I'm so glad we finally got around to trying this place! This is one of the best dining experiences we've had in OT! We will definitely be back. Our server, Noah, was awesome! He gave great recs. We had the gratin, buns, asparagus, and oysters. The asparagus were the only meh part of the meal. I don't recommend them because the texture was unpleasant. The buns and gratin were a MUST! The wine list is yummy and local. We sat outdoors and it was beautiful! The weather was nice so I recommend the patio!

Had a nice experience dining upstairs with friends. It's a bit on the pricier side but you can tell all the dishes are thoughtfully crafted and sourced from local ingredients (they pride themselves on their local partnerships with farmers). The prime rib and chicken were both very tasty. I've heard the downstairs offers a different menu so we'll certainly be back to try that one!

Came here for my parents 54th wedding anniversary. They seem to end up here every year to celebrate another year with each other. The food and service and meals were amazing. Ended up with the chefs tasting because obviously you can't choose from the amazing menu. So so good

    sooooo good! "scallops"

We had an absolutely incredible Valentine's Day dinner at Vermilion, and we're still talking about it. First, our server JOHNATHAN was spectacular. Truly above-and-beyond service from start to finish. He was knowledgeable about every detail on the menu, offered thoughtful guidance without being pushy, and made the entire experience feel personal and intentional. You can tell when someone genuinely enjoys what they do -- and that was exactly the energy he brought to our table. Now the food... wow. We're huge foodies and love trying new spots, and this easily ranks as one of our favorite dining experiences yet. The scallops were perfectly executed -- beautifully balanced and full of flavor. And the vegetarian "beef" tartare (made with carrots) completely surprised us in the best way. Creative, vibrant, and absolutely delicious. Between the exceptional service and the outstanding food, this was such a memorable evening. We're already looking forward to coming back -- for both the cuisine and to hopefully be seated in Johnathan's section again.

I stopped here during restaurant week for dinner and it was a good experience for a delicious meal. They use local ingredients with a mid Atlantic focus and I enjoy every bite. The fried oysters appetizer was a good choice to start off the meal, such tasty pops of flavor. The fried catfish was so crispy and perfectly cooked and the sauce was so good to dip in. The lemon olive oil cake to round out the meal was rich and not too sweet. The service was prompt and it wasn't very crowded on a Tuesday night. The vibe gives converted cigar lounge so if you want more of an old fashioned feel, would recommend checking it out for a drink or a nice dinner.

Cozy ambiance in the tavern area with candles and holiday music. Food was good overall and loved the farm to table aspect. There are 2 menus - tavern and table (course menu 75$ per person table must opt in) that you can order a la carte. Table ordered hush puppies (very lightly fried), Bettie's buns (3 salted solid bready buns), cauliflower soup (good good), steak (was mediocre), and the squash dish (amazing). Apple cake for dessert was great. Service was slow - it took over 15 minutes for a beer on tap and over an hour for food. It would have been nice to have been told what was on the plate (eg what are the 3 dressings with the hush puppies). It seemed the staff delivering the plates were very rushed as the table agreed a few dishes were slammed/ slid on the table.

We went to Vermillion for their summer restaurant week 2025 and added the wine pairing as well. The salads were good and light for an appetizer with a nice balance of flavors. The Strip Loin was good and cooked perfectly, but the dish as a whole lacked a standout quality in the steak, sauce, or potatoes that would make it worth the $20 up charge. For dessert I went with the Chocolate Cremeux, which was interesting enough, but the dish mixed together quickly and I wasn't able to enjoy it as much after the first few bites. Overall I would recommend Vermilion, especially as a date night spot, for its great service, quality food and interesting menu, and of course the charming ambience of its dimly lit dining room with spacious seating.

Rotating menu of delicious farm-to-table food inside a space with a historic feel to it. This being said, my experience coming here for dinner was ruined by the horribly long time it took for me and my GF to get our food (~1 hr 15 min) It was very surprising that the food took as long as it did because they literally only have 4 entrees on the menu and the place wasn't even full when we first got there. The waiter was aware of how long it was taking for us to get our food, and he was apologetic, but then it took a while to flag him down to get the check as well! Very disappointing since I liked the actual food a lot The place has outside seating and 2 levels of indoor seating (with the lower level having large bar area) as well. The outdoor seating apparently has an additional menu that is not available if you eat inside. They have a tasting menu, but the whole table is required to partake in order to do it

Lovely spot with great drinks and foods. Love the deviled eggs on the menu and the dips are always good. Service is excelente with attention to details and it's a nice cozy environment.

This is long over due since I went here a little bit ago. One of the better meals I had in a long time. A good amount of the food was spot on as well as our cocktails and wine choice. ( Annabella Cabernet). It would have given them 5 stars but the restaurant for me needed a bit of a cleaning. That's one thing I feel that it can be controlled; a little dusting, clean silverware before being placed down for service. It's the little things that make a big difference; especially in the beginning of service it wasn't very busy.

Vermilion has a small brunch menu but packs some nice flavors depending on your selection. The fluffy pancakes were delicious. I would highly recommend that dish. The avocado in our tomato and cucumber salad was overripe but still tasty. Coffee was ok but I could've used a stronger brew. Customer service was excellent, ambiance was cute and quiet- it's nice when you can hear each other talk. Overall, we enjoyed our meal!

    Ask the Community - Vermilion

Do you have a happy hour?

    Yes! Tuesday - Friday from 4pm - 6pm | And Saturday & Sunday from 3pm - 5pm.

Is a happy hour menu still available?

Absolutely! And it’s periodically changing…for the better.

Is Vermilion still taking indoor reservations / providing indoor dining?

    6 days a week!

    What is the dress code?

Casual but neat I wore a blue shirt and blazer. I would not wear t-shirt and shorts. There is a free trolley that runs up and down king street that will take you to all the cool places in old town. Enjoy!

At first, you'll see what looks like just a pizza shop -- but if you head in and either use the side door or walk through and climb a set of stairs, you'll find the speakeasy upstairs. Very cool vibe: dark, cozy, and date-night ready. Drinks: 4/5 I ordered their take on an Old Fashioned, and it was definitely the highlight of the night but sweeter than I would have liked. They served it over a stamped solid block of ice (a small detail I ). My friend was abstaining from alcohol that night and asked for a non-alcoholic cocktail. To our surprise, they didn't just hand her a lemonade like most places -- they actually made her a crafted virgin drink, which she loved. Food: 3/5 We ordered fries and a slice of pepperoni pizza. The fries turned out to be waffle fries (not mentioned on the menu) and were overly crispy, so not really our favorite. The pizza was fine -- clearly sourced from the shop downstairs -- but it leaned oily and didn't really wow us. Service: 5/5 Pretty standard -- nothing over the top, but not neglectful either. Drinks came out reasonably fast, food followed, and we were checked on enough without it feeling pushy. Vibes: 4/5 The speakeasy itself is definitely the selling point. Dark, intimate, and stylish -- you feel like you've found a little hidden spot. All in all, the cocktails are the reason to come, especially if you're into whiskey. The food was forgettable, but it's convenient that you can order pizza upstairs. We spent about $30-40 for drinks and snacks, which isn't shocking for Old Town. Would I go back? Maybe if I was already in the area, but for a dedicated whiskey night, I'd probably head somewhere else.

We walked in and were blessed to immediately get a table despite being told it may be an hour wait on the phone. We received a menu and ordered the breakfast burrito and the biscuits and gravy. Our food came extremely fast which surprised me and makes me wonder how much is prepped ahead. My friend received the burrito and it was very greasy so she requested to order something else. My biscuits and gravy were yummy. The eggs were cooked well and the fried chicken was the star of the show. Easily this was some of the best chicken I have had in a while. I overall enjoyed my meal but I wish there was way more gravy as there was only a little bit layered on top of the 2 biscuits. My friend was given a menu to order something else and this menu was different and had dinner options. It was 4:30 when we came and not more than 15 minutes of difference before receiving a menu the second time so we were surprised but eager to look. My friend ordered the half chicken which came with collard greens and grits. Since there was a different menu I wasn't aware of I wanted to order something additional and opted for saving the brunch meal I ordered for breakfast tomorrow. I loveeee scallops so when I seen them on the menu especially over grits I had to order it. The scallops were cooked wonderfully and I loved the composition of the dish with the creamy grits and the acid from the tomatoes and the smokiness of the sauce and grits. My friend loved the half chicken and after trying it myself we both agreed Matt and Tony's knows how to cook chicken well. The greens had nice flavor but were a little dry and needed some broth/juice from cooking. Again the grits were delicious and creamy with a bit of smoky flavor. I also had the Peso Cocktail which was sweet with a nice kick. Overall I enjoyed this restaurant and would come again and absolute what I ordered again as well. Coming here next time will be hard cause I'm definitely going to be battling between wanting what I already had and trying something new.
