a glass of wine on a table
    Roy A.

Close to our home, we pass this establishment frequently and decided to drop by on as a second venue stop since the offer small plates and a great assortment of wine and a few selections of beer on tap. We started with a Portuguese wine and a draft beer and a beer paired with a delicious beer crostini, ricotta, topped with pistachios . Mostly outdoor seating we chose indoor due to the smoke that we brought from California (smoke from Canada fires). The service was spectacular checking on us and explaining that they feature a different wine of the day every week and free wine tasting on Friday 4-7. It's also a small market with fresh brewed coffee, a nice selection of wine and other small products. We loved it as it was very relaxing as we wound down our Friday night.

Fantastic! We just love this place... it's a quaint, neighborhood bistro with such charm. They have wine and select items for sale nestled inside this small bistro. An added plus is they have live music Thursday and Friday evenings. It's a must! We had the burrata to begin with and then enjoyed the meatball sandwich and quiche.

While visiting the nearby George Washington National Masonic Memorial, one of the largest privately-funded memorials honoring the first president in the country, I walked passed Grape + Bean. Located within a quaint and well lit shop, it draws you in. It's as if you've stumbled upon an old general stote. Walk inside and you're greeted by their friendly, knowledgeable and passionate staff. Browse the single room space. There's a lot to see from an impressive and well curated wine section, craft local beer (including sour ales and hard cider), chocolates, ice cream, snacks and any other treat you're craving. They also sell bags of locally roasted Small Planes Coffee. They also sell soups, salads, charcuterie and other takeaway items. If you love to shop local, stop into Grape + Bean. It will make you love where you live.

    My soup portion

Let me start off by saying the food tasted good. Not amazing, but it was fine. My issue is portion size in relation to the price I paid. Got my order to take home so I asked for my soup to be put in a cup. The server was very nice and put it in a 12 oz for me. I opened the cup to see that I had maybe a half full cup of soup for which I paid $10. I at least expected it to be a bigger portion than that for $10. It's a butternut squash soup, not something with super expensive ingredients. Also, a $14 ham and cheese sandwich with no sides? The food, while good, did not justify the prices I paid. May be back for coffee, not food.

    20 Oz white chocolate mocha

Just stopped by for the first time after passing by for years. The gentleman working was warm and friendly. He also made the most delicious white chocolate mocha I've ever tasted - not too sweet, just right. The coffee prices cant be beat. Definitely swinging by again when I'm back in Del Ray.

I wish this place would hurry up and open their coffee bar (coming in June), but what they had was nice. The crostini are *chef's kiss* and although I expected a better selection of wine, what I had was really good. I kind of think they should cut their market space in half and put some seating inside, but their patio seating is busy for a reason. It's an awesome place to hang out.

GAZPACHO! I've been searching for good gazpacho for months, and finally! I'm coming back for that alone. Our server was wonderful - friendly and very helpful. I ordered the salmon entrée and loved it. We also ordered the deviled egg appetizer - yum! Basically everything from the rose to the ice cream sandwich dessert was spot on. We'll definitely be back.

I have previously reviewed the food but since they just started serving coffee I thought I would put up another review of the new breakfast offerings. This is my second time in for coffee and grape and bean is quickly becoming my go to spot for my morning caffeine pick me up. The espresso is so smooth with great crema on top and the iced drinks are top notch. They are still getting fully operational but will soon have frappes as well and they have nightingale ice cream bars if you are in on the food trend and looking for them. I recommend you add them to your morning routine!

Cold prepared food, soups, hummus, eggs, cheese, milk and etc... & etc... to go.

What they offer and service has gone downhill over the years. Seems like helping customers is a burden when I stop in to buy something.

FSG is sandwiched between One Good Tern Wild Bird store and Simply Fish restaurant in an odd layout of a strip mall off Quaker and Braddock in Alexandria. They have a vast selection of wines, ports, cheeses, caviar, and breads. What keeps us going back, and a lot of our friends talk about this, too, is that there is not a hint of pretention there. The owners are so very helpful, patient and kind. The prices are also comparable to bigger stores and chains. And, of course, they do generous case discounts. We normally buy cases of the Le Petit Duc La Porte (glad I'm typing it because I can't pronounce it) and we get a better price at Fern Street Gourmet than what they're selling it for at Whole Foods. Off-street parking is almost always available here. I know they do tastings, too, but have never been to one. If you're looking for a nice pairing for a special dinner or holiday meal but don't want to feel looked down upon like in some other wine joints, check out Fern Street. Clare, from Tallula wine bar, works here part-time, too, and really knows her stuff.

The decor leans heavily into a Gen Z and Gen Alpha vibe, complete with numerous photo opportunities for your social media feed. Think neon signs, floral walls, and playful details like the swing chairs that feel straight out of Ce-La-Vi in Dubai. It's definitely a "sceney" spot, but done with charm -- more fun than pretentious. Whether you're meeting a friend or just stopping in for a pick-me-up, the space makes a strong first impression. In & Out: This is very much a grab-and-go café. There's a small seating area if you want to stay for a quick chat, but it's tight and not built for long visits. Still, the location is great -- perfect for picking up your drink and strolling around the area. It's ideal for a quick coffee run or a midday break rather than a full sit-down experience. Latte Variety: The drink menu is impressive, featuring one of the most extensive selections of flavored lattes and hot drinks available. From creative takes on classics to seasonal specialties, they've got everything: lattes, teas, and even rich hot chocolate options. It's a dream for anyone who loves exploring different flavor combinations -- or wants a cozy drink done right. Pro Tip: - Take off your polarized sunglasses when ordering -- the menu screens are impossible to read through them (learned that one the hard way). - Great spot for photos, a quick caffeine fix, and people-watching.

After taking a look at the candy, gelato and desserts, we settled on key lime pie. The key lime pie was pretty good, though it was perhaps a little too sweet and the filling rather dry. Because we were first time customers, the shopkeeper offered us each a piece of complimentary candy. The candy had a shell filled with a confection containing Japanese citrus yuzu fruit. The shell was coated with dark chocolate. I'm just going to say this was the tastiest, most delightful candy I've ever sampled. Dolce & Bean also sells attractively designed packages of candies. These would make good gifts. We absolutely will be back for more candy and want to try the gelato. One minor thing is that the shop was chilly and I had to put my hoodie on. But heck, aren't most restaurants and stores around the DMV freezing cold in the summer?
