part time mechanic! Cozy wine bar that I visited for lunch with a friend of mine. There was ample street parking on Friday afternoon right in front of the location. However, I almost missed the wine bar because the entrance isn't marked very clearly. The area right inside of the door is a bit crowded too. The service was fine. I don't belive the server introduced themselves or gave us any insight on the menu. The wine list is long which is great for options but I definitely would have appreciated some direction from the server since the menu was long. We ended up getting bubbles on the first page of the menu because it was a bit overwhelming. The beverage was light, refreshing and not too dry. I got a chicken pesto sandwich with tomato soup to accompany my beverage and my friend got a bacon lettuce and avocado sandwich and side salad. We enjoyed and completely finished our sandwiches and sides. They were tasty and filling. We also got a tiramisu and the chocolate lava cake. Both were good but not spectacular.
