Don't bother trying to order for delivery. Sept 2024. Not a busy time of day, 330pm on a Thursday. The Dixie Liquor website processed my order, but it never arrived. Called store, and person on the other end sounded as if he didn't have much training. Told me he was going to have to call and ask the owner about my order, and get back to me.....but he never called. I had to call again, and all he had to say was "I can't find the order". So, I placed a second, slightly different order. Got a confirmation email, saying "one hour delivery". An hour and a half later, and still not here. Called a third time, and guy said, "Oh yeah, you'll get your order some time today". I mentioned that the sited says "One hour". The clerk now sounds annoyed and said, "Yeah, it will go out once the guy who delivers gets here, 15, 20 minutes". So, I got charged for two orders, and never got either one of them. Update: Six minutes from Six PM, they call me and the young sounding guy says, "We don't have ANY of what you ordered" even though it is listed on the website. He's on his way personally now to delivery something else, but I expect that once I look at my bank statement, I'm going be pretty angry and see errors there. This was my first order from this store, and If I had know how much trouble it would be, I never would have used them to order. Update: guy dropped off and gave me a "free" bottle....but it was such horrible flavor I expect they were getting rid of it anyway because no one buys it. read more

We then called a couple of hours later and said were open until 6 went back again and waited 45MIN while the sign said they should have been back 20 min since the sign. TERRIBLE business. Went here by mistake because I was looking for a spot to buy some twisted tea. The building was on a super steep hill, PUT ON YOUR EMERGENCY BREAK. Thankfully there was free parking on this awkward hill. The front counter guy was so nice! I really like his customer service skills. I asked about hoop tea and he was doing research to find but didn't have it. The place is very small but very convenient where it's located off of the main road. I'd highly recommend going going to this place for a better than usual liquor store experience. read more

This tiny liquor store certainly doesn't have the most extensive selection, but they more than make up for it with their convenient location. It's very obvious that they cater to the largely georgetown student crowd. The prices are reflective of the area, easily 10-20% higher than surrounding stores. Their wine selection is minimal, and they're usually out of the Malbec that I prefer. The service is pretty hit or miss. I've gone in on slow nights and received personalized service where they even suggested wine pairings (apparently selling alcohol makes you an expert) and on other nights I've had the opposite extreme where I basically had to go behind the counter to get service. read more

Word to the Wise: When buying beer for minors at Dixie Liquor, be sure to make the hand-off ALL THE WAY UP THE STREET on 35th street. It's not enough to just go behind the bushes that hide the sidewalk from the store window. The cops may be hiding in wait. That said, providing liquor to minors is a irresponsible and disgusting behavior, and the owners of Dixie condemn any sort of harmful binge-drinking, even though they have fueled many alcohol-induced rages and (maybe) comas throughout the years, all in the shadow of Georgetown University. Dixie is famous for their selection of kegs. They always have kegs on special -- old kegs of Yuengling that won't get off the shelves, or some apricot or holiday nut-ale...all I can say is, be careful, because there is usually a reason they are on special. Just check the expiration date. The best part about Dixie is the friendly staff, who will gladly stay open a few minutes after ten, and who will help you roll your keg to the parking lot and heave it into your trunk. read more

Being right at the end of the Key Bridge, this is the closest place to Arlington where I can get Great Lakes beer. The prices are OK - there's a slight Georgetown premium. And the store is very small, though they manage to cram a decent inventory into such a small space. read more

The GF and I spent our Saturday afternoon walking around G-town and the West End after our lunch. One of our objectives for the afternoon was to scope out the various liquor stores for price and selection. Dixie Liquors was a small store with a decent selection. Their Scotch, bourbon, vodka and beer selections were best things about Dixie Liquors in my mind. Prices were ok. If I were a Georgetown student, maybe this would be my first choice. Based one the others that we checked out in G-town and the West End, I think there are better ones to be found. read more

Dixie liquors stole my money I unfortunately do not have the same fondness and pleasant regard as most of Dixie liquor's underage college binge drinking customers. I would never buy a thing from this establishment, if that's what you want to call it, again. I made the mistake of purchasing a keg from this highly inconvenient spot for a summer BBQ my roommates and I were hosting. The prices were pretty decent so we decided to haul ourselves across the city and make the purchase. Everything went smoothly after we finally were able to squeeze our car into their tiny "parking lot" . We purchased and signed all documents describing their return policies and went on our merry way. After the festivities I trekked back to their store to return keg and tap and in plenty of time before the cut off date. But unfortunately the Dixie liquor staff has not been well informed of their duties. A few weeks later I saw they had charged me the extra $80 late charge. When i called to talk to the "manager" I was rudely informed that they did not in fact have any record of the returned goods. I had at the point thrown away my receipt thinking the employees would know how to document the return and take an inventory of their goods. No such luck. Apparently thats how this small business owner makes an extra buck. NEVER going back or recommending. read more

Short version: -Their website lists inaccurate keg prices -They came up with a bunch of bad reasons not to reimburse my buddy the difference Novel version: A week or so ago, I called up Dixie to place an order for a couple of kegs. While on the phone, I asked if their online prices were up-to-date. They explained to me that their website was out of date, and that the kegs might cost $5-7 more each. No big deal, I thought, that still makes them cheaper than Metro Wine & Spirits, their much more convenient (for me) competitor. I had my buddy go grab the kegs, and when discussing reimbursement realized that he'd been charged significantly more than I'd expected. I checked their website again, just to make sure that I wasn't crazy, and found that they'd charged us $15 more than listed on one keg, and $2 more than listed on each ice bucket. (The price of the second keg was listed as $20 more than I'd remembered; they probably updated their website on that one, or I just misread the price initially. No big deal either way.) I felt bad about this, since my buddy hadn't known how much we thought we were paying, and ended up being out a couple extra bucks as a result. I figured I'd call them up, explain the price miscommunication, and ask if they could refund the ~$20 on the first keg and buckets, particularly since we'd gone to Dixie only because of what I thought was a lower price. I thought this request seemed pretty straightforward and reasonable, and expected a 2 minute call where I explained the situation, gave the guy my buddy's credit card #, and had the price knocked down to what it was listed online (or $5-7 more). When I explained this to the guy on the phone, the first question he asked was who I'd spoken with the week prior. i didn't know, and explained that probably 95% of people who call up a business have no idea who they're talking to. To me, this didn't matter at all--the miscommunication happened regardless--but he kept on saying that he couldn't help us out unless I told him who I'd spoken with. We proceeded in circles on this point for a couple minutes, with me getting progressively more irritated. I explained that it's bad business practice to fail to upkeep the prices listed on your website. He seemed to think that I was accusing them of maliciously misleading consumers. I explained that I was actually accusing them of negligently misleading consumers. Again, as a misled consumer, it didn't matter much to me whether it was malicious or not. I realized I was getting nowhere, spent the next 10 minutes telling my friends about this injustice, then got on with my life. Until coming back to write this novel, that is. I'd recommend that you not go here, but if you must, make sure you go out of your way to confirm the actual vs. internet price. read more

I've read Yelp for a long time but this is the first experience that has made me feel compelled to write a review. Dixie ripped my friends and I off. We needed some kegs for a party and live in DC but not near Dixie. We researched the store with the cheapest/best variety of kegs and settled upon Dixie. We thought we were getting one keg for 95 bucks and the other for 140, as well as two ice tubs for 3 bucks each. A different person than the one who ordered the kegs went to pick them up and when he got back with the kegs we realized he had been overcharged. To make sure we weren't crazy we checked the website prices. The keg we thought was 140 was listed at 160 (the amount we were actually charged) so we decided to concede any argument about that one. However the keg we were charged 110 for was listed at 95 (and still is as I write this review). We were also charged 5 dollars for each ice tub instead of 3. We called to try and get our 20 bucks back and the person who picked up rudely stonewalled us. He kept asking for the name of the person we ordered the kegs from, and when obviously did not know such a thing he just repeated that he will not help us. I understand that mistakes happen and updating a website is probably not a liquor store's top priority but given the rudeness we experienced when pointing out the issue I would never recommend this store. Get your kegs somewhere else or risk getting ripped off. read more

This is my first yelp review. In other words, I have never had an experience positive or negative enough to warrant sharing online until now. My roommates and I got two kegs from Dixie for a party. Now, we received different beer than we had requested for $10 more than the promised price, without warning, but whatever: while this poor service was annoying, it wasn't a big deal. Not first-ever-yelp-review-worthy. However, what happened when we attempted to return these kegs was appalling. It simply wasn't possible to do so, as Dixie wasn't open during their posted hours, nor did they answer repeated phone calls or even have a voicemail message explaining the situation to customers. These attempts to contact the store in person and over the phone happened on at least three different days over the course of a week. I know Dixie has many positive reviews here, and a reputation for outstanding service. While this may have been true in the past, my experience demonstrates that this reputation is simply no longer deserved. To the contrary, Dixie is the worst business in the District of Columbia. read more

I had the same experience as the reviewer a couple posts back-- ordered a keg, used it, returned it, and was CHARGED FOR IT ANYWAY!! Infuriating. Kegs aren't cheap, either. I absolutely, positively, DO NOT recommend this liquor store, but if you have no other alternative, keep ALL of your paperwork because they WILL try to scam you. After contacting the bank to refute the extra keg charge, Dixie Liquors followed up with them and said I'd signed a form stating I would not argue any charges with my bank-- RED FLAG!!! If you have to sign away all of your rights to rent a beer keg, it's probably best for you to take your business elsewhere. Please don't support this shady, shady establishment! read more

So Dixie is as good as a liquor store can get. Wide selection, decent prices, and a staff that is like something out of a TV show (I'm thinking Blacks Books). They occasionally have tastings and are always willing to help you pick your poison. Its a Georgetown mainstay. The only thing that scares me is how close the buses coming off the bridge get to the building. Almost makes you need a drink. read more

I grew up in the area and I just stopped in for the first time this week during a break in the rain. I'm not sure where the negative comments are coming from in terms of selection but personally I was impressed by the diversity in the whiskey and gin selections in particular in such a small store--I did not look closely at their beer and wine but there seemed to be plenty of options. I was expecting far less being between Georgetown and GW. Moreover, the guy working was helpful and knowledgeable about several of bottles I was asking about but also didn't try to BS about things he didn't; he also offered to order things if they didn't carry something I was looking for. It's nice having something so close to VA where diversity isn't exactly the name of the game at the ABC stores. I will note, not too surprisingly, that many of their prices were above average--in some cases just by a few dollars and in others by a lot more. read more

When the cashiers finally noticed me they said, "Hey, move, we have paying customers." and the other cashier said, "Eh, no such thing." Okay. Then the workers started talking about having sex in their car. Jesus, I just wanted some beer! Should have just gone to Wisey's. Dixie Liquor is a wonderful, Georgetown Landmark. They have an unprecedented selection of Kegs (if you plan in advanced, they can get you anything). Some claim that Dixie does not have Kegs when they do, yet, those individuals are often calling Day of, or Day Before for Kegs. Additionally, the staff of Dixie are wonderful and very helpful. If you take the time to speak to them as human beings, and not just as people in a service industry (which far too many people do), they will not only give you wonderful recommendations for alcohol, but often invite customers to try diverse types of alcohol, and even give them free samples or bottles. read more

Dixie will forever hold a special place in my heart, and that's not only because this was my go-to liquor store for two years in college. Dixie has character. The kegs and light beer are very fairly priced. Microbrews are a bit more expensive, and you'll definitely get a better deal at Safeway, but Dixie has a solid selection to choose from. It is tiny and sometimes feels cramped, but the people who work there really set it apart. When most places might give you a free mixer or cheap bottle on your birthday, a nice guy from Dixie poured me a shot and we shared one right in the store. When they ran out of solo cups (VERY important for college students), one worker went out, drove across the bridge to Arlington in a torrential downpour to get cups, and called my phone when he returned, ten minutes past closing, to give me the supplies I needed for my party. I've never left Dixie without an honest, genuine "have a great night". I think a lot of liquor stores have a love/hate relationship with their collegiate clientele. I know that Dixie really appreciates its customers, and will always be there for them. read more

I got two kegs from them... The cashier was not particularly helpful. No one helped me lift the kegs into the car. Got all the way back across DC and set up our BBQ. 6 pm we try and tap the kegs. One worked. The other didn't. At this point it was too late to drive across the city and get a different tap. Dixie was not answering their phones. We did the best we could to get beer out of the Stella keg. We maybe managed to get half out. The next day when I went to return the two kegs, I said to the man working there that I thought we deserved some sort of discount/compensation for the fact that there was $70 worth of beer still left in the keg. He very reluctantly refunded $40, but then yelled at me for not coming in to ask for a new tap. He even claimed they would have paid to send the tap to me (something i don't believe). He was mad about Dixie's image saying (all the people who had trouble getting beer out of that keg wont want to come here anymore because they think we screwed up your keg). Well, that's true Dixie. We all this your service is crap now. And you've lost quite a few customers. Hint: work on your customer service. read more
