Not only do they carry beer, wine AND liquor, the selection is surprisingly massive and the prices are about right for what you could consider a bottle shop. This is by far my favorite place to pick up a six pack in the area. When I moved here form Portland, OR I was a little worried about the ability to find good craft beer in DC but my fears were put to rest when I found this place. Not only do they have a wonderful selection of craft beers (and almost nothing from the big bad beer guys) but the lady who runs the place will go out of her way to get anything you ask for. I absolutely love that I can go in there, ask for my favorite beers, and she'll have them in a week or two. What kind of store does that? I Love this place. Go try some fancy beer if you haven't already. I'd recommend the 22's of Green Flash Imperial IPA if you're really looking for a good time. Or a six pack of Hop Ottin' IPA will do.. It's pretty wacky that I could feel such strong feelings for a liquor store. It totally blind sided me, to be honest. After a trek through DC one early evening, I was looking to get my booze on. Living in Virginia, I'm not used to liquor stores looking nice and inviting. I have to deal with awful state-run stores and awful taxes. Walking around AdMo, I just so happened to stop into Virginia Market. I couldn't believe how clean and bright and inviting it was. It was not the first DC liquor store I went to, so I know that's not how all of them are. I couldn't believe that the liquor wasn't behind some counter and that everything was clearly labeled! What was this place?! There was great selection also... Not just of the alcohol, but also of the snack foods. (I liked that there was a freezer chest full of ice cream in the front.) They had a pretty good stock of Asian alcohol, too. However, I was specifically craving shochu, which they didn't carry. They did have soju though, so it was still ok! The owners both seemed really sweet. I didn't interact with them much, but I definitely got a vibe that they were good people. It's crazy how attached to this store I became during my brief visit! I don't live in the area, so I don't know when I'll be back, but I know if I were a DC local, I'd make a special trip just to hit up this store. read more

It has minimal provisions, so if you need shampoo or hot dog buns, don't let the "Virginia Market" name fool you, you'll be better off at Rite Aid. When I lived at the corner or 17th and U St., this used to be my go to spot. Now that I've moved, I still make it a point to stop in when I'm in the area. I was invited to dinner, and asked to do one thing: find a beer to pair with lamb chops. Google did the rest of course, and I was on the hunt for a good Porter. Turns out Virginia Market carry a large, LARGE selection of beers, many from smaller breweries. They had an excellent selection of Bell's, and I ended up purchasing their Porter. The owners were incredibly helpful when I was searching through the beer selection, and even offered to get me cold beer when I picked up the six pack off the shelf. Came here on Sunday and there was absolutely no customer service! The woman at the register just stared at me and my friends. It was a weird and awkward experience. I truly felt racially profiled. Incredible store. Sunny and Jun are incredibly friendly. They continually seek advice from all customers about what to stock in the store. We briefly mentioned a type of wine we enjoyed to them and next week they were carrying it, and at a lower cost than the store across the street. Later, we casually mentioned that it was best when chilled, and the the next week, all the bottles were in the fridge. I cant say enough good things about this place. I feel compelled to give this 5 stars because some of the older reviews are no longer accurate. The store has been redesigned. The front has been refurbished, too. It looks very nice, new, and clean. The Korean woman who works there is extremely friendly and helpful. I really like her a lot. They have a great selection for a convenience store. Beer, wine, liquor, drinks, ice cream, food, house supplies, canned food, etc. It's not a supermarket so it's not going to have supermarket bargain prices, but the prices are reasonable for a corner store. This is my preferred local liquor store. The selection is very broad considering the size. The prices are reasonable for the area. The couple that runs the place is very nice and they seem to be very invested in having a successful local store. After a couple of trips here the woman behind the counter will recognize you as a regular; I've gotten a few breaks here and there from her on items that I purchased, including a small bottle for free once, so they are good about building customer loyalty and recognizing that there are five other stores you can shop at within a block. read more

Now that DeVino's is closed, this is the best bottle shop in the Adam's Morgan/U Street area. Virginia Market is an unassuming liquor store/convenience store that is run by craft beer wizards who know their beer. Follow them on twitter! That's really the best way to know what's in stock. Lot's of Bells, Founders, Stone, Unibroue, Goose Island, Dieu de Ciel, Lost Abbey, Port Brewing more usual suspects. Really good selection where you are bound to find something of interest. Stock changes pretty frequently. If they don't have what you are looking for, ask the owners and they will let you know if they can order it. Only downside is that the beer can be a bit pricey for specialty items like Port Old Viscosity but otherwise pretty good for local sixers. A little bit cramped, but 90% of the store seems to be beer with about 50% refrigerated. read more

It seems like the older reviews might be quite out of date. This is my magic store, that seems to always have everything I need, particularly at 9-10 pm at night when I'm scrambling. Beyond that, they have a top-notch beer and wine selection. And no, not the old standbys- this is stuff even the biggest beer and wine snobs would approve of (even stocked Bells Hopslam recently!). I'd add an extra star if they improved the outward appearance of the store a bit more (they finally painted in the fall) and took down the grates which are no longer necessary in this area. read more

This is pretty much as close as it gets to a bodega in this part of DC (or any parts really). My boyfriend lives half a block from Virginia Market and probably goes here every day, which means I go here at least 3 times a week too. The owners of VIrginia Market are awesome. They are ALWAYS there from the time the store opens to the time it closes. If you ask them to start carrying something THEY WILL. I live in Petworth and no stores like this carry soymilk or frozen vegan burritos but Virginia Market sure does! They have a good beer and wine selection which continues to grow as they have applied for their liquor license and are gearing up for it being granted. Their selection may be random, but this isn't Giant or Harris Teeter- if you want that walk your arse further and stop complaining. Sadly (well, not *too* sadly) they are trying to turn into a liquor store which will definitely make it harder to go and buy toilet paper at 9 pm when you realize you've run out or need a couple limes or a bowl of ramen. read more

Without a doubt THE destination for quick booze in the AdMo, U Street (worth the short hike over) area. A formidable craft beer section (most of it refrigerated) and a solid liqour selection. Wine selection is sub-par, but let's face it, you probably came here to stock up for a weekend night anyways. The owners are simply adorable, always nice, and making an honest living - they make it easy to keep coming back. Highly recommend for anyone looking for good beer selection at good prices (cheaper than DaVinos) or a good price on liquor (take your time to scan the prices and you can get some relative steals). read more
