There is a large Harris Teeter sign on the side of the building, but no obvious entrance to be found. I walked from one end of the building to the other without much luck. I finally asked a cleaning lady to find out where the store entrance was. She said I needed to walk down a precarious tamp to the parking garage, and then search out an elevator to ride up to the store. There were absolutely no signs anywhere inside of this parking garage, however I did finally manage to find the store. A ended-up little frustrated. I purchased some basic stuff like bread, water, some apples, and soup. The store itself was fine, I just with they would give a little more guidance especially if you are forcing people to take an elevator to enter the store.

Many of the self-checkout machines were not working. There's not enough space at self-checkout to put all of your items if you have a full cart. Additionally, was some paying ME a wage to ring up groceries? No. To add insult to injury, the sole employee in the self-checkout area berated me for taking too long! The nerve! She said machines were broken and there was a line. She said I could take more time under other circumstances. Maybe you should have actual cashiers working! Your lack of planning, lack of staffing, broken machines, and lack of space is not my fault. SO RUDE. I shouldn't have spent over $100 at this store. I was livid. I posted on social media and someone said a manager would call me. That did not happen, unless he mixed me up w/someone else named Kim.

The shop is super clean and has a modern, welcoming energy that works whether you're grabbing a quick treat or sitting down for a full meal. I love the spacious vibrant design of this place, plenty of seating and standing area. I came for the donuts but stayed for the quality. I tried the Black Forest Vegan Donut, and it was soooooooooo delicious. Sometimes vegan pastries can be hit-or-miss with texture, but this one was spot on... rich, flavorful, and definitely a must-try. I wish they have a few more options for vegan donuts though. I had try Kings Hot Cocoa with Oatmilk, so happy they have non-dairy milk substitutions available. I love that they use housemade cocoa here. It's a more sophisticated version of hot chocolate, definitely more bitter than sweet, next time I will ask for chocolate sauce to be added to off balance the bitterness. It's rich and authentic, not that powdery artificial stuff you find at chains. I was surprised by their huge variety. Beyond the wall of donuts, they have a full breakfast menu, plus happy hour and drink specials. It seems like a great place to transition from a morning coffee to a late afternoon cocktail. They also have a rewards program, which is a no-brainer to sign up for if you live in the area with just your phone number. The staff was very nice and patient while I was deciding (it's hard to choose when everything looks so good!). The whole place is very well-kept and feels like a spot where they actually care about the details. The only slight hurdle is the parking situation. It's paid street parking, and it can be a bit of a challenge to find an open spot nearby. Just give yourself a few extra minutes to circle the block or be prepared to walk a short distance it's def worth it!

The cappuccinos were fairly priced and even cheaper than Starbucks! The staff weee super friendly. They even had the whole place decorated for the holidays. There's a second floor too where you can sit. We grabbed a couple cappuccinos and hit the street again with more pep in our step. I highly recommend this place, especially if you want a speciality donut! We didn't but maybe next time.

Against that yardstick, Portofino was really rather decent offering excellent service and fare that while not "Nonna caliber" was surprisingly good. While I wasn't thrilled about being hit with a pasta upcharge on a veal dish which in the Italian canon must come with pasta, larceny was otherwise kept to a minimum. For a decent meal in a pinch, Portofino works.

The menu discusses the chef's career in Italy before he came to the U.S. Many of the dishes were supposed to be from northern Italy. I'm not a fan of creamy sauces or bechamel. I guess my ancestors were tomato and garlic eaters from the south. We started with smoked salmon which had been bathed in Aperol. Tasty. Then a lovely salad with pears, arugula and blue cheese. The segundo was pasta dish that was ok. Wasn't hot enough when it arrived and the lemon garlic sauce with clams, shrimp and scallops was, in the words of my wife, pretty boring. The service was great and they had a pretty good crowd for a Wednesday night. The Christmas music did not add my enjoyment of the meal.
