Hops n Shine is a little whole in the wall especially for beer. It's located right next to a Popeyes but they have their own food. When you walk in there's some booth and bar seating, but in the back they have a full covered tent and tons of benches. This time I came, there was also cornhole set up. You'd be surprised at some of the things they carry, like the shredder from the Veil, which is an amazing IPA or a 120 minute Dogfish head which according to my friend they don't produce a ton of so it's pretty rare how many places actually hold them. Lots of interesting beer to try and it's a very casual spot. Makes me feel like more of a local. The food prices have definitely got higher since I last came. They usually had really good sandwiches. I ordered the sweet potatoe fries which was $7 for a small tray size. read more

Wings were mediocre their chili was decent. Probably great for alcohol, but I wasn't there to drink. I just want food. If their wings were better, I'd recommend it otherwise go for the alcohol. I'll be honest, I almost walked out, but I'm glad I stayed. My sister and I came for lunch and when we walked in, we weren't greeted, spoken to or provided with menus. We sat at the bar for about 5-10 mins hoping someone would assist us. Hungry, we didn't want to have to go somewhere else. Luckily, a kind gentleman named Milton (I believe) came from the back and asked if the weather outside was too cold. Confused by his question, we hesitated to answer, seeing our confusion, he said trust me and led us to the back of the restaurant and out the back door. He said we're more than welcome inside, but wanted to show us something. We had no idea there was a super cool back patio area! Lots of seating, yard games and great access to sunshine. From here on out, we had an amazing time! Milton is a super cool, laid back guy that provided excellent customer service. He told us about the menu, offered recommendations and checked on us regularly. I can see how he'd easily be held up providing undivided attention to other patrons, so I was no longer upset by the original wait time and he was also working alone! This is a great spot if you drink beer. It seems they rotate special beers often. (Based on friends choices) I do not drink. I have gotten food here often. It's reliable bar items but after a while I got bored with the choices. I've had the salad be really good and then other times questionable. Stick with grilled cheese variations or chicken fingers. The management seems ever changing. They have a hard time keeping servers it feels like. Once you get to know someone it changes. Even the bartenders. I feel bad for them. You used to order from QR codes, then back to in person. Sometimes there is only 1 server for the whole place and they're running around like crazy. So keep that in mind if you're in a rush. It's a neighborhood place with 2 tvs, has trivia, back patio. If you bring your pup you have to walk around, not through the building FYI. The parking lot can get hectic. The build-your-own sandwiches are SUPER customizable with different cheeses, meats and toppings, along with different breads (even have some keto options) and sides. They recently transitioned to new management, and I'm loving it! More events will be coming there soon! So many beers on draft and bottled to choose from plus a full bar. Great place for casual dining and late night food as well! Cozy inside with a nice big patio in the back that can also be covered and heated when it's cold. I love me some chicken tenders and these were on point - crispy but juicy inside and not dry. I was curious to try the banh mi sausage dog. Normally, Asian fusion food tends not to go well but it was actually pretty good. The spices and aioli sauce were very balanced. I asked the bartender to surprise me with a drink. I wanted to try something new. She did a great job with a ginger beer, tequila and grapefruit cocktail! They have comedy, trivia, barks and brews animal rescue nights, and music bingo and karaoke nights will be there soon! I'm excited! If anyone knows me, I run an extremely large karaoke group, and we are always looking for new places. The place is clean, intimate, not too bright, and such a friendly neighborhood bar. Came for the beer check-ins, but was a little disheartened by the location. We pulled up for a drink and weren't sure if we'd stay as it's suspiciously lodged in a rundown plaza, next to a large 7-11. The inside is narrow and long, but pleasantly cool, and the back has a large patio area with picnic benches and dog bowls. On the way in I noticed a sign with daily activities. There's something happening here every day of the week, and every week there is a theme. Tonight just happened to be "music bingo" and the theme was a popularly requested "kpop". You have no idea how surprised we were with the theme. We sat down like, kpop?! Here?! Sponsored by Greak Lakes brewery even! :D Ordering food was easy with a menu and a QR code menu that almost matched, but ordering drinks? A lot of scrolling. No physical menu. No divisions between beer and long drink and cider. Ugh. The music bingo ended up being ok as in not too loud. I like kpop in general so didnly mind listening to millennial kpop (classics!) So we then proceeded to order an appetizer platter where the fried pickles were surprisingly good. The chicken tenders were a great size (and taste), especially when ordered as a "my date is not hungry" add-on (with fries). Went here the other day with a friend. Neither of us had been before. They have a wide selection of beers on tap so points for that. The beer was warm though. Seemed like they were having an issue with their cooling system. The woman who served us was very friendly, personable and engaging. She deserves 5 stars. It seemed frantic though. The servers were running from the bar to the outside and then serving indoors as well. Just came across unmanaged. We sat out back since it was a warmer day. It smelled like gasoline or propane so we had to move a few times. I think the space could be improved to make it more inviting and comfortable. Many people had their dogs so that's a plus. The parking lot is small, shared with other businesses and is at a crappy and very busy intersection. Warm beer + gas smell + atmosphere = we won't be bad. They have a small space inside but have a nice dog friendly patio space in the back. The food and drinks were delicious, but felt bad for the staff as they seemed swamped due to a large reservation on the back patio. Went here for the first time with a couple of friends. They had been before and recommended it. I enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and friendly wait staff. It has a friendly neighborhood feel to it that I really appreciated. Great beer selection though I am not much of beer drinker these days. I always gravitated towards stouts and Belgian brews. They had some delectable sounding stouts that made me sad wheat is my nemesis now. Even so, there were some respectable though limited wine choices though I ended up with a lovely gin and cranberry seltzer type drink. If I had Uber-ed there I would definitely have had a moonshine cocktail. I'll save that for next time. Good food selection and definitely plenty of non wheat options. One of my friends swears by the three cheese grilled cheese and tots. It looked amazing especially if you eat wheat and dairy. Other friend got jalapeño poppers which looked good and I got sweet fries. They spent a bit too much time in the oven as they came out a little burnt on the edges, but they were still pretty good. My team and I went to Hops N Shine recently for a Happy Hour. We sat in the back of the venue. They have cornhole and a couple of other games outside. Their staff did a great job recommending beer and food to my group. I tried this Strawberry Cider. I lie to not it was the best Cider I've ever had. Aside from the beer options, they have a very diverse grilled cheese menu that paired well with the beer & ciders. My group staffed there for about 2.5 hours. What a delightful treat after a 3.5 hour dentist appointment that included at least one crown. I ordered a grilled cheese and tater tots and the avocado salad. The tots were awesome, the salad was a zesty refreshing side. The grilled cheese was solid but down a star because it could have used at least two more slices of cheese. I always enjoy stopping in for a quick beer or two and an appetizer. They make most everything from scratch on site which makes it more special. I'm not sure how many beers are on tap but they rotate with a bunch of local craft breweries and there's a large selection of liquors. The bar tenders and wait staff are friendly and attentive. Took a long walk with the husband and dog this weekend when our afternoon plans got canceled leaving a lot of free time. I'd previously heard of this place but we'd never been before and decided to stop by for some beers and a snack since we were in the area. I loved it! Looks so unassuming from the street but has everything I'd expect from a beer garden. We snacked on some tachos which were good. Not blow you away amazing but exactly what I was craving in terms of pub food. Honestly they get bonus points for even having an on-site kitchen given that so many local beer gardens and breweries lack that. Our second time coming here and today is the soft opening Roll Bar at Hops N Shine! Check out the menu for that! The mule is kick ass good as well as the Sake. Hood N Shine is an amazing place and I cannot speak enough about how excited I get when we came here. The grilled cheese is oh my goodness good! The entire menu is good! Couple it with the craft beers they have mine was a blonde. If you are visiting Arlington or just haven't made it here I highly recommend you go. Cute spot with a great outdoor area. Even with the heat, they have umbrellas and fans outside that made it doable. Lots of interesting menu choices, specifically with the grilled cheeses. My boyfriend doesn't eat meat so he liked have multiple options. He ordered The OG and I ordered the loaded tots with shaved ribeye. The shaved ribeye ended being just Steak'em which was a bit disappointing but other than that, the food was delicious and plentiful. 4.5 stars. Best and of of the few places to get flavored moonshine in the area. Been here several times and always have a good experience. Moonshines have great balance of flavor and alcohol content. When looking at the storefront of Hops N Shine, you would have no idea that there's a beer garden oasis tucked away behind the building. Located in the middle of a small strip mall off a busy road, the beer restaurant appears cramped and uncomfortable from the outside. But waltz through the narrow bar and you'll be treated to a spacious back patio complete with numerous picnic tables (some covered), a comfortable fire pit, and a few games like Jenga and cornhole. Beer aficionados will love this place, as the beer list is long and varied. You can order beers on draft from as far away as Maine (Lunch IPA) and as close as Ashburn. Hops N Shine also brews some of their own beers in-house but unfortunately were out of their IPA on my recent visit. The servers are knowledgeable about their beers on offer and can give recommendations based on taste and even value. While the food here is more pub grub style, you can't go wrong with any of their stellar grilled cheese sandwiches. I'd highly recommend the Holy Cheesus sandwich that comes complete with a crunchy outer crust of cheddar cheese. That combined with perfectly crispy tator tots is a delectable treat. read more

Nestled in between a laundry mat and a 7-11 you will find Hops N Shine. I came here after work to meet up with one of my friends and we were not disappointed. You walk in and your greeted immediately by a long bar and tables and bench to the right .. cant wait when its warmer out to check it out when they have their front garage door wall open or to check out the patio in the back. On tap you will find an array of beers some local some far away and some of your common brews that you find anywhere else, behind the bar is a wall full of hard alcohol and a small kitchen where your food is made. So a little bit about the food ... you can build your own grilled cheese or have one of the premade grilled cheese which I did and did not regret. They also have a bunch of burgers, hot dogs, some appz, and some amazing tots.... oh and their homemade chili that has Guinness and red wine in it and is amazing . So the grilled cheese that I ordered was the holy cheesus which contained all the cheese on the menu and than on the outside of the grilled cheese it was wrapped in another cheese and grilled until crispy. It was so delicious ohh and it comes with a side, either fries, tots, chili, or soup. ... of course I went for the chili, it was amazing with a nice little bite. In the entire northern Virginia area, I've yet to visit an establishment as welcoming as Hops n Shine. Their wings are incredibly brined and juicy, their extensive grilled cheese selection is second to none, their beer / alcohol selection guarantees something for everyone and the staff is very hardworking / friendly. It's actually unfortunate that this place is so amazing because I want to explore more of this area but I really have no need to now. Highly recommend! Ps: 6 TVs and sports are always going on! Hops N Shine is listed in Yelp as a sports bar. I'm thinking some thing similar to a Yard House. We get there and find that it's a very small place in a strip center. Hesitant to go in. We went in and found a small bar with televisions tuned into sporting events. I found on their menu that they had a lot of vegan choices. My wife and I stayed to watch USC lose miserably to Utah in the Pac 12 championships. However, while the Trojans were getting beat, we were enjoying very good vegan bar food. The service was impeccable. The bar seemed like a local gathering spot. I felt very much at home there. They had a huge variety of draft beers. Although not on the menu, I requested a flight to try the various beers and they happily obliged. I'm happy we made the choice to visit Hops N Shine. I'm even happier that we didn't turn around and go somewhere else. at the end of the night while USC lost the game, we won and found a new place to visit, when in the area. It's in the back and very quiet for the area. Lots of beer selections and AMAZING moonshine drinks. The shine-a-Rita and the herbalicous grilled cheese was freakin awesome! I'm not dining inside restaurant during the pandemic, but I certainly love doing take-out and really appreciated the curbside option. Their menu is extensive and they offer over a dozen different types of grilled cheese sandwich options alone! Their sandwich options are also super inventive. We ordered the following: -Mac N Doritos (Deep-fried Mac N Cheese patty, Doritos butter spread, muenster cheese, with a Doritos outer crust) -- Wowzers! This... was... amazing. Super unhealthy, undoubtedly, but still a generous and delicious serving of yummy goodness! I was already coming here on a regular basis because they have a great tap/can list but recently ate lunch here and will be back to try the rest of the menu! I had the burger melt (minus the veggies it comes with) - which was a really thick patty that still had a healthy amount of gooey cheese surrounding it to give it a grilled cheese vibe. My partner had the pepperoni and cheese one, he said it reminded him of pizza - especially when eating with the tomato soup. Soup was thick and flavorful. Terrible experiences lately. Tonight service was really bad. Blonde server could NOT stop flirting with her co-worker and the entire place could not get served because the staff wants to bone. Reason for the low score was service, food, and environment . Our server was definitely drunk, he was spilling beer everywhere and it was dripping when he handed it to me. I watched as he continued to spill every beer he served and was confused at what table ordered what. He was even "nice" enough to shake his hand off right next to me splattering me with beer. I mentioned it to the manager aka bartender but didn't seem to care. Food was ok. Jalapeño poppers weren't spicy at all. My wife and I sat outside and they never bothered to come back and give us water. There was live music with a guitarist which would have been nice except parents with kids come to have adult time while their kids run around on the outdoor patio. Not the environment I want to drink in. Outdoor patio is also less than inviting. Will not be returning. read more
