Fabulous little neighborhood stop! Well rounded sandwich menu, from traditional to more unique, in addition to salads and soup. Wonderful wine and snack selection, too. Very friendly staff, makes everyone feel like a local. Quaint, cozy, and well stocked, you'll find just what you need only a few steps from home.

Love Slaters Market! Stopped by for lunch on a beautiful afternoon and had a great experience -- great people, food, and outdoor seating on a pleasant afternoon. Staff was terrific and were happy to offer tips on their interesting menu. I loved the Last Waltz sandwich -- like a Thanksgiving dinner in a sandwich. Only critique was the stuffing was of the 'Stove Top' boxed variety. Still great overall. Definitely support this local gem!

Tip: they sell wines by the glass so if you need a pit stop in the middle of your dog walk, this is a great option! I love the potato chip brands, they have my favorite champagne from France, and they have gluten free bread. Amazing little shop!

If you are in the mood for a sandwich then Slaters Market is the place for you. There are a variety of sandwich options available. They do offer breakfast sandwiches that are served until noon. The shop also has salads available. While you are waiting you can pick up a bottle of your favorite adult beverage or grab some snacks. I picked up the Last Waltz which is a turkey sandwich with gravy, stuffing, sour cherry jelly and mayo.

Surprisingly, it's so difficult to find shops that can make you a good bowl of soup in Arlington. Thanks to YELP, Slaters Market popped up, which was much different than what the name suggested. I walked in expecting a full blown market, but I found something better. A neighborhood one stop shop. The layout consisted of wine galore, a small market section, a sandwich making station and an ice cream cooler. I ordered their soup of the day, chicken pot pie soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. The chicken pot pie soup had all of the fixings mixed in broth, topped by a flaky biscuit. The grilled cheese. This was thee best grill cheese I've ever had; it had to be the three cheese blend (sharp cheddar, smoke Gouda, provolone) and the option for prosciutto on sourdough bread. I planned to eat half of the sandwich, but my plans changed after one bite. The customer service was friendly, the food tasted great and the pricing was fair. I can not wait to eat lunch there again.

The perfect local market deli spot for fresh sandwiches - the bread is fresh and locally baked. Fresh salads and delicious unique snacks. They also have a large selection of local craft beers and eclectic wines. They are very reasonably priced and even have a section dedicated for those on a budget. You can grab and go or relax inside or outside with seating available- and you can enjoy a glass of wine or beer! They are also known locally for their amazing catering - sandwich platters, brownie & cookies, and extravagant charcuterie boards. Great staff, great vibes.

The Last Waltz - Sandwich

WOW! One of the best sandwiches I've ever had! Don't sleep on Slater's market. I had "The Last Waltz" after reading other comments, and oh my my. It was heavenly. Sliced Turkey, Stuffing, Turkey Gravy, Sour Cherry Spread, & Hellmann's on Sourdough bread. The sandwich melted in my mouth, and the portion size was PERFECT. I foresee a lot more orders from Slaters's in my future.

This is my second time here and had the club sandwich. It was very good and fresh. The staff were very friendly and helpful. You will not be disappointed, promise.

Do not sleep on this neighborhood market! Not only is it loaded for your charcuterie and premo snacking needs, the sandwiches they churn out of this place are top notch. They got charcuterie, beer and wine, tasty crackers and chips, and baked goods. You can pop a squat outside on a nice day to enjoy your finds. Most importantly though, the sandwiches. Made to order and with freshly sliced deli meat, Slaters kicks sandwiches to the next level with their aiolis and cheeses. My favorite sandwiches are the chicken de lovely - smoked Gouda, chicken, sun dried tomato pesto, tomato, onion, arugula on a fluffy sourdough - and the last waltz - turkey, gravy, stuffing, jam, and Hellman's mayo also in fluffy sourdough. I would die happy if that was my last sandwich. It's like everything you want post thanksgiving but available year round. They have soup specials that come with a side of bread so keep your eyes peeled for the sign on the door. Alternatively if you know what you want you can order online for pick up and delivery. They're very speedy and I've found my orders ready within ten minutes of ordering. Lastly, all of their sandwiches (and pestos) are nut-free! Great for my fellow nut allergy friends who love pesto sans pine nuts. Whether you're treating yourself or hosting your friends, this place is a gem :).

I've been wanting to find a nice small sandwich shop that puts their heart and soul into their sandwiches. Slater's market is just that I got the Slater special which came with two sandwiches two chips, a dessert and a four pack of beer. The sandwich menu is not too large and not too small, but the Italian was amazing. The true calling card is how much care is put into assembling the sandwich.

Second best sandwiches I have ever had, but best on the East coast…read more I'm in Arlington on business from the West Coast and was looking for a quick lunch spot when I stumbled into this little hidden gem. I've eaten at plenty of delis over the years, but Eddie's Little Shop completely surprised me with flavors I've genuinely never tasted before. The sandwiches here are incredibly unique, creative combinations that just explode with flavor in ways I wasn't expecting. What really stood out were the huge, fresh chunks of real mozzarella, paired with their homemade-style dressings, sauces, and condiments. It's easily one of the best sandwiches I've ever had, and I've tried a lot. The portions are generous, the bread is spot-on. I'll definitely be back before my trip ends. If you're in Arlington, do not miss Eddie's Little Shop Deli. Highly, highly recommended!

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Hello, 911? I'd like to report an attempted murder…read more Eddie's tried to kill me with a monstrous sandwich. Saturday, midafternoon, I stop by for an Eddie Mootz ($17) (salami, ham, sopressata, mozzarella, on seeded italian). I'm handed this brown paper bag that weighs, I dunno, 3 lbs? I have to carry this back with me to the Metro. Twice along the way, I have to stop and catch my breath. I get home, my kitchen counter sags a bit where I put the bag down. Cripes, Eddie's. And the sandwich itself? 2 meals, easily. Thick thick piles of meat and a shovel-full of mozzarella. Very chewy bread. I work up a sweat just eating this, there's so much labor involved. I ordered online from the Metro, around the DCA stop, and got a notification it was ready before I got to the King Street stop. Fast turnaround. Eddie's is now on my list of places to make a point of going to for sandwiches in the DMV. Really good sandwich, and a lot of it.

Capo Deli

Capo Italian Deli - Old Town Alexandria…read more I reviewed our new Old Town neighbor - Capo Italian Deli - early in 2026. Time for an update. The deli is outstanding. Taking up a tiny footprint on the N. Washington Avenue thoroughfare, a few seconds from King Street, the deli delivers both hot and cold deli entrees, soft drinks, and salads. There's maybe half a dozen tables inside and a couple of tables outside, but from what I have seen thus far, most of the trade is with carry-out service, drawing from the excellent reputation Capo brought with it as it arrived in Old Town (the restaurant has siblings in Shaw NW, and Western Market in the District, Tyson's Corner in Vienna, VA, Annapolis and Potomac, MD). Fresh Philly rolls for those seeking a traditional hero sandwich, with go-to seasonings and all of the essential protein groups. My favorite is a large half roast beef half turkey with lettuce, tomato, and mayo (I skip the Italian dressing, which is part of the default, and I skip the cheese). I can and have made this $18 sandwich last three meals (so I ask them to cut the sandwich into three pieces), and the ingredients stay fresh for the next 24 hours. The last time I did this the sandwich fed me from 4:45 a.m. to 9 p.m., as I served as an election officer at one of Alexandria's polling places. Neat, trim, and completely satisfying. Just a point of concern: given its location, the opportunity to double-park while picking up an order seems to be just too tempting. This location, however, cannot over the long term sustain double-parkers. The deli is about 100 feet from the intersection of King Street and N. Washington Street. There is a dedicated lane for cars seeking to park adjacent to the deli. And then there are two northbound lanes on N. Washington Street. That's it - just two lanes serving one of the busiest intersections in Old Town. If a delivery-service car pulls up alongside one of the parked cars, all hell will break loose by drivers who suddenly find a delivery vehicle double-parking in front of Capo, leaving but one northbound lane open for however long it takes for the delivery agent to gather the order and beat it out of there. This happens with remarkable frequency, starting at about 11 a.m. and running throughout the day. That's not going to make good neighbors of Capo's nearby shops. Alexandria Parking has its work cut out for it, but here the rule prohibiting double-parking has to be enforced - it's both a safety issue and an issue of common courtesy. Doesn't matter if you think you'll just be in and out of the deli in seconds. We know it doesn't work that way, not always, and here - not even often. More often than not the double-parker will be creating a traffic hazard just by parking alongside a parked car in front of the deli. Please, don't do this.

This review is based solely on the customer service I received over the phone…read more I had placed a $62 order through DoorDash and chose Capo even though there are plenty of other deli spots nearby, because they normally make really good sandwiches. Unfortunately, the customer service this time was extremely disappointing. I called with a simple question about the bread since I have braces and needed something soft. The person who answered the phone was rude and dismissive, acting as if my call was an inconvenience. When I asked which bread was the softest, he cut me off to say they were "super busy" and could only change the bread on one sandwich, not both. I asked again for clarification, and he continued sounding irritated and uninterested in helping. He repeated that they had a line of people and needed to know which one sandwich I wanted to change. For the amount I paid, the lack of basic courtesy and willingness to answer a straightforward question was unacceptable. This will be my last time ordering from Capo in Alexandria, VA.
