The food has to be some of the most well crafted dishes. Some of the combinations were really odd but really did work well together in the server did an amazing job explaining each dish to us. It is such a cute little eye referring brunch definitely recommend for a birthday brunch.

This is a very beautiful restaurant with a fantastic view. We sat on the balcony. There was a slight breeze, but the heaters helped to offset the coolness. Service was fast and accurate. No complaints. We ordered the meatballs (forgot picture). It was 8 nicely sized meatballs and they were good. I would have liked them to be a little more firm though. Next time I will ask. I ordered a turkey club w/ a side salad. Very good. My daughter got the buffalo chicken flatbread and loved it. My husband got the Cajun shrimp linguine and it was very tasty. I also enjoyed my huckleberry lemonade (forgot picture). It comes in a small jar. Refreshing. We loved this place so much we can't wait to return. The only downside is that the balcony chairs weren't very comfortable, so I'm glad we weren't there long.

On Sunday, I met up with some friends for brunch. We originally had seats to sit outside, but it was raining. Kayla ? Was the host and arranged for us to sit inside. For a 1pm on Sunday, the bar and restaurant was buzzing! I love how Cafe 44 is very modern modern and sleek. For my drink, I had the staycation. It was pretty good. For brunch, I opted for the prix fixe menu. I started with the southern biscuit! It was so delicious ! I ordered the shrimp and grits and it was pretty good. The shrimp was massive! For dessert, I had the key lime pie. Which was the perfect touch. It's helpful to know you go into the parking garage. Once you are on the elevator, you go up to the 4th floor. Parking was less than $5. Cafe 44 is a great place to dine , brunch, get together with loved ones and go on date. Go picture ready as there are nice green walls and a patio with city views!

Came here for lunch with some of my girls to celebrate Social Work Month. This establishment is now called Lula's On The Potomac. The aesthetics are BEAUTIFUL! I do plan to come back during the spring time so I may be able to sit on the patio looking over the water. The server and hostess were very nice and professional. They serve lunch, brunch (weekends only), social hour (happy hour), and dinner. Check this place out, highly recommended!

It was my first visit to Cafe 44 but it won't be my last. This a great place for brunch and waterfront views. It's in an office building so I wan't expecting much when it came to decor, but I was pleasantly surprised when I got upstairs. What a cute spot! It's not a huge restaurant but they've really maximized the space. I had the 3 course fixed price brunch, which included my mocktail, lobster bisque, shrimp and grits, and key lime pie. It was reasonably priced for all the food I got. Everything tasted great. The lobster bisque was rich and creamy. Some bread for dipping would have been nice. The shrimp and grits was delicious. The base was white cheddar grits topped with cajun shrimp, fried egg (I opted for that instead of a poached egg), a Jim Beam cream sauce, and some micro greens. For dessert, I had key lime pie with torched meringue. The pie wasn't as firm as I'm used too but still good. My server was pleasant and made great recommendations.

I loved everything about this place! It is off the beaten path enough, just outside of King Street and on top of an unassuming office building, so it feels like a hidden gem. The view was fantastic with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Potomac, lovely ambiance, great brunch menu, and beautiful patio seating for when the weather is nice. The food was great - especially the breakfast burrito. Great list of cocktails and cocktails. I look forward to returning! Also note that the parking garage in the building is $5 flat rate on weekends.

Before I start the food review I will say do not be tempted to book the patio, especially during the winter and cold months. The description, to me, was misleading. I read it as the patio being enclosed with heaters. They do have heaters but it's not enclosed so you are still feeling that cold air. With that being said, I do plan to come back when it starts to get warmer. The restaurant is pretty small but does have outside parameter "patio" dining. There is also a parking garage ($5) and the elevator goes to the restaurant that's on the 4th floor. The waiter we had was friendly and patient with my party and also tried to honor our request and get a table on the inside. We weren't that lucky. However; after a few sips of your mixed drink of choice, you do start to warm up lol. I ordered the lobster Benedict and it was amazing!!! My friend ordered shrimp and grits and she stated they were delicious as well. We split an order of French toast because the waiter stated it was rich. It was extremely good. With the ease of parking, the delicious food, and the amazing service, I'll most definitely be coming back once the weather starts to change.

The location and views were incredible. We sat at the bar and every staff member were professional, attentive and welcoming. I had the lobster eggs benedict. The lobster was dry, it was ok. The potatoes that came with it were highly seasoned. I would still come back and try other items on the menu.

Cafe 44's brunch is fantastic! It's been on my hit list for while for the next time I visited Alexandria. Celebrating my newly engaged sister/cousin, I wanted to treat her to a memorable brunch and it was well worth it. We throughly enjoyed our girls time she was excited to tell her fiancé that they needed to come here for date night, it's the prefect place for both! What a fabulous view of the Potomac, the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, and even the National Harbor. We chose to sit outside on the chilly Sunday afternoon, the heaters that hung from helped above made you forget that you were on the patio but at times it did become a little too warm, but better warm than freezing cold. For meals there is an option for the three course pre-fixed menu that comes with a brunch cocktail or appetizer, entree, and another brunch cocktail or dessert. We opted just to do à la carte since we both wanted Shrimp & Grits, shared an order of the French Toast Bread Pudding, and a bottle of Rose Prosecco. The Shrimp & Grits were creamy, hearty, and seasoned to perfection and the French Toast was sweet, savory, both yummy. The food and the views were everything! De'Keithlyn our server was welcoming and made us feel right at home. I can't wait to go back and add this to my rotation!

I've been wanting to try Cafe 44 for a while bc of the beautiful view so we came for brunch. I feel like we got the worst seat on the balcony, tucked in the back away from the water view. They wouldn't accommodate us moving to another spot closer to the water view. Boo sad. Another downfall of this place is the proximity to National airport. The frequent planes flying over make it hard to enjoy a conversation. Decor is really strange here... there's turf out on the balcony. Then onto the service and food... our server literally zoned out while my friend was ordering and said, "were you saying something?" Ummm really?! So rude. We had the 3 course brunch. Their biscuits were flavorless and pasty, the shrimp and grits had no seasoning and my poached egg was over cooked. Pretty meh. Overall, it took us about 3 hours to finish our meal (we didn't mind bc we were having fun, but not great service). I don't think the nice view (from some tables) makes it worthwhile to come eat here.

Cafe 44!! So I've been to Café 44 before, pre-pandemic and had a chance to sit looking over the water- for restaurant week. This time we were more on the inside which was a good thing because it was super hot outside. They had so many delicious brunch options to choose from. We enjoyed a three course prefix menu ($35), where I had a house salad, an omelette with my own fixings (onion, spinach, Swiss cheese and chicken) - it came with potatoes and Affogato for dessert !! I love the interactiveness in preparing my Affogato, and can I add that everything was absolutely delicious! It was such a nice vibe! My girls and I had a chance to catch up . If you're in the North Virginia area you should definitely check them out! Keep up with me on my blog page doseofdev.com or my ig @dose_of_dev for the latest !

Let's start with a tip! You may pull up to the building and be slightly confused. That's how you know you are in the right place! Yes, the restaurant is at the top of an office building with an attached parking garage. When you go into the garage, follow the columns that have a green number "44" on them. Apparently there are several buildings attached to the garage (I learned this the hard way), but following the 44 will lead you to the correct building. Parking was $5 on a Thursday evening. Proof of vaccination is required to dine inside. There is an outside area over looking the river that looked pretty. The drinks were absolutely delicious! I tried two mocktails...the Hibiscus lemonade and tropical mojito. So sweet and refreshing! My friend tried the Boss Lady cocktail and really enjoyed it. The meatball appetizer was a fail for us. We sent it back. It was giving baby shower meatballs, but worse. Our entrées were so tasty! We had the short ribs and the Chilean sea bass. The entrées were $30-$32 each. The dessert menu looked amazing but we were full, so we passed. The staff was very friendly. Service was slow but the restaurant was packed as it was restaurant week. Overall, I plan to try this restaurant again for brunch.

Who doesn't like hidden gems? I know I do! This lil Cafe could not be in a more random location.. Top floor of an office building in Old Town but DEFINITELY not the popular part. The building is on the water which absolutely gives it all the pop it needs! We didn't have reservations for brunch but we came just in the knick of time to grab a table because it got PACKED 30min later.. Whewwww!!! Now to the food! We had the Belgian Waffle and Crab Cake Benedict respectively. Both were excellent!! Service was fast and friendly which is always a huge plus. I can't wait to go back but next time I'll avoid the stress and make that d*mn reservation.. Lol!!

    Yes it is!!

Is this restaurant primarily a Brunch experience ? Is there a dinner menu?

Made a reservation for outdoor but now weather calls for rain. Do they take any weather precautions or have tents for this?

Some of the seating is covered, like the tables directly against the railing overlooking the water. Can't remember if the tables have umbrellas.

Love this place but was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease- is there an allergen menu or known gluten-free options?

Hi. I’m glad you enjoy Cafe 44. We do not have a specific allergen menu, but we do offer gluten free bread. Our Executive Chef is happy to accommodate special requests. She just asks that we let her know ahead so she can make adjustments as needed.

Is this place casual enough that you can hang out and study?

    Yes! Great place to study/work/read.

At first, you'll see what looks like just a pizza shop -- but if you head in and either use the side door or walk through and climb a set of stairs, you'll find the speakeasy upstairs. Very cool vibe: dark, cozy, and date-night ready. Drinks: 4/5 I ordered their take on an Old Fashioned, and it was definitely the highlight of the night but sweeter than I would have liked. They served it over a stamped solid block of ice (a small detail I ). My friend was abstaining from alcohol that night and asked for a non-alcoholic cocktail. To our surprise, they didn't just hand her a lemonade like most places -- they actually made her a crafted virgin drink, which she loved. Food: 3/5 We ordered fries and a slice of pepperoni pizza. The fries turned out to be waffle fries (not mentioned on the menu) and were overly crispy, so not really our favorite. The pizza was fine -- clearly sourced from the shop downstairs -- but it leaned oily and didn't really wow us. Service: 5/5 Pretty standard -- nothing over the top, but not neglectful either. Drinks came out reasonably fast, food followed, and we were checked on enough without it feeling pushy. Vibes: 4/5 The speakeasy itself is definitely the selling point. Dark, intimate, and stylish -- you feel like you've found a little hidden spot. All in all, the cocktails are the reason to come, especially if you're into whiskey. The food was forgettable, but it's convenient that you can order pizza upstairs. We spent about $30-40 for drinks and snacks, which isn't shocking for Old Town. Would I go back? Maybe if I was already in the area, but for a dedicated whiskey night, I'd probably head somewhere else.
